RESUMEN

ABSTRACTMetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with photocatalytic activity have garnered significant attentions in environmental remediation. Herein, copper-doped zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 (Cu-doped ZIF-7) was synthesized rapidly and easily using a microwave-assisted technique. Various analytical and spectroscopic methods were employed to access the framework, morphology, light absorption, photo-electrochemical and photocatalytic performance of the synthesized materials. Compared to ZIF-7, Cu/ZIF-7 (molar ratio of Cu2+ to Zn2+ is 1:1) demonstrates superior visible light absorption ability, narrower band gap, enhanced charge separation capability, and reduced electron-hole recombination performance. Under visible light irradiation, Cu/ZIF-7 serves as a Fenton-like catalyst and demonstrates exceptional activity for contaminant degradation, while virgin ZIF-7 remains inactive. With the addition of 9.8 mmol H2O2 and exposure to visible light for 30 min, 10 mg of Cu/ZIF-7 can completely decompose RhB solution (10 mg/L, 50 mL). The synergistic effect of the Cu/ZIF-7/H2O2/visible light system is attributed to visible light photocatalysis and Fenton-like reactions. Cu/ZIF-7 demonstrates excellent catalytic performance stability, with only a slight decrease in degradation efficiency from an initial 97.0% to 95.4% over four cycles. Additionally, spin-trapping ESR measurements and active species trapping experiments revealed that h+ and ·OH occupied a significant position for Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation. Degradation intermediate products of Rhodamine B have been identified using UPLC-MS, and the degradation pathways have been proposed and discussed. This work offers a facile and efficient technique for developing MOF-based visible light photocatalysts for water purification.

RESUMEN

To effectively kill microorganisms on scrap facemasks (FMs) surface and provide new material for extracting uranium (U(VI)) from seawater, scrap FMs was treated by N2 capacitance coupled (CCP) plasma and modified with polyamidoxime (PAO). The obtained PAO/FMs was well characterized and applied as an adsorbent in the extraction of U(VI) from seawater. The effects of environmental conditions on the adsorption capability of PAO/FMs for U(VI) were briefly studied. Results showed that plasma technique can synchronously kill microorganisms and induce acrylonitrile (AN) polymerization on FMs surface. The prepared PAO/FMs presented excellent adsorption capability for U(VI). The experimental results highlighted the application of plasma technique in the management of scrap FMs, and PAO/FMs in the extraction of U(VI) from seawater.

RESUMEN

To enhance the anti-biofouling properties and adsorption capability of poly(amidoxime) (PAO), vinylphosphonic acid (VPA, CH2[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-PO3H2) was polymerized on poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) surface by plasma technique, followed by amidoximation treatment to convert the cyano group (-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N) into an amidoxime group (AO, -C(NH2)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-OH). The obtained poly(vinylphosphonic acid)/PAO (PVPA/PAO) was used as an adsorbent in the uptake of U(vi) from seawater. The effect of environmental conditions on the anti-biofouling property and adsorption capability of PVPA/PAO for U(vi) were studied. Results show that the modified PVPA enhances the anti-biofouling properties and adsorption capability of PAO for U(vi). The adsorption process is well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and reached equilibrium in 24 h. Adsorption isotherms of U(vi) on PVPA/PAO can be well fitted by the Langmuir model, and the maximum adsorption capability was calculated to be 145 mg g-1 at pH 8.2 and 298 K. Experimental results highlight the application of PVPA/PAO in the extraction of U(vi) from seawater.

RESUMEN

Background: Irisin, a new exercise-related myokine, has been shown to be associated with a variety of diseases including serious neurological disorders. However, whether irisin is involved in the pathogenesis of vascular dementia (VD) has not yet been reported. Our aim is to determine the serum irisin level in patients with VD and investigate its relationship with cognitive function. Methods: The subjects of the study were VD patients and controls with normal cognitive function who were hospitalized in the Neck-Shoulder and Lumbocrural Pain Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from July 2018 to June 2020. Upon admission, a cognitive function assessment was performed. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the concentration of irisin in serum. Results: During the study period, 187 subjects (82 controls and 105 VD patients) were included in the analysis. The serum irisin level of VD patients was significantly lower than that of the control group (p < 0.001). Spearman analysis showed that irisin was positively correlated with HLD-C and MoCA, and negatively correlated with all clinical characteristics except for HCY. Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for all clinical characteristics, the serum irisin of VD patients still had a significant correlation with MoCA (ß = 0.304, p = 0.029). According to receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the diagnostic accuracy for serum irisin levels on VD was 76% with the sensitivity and 71% with specificity respectively. Conclusions: These data indicate that a decrease in serum irisin levels is a powerful biological marker for cognitive decline in patients with VD, even after adjustment for risk factors. Further multi-center studies need to confirm this connection, which may pave the way for new treatment options.

RESUMEN

During the amidoximation process, transformation details of poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) to poly(amidoxime) (PAO) is critical for optimizing amidoximation conditions, which determine the physicochemical properties and adsorption capabilities of PAO-based materials. Although the optimization of amidoximation conditions can be reported in the literature, a detailed research on the transformation is still missing. Herein, the effect of the amidoximation conditions (i.e. temperature, time, and NH2OH concentration) on the physicochemical properties and adsorption capabilities of PAO was studied in detail. The results showed that the extent of amidoximation reaction increased with increasing temperature, time, and NH2OH concentration. However, a considerably high temperature (>60 °C) and a considerably long time (>3 h) could result in the degradation and decomposition of PAO's surface topologies and functional groups, and then decrease its adsorption capability for U(vi). The optimal amidoximation condition was 3 h, 60 °C and 50 g L-1 NH2OH. At this condition, the PAO obtained presented the highest adsorption capability for U(vi) under experimental conditions. These results provide pivotal information on the transformation of PAO-based materials during the amidoximation process.

RESUMEN

In order to explore the effect of -OH functional groups in Cs+ adsorption, we herein used the low temperature plasma-induced grafting method to graft chitosan onto carbon nanotubes (denoted as CTS-g-CNTs), as raw-CNTs have few functional groups and chitosan has a large number of -OH functional groups. The synthesized CTS-g-CNT composites were characterized using different techniques. The effect of -OH functional groups in the Cs+ adsorption process was evaluated by comparison of the adsorption properties of raw-CNTs with and without grafting chitosan. The variation of environmental conditions such as pH and contact time was investigated. A comparison of contaminated seawater and simulated groundwater was also evaluated. The results indicated that: (1) the adsorption of Cs+ ions was strongly dependent on pH and the competitive cations; (2) for CNT-based material, the -OH functional groups have a positive effect on Cs+ removal; (3) simulated contaminated groundwater can be used to model contaminated seawater to evaluate the adsorption property of CNTs-based material. These results showed direct observational evidence on the effect of -OH functional groups for Cs+ adsorption. Our findings are important in providing future directions to design and to choose effective material to remedy the removal of radioactive cesium from contaminated groundwater and seawater, crucial for public health and the human social environment.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Ningdong Granule (NG) on serum levels of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) of children patients with Tourette's syndrome (TS). METHODS: Totally 90 TS children patients were randomly assigned to the NG group, the NG + Tiapride group (abbreviated as the combined treatment group), and the Tiapride group, 30 in each group. Besides, another 30 healthy children were recruited as the healthy control group. Patients in the NG group were treated with NG (consisting of all gastrodia rhizome, Codonopsis pilosula, Ophiopogon japonicus, white peony root, Rhinocerotidae, oyster, earthworm, licorice root, etc.), one dose daily, administered by dissolving it in boiled water, taken in two portions in the morning and in the evening respectively. Patients in the Tiapride group took Tiapride Tablet, 50 -100 mg each time, twice daily. The dosage was adjusted according to individual difference and changes of pathogenic conditions. The maximal dosage was 300 mg per day. Those in the combined treatment group were treated with equal dose of NG and Tiapride Tablet in combination. The treatment course was 3 months for all. Changes of pathogenic condition before and after treatment were assessed by Yale global tic severity scale (YGTSS). Serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha were detected by enzyme-labeled immunosorbent assay (ELISA) before and after treatment. RESULTS: (1) The total effective rate of the NG group, the combined treatment group, and the Tiapride group was 79.3%, 83.3%, and 67.9%, respectively. It was the lowest in the Tiapride group (P < 0.05). It was significantly higher in the combined treatment group than in the NG group (P < 0.05). (2) The post-treatment YGTSS score was obviously lower in each group after treatment than before treatment (P < 0.05). The posttreatment YGTSS score was obviously lower in the NG group and the combined treatment group than in the Tiapride group (P < 0.05), but with no statistical difference between the fromer two groups (P > 0.05).(3) Compared with the healthy control group before treatment, serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha (pg/mL) were 124.95 +/- 22.78 and 209.52 +/- 21.69 in the NG group, 126.14 +/- 25.65 and 208.97 +/- 22.46 in the combined treatment group, 123.00 +/- 24.26 and 205.10 +/- 26.16 in the Tiapride group, being higher than those in the healthy control group (64.56 +/- 27.59 and 78.13 +/- 33.42; P < 0.05). After treatment, serum levels of of IL-12 and TNF-alpha were 104.67 +/- 16.84 and 183.01 +/- 24.95 in the NG group, 109.04 +/- 16.81 and 179.87 +/- 23.45 in the combined treatment group, significantly lower than before treatment (P < 0.05). But there was no statistical difference in serum levels of IL-12 or TNF-alpha in the Tiapride group between before treatment (123.00 +/- 24.26 and 205.10 +/- 26.16) and after treatment (117.75 +/- 16.79 and 199.76 +/- 33.21; P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: NG could modulate abnormal serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha in TS children patients, which might be one of its pharmacodynamic mechanisms for treating TS.
