RESUMEN

Despite considerable research efforts in recent years, the deeper phylogenetic relationships among skipper butterflies (Hesperiidae) remain unresolved. This is primarily because of limited sampling, especially within Asian and African lineages. In this study, we consolidated previous data and extensively sampled Asian and African taxa to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships within Hesperiidae. The molecular dataset comprised sequences from two mitochondrial and two nuclear gene regions from 563 species that represented 353 genera. Our analyses revealed seven subfamilies within Hesperiidae: Coeliadinae, Euschemoninae, Eudaminae, Pyrginae, Heteropterinae, Trapezitinae, and Hesperiinae. The systematics of most tribes and genera aligned with those of prior studies. However, notable differences were observed in several tribes and genera. Overall, the position of taxa assigned to incertae sedis in Hesperiinae is largely clarified in this study. Our results strongly support the monophyly of the tribe Tagiadini (Pyrginae), and the systematics of some genera are clarified with comprehensive discussion. We recognize 15 tribes within the subfamily Hesperiinae. Of these, nine tribes are discussed in detail: Aeromachini, Astictopterini, Erionotini, Unkanini (new status), Ancistroidini, Ismini (confirmed status), Plastingini (new status), Gretnini (confirmed status), and Eetionini (confirmed status). We propose four subtribes within Astictopterini: Hypoleucina subtrib.n., Aclerosina, Cupithina, and Astictopterina. Furthermore, we describe a new genus (Hyarotoidesgen.n.) and reinstate two genera (Zeareinst.stat. and Separeinst.stat.) as valid. Additionally, we propose several new combinations: Zea mythecacomb.n.,Sepa bononiacomb.n. & reinst.stat., and Sepa umbrosacomb.n. This study, with extensive sampling of Asian and African taxa, greatly enhances the understanding of the knowledge of the skipper tree of life.

Canine circovirus (CanineCV), which is a new mammalian circovirus first reported in the United States in 2012, mainly causes diarrhea and vomiting in dogs. As CanineCV evolves and new subtypes emerge, there is an urgent need for new detection technologies to improve the sensitivity and detection rates of viruses in complex scenarios. A chip digital PCR(cdPCR) assay was established for the detection of CanineCV in this study. The results showed good reproducibility, specificity and a linear relationship; the minimum detection limit of CanineCV by cdPCR was 6.62 copies/µL, which is 10 times more sensitive than quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The qPCR-positive detection rate was 1 %, while CanineCV cdPCR (2.1 %) exhibited a greater positive detection rate. Fifteen complete genomes were sequenced and subdivided into CanineCV-1 and CanineCV-3. In conclusion, we developed a rapid, reliable, and specific cdPCR method for screening and monitoring canine CV.

The evolution processes of complex systems carry key information in the systems' functional properties. Applying machine learning algorithms, we demonstrate that the historical formation process of various networked complex systems can be extracted, including protein-protein interaction, ecology, and social network systems. The recovered evolution process has demonstrations of immense scientific values, such as interpreting the evolution of protein-protein interaction network, facilitating structure prediction, and particularly revealing the key co-evolution features of network structures such as preferential attachment, community structure, local clustering, degree-degree correlation that could not be explained collectively by previous theories. Intriguingly, we discover that for large networks, if the performance of the machine learning model is slightly better than a random guess on the pairwise order of links, reliable restoration of the overall network formation process can be achieved. This suggests that evolution history restoration is generally highly feasible on empirical networks.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have observed a link between immunophenotypes and lung cancer, both of which are closely associated with genetic factors. However, the causal relationship between them remains unclear. METHODS: Bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) was performed on publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics to analyze the causal relationships between 731 immunophenotypes and lung cancer. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to verify the robustness, heterogeneity, and potential horizontal pleiotropy of our findings. RESULTS: Following Bonferroni adjustment, CD14- CD16+ monocyte (OR = 0.930, 95%CI 0.900-0.960, P = 8.648 × 10- 6, PBonferroni = 0.006) and CD27 on CD24+ CD27+ B cells (OR = 1.036, 95%CI 1.020-1.053, P = 1.595 × 10 - 5, PBonferroni = 0.012) were identified as having a causal role in lung cancer via the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method. At a more relaxed threshold, CD27 on IgD+ CD24+ B cell (OR = 1.035, 95%CI 1.017-1.053, P = 8.666 × 10- 5, PBonferroni = 0.063) and CD27 on switched memory B cell (OR = 1.037, 95%CI 1.018-1.056, P = 1.154 × 10- 4, PBonferroni = 0.084) were further identified. No statistically significant effects of lung cancer on immunophenotypes were found. CONCLUSIONS: The elevated level of CD14- CD16+ monocytes was a protective factor against lung cancer. Conversely, CD27 on CD24+ CD27+ B cell was a risk factor. CD27 on class-switched memory B cells and IgD+ CD24+ B cells were potential risk factors for lung cancer. This research enhanced our comprehension of the interplay between immune responses and lung cancer risk. Additionally, these findings offer valuable perspectives for the development of immunologically oriented therapeutic strategies.

Inorganic luminescent materials generally suffer from thermal quenching due to accelerated nonradiative transitions at high temperature, whereas Yb3+ sensitized core nanocrystals with small sizes (<30 nm) exhibit a temperature-dependent upconversion luminescence (UCL) enhancement. The related mechanism of the anomalous UCL thermal behavior is still under debate. In this work, we find that the UCL of NaGdF4:Yb/Tm@NaGdF4 inert-shell nanocrystals declines at elevated temperature, while that of NaGdF4:Yb/Ho@NaGdF4:Yb active-shell ones is enhanced. The thermally-induced UCL enhancement of active-shell nanocrystals is attributed to a gradually attenuated surface quenching effect. The initiators of the surface quenching are H2O molecules, which mainly attenuate Yb3+ excited states through an overtone energy transfer. The energy transfer is a coupling effect between ion dipoles of Yb3+ and atomic dipoles of H2O. Utilizing the opposite UCL temperature-dependence of active- and inert-shell nanocrystals, we designed their hybrids, which exhibit temperature-responsive multicolor emissions. The color-tunable hybrids are demonstrated to be excellent candidates for producing anticounterfeiting patterns with high security but simple recognition methods.

The COVID-19 infection cases have surged globally, causing devastations to both the society and economy. A key factor contributing to the sustained spreading is the presence of a large number of asymptomatic or hidden spreaders, who mix among the susceptible population without being detected or quarantined. Due to the continuous emergence of new virus variants, even if vaccines have been widely used, the detection of asymptomatic infected persons is still important in the epidemic control. Based on the unique characteristics of COVID-19 spreading dynamics, here we propose a theoretical framework capturing the transition probabilities among different infectious states in a network, and extend it to an efficient algorithm to identify asymptotic individuals. We find that using pure physical spreading equations, the hidden spreaders of COVID-19 can be identified with remarkable accuracy, even with incomplete information of the contract-tracing networks. Furthermore, our framework can be useful for other epidemic diseases that also feature asymptomatic spreading.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious disease characterized by hemorrhage, edema, local ischemia and hypoxia, inflammatory reaction, and degeneration of the injured spinal cord, which lacks effective clinical treatments. We design a PEG-SH-GNPs-SAPNS@miR-29a delivery system to repair impaired spinal cord by building a regenerative microenvironment for the recruitment of endogenous neural stem cells. The miR-29a, as an axonal regeneration-related miRNA that overexpression of miR-29a significantly inhibits the expression of PTEN and promotes axonal regeneration of the injured spinal cord. The gold nanoparticles and self-assembling peptide hydrogel composite scaffold (PEG-SH-GNPs-SAPNS@miR-29a delivery system) applied to deliver miR-29a, which recruit endogenous neural stem cells simultaneously. Sustained release of miR-29a and recruitment of endogenous neural stem cells give rise to favorable axonal regeneration and recovery of motor function after spinal cord injury. These findings suggest that the PEG-SH-GNPs-SAPNS@miR-29a delivery system may be an alternative strategy for the treatment of SCI.

Relapse after CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy for large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is commonly ascribed to antigen loss or CAR-T exhaustion. Multiantigen targeting and programmed cell death protein-1 blockade are rational approaches to prevent relapse. Here, we test CD19/22 dual-targeting CAR-T (AUTO3) plus pembrolizumab in relapsed/refractory LBCL (NCT03289455). End points include toxicity (primary) and response rates (secondary). Fifty-two patients received AUTO3 and 48/52 received pembrolizumab. Median age was 59 years (range, 27-83), 46/52 had stage III/ IV disease and median follow-up was 21.6 months. AUTO3 was safe; grade 1-2 and grade 3 cytokine release syndrome affected 18/52 (34.6%) and 1/52 (1.9%) patients, neurotoxicity arose in 4 patients (2/4, grade 3-4), and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis affected 2 patients. Outpatient administration was tested in 20 patients, saving a median of 14 hospital days per patient. Overall response rates were 66% (48.9%, complete response [CR]; 17%, partial response). Median duration of remission (DOR) for CR patients was not reached and for all responding patients was 8.3 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.0-not evaluable). 54.4% (CI: 32.8-71.7) of CR patients and 42.6% of all responding patients were projected to remain progression-free at ≥12 months. AUTO3 ± pembrolizumab for relapsed/refractory LBCL was safe and delivered durable remissions in 54.4% of complete responders, associated with robust CAR-T expansion. Neither dual-targeting CAR-T nor pembrolizumab prevented relapse in a significant proportion of patients, and future developments include next-generation-AUTO3, engineered for superior expansion in vivo, and selection of CAR binders active at low antigen densities.

The enhancement of the park cooling effect (PCE) is one method used to alleviate the urban heat island (UHI). The cooling effect is affected by park factors; however, the importance of these factors in the case of the PCE is still unclear. Optimizing or planning urban parks according to the importance of the influencing factors can effectively enhance the PCE. Herein, we selected 502 urban parks in 29 cities in China with three different climatic regions and quantified the PCE based on the park cooling intensity (PCI) and park cooling area (PCA). Subsequently, the relative importance of the influencing factors for the PCE was compared to identify the main factors. Consequently, certain park planning suggestions were proposed to enhance the cooling effect. The results show that: (1) the PCE increased in the order of arid/semi-arid, semi-humid, and humid regions. (2) The main factors of the PCI differed significantly in different climatic regions; however, the waterbody within a park significantly affected the PCI in all three climates. However, for the PCA, park patch characteristics were the dominant factor, contributing approximately 80% in the three climates regions. (3) In arid/semi-arid and semi-humid regions, the optimal area proportion of waterbody and vegetation within the park were approximately 1:2 and 1:1, respectively, and the threshold value of the park area was 16 ha. In contrast, in the humid region, the addition of a waterbody area within the park, to the best extent possible, enhanced the PCI, and the threshold value of the park area was 19 ha. The unique results of this study are expected to function as a guide to future urban park planning on a regional scale to maximize ecological benefits while mitigating the UHI.

Given the complexity of the application scenarios of rolling bearing and the severe scarcity of fault samples, a solution to the issue of fault diagnosis under varying working conditions along with the absence of fault samples is required. A numerical model-driven cross-domain fault diagnosis method targeting variable working conditions is proposed based on the cross-Domain Nuisance Attribute Projection (cDNAP). Firstly, the simulation datasets consisting of multiple fault types under variable working conditions are constructed to solve the problem of incomplete fault samples. Secondly, the simulation datasets are expanded by means of generating adversarial network to ensure sufficient samples for subsequent model training. Finally, cDNAP is used to obtain the cross-domain simulation projection matrix, which eliminates the variance in the distribution of measured and simulated sample features under varying working conditions. The experimental results of cross-domain for variable working conditions show that the diagnostic accuracy reaches up to 99%. Compared with DANN, DSAN, and DAAN domain adversarial neural networks, the proposed method performs better in bearing fault diagnosis.

Piano score recognition is one of the important research contents in the field of music information retrieval, and it plays an important role in information processing. In order to reduce the influence of vocals on the progress of piano notes and restore the harmonic information corresponding to piano notes, the article models the harmonic information and vocal information corresponding to piano notes in the frequency spectrum. We use the phase space reconstruction method to extract the nonlinear feature parameters in the note audio and use some of the parameters as the training set to construct the support vector machine (SVM) classifier and the other part as the test set to test the recognition effect. Therefore, the method of adaptive signal decomposition and SVM is introduced into the signal preprocessing link, and the corresponding recognition process is established. In order to improve the performance of the support vector machine, the article uses measurement learning method to obtain the measurement learning and uses the measurement learning to replace the Euclidean distance of the Gaussian kernel function of the support vector machine. The SVM method of adaptive signal decomposition and the SVM method of principal component analysis are introduced into the preprocessing process of the note signal, and then the preprocessed signal is reconstructed in phase space, and the corresponding recognition process is established. The method of directly reconstructing the phase space of the original signal has higher accuracy and can be applied to the note recognition of continuous music segments. The final experimental results show that, compared with the current popular piano score recognition algorithm, the recognition accuracy of the proposed piano score recognition algorithm is improved by 3.5% to 12.2%.

For the sake of addressing the issue of extracting multiple features embedded in a noise-heavy vibration signal for bearing compound fault diagnosis, a novel model based on improved adaptive chirp mode decomposition (IACMD) and sparse representation, namely IACMDSR, is developed in this paper. Firstly, the IACMD is employed to simultaneously separate the distinct fault types and extract multiple resonance frequencies induced by them. Next, an adaptive bilateral wavelet hyper-dictionary that digs deeper into the periodicity and waveform characteristics exhibited by the real fault impulse response is constructed to identify and reconstruct each type of fault-induced feature with the help of the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. Finally, the fault characteristic frequency can be detected via an envelope demodulation analysis of the reconstructed signal. A simulation and two sets of experimental results confirm that the developed IACMDSR model is a powerful and versatile tool and consistently outperforms the leading MCKDSR and MCKDMWF models. Furthermore, the developed model has satisfactory capability in practical applications because the IACMD has no requirement for the input number of the signal components and the adaptive bilateral wavelet is powerfully matched to the real fault-induced impulse response.

This work presents a highly secure anticounterfeiting strategy based on upconversion/afterglow hybrids with tricolor emissions tuned by a single 975 nm laser. The hybrids are composed of NaYF4:Yb/Tm and NaYF4:Yb/Er microrods and CaS:Eu2+ afterglow phosphors. Under 975 nm excitation, the hybrids exhibit multicolor emissions from green to white by adjusting laser power and then emit red afterglow light when the 975 nm laser is off. Under synergistic excitation of the blue-green light emitted by Tm/Er microrods, the red afterglow emission not only has a strong initial intensity but also lasts for 3 s. Obvious trichromatic changes from green to white to red can be observed by the naked eye. A pattern printed by the hybrid ink exhibits tricolor emissions by laser adjustment and switch. This proves that upconversion/afterglow hybrids are an excellent candidate for anticounterfeiting applications with high-level security but a simple recognition method.

Verruca plantaris (plantar wart) is a type of benign feet hyperplasia that is caused by a human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. In this study, we aimed to assess the clinical efficacy underlying cantharidin cream in the treatment of Verruca plantaris compared to CO2 laser and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy. One hundred and fifty patients affected with Verruca plantaris were enrolled in this retrospective clinical study. The treatment efficacy rate in the three groups was assessed 4 and 12 weeks after treatment. After 4 weeks of treatment, 46 cases in the externally applied cantharidin cream therapy group were cured with an apparent efficiency of 92.0% (46/50). Contrarily, 42 cases in the CO2 laser group were cured with 84.0% (42/50) efficiency, while 40 cases in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group were cured with an apparent efficiency of 80.0% (40/50). Although the clinical cure rate of Verruca plantaris in the Cantharidin group was greater than in the CO2 laser group and in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group, there were no statistical differences found among the three groups (P = 0.225). After 12 weeks of treatment, 43 cases in the external cantharidin cream therapy group were cured with an apparent efficiency of 86.0% (43/50). Similarly, 39 cases in the CO2 laser group were cured with an apparent efficiency of 78.0% (39/50), while 36 cases in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group were cured with an apparent efficiency of 72.0% (36/50). The statistical differences among the three groups were not found (P =0.230), but the resolution rate of warts in Cantharidin group was the highest among the three groups. The results from this study demonstrated that external cantharidin cream therapy could be served as an alternative treatment for Verruca plantaris.

BACKGROUND: Patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 5 (PNPLA5) is a newly-discovered lipase. Although the PNPLA family plays critical roles in diverse biological processes, the biological functions of PNPLA5 mostly unknown. We previously found that the deletion of Pnpla5 in rats causes a variety of phenotypic abnormalities. In this study, we further explored the effects of Pnpla5 knockout (KO) on male rats. RESULTS: The body weight and testicular or epididymal tissue weight of three to six 3-month-old Pnpla5 KO or wild-type (WT) male Sprague-Dawley rats were measured. The protein expression levels were also measured via western blotting and iTRAQ (isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation) analyses. No significant difference between Pnpla5 KO and WT rats, regarding body weight, testicular or epididymal tissue weight, or hormone levels, were found. However, the relative testicular tissue weight of the KO (Pnpla5-/-) rats was higher (P < 0.05) than that of WT rats. Significant increases in apoptotic cells numbers (P < 0.001) and BAX and Caspase-9 expression levels were observed in the testicular tissue of Pnpla5-/- rats. Moreover, iTRAQ analysis revealed that the levels of proteins involved in steroid metabolism and wound healing were significantly decreased in Pnpla5-/- rats. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that Pnpla5 knockout induced apoptosis in rat testes. We also ascertained that Pnpla5 plays an important role in lipid metabolism, wound healing, and affects reproductive organs negatively, providing new target genes and pathways that can be analyzed to unravel the biological function of Pnpla5.

PURPOSE: Treatment of ONFH at an early stage is a challenging issue. The modified minimally invasive core decompression combined with bone graft implantation remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the early-middle outcomes of four groups with different bone grafts. METHODS: A total of 182 patients (192 hips) with ONFH at the ARCO II stage were randomly divided into four groups. The free fibular graft group (FFG), free vascularized fibular graft group (FVFG), autologous iliac bone group (ABG), and ß-tricalcium bioceramics phosphate graft (ß-TCPG) group. Each group was treated with the modified minimally invasive core decompression and bone graft implantation. The operation time and blood loss were recorded by the same observer. The clinical outcome was evaluated by the Harris Hip Score and VAS score (before, 14 days after surgery, and at the last follow-up). The radiographic progression of ONFH was evaluated at least 36 months of follow-up. RESULTS: All cases were successful without any complications after the operation. The patients were followed up for 42 to 48 (44.62 ± 1.81) months. There were statistically significant differences among the four groups in operation time (F value = 1520.67; P < 0.01) and blood loss (F value = 5366.81; P < 0.01). The Harris Hip Score in each group was improved significantly from pre-operation to last follow-up (all P < 0.01). At the last follow-up, the difference in the Harris Hip Score in each group was not statistically significant (F value = 0.54; P = 0.984). The VAS scores in each group were decreased significantly from the pre-operation to14 days after surgery (all P < 0.01). At 14 days after surgery, the difference in the VAS score in each group was not statistically significant (F value = 0.64; P = 0.59). At the last follow-up, three hips collapsed on the femoral head in the FFG group, two in the FVFG group, two in the ABG group, and three in the ß-TCPG group. CONCLUSION: The four different bone graft implantation showed satisfactory early-middle outcomes. As compared to other bone grafts, the ß-TCP bioceramics graft has the advantages of shorter operation time and lesser blood loss. It may be a choice as a bone graft for the treatment of ONFH at an early stage.

RESUMEN

The new species, Nola nayongensis sp. nov., is described from Guizhou, China. Nola canioralis (Walker, 1863) is reported from China for the first time. Nola quadriguttula Inoue, 2000 and Nola thyrophora (Hampson, 1914) are reported from mainland China for the first time. The distributions of three known species from China (Nola pseudendotherma Lszl, Ronkay Ronkay, 2014, Nola duplicilinea (Hampson, 1900) and Nola astigma Hampson, 1894) are updated. Adults and the male genitalia are illustrated.

BACKGROUND: Various pathogenic bacterial infections caused by acupuncture have raised widespread concern, but paravertebral abscesses and bloodstream infections of Burkholderia pseudomallei (B.pseudomallei) after acupuncture have not been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: A 49-year-old man was admitted to hospital with recurrent back pain and fever for 1 month, along with the finding of undiagnosed diabetes. He was considered to have tuberculosis because of unrelieved high fever and pulmonary nodules. Bilateral blood culture suggested B.pseudomallei infection, MRI of the lumbar spine suggested paravertebral abscess, and the final diagnosis was paravertebral abscess and bloodstream infection after acupuncture combined with migrating lung infection. He was discharged after abscess debridement and intensive anti-infective therapy, but no further oral antibiotics were administered because of his poor adherence. More than 5 months later, he was readmitted with the urine culture findings of B.pseudomallei. No other abscess formation was observed and he received oral antibiotics for more than 3 months without recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture may lead to B.pseudomallei infection in high-risk groups, and inadequate treatment can lead to recurrent infections.

Percolation theory has been widely used to study phase transitions in network systems. It has also successfully explained various macroscopic spreading phenomena across different fields. Yet, the theoretical frameworks have been focusing on direct interactions among nodes, while recent empirical observations have shown that indirect interactions are common in many network systems like social and ecological networks, among others. By investigating the detailed mechanism of both direct and indirect influence on scientific collaboration networks, here we show that indirect influence can play the dominant role in behavioral influence. To address the lack of theoretical understanding of such indirect influence on the macroscopic behavior of the system, we propose a percolation mechanism of indirect interactions called induced percolation. Surprisingly, our model exhibits a unique anisotropy property. Specifically, directed networks show first-order abrupt transitions as opposed to the second-order continuous transition in the same network structure but with undirected links. A mix of directed and undirected links leads to rich hybrid phase transitions. Furthermore, a unique feature of the nonmonotonic pattern is observed in network connectivities near the critical point. We also present an analytical framework to characterize the proposed induced percolation, paving the way to further understanding network dynamics with indirect interactions.
