RESUMEN

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant challenge to global health, and the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in food poses a potential threat to public health. Traditional Chinese fermented meat products (FMPs) are highly favored because of their unique flavors and cultural value. However, microbial safety and the potential distribution and composition of AMR in these products remain unclear. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of bacterial composition and antibiotic-resistant populations in 216 samples of traditional fermented meat products from different regions of China was conducted using a metagenomic approach. Staphylococcus was the most abundant genus in the samples, accounting for an average abundance of 29.9 %, followed by Tetragenococcus (17.1 %), and Latilactobacillus (3.6 %). A core resistome of FMP samples was constructed for the first time using co-occurrence network analysis, which revealed the distribution and interrelationships of ARGs and bio/metal-resistant genes (BMRGs). Random forest analysis identified the lincosamide nucleotidyltransferase lnuA and the multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) transporter abeM as potential indicators for assessing the overall abundance of the core resistome. Additionally, Staphylococcus, Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas were identified as hosts constituting the core resistome. Despite their low abundance, the latter two still serve as major reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes. Notably, Lactococcus cremoris was identified as the key host for tetracycline resistance genes in the samples, highlighting the need for enhanced resistance monitoring in lactic acid bacteria. Based on our findings, in the microbial safety assessment of fermented meat products, beyond common foodborne pathogens, attention should be focused on detecting and controlling coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas, and addressing bacterial resistance. The quantitative detection of lnuA and abeM could provide a convenient and rapid method for assessing the overall abundance of the core resistome. Our findings have important implications for the control of bacterial resistance and prevention of pathogenic bacteria in fermented meat products.

ST7 Staphylococcus aureus is highly prevalent in humans, pigs, as well as food in China; however, staphylococcal food poisoning (SFP) caused by this ST type has rarely been reported. On May 13, 2017, an SFP outbreak caused by ST7 S. aureus strains occurred in two campuses of a kindergarten in Hainan Province, China. We investigated the genomic characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of ST7 SFP strains combined with the 91 ST7 food-borne strains from 12 provinces in China by performing whole-genome sequencing (WGS). There was clear phylogenetic clustering of seven SFP isolates. Six antibiotic genes including blaZ, ANT (4')-Ib, tetK, lnuA, norA, and lmrS were present in all SFP strains and also showed a higher prevalence rate in 91 food-borne strains. A multiple resistance plasmid pDC53285 was present in SFP strain DC53285. Among 27 enterotoxin genes, only sea and selx were found in all SFP strains. A ФSa3int prophage containing type A immune evasion cluster (sea, scn, sak, and chp) was identified in SFP strain. In conclusion, we concluded that this SFP event was caused by the contamination of cakes with ST7 S. aureus. This study indicated the potential risk of new emergencing ST7 clone for SFP.

Electroactive polymer (EAP) is a kind of intelligent material that, driven by external electric field, could produce changes in shape or volume. As an important class of EAP materials, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) based relaxor ferroelectric polymers show remarkable potential for applications in sensors, actuator, and artificial muscles because of their excellent electrostrictive properties. However, the strain of PVDF-based relaxor ferroelectrics relies strongly on a high electric field, which seriously damages their reliability and limits their practical applications as wearable devices. To explore more suitable materials for actuator applications, in this present work, we report the influences of a double bond (DB) on the electroactive properties of P(VDF-TrFE) (TrFE: trifluoroethylene). The crystalline phase of P(VDF-TrFE) is partially destroyed after the DB is introduced, and the molecular chain flexibility of the product P(VDF-TrFE-DB) can be greatly improved. Therefore, P(VDF-TrFE-DB) has a larger electric displacement while having a lower dipole orientation electric field compared with that of P(VDF-TrFE). The result confirms that the DB could tune the ferroelectric properties and effectively reduce the driving electric field of the PVDF-based relaxor ferroelectric polymers. This work offers a strategy for the preparation of novel EAPs with low driving electric fields.

As the core unit of energy storage equipment, high voltage pulse capacitor plays an indispensable role in the field of electric power system and electromagnetic energy related equipment. The mostly utilized polymer materials are metallized polymer thin films, which are represented by biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, possessing the advantages including low cost, high breakdown strength, excellent processing ability, and self-healing performance. However, the low dielectric constant (ε r < 3) of traditional BOPP films makes it impossible to meet the demand for increased high energy density. Controlled/living radical polymerization (CRP) and related techniques have become a powerful approach to tailor the chemical and physical properties of materials and have given rise to great advances in tuning the properties of polymer dielectrics. Although organic-inorganic composite dielectrics have received much attention in previous studies, all-organic polymer dielectrics have been proven to be the most promising choice because of its light weight and easy large-scale continuous processing. In this short review, we begin with some basic theory of polymer dielectrics and some theoretical considerations for the rational design of dielectric polymers with high performance. In the guidance of these theoretical considerations, we review recent progress toward all-organic polymer dielectrics based on two major approaches, one is to control the polymer chain structure, containing microscopic main-chain and side-chain structures, by the method of CRP and the other is macroscopic structure design of all-organic polymer dielectric films. And various chemistry and compositions are discussed within each approach.

This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and virulence gene profiles of Bacillus cereus in different brands of infant formula in Beijing supermarkets. Eighty-eight Bacillus cereus isolates were recovered in sixty-eight infant formulas of five domestic brands and fourteen imported brands. The prevalence rate in domestic and imported samples were 70.6% and 52.9%, respectively. Lower mean prevalence level was found in domestic samples (1.17 MPN/g) compared with the imported samples (3.52 MPN/g). Twenty-four virulence gene profiles were found, and most strains carried at least one virulence gene. The prevalence of nheA, nheB, nheC, cytK, bceT, and entFM in domestic and imported brand samples was similar. The occurrence of enterotoxin genes hblA, hblC, and hblD in domestic samples were 22.2%, 27.8%, and 22.2%, respectively, which was significantly higher than imported samples. Antimicrobial drugs-susceptibility analysis showed that all isolates were susceptible to gentamincin, amikacin, and ciprofloxacin; 38%, 7%, and 2.3% were resistant to rifampin, tetracycline, and chloramphenicol, respectively; and only one isolate was resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Moreover, the cell numbers of Bacillus cereus in prepared infant formula increased rapidly at room temperature. Thus, monitoring guidelines are needed for accepted levels of Bacillus cereus in infant formula.
