STUDY OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the characteristics of patients with an initial diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in an emergency department (ED) and their outcomes. METHODS: A total of 147 SLE patients (119 females and 28 males, mean age 26 ± 19 years) who visited the ED of the Peking University People's Hospital between January 2017 and June 2022 were enrolled in the study. Data on demographic information, clinical characteristics, comorbidities, therapy, and outcomes were collected. RESULTS: Most patients visit ED because of symptoms related to SLE (74.8%, 110/147). The remaining 37 patients (25.2%) visited ED due to infection (43.2%, 16/37), gastrointestinal bleeding (10.8%, 4/37), coronary heart or cerebrovascular disease (18.9%, 7/37), macrophage activation syndrome or thrombotic microangiopathy (18.9%, 7/37), leukemia (5.4%, 2/37), and hepatic encephalopathy (2.7%, 1/37). Of the patients, 54.4% (80/147) were first diagnosed with SLE at the time of their ED visit. Thrombocytopenia events occurred significantly more frequently in this group of patients (OR 3.664, 95% CI 1.586-8.464, p = 0.002). Pulse steroid therapy was administered to 32.5% (26/80) of the patients with an initial diagnosis of SLE, and 26.3% (21/80) of these patients also received IVIG therapy during their ED visit. SLEDAI scores were significantly decreased after 6 months of therapy. The rate of mortality was 6.8% (10/147) in the 6-month follow-up period, and all the ten deaths happened in patients with disease-established SLE. The main causes of death were infections (two patients) and SLE flare (four patients). CONCLUSION: Understanding disease patterns can contribute to physicians providing accurate diagnosis and efficient care for SLE patients in ED. Key Points • Systemic lupus erythematosus, a complex autoimmune disorder, can have either a chronic or a relapsing and remitting disease course. The disease can involve acute events or severe comorbidities, and frequent visits to the emergency department (ED) are inevitable. • It is essential to better understand which comorbidities can lead to emergency department visits. Accurate clinical diagnosis and appropriate interventions from ED physicians can have a strong impact on the prognosis of the disease. • Hematologic compromise attributed to SLE flare is the most common reason for ED visits. Owing to aggressive treatments, the clinical outcomes in patients with initial diagnosis of SLE have improved notably. • Our study highlights that early recognition and appropriate management of SLE-related conditions and other comorbidity in ED are crucial.

Oral administration of chitooligosaccharides (COS) has been reported to alleviate colitis in mice. However, the mechanism of action of COS with specific polymerization degree on gut inflammation and metabolism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of chitobiose (COS2), chitotetraose (COS4), and chitohexaose (COS6) on colitis, and to elucidate their underlying mechanisms. COS2, COS4, and COS6 were able to significantly alleviate colonic injury and inflammation levels. COS6 has the best anti-inflammatory effect. Furthermore, COS6 could down-regulate the level of indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase1 (IDO1) and restore the levels of indole, indoleacetic-3-acid (IAA), and indole-3-carbaldehyde (I3A) in the cecum of chronic colitis mice (p < 0.05), thereby regulating tryptophan metabolism. In the aromatic hydrocarbon receptor-IL-22 (AHR-IL-22) pathway, although there were differences between chronic colitis and acute colitis mice, COS intervention could restore the AHR-IL-22 pathway to normal, promote the expression of MUC2, and repair the intestinal mucosal barrier. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that COS had a good inhibitory effect on IDO1 under inflammation and the changes of AHR and IL-22 levels at different stages of disease development. This provides new insights into the potential use of COS as a functional food for improving intestinal inflammation and metabolism.

Recent evidence emphasized the role of the microbiota in the etiopathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Indeed, it has been demonstrated that urinary tract infections are implicated in RA pathogenesis. However, a definitive association between the urinary tract microbiota and RA remains to be investigated. Urine samples from 39 patients affected by RA, including treatment-naive patients, and 37 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were collected. In RA patients, the urinary microbiota showed an increase in microbial richness and a decrease in microbial dissimilarity, especially in treatment-naive patients. A total of 48 altered genera with different absolute quantities were detected in patients with RA. The 37 enriched genera included Proteus, Faecalibacterium, and Bacteroides, while the 11 deficient genera included Gardnerella, Ruminococcus, Megasphaera, and Ureaplasma. Notably, the more abundant genera in RA patients were correlated with the disease activity score of 28 joints-erythrocyte sedimentation rates (DAS28-ESR) and an increase in plasma B cells. Furthermore, the altered urinary metabolites, such as proline, citric acid, and oxalic acid, were positively associated with RA patients, and they were closely correlated with urinary microbiota. These findings suggested a strong association between the altered urinary microbiota and metabolites with disease severity and dysregulated immune responses in RA patients. IMPORTANCE We revealed that the profile of the urinary tract microbiota in RA featured with increased microbial richness and shifted taxa, associated with immunological and metabolic changes of the disease, underlining the interplay between urinary microbiota and host autoimmunity.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus accompanied by autoimmune liver cirrhosis (SLE-ALC) patients and differences from the non-cirrhosis group. METHODS: Forty-three patients with SLE-ALC were enrolled in this study from 2653 patients with SLE in Peking University People's Hospital. A descriptive case-control study was performed between SLE-ALC patients and the entry time-matched non-cirrhosis group. RESULTS: Among the 43 SLE-ALC patients, 41 (95.3%) were female. Eight patients (18.6%) were first found to have cirrhosis and then diagnosed with SLE. Eighteen patients (41.9%) had jaundice and 27 (62.8%) had esophageal and gastric varices. The age of SLE-ALC patients was 51.1 ± 17.2 years, which was significantly older than the non-cirrhosis group (P < 0.001). Lung involvement was more common as initial manifestations in SLE-ALC patients during the SLE course (P=0.027). Compared with the non-cirrhosis group, SLE-ALC patients had worse liver function. A significantly higher rate of hematological system involvement (anemia, leucopenia, and thrombocytopenia) and a higher level of immunoglobulins were observed in SLE-ALC patients (P<0.05). Moreover, SLE-ALC patients displayed a lower positive rate of anti-double-stranded DNA and anti-ribosomal P protein (P<0.05). The most common radiologic manifestations are ascitic fluid (72.1%) and splenomegaly (71.4%) in SLE-ALC patients. Six SLE-ALC patients underwent liver biopsy, and interface hepatitis was present in all patients. CONCLUSIONS: Cirrhosis is rare in SLE patients but is manifested as a unique pattern of clinical features characterized by late-onset age, lung involvement, high immunoglobulins, and impaired liver function.

Background: Bleeding complications are recognized as relatively infrequent manifestations of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), and the safety of antithrombotic therapy during pregnancy is of concern. This study aims to assess the risk factors and possible associations between bleeding complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) in patients with APS. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the Peking University People's Hospital. The clinical and immunologic features, bleeding complications, treatment, and pregnancy outcomes of patients with APS were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to assess the associations between APOs and bleeding complications. Results: A total of 176 participants with obstetric APS were included in the analysis. There were 66 (37.50%) patients with APS with hemorrhage complications and 86 (48.86%) patients with APS with APOs. Mucocutaneous hemorrhage was associated with APOs including fetal death after 12 weeks [odds ratio (OR) = 10.73, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.61-71.74, p = 0.014], preterm delivery prior to 34 weeks (OR = 8.30, 95% CI: 2.31-29.84, p = 0.001), and small for gestational age (OR = 4.17, 95% CI: 1.22-14.21, p = 0.023) in univariate logistic regression analyses. It also independently associated with preterm delivery prior to 34 weeks (OR = 40.29, 95% CI: 1.45-1121.32, p = 0.030) in multivariate logistic regression analyses. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis evaluating the accuracy of these factors for preterm delivery prior to 34 weeks showed that the area under ROC curve was 0.871. Conclusion: The study shows that mucocutaneous hemorrhage may be an indication of the occurrence of APOs in obstetric patients with APS.

Background: Thrombocytopenia is a common manifestation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), and is a main concern for bleeding on the standard treatment of low dose aspirin (LDA) and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in obstetric APS (OAPS). Objective: This study assesses the possible relationship between thrombocytopenia during the first trimester and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) in OAPS patients. Methods: A case-control study was conducted at Peking University People's Hospital, Beijing, China. The clinical, immunologic, and pregnancy outcomes of the OAPS patients were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to assess the relationship between APOs and thrombocytopenia in the first trimester. Results: A total of 115 participants were included in the analysis. There were no difference on antepartum and postpartum hemorrhage between the two groups. The gestational age in the thrombocytopenia group was less than that in the control group (34.12 ± 8.44 vs. 37.44 ± 3.81 weeks, p = 0.002). Hypocomplementemia, double aPL positive, and high titers of anti-ß2 glycoprotein I were more frequent in APS patients with thrombocytopenia (p < 0.05). Compared to the control group, thrombocytopenia in the first trimester was correlated with SGA (12.12% vs. 31.25%, p = 0.043), premature birth <37 weeks (16.16% vs 43.75%, p = 0.010) and intrauterine fetal death (2.02% vs 12.50%, p = 0.033). Thrombocytopenia in first-trimester independently increased the risk of preterm birth <37 weeks (OR = 5.40, 95% CI: 1.35-21.53, p = 0.02) after adjusting for demographic and laboratory factors. After adding medication adjustments, these factors above become insignificant (p > 0.05). Of note, the number of platelets increased after delivery in 14 thrombocytopenia patients with live fetuses (p = 0.03). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that thrombocytopenia in the first trimester increases the risks of preterm birth in women with APS. The effective OAPS treatments may improve pregnancy outcomes and not increase the risk of antepartum and postpartum hemorrhage.

Emerging evidence emphasizes the functional impacts of host microbiome on the etiopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, there are limited mechanistic insights into the contribution of microbial biomolecules especially microbial peptides toward modulating immune homeostasis. Here, by mining the metagenomics data of tonsillar microbiome, a deficiency of the encoding genes of lantibiotic peptides salivaricins in RA patients is identified, which shows strong correlation with circulating immune cells. Evidence is provided that the salivaricins exert immunomodulatory effects in inhibiting T follicular helper (Tfh) cell differentiation and interleukin-21 (IL-21) production. Mechanically, salivaricins directly bind to and induce conformational changes of IL-6 and IL-21 receptors, thereby inhibiting the bindings of IL-6 and IL-21 to their receptors and suppressing the downstream signaling pathway. Finally, salivaricin administration exerts both prophylactic and therapeutic effects against experimental arthritis in a murine model of RA. Together, these results provide a mechanism link of microbial peptides-mediated immunomodulation.

AZD9291 can prolong the survival of patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Unfortunately, resistance to AZD9291 is inevitable and hinders effectiveness. Studies showed the combination of Cyclosporin A (CsA) and AZD9291 could increase the efficacy of AZD9291, but the delivery efficiency of free drugs was limited. A chitooligosaccharide (COS) -based nanoparticle with enhanced delivery efficiency and endocytosis was constructed in this study. The results showed that this pH/redox cascade responsive nanoparticles improved therapeutic effect. The system is small and the surface charge changed from negative to positive according to the weakly acidic tumor microenvironment. After endocytosis, the nanoparticles decomposed and released AZD9291 and CsA in redox-rich cytoplasm. Experiments in vitro and in vivo proved that the nanoparticles overcame the biological barrier and significantly enhanced the anti-tumor effect of AZD9291. The novel multifunctional nanoparticle provides a way to overcome the drug resistance and the possibility of clinical application.

The imbalance between pathogenic and beneficial species of the intestinal microbiome and metabolism in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains unclarified. Here, using shotgun-based metagenome sequencing for a treatment-naïve patient cohort and a "quasi-paired cohort" method, we observed a deficiency of butyrate-producing species and an overwhelming number of butyrate consumers in RA patients. These outcomes mainly occurred in patients with positive ACPA, with a mean AUC of 0.94. This panel was also validated in established RA with an AUC of 0.986 in those with joint deformity. In addition, we showed that butyrate promoted Tregs, while suppressing Tconvs and osteoclasts, due to potentiation of the reduction in HDAC expression and down-regulation of proinflammatory cytokine genes. Dietary butyrate supplementation conferred anti-inflammatory benefits in a mouse model by rebalancing TFH cells and Tregs, as well as reducing antibody production. These findings reveal the critical role of butyrate-metabolizing species and suggest the potential of butyrate-based therapies for RA patients.

Consumption of chitooligosaccharides (COS) prevents intestinal microecological disorder. The mechanisms for the effects of different COS on the gut microbiota are currently unclear. This study examined the impact of COS with different degrees of polymerization (DPs) on the gut microbial community and metabolic profile. COS significantly promoted the growth of Bacteroidetes, and inhibited that of Proteobacteria, which were significantly correlated with DPs. COS3 and COS2 enriched the butyrate production in microbial communities composed of Clostridium and Parabacteroides. Microbial communities enriched by DPs 4-6 COS displayed increased diversity in differential metabolite function. Several biomarkers were distinguished significantly, including unsaturated fatty acids, bile acids, indoles and amines, which are mainly related to processes such as fatty acid synthesis and decomposition, bile acid modification, and tryptophan metabolism. The results display the relationship among COS structure-gut microbes-metabolomics, providing a new perspective for COS as a functional food to improve intestinal health.

Chitooligosaccharides (COSs) have various physiological activities and broad application prospects; however, their pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution remain unclear. In this study, a sensitive and selective ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) method for determining chitobiose (COS 2) and chitotriose (COS 3) in rat serum and tissues was developed. This method was successfully validated based on FDA guidelines in terms of selectivity, calibration curves (lower limit of quantification was 0.002 µg/mL for COS 2 and 0.02 µg/mL for COS 3), precision (intra-day relative standard deviation of 0.04%-3.55% and inter-day relative standard deviation of 1.94%-11.63%), accuracy (intra-day relative error of - 1.81%-11.06% and inter-day relative error of - 9.41%-8.63%), matrix effects, recovery (97.10%-101.29%), stability, dilution integrity, and carry-over effects. Then, the method was successfully applied to the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution study of COS 2 and COS 3 after intragastric and intravenous administration. After intragastric administration, COS 2 and COS 3 were rapidly absorbed, reached peak concentrations in the serum after approximately 0.45 h, and showed rapid elimination with clearances greater than 18.82 L/h/kg and half-lives lower than 6 h. The absolute oral bioavailability of COS 2 and COS 3 was 0.32%-0.52%. COS 2 and COS 3 were widely distributed in Wistar rat tissues and could penetrated the blood-brain barrier without tissue accumulation.

OBJECTIVES: Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) is a rare inflammatory arthritis, with a higher incidence of malignancy. The aim of this study is to identify biomarkers for predicting malignancy in RS3PE. METHODS: A total of 51 patients with RS3PE from September 2007 to May 2019 were retrospectively reviewed and followed for up to 5 years, with 15 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and 14 patients with elderly-onset rheumatoid arthritis (EORA) as disease controls. Serum levels of angiogenesis cytokines were measured by electrochemiluminescent immunoassay and Luminex Human Magnetic Assay. Clinical data and laboratory parameters were analyzed to identify risk factors for malignancy. RESULTS: A total of forty-eight RS3PE patients (94.1%) were available with follow-up data; 8 patients (16.7%) were diagnosed with malignancy, of which 6 patients were hematological tumor; and 2 patients were solid tumors. Serum levels of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) were exclusively higher in RS3PE patients with malignancy [14.21 (7.52, 23.18) ng/mL] than RS3PE patients without malignancy [4.32 (2.88, 7.42) ng/mL], OA [3.20 (2.20, 5.30) ng/mL], and EORA [3.20 (2.20, 5.30) ng/mL]. The optimal cut-off value of bFGF for malignancy was 10ng/mL in RS3PE. Logistic regression analysis indicated that elevation of bFGF was a risk factor for malignancy in RS3PE. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicated that bFGF was elevated in RS3PE patients with malignancy and could serve as a biomarker for predicting paraneoplastic RS3PE.

Neddylation, an important type of post-translational modification, has been implicated in innate and adapted immunity. But the role of neddylation in innate immune response against RNA viruses remains elusive. Here we report that neddylation promotes RNA virus-induced type I IFN production, especially IFN-α. More importantly, myeloid deficiency of UBA3 or NEDD8 renders mice less resistant to RNA virus infection. Neddylation is essential for RNA virus-triggered activation of Ifna gene promoters. Further exploration has revealed that mammalian IRF7undergoes neddylation, which is enhanced after RNA virus infection. Even though neddylation blockade does not hinder RNA virus-triggered IRF7 expression, IRF7 mutant defective in neddylation exhibits reduced ability to activate Ifna gene promoters. Neddylation blockade impedes RNA virus-induced IRF7 nuclear translocation without hindering its phosphorylation and dimerization with IRF3. By contrast, IRF7 mutant defective in neddylation shows enhanced dimerization with IRF5, an Ifna repressor when interacting with IRF7. In conclusion, our data demonstrate that myeloid neddylation contributes to host anti-viral innate immunity through targeting IRF7 and promoting its transcriptional activity.

Accumulating evidence has implicated dietary factors as important risks for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) development, but analyses of the effects of red meat consumption on RA have yielded diverging results. The aim of this study was to explore the association between red meat and RA in a large-scale, cross-sectional study. From June to December 2016, a total of 733 patients were investigated, from which 707 participants were included in the analysis. These patients were divided into two groups according to their consumption of red meat (< 100 g/day; ≥ 100 g/day). The intake of red meat was assessed via physician-administered questionnaire. Generalized linear models were used to analyze relationships between the red meat intake and RA, adjusting for potential confounders including demographic, clinical, laboratory, and other dietary factors. Compared with low-intake red meat RA patients, high-intake red meat patients had an earlier onset age (p = 0.02) and had higher BMI (p = 0.003). The age at disease onset for the high-intake patients was 6.46 years earlier than for low-intake patients, after adjustment for demographic and other possible confounders (ß = - 6.46, 95% CI - 9.77, - 3.15; p = 0.0001). Further, stratified analyses showed that this inverse association of red meat intake with RA onset age was especially evident in smokers and overweight patients (BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2). In conclusion, high-intake red meat is associated with early onset of RA, especially in smokers or overweight patients. The findings indicate that eating less red meat could be a recommendation given to patients at risk for RA development.

BACKGROUND: Intensive therapy with disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) has been reported to improve the outcomes of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, real-world study on the effect of intensive therapy on RA sustained remission is still lacking. This study aimed to investigate the outcome of sustained intensive DMARD therapy (SUIT) for RA in a real-world 5-year consecutive cohort. METHODS: Based on a consecutive cohort of 610 out-patients with RA, remission of RA was assessed in 541 patients from 2012 to 2017, by dividing into SUIT, non-SUIT, and intermittent SUIT (Int-SUIT) groups. Changes in the disease activity scores were evaluated by 28-joint disease activity score based on erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR), 28-joint disease activity score based on C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP), and clinical deep remission criteria (CliDR). Cumulative remission rates between different groups were compared using Kaplan-Meier curves and predictive factors of sustained remission were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The remission rates of the SUIT group decreased from 12.0% (65/541) to 5.6% (20/359) based on DAS28-ESR, from 14.0% (76/541) to 7.2% (26/359) based on DAS28-CRP, and from 8.5% (46/541) to 3.1% (11/359) based on CliDR, respectively, with a gradually decreasing trend during the 5 years. The SUIT regimen led to a significantly higher cumulative remission rate than non-SUIT regimen based on DAS28-ESR (39.7% vs. 19.5%, P = 0.001), DAS28-CRP (42.0% vs. 19.6%, P = 0.001), and CliDR (24.5% vs. 8.7%, P = 0.001). The cumulative remission rates of patients treated with SUIT regimen were significantly higher than those treated with Int-SUIT regimen based on DAS28-ESR (39.7% vs. 25.7%, P = 0.043) and CliDR (24.5% vs. 14.2%, P = 0.047), but there was no significant difference between the two groups based on DAS28-CRP (42.0% vs. 27.4%, P = 0.066). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the use of SUIT regimen was an independent favorable predictor according to different remission definitions (for DAS28-ESR: odds ratio [OR], 2.215, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.271-3.861, P = 0.005; for DAS28-CRP: OR, 1.520, 95% CI: 1.345-1.783, P = 0.002; for CliDR: OR, 1.525, 95% CI: 1.314-1.875, P = 0.013). CONCLUSION: Sustained intensive treatment of RA is an optimal strategy in daily practice and will lead to an increased remission rate.

INTRODUCTION: The role of tea consumption on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been studied in recent years, but no clear conclusion has been drawn as a result of small sample size of the studies or the fact that only in vitro studies have been performed. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to explore the possible association of tea consumption with RA through a large-scale, real-world study. METHODS: A total of 733 RA patients were investigated from June to December, 2016. The disease activity of RA was assessed according to disease activity score 28-erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The amount and types of tea consumption were recorded by on-site self-administered questionnaires. Logistic regression models were applied to analyze the correlation between tea consumption and disease activity, adjusting for demographics, clinical and laboratory factors. RESULTS: There was an inverse association between tea consumption and disease activity in RA patients (OR 0.66, 95% CI 0.46-0.94). Compared with non-tea drinkers, a higher-intake of tea (>750 mL/day) was associated with lower disease activity of RA (OR 0.39, 95% CI 0.19-0.79), but not low-intake (≤750 mL/day; OR 0.83, 95% CI 0.42-1.63). A significant dose-response association was found between the amount of tea consumption and disease activity (p for trend <0.01). Further hierarchical regression analysis showed that such inverse associations were mainly present in female patients (p = 0.004), non-smokers (p = 0.01) or elders (≥60 years; p = 0.01). CONCLUSION: Tea consumption is associated with decreased disease activity of RA, suggesting the potential beneficial effect of tea in the disease.

Neddylation is a ubiquitination-like pathway. It has been reported that neddylation inhibition with the pharmacological agent MLN4924 potently uppresses lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced proinflammatory cytokine production, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6, by preventing the degradation of phosphorylated inhibitor of κB (p-IκB) in macrophages. However, whether neddylation serves a similar role in neutrophils remains unknown. In the present study MLN4924 treatment led to the accumulation of P-IκBα in neutrophils as well as the decreased production of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß in response to LPS, in a dose-dependent manner. The viability of neutrophils was only marginally affected in the same conditions, without statistical significance. Furthermore, the nuclear factor (NF)-κB inhibitor JSH-23 mimicked the effects of MLN4924 in neutrophils, and the inhibitory effects of MLN4924 on LPS-induced proinflammatory cytokine production diminished in the presence of JSH-23. Thus, the results of the present study suggest that neddylation inhibition suppresses neutrophil function by suppressing the NF-κB signaling pathway.

All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) has demonstrated notable success in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) by inducing granulocytic differentiation. The underlying mechanisms of ATRA therapeutic effects have not been entirely clarified. Here, we reported that the regulation of neddylation, a ubiquitination-like post-translational modification, was involved in the treatment of ATRA on APL. Treating APL cells with ATRA led to the degradation of UBA3, a subunit of neddylation E1. Lysosome-autophagy pathway but not proteasome pathway was responsible for the degradation of UBA3. Neddylation suppression in APL cells was capable of inducing apoptosis, differentiation and proliferation inhibition, suggesting a pivotal role of neddylation in APL cells. ATRA treatment also led to UBA3 degradation in primary APL cells. Taken together, our findings indicated that neddylation was important to maintain the malignant features of APL cells, and suppression of neddylation was involved in the effects of ATRA on APL cells.
