RESUMEN

Nucleotide sequence analysis of several genes responsible for the anthrax pathogen definitive properties--motility and penicillinase activity--determined a chromosomal locus promising for interspecies differentiation. We demonstrated that the gene fliC encoding flagellin synthesis contains extended region, distinguishing B. anthracis strains from the majority of non-pathogenic and opportunistic bacilli. A novel method for the anthrax pathogen indication and identification based on determination of the differences in the chromosomal genes fliC and hom2 structure was suggested. A total of 60 strains of different Bacillus spp. (B. anthracis, B. cereus, B. thuringiensis, B. mycoides, B. megaterium, B. subtilis, etc.) were tested using two chromosomal DNA targets. The algorithm developed in this work permits to detect the pathogenic microorganism and reliably differentiate it from other Bacillus spp. representatives. The introduction of primers complementary to specific sequences of pXO1 and pXQ2 plasmids into the multiplex PCR makes it possible to receive additional information on proposed virulence of the isolate.

RESUMEN

Genomic fingerprinting analysis of plague agent strains of the main subspecies isolated in natural foci of various types in the Russian Federation and neighboring countries suggests their genetic polymorphism, while they are similar in phenotypic properties. The strains of the main subspecies, Y. pesis subsp. Pestis, fall into four genetic variants, each of them being associated with specific carrier species. The conserved genomic fingerprinting profile of each genovariant of Y. pesis subsp. Pestis strains ensures the suggested methodic approach to be promising for the intraspecies differentiation of plague agent strains (including atypical strains). Correlation of genovariants with carrier species permits their application for research into enzootic territories, where carrier change-over takes place.

RESUMEN

The clinical effect of antibiotics in treatment of children at the age of 2 months to 5 years with acute pneumonia during a gnotobiological department in the wards of the 1st class purity and under the conditions of a routine pediatric hospital was estimated. The course of the antibiotic therapy amounted to 4.7 +/- 0.42 days in the gnotobiological department and 12.0 +/- 0.3 days in the routine hospital. After recovery the patients were discharged in 7.61 +/- 0.76 days from the gnotobiological department and in 15.2 +/- 1.11 days from the routine hospital.
