BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with higher incidence of major surgery. No studies have evaluated the association between preoperative kidney function and postoperative outcomes across a wide spectrum of procedures. We aimed to evaluate the association between CKD and 30-day postoperative outcomes across surgical specialties. METHODS: We selected adult patients undergoing surgery across eight specialties. The primary study endpoint was major complications, defined as death, unplanned reoperation, cardiac complication, or stroke within 30 days following surgery. Secondary outcomes included Clavien-Dindo high-grade complications, as well as cardiac, pulmonary, infectious, and thromboembolic complications. Multivariable regression was performed to evaluate the association between CKD and 30-day postoperative complications, adjusted for baseline characteristics, surgical specialty, and operative time. RESULTS: In total, 1,912,682 patients were included. The odds of major complications (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.14 [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.07, 2.21]), death (aOR 3.03 [95% CI: 2.88, 3.19]), unplanned reoperation (aOR 1.57 [95% CI: 1.51, 1.64]), cardiac complication (aOR 3.51 [95% CI: 3.25, 3.80]), and stroke (aOR 1.89 [95% CI: 1.64, 2.17]) were greater for patients with CKD stage 5 vs. stage 1. A similar pattern was observed for the secondary endpoints. CONCLUSION: This population-based study demonstrates the negative impact of CKD on operative outcomes across a diverse range of procedures and patients.

The origin of life on Earth is believed to be from the ocean, which offers abundant resources in its depths. However, deep-sea operations are limited due to the lack of underwater robots and rigid grippers with sensitive force sensors. Therefore, it is crucial for deep-sea pressure sensors to be integrated with mechanical hands for manipulation. Here, a flexible stress sensor is presented that can function effectively under high water pressure in the deep ocean. Inspired by biological structures found in the abyssal zone, our sensor is designed with an internal and external pressure balance structure (hollow interlocking spherical structure). The digital light processing (DLP) three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is utilized to construct this complex structure after obtaining optimized structural parameters using finite element simulation. The sensor exhibits linear sensitivity of 0.114 kPa-1 within the range of 0-15 kPa and has an extremely short response time of 32 ms, good dynamic-static load response capability, and excellent resistance cycling stability. It shows high sensitivity of 1.74 kPa-1 even under 30 MPa static water pressures and the theoretical working pressure can exceed 110 MPa, which provides a new solution for deep-sea robots.

Lipid disorders are related to the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Remnant cholesterol (RC), a nonclassical and once-neglected risk factor for NAFLD, has recently received new attention. In this study, we assessed the relationship between the RC levels and NAFLD risk. We searched across PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, with no restrictions on publication languages. Retrospective cohort studies and cross-sectional studies were enrolled from the inception of the databases until August 6, 2023. A random-effect model was applied to construct the mean difference, and a 95% confidence interval was applied to assess the relationship between the RC levels and NAFLD risk. We used two methods to estimate RC levels: Calculated-1 subtracts low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol from total cholesterol; Calculated-2 uses the Friedewald formula for LDL-C when triglycerides are <4.0 mmol/L, otherwise directly measured. A total of 265 published studies were selected through preliminary retrieval. Of these, six studies met the inclusion requirements and were enrolled in the meta-analysis. The RC level in the NAFLD group was significantly higher than that in the non-NAFLD group (mean difference: 0.18, 95% confidence interval: 0.10-0.26, P < 0.00001). We conducted subgroup analyses of computational methods and geographic regions. Notably, in the subgroup analysis of Calculation Method 2, the NAFLD group had significantly higher RC levels than the non-NAFLD group. On the other hand, in Calculation Method 1, the difference between the two groups was insignificant. In both the Asian and non-Asian populations, the RC levels were significantly higher in the NAFLD group than in the non-NAFLD group. The association of RC with an increased NAFLD risk was not dependent on the triglyceride. This meta-analysis suggests that elevated RC levels are associated with an increased risk of NAFLD. In addition to the conventional risk factors for fatty liver, clinicians should be concerned about the RC levels in the clinic.

BACKGROUND: This study examined the improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia after uterine artery embolisation (UAE) in women with symptomatic adenomyosis and identified factors that could predict the improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia. METHODS: This retrospective study included women with adenomyosis who underwent bilateral UAE between December 2014 and December 2016. The percentage of the volume of the absence of contrast enhancement on T1-weighted images was evaluated 5-7 days after UAE. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to determine a cut-off point and predict the improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia. RESULTS: Forty-eight patients were included. At 24 and 36 months after UAE, the improvement rates for dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia were 60.4% (29/48) and 85.7% (30/35), and the recurrence rates were 19.4% (7/36) and 9.1% (3/33), respectively. Only the percentage of the volume of the absence of contrast enhancement on T1-weighted images was associated with the improvement of dysmenorrhoea (p = 0.001, OR = 1.051; 95% CI: 1.02-1.08) and menorrhagia (p = 0.006, OR = 1.077; 95% CI: 1.021-1.136). When the cut-off value of the ROC analysis was 73.1%, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for the improvement of dysmenorrhoea were 58.6%, 94.7%, 94.4%, and 60%, while they were 58.9%, 80%, 100%, 100%, and 45.5% for the improvement of dysmenorrhoea. CONCLUSION: Bilateral UAE for symptomatic adenomyosis led to good improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia. The percentage of the volume of the absence of contrast enhancement on T1-weighted images of the uterus in postoperative magnetic resonance imaging might be associated with the improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia.

The percentage of the volume of the absence of contrast enhancement on images in postoperative T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the uterus might be associated with the improvement of dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia.

Objective: We sought to examine whether the outcomes of patients who receive a surgical procedure on Friday the 13th differ from patients who receive surgery on flanking Fridays. Background: Numerous studies have demonstrated that increased anxiety from the provider or patient around the time of surgery can lead to worse outcomes. Superstitious patients often express significant concern and anxiety when undergoing a surgical procedure on Friday the 13th. Methods: A retrospective, population-based cohort study of 19,747 adults undergoing 1 of 25 common surgical procedures on Friday the 13th or flanking control Fridays (Friday the 6th and Friday the 20th) between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2019, with 1 year of follow-up. The main outcomes included death, readmission, and complications at 30 days (short-term), 90 days (intermediate-term), and 1 year (long-term). Results: A total of 7,349 (37.2%) underwent surgery on Friday the 13th, and 12,398 (62.8%) underwent surgery on a flanking Friday during the study period. Patient characteristics were similar between the 2 groups. We found no evidence that patients receiving surgery on Friday the 13th group were more likely to experience the composite primary outcome at 30 days [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.02 (95% CI = 0.94-1.09)], 90 days [aOR = 0.97 (95% CI = 0.90-1.04)], and 1 year [aOR = 0.99 (95% CI = 0.94-1.04)] after surgery. Conclusion: Patients receiving surgery on Friday the 13th do not appear to fare worse than those treated on ordinary Fridays with respect to the composite outcome.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely related to metabolic syndrome and remains a major global health burden. The increased prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) worldwide has contributed to the rising incidence of NAFLD. It is widely believed that atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is associated with NAFLD. In the past decade, the clinical implications of NAFLD have gone beyond liver-related morbidity and mortality, with a majority of patient deaths attributed to malignancy, coronary heart disease (CHD), and other cardiovascular (CVD) complications. To better define fatty liver disease associated with metabolic disorders, experts proposed a new term in 2020 - metabolic dysfunction associated with fatty liver disease (MAFLD). Along with this new designation, updated diagnostic criteria were introduced, resulting in some differentiation between NAFLD and MAFLD patient populations, although there is overlap. The aim of this review is to explore the relationship between MAFLD and ASCVD based on the new definitions and diagnostic criteria, while briefly discussing potential mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease in patients with MAFLD.

INTRODUCTION: First-line systemic therapy for metastatic urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (mUC) consists of platinum-based chemotherapy in most patients and PD1/L1 inhibitors in selected patients. Multiple combination chemoimmunotherapy trials failed to show a clear benefit over chemotherapy alone. We used real-world data to evaluate clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with receipt of first-line chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or combination chemoimmunotherapy treatment for metastatic bladder cancer and examined differences in overall survival (OS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used the National Cancer Database to identify patients with stage IV mUC diagnosed between 2014 and 2018, who were treated with first-line immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or combination treatment. We performed multivariable logistic regression modeling to determine factors associated with treatment receipt Adjusted Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression were used to evaluate the association between treatment and OS. RESULTS: In our cohort of 4,169 patients, multivariable analysis identified increasing age (RRR: 1.07, 95%CI, 1.06-1.08) and comorbidity burden (, as independent predictors of receiving immunotherapy. Treatment at an academic facility was associated with increased likelihood of combination treatment (RRR: 1.29, 95%CI, 1.01-1.65). After IPTW, we found that combination therapy (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.72; 95%CI, 0.62-0.83) was associated with improved survival compared to chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with older age and more comorbidities were more likely to receive immunotherapy than chemotherapy for first-line treatment of metastatic urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. Utilization of chemoimmunotherapy was observed to be higher in academic centers and was associated with improved survival compared to chemotherapy.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association between surgical modality (RARC vs. ORC) and the risk of 30-day complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We utilized the American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) Cystectomy-Targeted database from 2019 to 2021. The primary outcome was a composite of major complications including 30-day mortality, reoperation, cardiac events, and stroke. Secondary outcomes included individual major and cystectomy-specific complications. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to minimize inherent differences within our cohort. We performed logistic regression to assess the association between outcomes of interest and operative modality. RESULTS: We found no difference between operative modality and the primary outcome, however, RARC was associated with a 70% lower risk of 30-day mortality (OR 0.30, 95% CI 0.13-0.70) and had favorable outcomes with respect to respiratory, deep venous thrombosis, wound complications, and length of stay. Limitations are related to residual confounding given the observational methodology. CONCLUSIONS: RARC was associated with reduced risk of multiple 30-day complications, including mortality, as well as organ system and cystectomy-specific outcomes. These data support the clinical benefit of increased adoption of RARC.

The SARS-CoV-2, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, poses a significant threat to global healthcare. Peptide and peptide-based inhibitors, known for their safety, efficacy, and selectivity, have recently emerged as promising candidates for treating late-developing viral infections. In this study, three peptides were selected to target different stages of viral invasion, specifically ACE2 and S protein binding, as well as membrane fusion. The objective was to assess their ability to impede the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike pseudotyped virus. Our findings revealed that a combination of these three peptides demonstrated enhanced antiviral effects. This outcome substantiates the feasibility of developing effective peptide combinations to combat diseases related to SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the three-peptide combinations, designed to target multiple aspects of SARS-CoV-2 viral entry, exhibited heightened viral inhibition and broad-spectrum antiviral properties.

Graphene (Gr) has shown great potential in the field of oxidation protection for metals. However, numerous studies have shown that Gr will suffer structural degradation on metal surface during high-temperature oxidation, which significantly limited the effectiveness of their oxidation protection. Therefore, understanding the degradation mechanism of Gr is of great interest to enhance their structural stability. Here, the effect of copper (Cu) surface roughness on the high-temperature structural stability of single-layer graphene (SLG) was examined using Cu covered with SLG as a model material. SLG/Cu with different roughness values was obtained via high-temperature annealing of the model material. After high-temperature oxidation at 500 °C, Raman spectra analysis showed that the defect density of the oxidized SLG increased from 41% to 81% when the surface roughness varied from 37 nm to 81 nm. Combined with density functional theory calculations, it was found that the lower formation energy of the C-O bond on rough Cu surfaces (0.19 eV) promoted the formation of defects in SLG. This study may provide guidance for improving the effectiveness of SLG for the oxidation protection of metallic materials.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) frequently results in compromised visual function, with hyperglycemia-induced disruption of the blood-retinal barrier (BRB) through various pathways as a critical mechanism. Existing DR treatments fail to address early and potentially reversible microvascular alterations. This study examined the effects of empagliflozin (EMPA), a selective Sodium-glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, on the retina of db/db mice. The objective of this study is to investigate the potential role of EMPA in the prevention and delay of DR. METHODS: db/db mice were randomly assigned to either the EMPA treatment group (db/db + Emp) or the model group (db/db), while C57 mice served as the normal control group (C57). Mice in the db/db + Emp group received EMPA for eight weeks. Body weight, fasting blood glucose (FBG), and blood VEGF were subsequently measured in all mice, along with the detection of specific inflammatory factors and BRB proteins in the retina. Retinal SGLT2 protein expression was compared using immunohistochemical analysis, and BRB structural changes were observed via electron microscopy. RESULTS: EMPA reduced FBG, blood VEGF, and retinal inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-6, and VEGF levels in the eye tissues of db/db mice. EMPA also increased Claudin-1, Occludin-1, and ZO-1 levels while decreasing ICAM-1 and Fibronectin, thereby preserving BRB function in db/db mice. Immunohistochemistry revealed that EMPA reduced SGLT2 expression in the retina of diabetic mice, and electron microscopy demonstrated that EMPA diminished tight junction damage between retinal vascular endothelial cells and prevented retinal vascular basement membrane thickening in diabetic mice. CONCLUSION: EMPA mitigates inflammation and preserves BRB structure and function, suggesting that it may prevent DR or serve as an effective early treatment for DR.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity in prostate cancer survivors may increase mortality. Better characterization of this effect may allow better counseling on obesity as a targetable lifestyle factor to reduce mortality in prostate cancer survivors. The purpose of this study was to determine whether pre- and post-diagnostic obesity and weight change affect all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease specific mortality, and prostate cancer specific mortality in patients with nonmetastatic prostate cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort analysis of 5,077 patients diagnosed with localized prostate cancer from 1997 to 2017 with median follow-up of 15.5 years. The Utah Population Database linked to the Utah Cancer Registry was used to identify patients at a variety of treatment centers. RESULTS: Pre-diagnosis obesity was associated with a 62% increased risk of cardiovascular disease specific mortality and a 34% increased risk of all-cause mortality (HR 1.62, 95% CI 1.05-2.50; HR 1.34, 95% CI 1.07-1.67, respectively). Post-diagnosis obesity increased the risk of cardiovascular disease specific mortality (HR 1.83, 95% CI 1.31-2.56) and all-cause mortality (HR 1.37, 95% CI 1.16-1.64) relative to non-obese men. We found no association between pre-diagnostic obesity or post-diagnostic weight gain and prostate cancer specific mortality. CONCLUSION: Our study strengthens the conclusion that pre-, post-diagnostic obesity and weight gain increase cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality but not prostate cancer specific mortality compared to healthy weight men. An increased emphasis on weight management may improve mortality for prostate cancer survivors who are obese.

Lysosomes are degradation and signalling centres crucial for homeostasis, development and ageing1. To meet diverse cellular demands, lysosomes remodel their morphology and function through constant fusion and fission2,3. Little is known about the molecular basis of fission. Here we identify HPO-27, a conserved HEAT repeat protein, as a lysosome scission factor in Caenorhabditis elegans. Loss of HPO-27 impairs lysosome fission and leads to an excessive tubular network that ultimately collapses. HPO-27 and its human homologue MROH1 are recruited to lysosomes by RAB-7 and enriched at scission sites. Super-resolution imaging, negative-staining electron microscopy and in vitro reconstitution assays reveal that HPO-27 and MROH1 self-assemble to mediate the constriction and scission of lysosomal tubules in worms and mammalian cells, respectively, and assemble to sever supported membrane tubes in vitro. Loss of HPO-27 affects lysosomal morphology, integrity and degradation activity, which impairs animal development and longevity. Thus, HPO-27 and MROH1 act as self-assembling scission factors to maintain lysosomal homeostasis and function.

Organic Na-montmorillonite (OMt-12-2-12·2Y - , Y=CH 3 CO 3 - , C 6 H 5 COO - and Br - ) modified by a series of Gemini quaternary ammonium surfactants with different counterions was prepared for enhancing the adsorption capacity of methyl orange. Compared with the initial adsorption capacity of 5.251 mg/g of Na-Mt, the adsorption effect of OMts under the optimal conditions increased by about 31~34 times. The adsorption isotherms and kinetics of all adsorption processes were respectively described by Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models. The structure, hydrophobicity and hydration of the counterions, as well as the affinity of the counterions with the long aliphatic chains, had a certain influence on the adsorption performance of OMts for methyl orange.

BACKGROUND: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a common heart disease and a leading cause of death in developed countries and some developing countries such as China. It is recognized as a multifactorial disease, with dyslipidemia being closely associated with the progression of coronary atherosclerosis. Numerous studies have confirmed the relationship between a single indicator of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and CHD. However, the association between LDL-C to HDL-C ratio (LHR) and CHD remains unclear. This study aimed to comprehensively explore the association between LHR and CHD. METHODS: This meta-analysis was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were comprehensively searched up to June 15, 2023, to find the studies that indicated the connection between LHR and CHD. A total of 12 published studies were selected. The random-effects model was used to pool the data and mean difference (MD), and the 95% confidence intervals (CI) were taken as the overall outcome. No language restrictions existed in the study selection. The Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 12 were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: Twelve high-quality clinical studies involving 5544 participants, including 3009 patients with CHD, were enrolled in the meta-analysis. The findings revealed that the LHR was higher by 0.65 in patients with CHD than in those without CHD (MD, 0.65; 95% CI, 0.50-0.80). CONCLUSION: The LHR was found to be positively correlated with CHD, suggesting that it may serve as a potential indicator of CHD.

Background and Aims: Neonatal diseases are a significant threat to global public health, affecting the homeostasis and well-being of patients and reflecting the status of, and challenges to, regional, national, and global healthcare systems. This study sought to investigate how the disease spectrum observed among neonatal inpatients changed after the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: The present hospital-based retrospective study analyzed the demographic and clinical characteristics of 19,943 hospitalized newborns from January 2018 to December 2022 using data derived from pediatric department registers. Results: According to the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) classification criteria, the two most common neonatal disorders during this study period were "Certain conditions originating in the perinatal period" and "Disease of the respiratory system." Following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020 onwards), the number of neonatal patients declined markedly (5742 per year vs. 2820 per year), and the incidence of "Disease of the respiratory system" was significantly lower than in 2018-2019 (25.72% vs. 17.46%). Conclusion: The study offers detailed insights into the shifts in neonatal disease patterns at the Seventh Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a foundation for future research and policymaking efforts.

The photovoltaic (PV) effect in non-centrosymmetric materials consisting of a single component under homogeneous illumination can exceed the fundamental Shockley-Queisser limit compared to the traditional p-n junctions. Two-dimensional (2D) materials with a reduced dimensionality and smaller bandgap were predicated to be better candidates for the PV effect with high efficiency exceeding that of traditional ferroelectric perovskite oxides. Here, we report the giant intrinsic PV effect in atomically thin rhenium disulfide (ReS2) with centrosymmetry breaking. In graphene/ReS2/graphene sandwich structures, significant short-circuit currents (Isc) were observed with illumination over the visible spectral range, presenting the highest responsivity (110 mA W-1) and external quantum efficiency (25.7%) among those reported PV effects in 2D materials. This giant PV effect could be ascribed to the spontaneous-polarization induced depolarization field in even-number-layered ReS2 flakes benefiting from the distorted 1T lattice structure. Our results provide a new potential candidate material for the development of novel high-efficiency, miniaturized and easily integrated photodetectors and solar cells.

Moraxella catarrhalis is a major cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) plays an important role in the inflammatory response in host respiratory epithelial cells. M. catarrhalis induces an inflammatory immune response in respiratory epithelial cells that is mostly dependent on TLR2. However, the mechanisms by which this pathogen adheres to and invades the respiratory epithelium are not well understood. The present study aimed to reveal the role of TLR2 in M. catarrhalis adhesion to and invasion into alveolar epithelial cells, using molecular techniques. Pretreatment with the TLR2 inhibitor TLR2-IN-C29 enhanced M. catarrhalis adhesion to A549 cells but reduced its invasion, whereas the agonist Pam3CSK4 reduced both M. catarrhalis adhesion and invasion into A549 cells. Similarly, M. catarrhalis 73-OR strain adhesion and invasion were significantly reduced in TLR2-/- A549 cells. Moreover, the lung clearance rate of the 73-OR strain was significantly higher in TLR2-/- C57/BL6J mice than in wild-type (WT) mice. Histological analysis showed that inflammatory responses were milder in TLR2-/- C57/BL6J mice than in WT mice, which was confirmed by a decrease in cytokine levels in TLR2-/- C57/BL6J mice. Overall, these results indicate that TLR2 promoted M. catarrhalis adhesion and invasion of A549 cells and lung tissues and mediated inflammatory responses in infected lungs. This study provides important insights into the development of potential therapeutic strategies against M. catarrhalis and TLR2-induced inflammatory responses.

PURPOSE: The link between sleep duration and lung cancer risk has been suggested by some epidemiological studies. This meta-analysis was performed to further understand this relationship. METHODS: MEDLINE and EMBASE entries up to December 2022 were searched for eligible publications. A random effects model was used to calculate pooled relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Publication bias was estimated using Begg's and Egger's regression asymmetry test. RESULTS: The meta-analysis included 11 studies (including 10 cohort studies and 1 case-control study). The pooled adjusted RRs were 1.13 (95% CI: 1.03-1.24) for short sleep duration and 1.21 (95% CI: 1.07-1.37) for long sleep duration. CONCLUSION: The findings of this meta-analysis suggested that both short and long sleep duration are associated with an increase in lung cancer risk. These findings need to be corroborated through large-scale prospective studies.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have evaluated mental health disorders comprehensively among patients with prostate cancer on long-term follow-up. The primary aim of our study was to assess the incidence of mental health disorders among patients with prostate cancer compared with a general population cohort. A secondary aim was to investigate potential risk factors for mental health disorders among patients with prostate cancer. METHODS: Cohorts of 18 134 patients with prostate adenocarcinomas diagnosed between 2004 and 2017 and 73470 men without cancer matched on age, birth state, and follow-up time were identified. Mental health diagnoses were identified from electronic health records and statewide health-care facilities data. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios. All statistical tests were 2-sided. RESULTS: The hazard ratios for mood disorders, including depression, among prostate cancer survivors increased for all follow-up periods compared with the general population. The hazard ratios for any mental illness increased with Hispanic, Black, or multiple races; people who were underweight or obese; those with advanced prostate cancer; and those undergoing their first course cancer treatment. We also observed statistically significantly increased hazard ratios for mental health disorders among patients with lower socioeconomic status (P < .0001) and increasing duration of androgen-deprivation therapy (P = .0348). Prostate cancer survivors had a 61% increased hazard ratio for death with a depression diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Prostate cancer diagnosis was associated with a higher risk of mental health disorders compared with the general population, which was observed as long as 10-16 years after cancer diagnosis. Providing long-term mental health support may be beneficial to increasing life expectancy for patients with prostate cancer.
