RESUMEN

In recent decades, the randomized response technique has attracted researchers due to its usefulness in sensitive surveys. The randomized response procedure is used for the collection of responses on sensitive issues such as cheating in examination, income earned through illegal sources, expenditure on luxury items, and amount of tax paid, etc. This study introduces a new variant of quantitative randomized response models for use with sample surveys where the variable of interest is quantitative. The properties of a mean estimator based on the new technique have been studied. Further, the combined and separate evaluation metrics for efficiency and privacy level have also been derived and compared with those of the existing methods. Further, a simulation study has been conducted to prove the improvement in the degree of privacy protection and efficiency. The findings reveal that the suggested randomized response technique is not only more efficient than the existing techniques, but also improves the joint measure of efficiency and respondents' privacy, making it preferable over the existing techniques. A real-world example of a sample survey through the suggested model is also presented which illustrates its usefulness in practical surveys on sensitive issues.

In sampling theory, a majority of the available estimators of population variance are designed for use with non-sensitive variables only. Such estimators cannot perform efficiently when the variable of interest is of sensitive nature, such as use of drugs, illegal income, abortion, cheating in examination, the amount of income tax payable, and the violation of rules by employees, etc. In the current literature, the shortage of research studies on variance estimators of a sensitive variable has created a big research gap and a room for improvement in the efficiency of such estimators. In this paper, a new randomized scrambling technique is proposed, along with a new estimator of population variance. The new estimator achieves improvement in efficiency over the available variance estimators. The proposed estimator is designed for use with simple random sampling and uses the information on an auxiliary variable. The improvement in efficiency is shown for different choices of constants. Besides efficiency, improvement in the unified measure of estimator quality is also achieved with the proposed estimator under the new randomized response model.

In social surveys, the randomized response technique can be considered a popular method for collecting reliable information on sensitive variables. Over the past few decades, it has been a common practice that survey researchers develop new randomized response techniques and show their improvement over previous models. In majority of the available research studies, the authors tend to report only those findings which are favorable to their proposed models. They often tend to hide the situations where their proposed randomized response models perform worse than the already available models. This approach results in biased comparisons between models which may influence the decision of practitioners about the choice of a randomized response technique for real-life problems. We conduct a neutral comparative study of four available quantitative randomized response techniques using separate and combined metrics of respondents' privacy level and model's efficiency. Our findings show that, depending on the particular situation at hand, some models may be better than the other models for a particular choice of values of parameters and constants. However, they become less efficient when a different set of parameter values are considered. The mathematical conditions for efficiency of different models have also been obtained.

In survey sampling, systematic sampling design has attracted survey researchers in recent years due to its simplicity of use. We introduce a modified variant of systematic sampling scheme which improves the efficiency of a recently developed diagonal systematic sampling method. The suggested modification is also found to be more efficient than the other popular sampling designs in circumstances where the units of the population under consideration exhibit an increasing or decreasing perfect or near-perfect linear trend. Moreover, it is observed that the conditions for efficiency are mathematically strong and practically always hold, hence making the suggested sampling design preferable over the available sampling designs.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is globally recognized as a prominent cause of dementia for which efficient treatment is still lacking. New candidate compounds that are biologically potent are regularly tested. We, therefore, hypothesized to study the neuroprotective potential of Zinc Ortho Methyl Carbonodithioate (thereafter called ZOMEC) against Scopolamine (SCOP) induced Alzheimer's disease (AD) model using adult albino mice. We post-administered ZOMEC (30 mg/Kg) into two group of mice for three weeks on daily basis that received either 0.9% saline or SCOP (1 mg/Kg) for initial two weeks. The other two groups of mice received 0.9% saline and SCOP (1 mg/Kg) respectively. After memory related behavioral analysis the brain homogenates were evaluated for the antioxidant potential of ZOMEC and multiple protein markers were examined through western blotting. Our results provide enough evidences that ZOMEC decrease oxidative stress by increasing catalase (CAT) and glutathione S transferase (GST) and decreasing the lipid peroxidation (LPO). The SIRT1 and pre and post synaptic marker proteins, synaptophysin (SYP) as well as post synaptic density protein (PSD-95) expression were also enhanced upon ZOMEC treatment. Furthermore, memory impairment was rescued and ZOMEC appreciably abrogated the Aß accumulation, BACE1 expression C and the p-JNK pathway. The inflammatory protein markers, NF-kß and IL-1ß in ZOMEC treated mice were also comparable with control group. The predicted interaction of ZOMEC with SIRT1 was further confirmed by molecular docking. These findings thus provide initial reports on efficacy of ZOMEC in SCOP induced AD model.

A new mechanistic approach to overcome the neurodegenerative disorders caused by oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is highly stressed in this article. Thus, a newly formulated drug (zinc ortho-methyl carbonodithioate (ZOMEC)) was investigated for five weeks on seven-week-old BALB/c male mice. ZOMEC 30 mg/kg was postadministered intraperitoneally during the third week of pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) injection. The brain homogenates of the mice were evaluated for their antioxidant potential for ZOMEC. The results including catalase (CAT), glutathione S transferase (GST), and lipid peroxidation (LPO) demonstrated that ZOMEC significantly reverted the oxidative stress stimulated by PTZ in the mouse brain. ZOMEC upregulated p-Akt/Nrf-2 pathways (also supported by molecular docking methods) to revoke PTZ-induced apoptotic protein markers. ZOMEC reversed PTZ-induced neuronal synapse deficits, improved oxidative stress-aided memory impairment, and inhibited the amyloidogenic pathway in mouse brains. The results suggested the potential of ZOMEC as a new, safe, and neurotherapeutic agent to cure neurodegenerative disorders by decreasing AD-like neuropathology in the animal PTZ model.

BACKGROUND: α-Tocopherol is a potent antioxidant present in the skin. Its concentration decreases with age. Synthetically available α-tocopherol is viscous, irritating to skin and unstable toward oxidation and ultraviolet (UV) light. AIMS: To develop fatty acids based nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) gel loaded with α-tocopherol and to evaluate its moisturizing and anti-aging properties. METHODS: Lauric acid, oleic acid, and Tween-80 were used as solid lipid, liquid lipid, and surfactant, respectively. Seven formulations (F0-F6) were developed by using different concentration of ingredients. Most optimized formulation (F2) was selected for further study on the basis of characterization. Dialysis tube method was used for release study. F2 was incorporated in gel, and then, in vitro and noninvasive in vivo study regarding skin moisture content by corneometer® and skin mechanical properties by cutometer® for 12 weeks on human volunteers (n = 13) was conducted. RESULTS: Size, polydispersibility index (PDI), zeta potential, and %entrapment efficiency (%EE) of optimized formulation (F2) were found 82 nm, 0.261, -28.6, and 94.88 ± 1.16, respectively. Particles were spherical in shape. The release profile showed initial burst and then sustained release, and release data were best fitted to weibull model. α-tocopherol loaded NLC gel (NLCG) appeared physically stable for 12 weeks at room temperature and showed significant results in terms of skin capacitance and mechanical properties. Rheological assessment showed non-Newtonian behavior. CONCLUSION: Fatty acids based NLC proved to be a promising carrier of photochemically unstable lipophilic vitamin E with enhanced moisturizing and anti-aging properties.
