BACKGROUND: The optimal extent of lymphadenectomy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients remained debatable. AIM: To explore the ideal number of cleared lymph nodes in ESCC patients undergoing upfront surgery. METHODS: In this retrospective, propensity score-matched study, we included 1042 ESCC patients who underwent esophagectomy from November 2008 and October 2019. Patients who underwent neoadjuvant therapy were excluded. We collected patients' clinicopathological features and information regarding lymph nodes, including the total number of resected lymph nodes (NRLN), and pathologically diagnosed positive lymph nodes (RPLN). SPSS and R software were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Among the included 1042 patients, two cohorts: ≤ 21 (n = 664) and > 21 NRLN (n = 378) were identified. The final prognostic model included four variables: T stage, N, venous thrombus, and the number of removed lymph nodes. Among them, NRLN > 21 was determined as an independent prognosticator after surgery for esophageal cancer (hazards regression = 0.66, 95% confidence interval: 0.50-0.87, P = 0.004). A nomogram was created based on the regression coefficients of the variables in the final model. In the training cohort, the predictive model displayed an uncorrected five-year overall survival C-index of 0.659, with a bootstrap-corrected C-index of 0.654. In the subgroup analysis, adjuvant chemotherapy was beneficial in the subgroup with NRLN > 21 and RPLN ≤ 0.16 and NRLN ≤ 21 and RPLN > 0.16. CONCLUSION: NRLN > 21 was an independent prognostic factor after ESCC surgery. The combination of NRLN and RPLN may provide a reference for adjuvant chemotherapy use in potential beneficiaries.

OBJECTIVES: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) remains a significant toxicity for women with breast cancer receiving taxane-based treatment. This analysis has been done within the context of an ongoing 16-week randomized clinical trial consisting of a gait, balance, and strength training exercise intervention for the lower extremities in women with persistent CIPN who received taxane-based chemotherapy for breast cancer. The aim of this analysis is to determine the baseline fall risk among 62 study participants with persistent taxane-induced CIPN assigned to the control group. METHODS: This analysis used the baseline demographic, medical data, nerve conduction, gait, balance, and muscle strength variables of participants prior to randomization to develop an explanatory model of fall risk. The analytic approach utilized generalized linear modeling with Lasso to select baseline risk factors for future falls. RESULTS: Characteristics of the study sample by intervention and control group revealed no significant differences between the groups at baseline. The only baseline risk factors that were significantly associated with future falls were near falls within the last month (ß = 0.90, P = .056) with an odds ratio = 2.46, 95% confidence interval 0.31 to 17, and right ankle plantar flexion torque. (ß = 0. 05, P = .006) with an odds ratio = 1.05, 95% confidence interval 1.01 to 1.10. Demographic and medical data, nerve conduction parameters, gait, balance, or muscle strength variables did not significantly influence fall risk in this population. CONCLUSIONS: The potential for injury and disability from falls is a considerable concern among oncology clinicians and women with breast cancer and persistent CIPN. While falls and fall risk have been previously examined in other studies of breast cancer survivors, the majority of studies fail to capture the occurrence of "near falls" a significant predictor of fall risk. In addition, it is possible that ankle strength may prove to be a potential target for fall prevention in this population. Evidence-based interventions focused on improving neuropathic symptoms, physical function, and quality of life in persons with CIPN are still needed. IMPLICATION FOR NURSING PRACTICE: Oncology nurses and nurse practitioners should query patients who received taxane-based chemotherapy for not only the incidence and frequency of falls but the occurrence of near falls. A prompt referral to physical therapy may be useful in strengthening the lower extremities to improve balance and prevent falls.

Microneedles are a novel drug delivery system that offers advantages such as safety, painlessness, minimally invasive administration, simplicity of use, and controllable drug delivery. As a type of polymer microneedle with a three-dimensional network structure, hydrogel microneedles (HMNs) possess excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability and encapsulate various therapeutic drugs while maintaining drug activity, thus attracting significant attention. Recently, they have been widely employed to promote wound healing and have demonstrated favorable therapeutic effects. Although there are reviews about HMNs, few of them focus on wound management. Herein, we present a comprehensive overview of the design and preparation methods of HMNs, with a particular emphasis on their application status in wound healing, including acute wound healing, infected wound healing, diabetic wound healing, and scarless wound healing. Finally, we examine the advantages and limitations of HMNs in wound management and provide suggestions for future research directions.

An increase in fibrous connective tissue and a decrease in parenchymal cells in organ tissues are the primary pathological alterations linked to organ fibrosis. If fibrosis is not treated, organ structure is destroyed, function can decline, or even fail, posing a serious risk to human life and health. Numerous organs develop fibrosis, and organ fibroproliferative illnesses account for almost 45% of patient deaths from various diseases in the industrialized world, as well as a major cause of disability and mortality in many other diseases. Recently, it has become evident that histone modification is an important way to regulate gene expression in organ fibrosis. Histone modifications alter the structure of chromatin, thereby affecting gene accessibility. Histone acetylation modifications relax chromatin, making it easier for gene transcription factors to access DNA, thereby promoting gene transcription. In addition, histone modifications recruit other proteins to interact with chromatin to form complexes that further regulate gene expression. Histone methylation modifications recruit methylation-reading proteins that recognize methylation marks and alter gene expression status. It not only affects the normal physiological function of cells, but also plays an important role in organ fibrosis. This article reviews the important role played by histone modifications in organ fibrosis and potential therapeutic approaches.

Inorganic metal sulfides have received extensive investigation as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, applications of crystalline organic hybrid metal sulfides as anode materials in LIBs are quite rare. In addition, combining the nanoparticles of crystalline organic hybrid metal sulfides with conductive materials is expected to enhance the electrochemical lithium storage performance. Nevertheless, due to the difficulty of harvesting the nanoparticles of crystalline organic hybrid metal sulfides, this approach has never been tried to date. Herein, nanoparticles of a crystalline organic hybrid cadmium antimony sulfide (1,4-DABH2)Cd2Sb2S6 (DCAS) were prepared by a top-down method, including the procedures of solvothermal synthesis, ball milling, and ultrasonic pulverization. Thereafter, the nanoparticles of DCAS with sizes of ∼500 nm were intercalated into graphene oxide nanosheets through a freeze-drying treatment and a DCAS@GO composite was obtained. Compared with the reported Sb2S3- and CdS-based composites, the DCAS@GO composite exhibited superior electrochemical Li+ ion storage performance, including a high capacity of 1075.6 mAh g-1 at 100 mA g-1 and exceptional rate tolerances (646.8 mAh g-1 at 5000 mA g-1). In addition, DCAS@GO can provide a high capacity of 705.6 mAh g-1 after 500 cycles at 1000 mA g-1. Our research offers a viable approach for preparing the nanoparticles of crystalline organic hybrid metal sulfides and proves that intercalating organic hybrid metal sulfide nanoparticles into GO nanosheets can efficiently boost the electrochemical Li+ ion storage performance.

Inositol hexaphosphate (InsP6) is the major storage form of phosphorus in seeds. Reducing seed InsP6 content is a breeding objective in agriculture, as InsP6 negatively impacts animal nutrition and the environment. Nevertheless, how InsP6 accumulation is regulated remains largely unknown. Here, we identify a clade of receptor-like cytoplasmic kinases (RLCKs), named Inositol Polyphosphate-related Cytoplasmic Kinases 1-6 (IPCK1-IPCK6), deeply involved in InsP6 accumulation. The InsP6 concentration is dramatically reduced in seeds of ipck quadruple (T-4m/C-4m) and quintuple (C-5m) mutants, accompanied with the obviously increase of phosphate (Pi) concentration. The plasma membrane-localized IPCKs recruit IPK1 involved in InsP6 synthesis, and facilitate its binding and activity via phosphorylation of GRF 14-3-3 proteins. IPCKs also recruit IPK2s and PI-PLCs required for InsP4/InsP5 and InsP3 biosynthesis respectively, to form a potential IPCK-GRF-PLC-IPK2-IPK1 complex. Our findings therefore uncover a regulatory mechanism of InsP6 accumulation governed by IPCKs, shedding light on the mechanisms of InsP biosynthesis in eukaryotes.

Acute asthma exacerbation refers to the progressive deterioration of asthma symptoms that is always triggered by virus infection represented by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). After RSV infection, exaggerated Th2-mediated pulmonary inflammation is the critical pathological response of asthmatic patients with acute exacerbation. Significantly, airway epithelial cells, being the primary targets of RSV infection, play a crucial role in controlling the pulmonary inflammatory response by releasing airway epithelial cell-derived exosomes (AEC-Exos), which potentially influence the development of asthma. However, the specific role of AEC-Exos in acute asthma exacerbation after RSV infection remains obscure. The purpose of this study was to determine the distinct function of AEC-Exos in exacerbating acute asthma following RSV infection. Blockade of exosomes by GW reduce the enhanced pulmonary inflammation significantly. Specifically, the enhanced Th2 inflammation was induced by AEC-Exos thorough transportation of hsa-miR-155-5p-Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) pathway during acute asthma exacerbation. Targeted inhibition of hsa-miR-155-5p blocks the exaggerated Th2 inflammation effectively in mice with acute asthma exacerbation. In summary, our study showed that during acute asthma exacerbation after RSV infection, AEC-Exos promote the enhanced Th2 inflammation through transportation of increased hsa-miR-155-5p, which was mediated partly through SIRT1-mediated pathway. hsa-miR-155-5p is a potential biomarker for early prediction of acute asthma exacerbation.

Magterpenes A-C (1-3), three unprecedented meroterpenoids featuring a unique 6/6/6/6/6 polycyclic skeleton, were isolated from the ethanol extract of Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. The compounds were obtained as racemic mixtures that were completely resolved through chiral columns. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analyses of one-dimensional (1D) and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, chemical calculations of 1H/13C NMR, and electronic circular dichroism calculations. The compounds were constructed via two Diels-Alder reactions in the proposed biosynthetic pathway. All isolates were evaluated for their nephroprotective and hepatoprotective activities. The results demonstrated that (+)-1 and (-)-1 possessed promising nephroprotective activities in a dose-dependent manner, while (-)-2 and (+)-3 exhibited moderate hepatoprotective activities.

BACKGROUND: Evaluation publications typically summarize the results of studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of an intervention, but little is shared concerning any changes implemented during the study. We present a process evaluation protocol of a home-based gait, balance, and resistance exercise intervention to ameliorate persistent taxane-induced neuropathy study according to 7 key elements of process evaluation. METHODS: The process evaluation is conducted parallel to the longitudinal, randomized control clinical trial examining the effects of the home-based gait, balance, and resistance exercise program for women with persistent peripheral neuropathy following treatment with taxanes for breast cancer (IRB approval: Pro00040035). The flowcharts clarify how the intervention should be implemented in comparable settings, fidelity procedures help to ensure the participants are comfortable and identify their individual needs, and the process evaluation allows for the individual attention tailoring and focus of the research to avoid protocol deviation. CONCLUSIONS: The publication of the evaluation protocol plan adds transparency to the findings of clinical trials and favors process replication in future studies. The process evaluation enables the team to systematically register information and procedures applied during recruitment and factors that impact the implementation of the intervention, thereby allowing proactive approaches to prevent deviations from the protocol. When tracking an intervention continuously, positive or negative intervention effects are revealed early on in the study, giving valuable insight into inconsistent results. Furthermore, a process evaluation adds a participant-centered element to the research protocols, which allows a patient-centered approach to be applied to data collection. Introduction: The incidence and mortality of female breast cancer remain high, and the immune microenvironment of breast cancer has undergone significant alterations. However, the impact of blood immune cell levels on the risk of breast cancer is not fully understood. Therefor this study aims to investigate the causal relationship between blood immune cell levels and the risk of breast cancer. Methods: A Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was employed to assess the causal relationship between immune cells and the risk of breast cancer, as along with their potential mediating factors. Genetic statistics of metabolites breast cancer and immune cells were obtained from the GWAS Catalog, while the genome-wide association study (GWAS) statistics of breast cancer were extracted from the UK biobank. Two-sample MR analysis were performed using inverse-variance weighted (IVW) to ascertain the causal association between immune cells and the risk of breast cancer. Furthermore, 1,400 metabolites were analyzed for their mediating role between immune cells and the risk of breast cancer. Results: MR analysis through IVW method revealed that genetically predicted CD24+ CD27+ B cells were associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer (OR = 0.9978, 95% CI: 0.996-0.999, p = 0.001), while IgD- CD38+ B cells were linked to an increased risk of breast cancer (OR = 1.002, 95% CI: 1.001-1.004, p = 0.005). Additional CD14+ CD16+ monocytes were associated with an increased risk of breast cancer (OR = 1.000, 95% CI: 1.000-1.001, p = 0.005). Mediation analysis revealed a positive causal relationship between IgD- CD38+ B cells and Glycerate levels, with the latter also exhibiting a positive causal relationship with the risk of breast cancer (p < 0.05). Conversely, IgD- CD38+ B cells displayed a negative causal relationship with Succinoyltaurine levels, and the latter also demonstrated a negative causal relationship with the risk of breast cancer (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This MR study provides novel genetic evidence supporting a causal relationship between IgD- CD38+ B cells and the risk of BC. Moreover, it is identified that IgD- CD38+ B cells contribute to an increased risk of BC through both positive and negative mediation effects involving Glycerate and Succinoyltaurine.

Background: Unplanned readmission to intensive care units (UR-ICU) in trauma is associated with increased hospital length of stay and significant morbidity and mortality. We identify independent predictors of UR-ICU and construct a nomogram to estimate readmission probability. Materials and Methods: We performed an IRB-approved retrospective case-control study at a Level I trauma center between January 2019 and December 2021. Patients with UR-ICU (n = 175) were matched with patients who were not readmitted (NR-ICU) (n = 175). Univariate and multivariable binary linear regressionanalyses were performed (SPSS Version 28, IBM Corp), and a nomogram was created (Stata 18.0, StataCorp LLC). Results: Demographics, comorbidities, and injury- and hospital course-related factors were examined as potential prognostic indicators of UR-ICU. The mortality rate of UR-ICU was 22.29% vs 6.29% for NR-ICU (P < .001). Binary linear regression identified seven independent predictors that contributed to UR-ICU: shock (P < .001) or intracranial surgery (P = .015) during ICU admission, low hematocrit (P = .001) or sedation administration in the 24 hours before ICU discharge (P < .001), active infection treatment (P = .192) or leukocytosis on ICU discharge (P = .01), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (P = .002). A nomogram was generated to estimate the probability of UR-ICU and guide decisions on ICU discharge appropriateness. Discussion: In trauma, UR-ICU is often accompanied by poor outcomes and death. Shock, intracranial surgery, anemia, sedative administration, ongoing infection treatment, leukocytosis, and COPD are significant risk factors for UR-ICU. A predictive nomogram may help better assess readiness for ICU discharge.

AIM: Biotechnical processes in Escherichia coli often operate with artificial plasmids. However, these bioprocesses frequently encounter plasmid loss. To ensure stable expression of heterologous genes in E. coli BL21(DE3), a novel plasmid addiction system (PAS) was developed. METHODS AND RESULTS: This PAS employed an essential gene grpE encoding a cochaperone in the DnaK-DnaJ-GrpE chaperone system as the selection marker, which represented a chromosomal ΔgrpE mutant harboring episomal expression plasmids that carry supplementary grpE alleles to restore the deficiency. To demonstrate the feasibility of this system, it was implemented in phloroglucinol (PG) biosynthesis, manifesting improved host tolerance to PG and increased PG production. Specifically, PG titer significantly improved from 0.78 ± 0.02 to 1.34 ± 0.04 g l-1, representing a 71.8% increase in shake-flask fermentation. In fed-batch fermentation, the titer increased from 3.71 ± 0.11 to 4.54 ± 0.10 g l-1, showing a 22.4% increase. RNA sequencing and transcriptome analysis revealed that the improvements were attributed to grpE overexpression and upregulation of various protective chaperones and the biotin acetyl-CoA carboxylase ligase coding gene birA. CONCLUSION: This novel PAS could be regarded as a typical example of nonanabolite- and nonmetabolite-related PAS. It effectively promoted plasmid maintenance in the host, improved tolerance to PG, and increased the titer of this compound.

Avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) still causes serious economic losses in the poultry industry. Currently, there are multiple prevalent genotypes and serotypes of IBVs. It is imperative to develop a new diagnosis method that is fast, sensitive, specific, simple, and broad-spectrum. A monoclonal hybridoma cell, N2D5, against the IBV N protein was obtained after fusion of myeloma SP2/0 cells with spleen cells isolated from the immunized Balb/c mice. The N2D5 monoclonal antibody (mAb) and the previously prepared mouse polyclonal antibody against the IBV N protein were used to target IBV as a colloidal gold-mAb conjugate and a captured antibody, respectively, in order to develop an immunochromatographic strip. The optimal pH and minimum antibody concentration in the reaction system for colloidal gold-mAb N2D5 conjugation were pH 6.5 and 30 µg/mL, respectively. Common avian pathogens were tested to evaluate the specificity of the strip and no cross-reaction was observed. The sensitivity of the strip for detecting IBV was 10-1.4522 EID50/mL. The strip showed a broad-spectrum cross-reactive capacity for detecting IBV antigens, including multiple IBV genotypes in China and all of the seven serotypes of IBV that are currently prevalent in southern China. Additionally, the result can be observed within 2 min without any equipment. The throat and cloacal swab samples of chickens that were artificially infected with three IBV strains were tested using the developed strip and the qPCR method; the strip test demonstrated a high consistency in detecting IBV via qPCR gene detection. In conclusion, the immunochromatographic strip that was established is rapid, sensitive, specific, simple, practical, and broad-spectrum; additionally, it has the potential to serve as an on-site rapid detection method of IBV and can facilitate the surveillance and control of the disease, especially in resource-limited areas.

This study aimed to compare the impact of the partially flipped physiology classroom (PFC) and the traditional lecture-based classroom (TLC) on students' learning approaches. The study was conducted over 5 mo at Xiangya School of Medicine from February to July 2022 and comprised 71 students majoring in clinical medicine. The experimental group (n = 32) received PFC teaching, whereas the control group (n = 39) received TLC. The Revised Two-Factor Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F) was used to assess the impact of different teaching methods on students' learning approaches. After the PFC, students got significantly higher scores on deep learning approach (Z = -3.133, P < 0.05). Conversely, after the TLC students showed significantly higher scores on surface learning approach (Z = -2.259, P < 0.05). After the course, students in the PFC group scored significantly higher in deep learning strategy than those in the TLC group (Z = -2.196, P < 0.05). The PFC model had a positive impact on deep learning motive and strategy, leading to an improvement in the deep approach, which is beneficial for the long-term development of students. In contrast, the TLC model only improved the surface learning approach. The study implies that educators should consider implementing PFC to enhance students' learning approaches.NEW & NOTEWORTHY In this article, we compare the impact of the partially flipped classroom (PFC) and the traditional lecture classroom (TLC) in a physiology course on medical students' learning approaches. We found that the PFC benefited students by significantly enhancing their deep learning motive, strategy, and approach, which was good for them. However, the TLC model only improved the surface learning motive and approach.

Soil contamination with arsenic (As) can cause phytotoxicity and reduce crop yield. The mechanisms of As toxicity and tolerance are not fully understood. In this study, we used a forward genetics approach to isolate a rice mutant, ahs1, that exhibits hypersensitivity to both arsenate and arsenite. Through genomic resequencing and complementation tests, we identified OsLPD1 as the causal gene, which encodes a putative lipoamide dehydrogenase. OsLPD1 was expressed in the outer cell layer of roots, root meristem cells, and in the mesophyll and vascular tissues of leaves. Subcellular localization and immunoblot analysis demonstrated that OsLPD1 is localized in the stroma of plastids. In vitro assays showed that OsLPD1 exhibited lipoamide dehydrogenase (LPD) activity, which was strongly inhibited by arsenite, but not by arsenate. The ahs1 and OsLPD1 knockout mutants exhibited significantly reduced NADH/NAD+ and GSH/GSSG ratios, along with increased levels of reactive oxygen species and greater oxidative stress in the roots compared with wild-type (WT) plants under As treatment. Additionally, loss-of-function of OsLPD1 also resulted in decreased fatty acid concentrations in rice grain. Taken together, our finding reveals that OsLPD1 plays an important role for maintaining redox homeostasis, conferring tolerance to arsenic stress, and regulating fatty acid biosynthesis in rice.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as sudden loss of renal function characterized by increased serum creatinine levels and reduced urinary output with a duration of 7 days. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent regulated necrotic pathway, has been implicated in the progression of AKI, while ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), a selective inhibitor of ferroptosis, inhibited renal damage, oxidative stress and tubular cell death in AKI mouse models. However, the clinical translation of Fer-1 is limited due to its lack of efficacy and metabolic instability. In this study we designed and synthesized four Fer-1 analogs (Cpd-A1, Cpd-B1, Cpd-B2, Cpd-B3) with superior plasma stability, and evaluated their therapeutic potential in the treatment of AKI. Compared with Fer-1, all the four analogs displayed a higher distribution in mouse renal tissue in a pharmacokinetic assay and a more effective ferroptosis inhibition in erastin-treated mouse tubular epithelial cells (mTECs) with Cpd-A1 (N-methyl-substituted-tetrazole-Fer-1 analog) being the most efficacious one. In hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)- or LPS-treated mTECs, treatment with Cpd-A1 (0.25 µM) effectively attenuated cell damage, reduced inflammatory responses, and inhibited ferroptosis. In ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)- or cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced AKI mouse models, pre-injection of Cpd-A1 (1.25, 2.5, 5 mg·kg-1·d-1, i.p.) dose-dependently improved kidney function, mitigated renal tubular injury, and abrogated inflammation. We conclude that Cpd-A1 may serve as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of AKI.

The purpose of this study was to explore Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as a moderator between sleep duration/irregularity and overweight/obesity in U.S. adolescents. Using the National Survey of Children's Health 2017-2018 cross-sectional dataset, we included adolescents with available sleep and Body Mass Index (BMI) data. In a sample of 24,100 adolescents (mean age = 13.56 years, 49.35% female; 51% White), parents reported adolescent's sleep duration/irregularity, and number of ACEs. Logistic regression estimated the interaction between sleep duration/irregularity and the number of ACEs on overweight/obesity risk (BMI ≥ 85th percentile-for-age) using a stepwise approach and accounting for complex survey design. In the 24,100 adolescents, 33% were overweight/obese, 50% had ≥ 1 ACE, 37% slept < 8-10 h/night, and 14% had irregular sleep. Accounting for covariates and ACEs, every hour increase in sleep duration was associated with 6% decrease in overweight/obesity odds. There was a significant interaction between sleep duration and ACEs; the association between increasing sleep duration and decreasing odds of overweight/obesity was significant only in adolescents without ACEs (OR = 0.87, 95% CI [0.80, 0.95], p < 0.001). Increasing sleep duration is a recognized intervention target to decrease obesity risk, yet in adolescents experiencing ≥ 1 ACE, this protective role may be dampened. Future work may explore mechanisms for overweight/obesity development to inform interventions for adolescents facing adversity.

BACKGROUND: Analyzing trajectories of weight loss may address how particular groups of patients respond to metabolic and bariatric surgery. OBJECTIVES: The Bariatric Experience Long Term (BELONG) study was designed to use a theoretical model to examine determinants of weight loss and recurrence. SETTING: Large integrated health system in Southern California with 11 surgical practices and 23 surgeons. METHODS: A total of n = 1338 patients who had metabolic and bariatric surgery were surveyed before surgery to measure factors related to median percent total weight loss (%TWL) over 5 years. Longitudinal weight data were available for n = 1024 (76.5% of the sample). Data were analyzed using latent growth mixture models (GMM) to estimate trajectories of weight change separately for gastric sleeve and bypass operations. These trajectories were then described using relevant variables from the baseline survey. RESULTS: For both gastric sleeve (n = 733) and bypass (n = 291) operations, 3 latent trajectories of median %TWL were found corresponding to most, moderate, and least %TWL. Sleeve trajectories were distinguished by body mass index at surgery and geocoded environmental factors. Bypass trajectories varied by self-reported and geocoded environmental factors, comorbidity burden, race, experiential avoidance, and weight control strategies. CONCLUSIONS: Future research should examine the role of the built and perceived environment in surgical weight loss. Bariatric practices should focus less on the presurgical period for predictors of long-term weight loss and begin efforts to monitor real-time patient-reported outcomes to help tailor intervention strategies for patients who either do not lose an expected amount of weight or who begin to experience weight recurrence.
