RESUMEN

The guntea loach, Lepidocephalichthys guntea, is categorically common freshwater fish in Southeast Asia. Current study is the first elucidation on the reproductive feature of L. guntea including population structure, sex ratio (SR), size at first maturity (Lm), breeding period, and condition factor, emphasizing on the effect of environmental factors on reproduction of this fish in the Payra River (Southern Bangladesh) during July 2021 to June 2022. Using various conventional gears, 1128 individuals (534 males and 594 females) have been collected. Total length (TL), standard length (SL), and body weight (BW) of each fish were measured. Ovaries were cautiously dissected, removed, and precisely weighed. TL ranges from 4.6 to 9.7 cm (BW = 0.7-9.27 g) for male and 4.6-10.3 cm (BW = 0.8-10.75 g) for female. Both male (47.34%) and female (52.66%) populations were the leading group in 7.00-7.99 cm TL. Overall SR was not notably altered from anticipated value of 1:1 (male:female = 1:1.11). Nonetheless, monthly variations of SR specified females were considerably outnumbered males in each month excluding March-May. Lm range was 6.4-7.0 cm, so larger than Lm is recommended to exploit. Monthly changes in GSI indicated that the main spawning season was from March to June. The spawning season was substantially correlated with rainfall, nonetheless with temperature. Additionally, relative weight indicated that habitat was imbalanced with higher predators. A fishing ban is recommended during peak spawning to protect L. guntea in the Payra River and its surroundings based on current research.

Biometric indices provide crucial information on fish population growth and aquatic habitat well-being. This study offers the first comprehensive elucidation on biometric indices of Gagata cenia (Hamilton, 1822) specifically; population structure, growth pattern and parameters, form factor (a 3.0 ), conditions factors, prey-predator status, reproduction, optimum catchable length (L opt ), mortality and exploitation rate in the Jamuna River, northern Bangladesh. The aim of this study is to estimate stock status of G. cenia in order to protect the declining wild stock. Total of 725 fishes were randomly collected (ranges between 2.7 and 8.5 cm total length (TL), while 0.30-8.24 g body weight (BW)) occasionally using conventional fishing gears during June 2020 to May 2021. The b value of length-weight relationship (TL vs. BW) was 3.33 which indicated positive allometric growth pattern with r 2 value 0.942. Growth parameters were supposed as asymptotic length (L ∞ ) = 9.09 cm, (K) = 0.94 year-1, growth performance index (Ø') = 1.89 and longevity (t max ) = 3.2 year-1 for this population. The calculated a 3.0 was 0.0172 and Fulton's condition (K F ) is the best suited tool for assessing the well-being of this population. Additionally, relative weight (W R ) specifies an imbalanced territory with regard to the occurrence of predators. The size at sexual maturity (L m ) and L opt for combined sexes of G. cenia were 5.4 cm and 6.0 cm, respectively henceforth fish sizes 6.0-6.5 cm TL are recommended for exploitation. The current study verified fishing mortality was significantly lower than natural mortality and the exploitation rate (E) was 0.32 which indicated the stock was under fishing. Our findings would be very beneficial in planning the sustainable and appropriate management of this fish in Bangladesh and nearby ecosystems.

As a disaster-prone country with unique geographical features, snake biting is a major public health concern in Bangladesh. The primary reasons of mortality from snakebite include late presentation to the hospital, low efficacy of antivenom, and a lack of adequate management facilities. Because snake venom characteristics vary depending on geographical location, antivenom should be manufactured from snakes native to the region in which it would be administered. Bungarus caeruleus is a highly venomous snake contributing to the major snakebite issue in Bangladesh. Therefore, the neutralization efficacy of the antivenom against B. caeruleus venom was evaluated in the current study along with the characterization of venom. For biological characterization of venom, RP-HPLC and SDS-PAGE profiling, hemolytic activity, hemorrhagic activity, phospholipases A2 (PLA2) activity, edema inducing activity and histopathological observations were carried out following standard protocol. LD50 of the venom was calculated along with neutralization potency of Incepta antivenom through probit analysis. Results showed that venom possesses phospholipase A2 activity, hemolytic activity and edema inducing activity while hemorrhagic activity was absent in the skin of envenomed mice. Histopathological alterations including necrosis, congestion and infiltrations were observed in envenomed mice organs after hematoxylin and eosin staining. Neutralization study showed that Incepta polyvalent antivenom could neutralize (potency 0.53 mg/ml) the lethal effect in in vitro study on mice. Further investigation on snakebite epidemiology and clinical observations of the envenomed patients will help in combating the snakebite problem more efficiently.

We evaluate the performance penalty due to discrete Raman amplifier (DRA) in a long haul WDM transmission system. The investigation was primarily performed to study the impact of the accumulated nonlinear noise due to fibre chromatic dispersion and nonlinear coefficient(γ). Nonlinear fibres such as inverse dispersion fibre (IDF), dispersion compensation fibre (DCF) and a development fibre known as the Corning Raman fibre (CRF) with the opposite sign of CD to the other two, were taken as the gain fibre in the DRA stage of the long-haul transmission setup. To study the performance penalty with these Raman gain fibres a 30 GBaud 120 Gb/s DP-QPSK channel @1550 nm was combined with 9 spectrally shaped 50 GHz amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) channels for transmission over a recirculation loop with a per loop length of 63 km single mode fibre (SMF). Our modelling and experimental results show that a fibre with positive dispersion >10ps/nm/km and a nonlinear coefficient of ∼ 4W-1km-1 is a good choice of gain fibre for DRA-assisted coherent transmission system.

In the Indian subcontinent, danta (stems) of underutilized amaranth are used as vegetables in different culinary dishes. At the edible stage of the danta, leaves are discarded as waste in the dustbin because they are overaged. For the first time, we assessed the colorant pigments, bioactive components, nutrients, and antiradical potential (AP) of the leaves of danta to valorize the by-product (leaf) for antioxidant, nutritional, and pharmacological uses. Leaves of danta were analyzed for proximate and element compositions, colorant pigments, bioactive constituents, AP (DPPH), and AP (ABTS+). Danta leaves had satisfactory moisture, protein, carbohydrates, and dietary fiber. The chosen danta leaves contained satisfactory magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, manganese, copper, and zinc; adequate bioactive pigments, such as betacyanins, carotenoids, betalains, ß-carotene, chlorophylls, and betaxanthins; and copious bioactive ascorbic acid, polyphenols, flavonoids, and AP. The correlation coefficient indicated that bioactive phytochemicals and colorant pigments of the selected danta leaves had good AP as assessed via ABTS+ and DPPH assays. The selected danta leaves had good ROS-scavenging potential that could indicate massive possibilities for promoting the health of the nutraceutical- and antioxidant-deficit public. The findings showed that danta leaves are a beautiful by-product for contributing as an alternate origin of antioxidants, nutrients, and bioactive compounds with pharmacological use.

RESUMEN

In this paper, we review different designs of distributed Raman amplifiers which have been proposed to minimize the signal power profile asymmetry in mid-link optical phase conjugation systems. We demonstrate how the symmetrical signal power profiles along the fiber can be achieved using various distributed Raman amplification techniques in the single-span and more realistic multi-span circumstances. In addition, we show the theoretically predicted results of the Kerr nonlinear product reduction with different Raman techniques in mid-link optical phase conjugator systems, and then in-line/long-haul transmission performance using numerical simulations.

Emotion classification in text has growing interest among NLP experts due to the enormous availability of people's emotions and its emergence on various Web 2.0 applications/services. Emotion classification in the Bengali texts is also gradually being considered as an important task for sports, e-commerce, entertainments, and security applications. However, It is a very critical task to develop an automatic emotion classification system for low-resource languages such as, Bengali. Scarcity of resources and deficiency of benchmark corpora make the task more complicated. Thus, the development of a benchmark corpus is the prerequisite to develop an emotion classifier for Bengali texts. This paper describes the development of an emotional corpus (hereafter called 'BEmoC') for classifying six emotions in Bengali texts. The corpus development process consists of four key steps: data crawling, pre-processing, labelling, and verification. A total of 7000 texts are labelled into six basic emotion categories such as anger, fear, surprise, sadness, joy, and disgust, respectively. Dataset evaluation with 0.969 Cohen's κ score indicates the close agreement between the corpus annotators and the expert. The analysis of evaluation also represents that the distribution of emotion words obeys Zipf's law. Moreover, the results of BEmoC analysis shown in terms of coding reliability, emotion density, and most frequent emotion words, respectively.

We compared the transmission performances of 600 Gbit/s PM-64QAM WDM signals over 75.6 km of single-mode fibre (SMF) using EDFA, discrete Raman, hybrid Raman/EDFA, and first-order or second-order (dual-order) distributed Raman amplifiers. Our numerical simulations and experimental results showed that the simple first-order distributed Raman scheme with backward pumping delivered the best transmission performance among all the schemes, notably better than the expected second-order Raman scheme, which gave a flatter signal power variation along the fibre. Using the first-order backward Raman pumping scheme demonstrated a better balance between the ASE noise and fibre nonlinearity and gave an optimal transmission performance over a relatively short distance of 75 km SMF.

Relative intensity noise (RIN) induced penalties were experimentally measured in distributed Raman amplifiers (DRAs) for G.654.E and G.652.D fibres with forward, backward and bidirectional pumping configurations. The measured signal RIN using the G.654.E fibre was ∼3.5 dB and ∼2 dB lower than the G.652.D fibre with forward (FW) pump configuration for PM-QPSK and PM-8QAM signals, with single span transmission showing a Q-factor improvement of ∼3 dB and ∼2.5 dB for G.654.E over G.652.D fibres. The performance penalty in a long haul coherent system was evaluated for 28 GBaud PM-QPSK signals using a recirculation loop for backward and bidirectional distributed Raman amplifiers. Our experimental results demonstrate an additional transmission distance of more than 1000 km for G.654.E over its counterpart G.652.D assuming a HD-FEC limit of 8.5 dB.

Four selected advance lines of salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth were evaluated for proximate, nutraceuticals, pigments, phytochemicals, and antioxidants components antioxidants activity in completely randomized block design (RCBD) design in three replicates. Salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth contained adequate carbohydrates, protein, moisture, and dietary fiber. The remarkable contents of iron, manganese, copper, zinc, sodium, molybdenum, boron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, betacyanins, betalains, betaxanthins, chlorophylls, ascorbic acid, polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant potentiality were found in salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth. The genotypes LS7 and LS9 had abundant proximate, nutraceuticals, pigments, phytochemicals, and antioxidants compared to the genotypes LS3 and LS5. Salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth demonstrated high content of flavonoid compounds including flavonols such as rutin, kaempferol, isoquercetin, myricetin, hyperoside, and quercetin; flavanol, such as catechin; flavone such as apigenin; and flavanone, such as naringenin. For the first time, we identified one flavonol such as myricetin; one flavanol, such as catechin; one flavone such as apigenin; and one flavanone, such as naringenin in salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth. Across six flavonols, rutin and quercetin were identified as the most prominent compounds followed by isoquercetin and myricetin in selected salt-tolerant vegetable amaranths. Across the genotypes, LS7 exhibited the highest flavonols such as rutin, kaempferol, isoquercetin, myricetin, hyperoside, and quercetin as well as the highest flavanols, such as catechin; flavones such as apigenin; and flavanones, such as naringenin. It revealed from the correlation study that antioxidant components of salt-tolerant vegetable amaranth genotypes exhibited good radical quenching capacity of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl equivalent to Trolox. The two genotypes LS7 and LS9 of vegetable amaranth containing excellent sources of proximate, nutraceuticals, pigments, phytochemicals, and antioxidants components could be used as potent antioxidants to attaining nutrients and antioxidant sufficiency in the saline prone area of the globe. We can extract colorful juice from the genotypes LS7 and LS9 as drink purposes for consuming the nutraceuticals and antioxidant deficient community in the saline prone area around the world. However, further detail experimentation is required to confirm the standardization and stabilization of functional components of vegetable amaranth for extraction of juice as drinks.

We experimentally investigate the impact of pump-signal overlap in ultra-wideband (>13THz) Raman amplifiers and measure the transmission penalty on 30GBaud PM-QPSK signals due to adjacent Raman pumps in a 15dB gain, 150nm (∼18.8THz) S+C+L-band discrete Raman amplifier. We present an efficient numerical model to predict the performance penalty induced by crosstalk from Rayleigh backscattered light from backward-propagating Raman pumps showing good agreement with the experimental results. A 4nm guard-band must be retained around an overlapping Raman pump based on typical, commercial semiconductor laser pump diodes to ensure a negligible transmission penalty in S-band.

Plant hormones and the circadian rhythm have been implicated in coordinated control of isoprene emission in plants. To gain insights into the signalling networks, foliar application of plant hormones was conducted in a native emitter, Ficus septica. Spraying of 50 µM jasmonic acid (JA) gradually decreased isoprene emission by 88% compared with initial levels within 5 days, and emission increased after relief from JA application. We further explored the molecular regulatory mechanism of isoprene emission by analysing photosynthetic rate, gene expression of 2-C-methyl-D-erythrytol 4-phosphate (MEP) pathway, hormone signalling and circadian rhythm processes, and metabolite pool sizes of MEP pathway. Results show that isoprene emission strongly correlated with isoprene synthase (IspS) gene expression and IspS protein levels over the period of JA treatment, indicating transcriptional and possible translational modulation of IspS by JA. Application of JA coordinately modulated genes in the auxin, cytokinin (CK), and circadian rhythm signal transduction pathways. Among the transcriptional factors analysed, MYC2 (JA) and LHY (circadian clock) negatively correlated with isoprene emission. Putative cis-elements predicted on IspS promoter (G-box for MYC2 and circadian for LHY) supports our proposal that isoprene emission is regulated by coordinated transcriptional modulation of IspS gene by phytohormone and circadian rhythm signalling.

RESUMEN

We experimentally demonstrate nonlinear noise compensation in an optical phase conjugation assisted 1st order Raman amplified 30x30Gbaud DP-QPSK transmission system with a spectral efficiency of 3.6b/s/Hz. We show that by optimizing the link symmetry, even with only 1st order Raman amplification a single, mid-link, optical phase conjugation compensates for 90% of the signal-signal nonlinear interference resulting in a 2.3dB performance enhancement. We show that increasing the number of optical phase conjugations in the presence of 10% residual nonlinearity results in a reduction in the performance enhancement owing to an enhancement in the nonlinear noise generation efficiency of the system. We achieve a record 72% optical phase conjugation enabled reach enhancement of the 30x30Gbaud DP-QPSK signals.

We present a broadband (>70nm), dual stage, discrete Raman amplifier designed with small and standard core fibres to maximize gain and minimize nonlinearity. The amplifier provides ~19.5dB net gain, 22.5dBm saturation output power and a noise figure of <7.2dB. 120Gb/s DP-QPSK transmission over 38x80km at a pre-FEC BER <3.8x10-3 is demonstrated.

In this work, we will derive, validate, and analyze the theoretical description of nonlinear Kerr effects resulting from various transmission systems that deploy single or multiple optical phase conjugators (OPCs). We will show that the nonlinear Kerr compensation can be achieved, with various efficiencies, in both lumped and distributed Raman transmission systems. The results show that first order distributed Raman systems are superior to the discretely amplified systems in terms of the nonlinear Kerr compensation efficiency that a mid-link OPC can achieve. Also, we will show that the multi-OPC approach will diminish the nonlinearity compensation efficiency in any system as it will act as periodic dispersion compensators.

We experimentally evaluate the influence of RIN transfer from pump to signal on the transmission performance of a 10 × 30 Gbaud DP-QPSK transmission system using a 2nd-order ultra-long Raman fiber laser amplifier, considering the effect of cavity front-end reflectivity and forward pump power ratio. The evolution of the Q-factors with distance up to maximum reach is monitored for a 10 × 30 Gbaud DP-QPSK transmission system with WDM channels between 1542.94 nm to 1550.12 nm. A maximum transmission distance of 6479 km is found for configurations with low forward pump powers corresponding to the optimal balance between RIN and ASE impairments.

Relative intensity noise transfer from the pump to the signal in 2nd-order ultra-long Raman laser amplifiers for telecommunications is characterized numerically and experimentally. Our results showcase the need for careful adjustment of the front FBG reflectivity and the relative contribution of forward pump power, and their impact on performance. Finally, our analysis is verified through a 10 × 30 GBaud DP-QPSK transmission experiment, showing a large Q factor penalty associated with the combination of high forward pumping and high reflectivities.

Nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) is second generation smarter drug carrier system having solid matrix at room temperature. This carrier system is made up of physiological, biodegradable and biocompatible lipid materials and surfactants and is accepted by regulatory authorities for application in different drug delivery systems. The availability of many products in the market in short span of time reveals the success story of this delivery system. Since the introduction of the first product, around 30 NLC preparations are commercially available. NLC exhibit superior advantages over other colloidal carriers viz., nanoemulsions, polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, SLN etc. and thus, have been explored to more extent in pharmaceutical technology. The whole set of unique advantages such as enhanced drug loading capacity, prevention of drug expulsion, leads to more flexibility for modulation of drug release and makes NLC versatile delivery system for various routes of administration. The present review gives insights on the definitions and characterization of NLC as colloidal carriers including the production techniques and suitable formulations. This review paper also highlights the importance of NLC in pharmaceutical applications for the various routes of drug delivery viz., topical, oral, pulmonary, ocular and parenteral administration and its future perspective as a pharmaceutical carrier.
