Industrial wastewater contains a wide range of pollutants that, if released directly into natural ecosystems, have the potential to pose serious risks to the environment.This study aims to investigate sustainable and efficient approaches for treating tannery wastewater, employing a combination of hyphenated Fenton oxidation and adsorption processes. Rigorous analyses were conducted on wastewater samples, evaluating parameters like COD, sulphide, NH3-N, PO43-, NO3-, and Cr(VI). The performance of this adsorbent material was gauged through column adsorption experiments. A comprehensive characterization of the adsorbent was undertaken using techniques such as SEM, EDX, BET, FTIR, XRD, and LIBS. The study delved into varying operational parameters like bed depth (ranging from 3.5 to 9.5 cm) diameter (2.5 cm) and influent flow rate (ranging from 5 to 15mLmin-1). The experimental outcomes revealed that increasing the bed depth and decreasing the influent flow rate significantly bolstered the adsorption column's effectiveness. Breakthrough curves obtained were fitted with different models, including the Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models. The most optimal column performance was achieved with a bed height of 10.5 cm and a flow rate of 5mLmin-1. The combined process achieved removal efficiencies of 94.5% for COD, 97.4% for sulphide, 96.2% for NH3-N, 83.1% for NO3-, 79.3% for PO43-, and 96.9% for Cr(VI) in tannery effluent. This research presents a notable stride toward the development of sustainable and efficient strategies for tannery wastewater treatment.

Neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) of the cervix is a malignant tumor and is classified into low and intermediate-grade neuroendocrine tumor (NET), and high-grade small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (SCNEC), and large cells neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC). SCNEC of the cervix is an Infrequent tumor with an incidence of less than 1% of all gynecological malignancies. It is characterized by small to medium-sized tumor cells with scant cytoplasm and neuroendocrine differentiation. Most cases of SCNEC of the cervix manifest in pure forms, and only cases show coexisting, non-neuroendocrine component of HPV-associated adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. In this report, reviewing the literature, we present one such unique case of SCNEC of the cervix with adenocarcinoma and high-grade squamous intraepithelial neoplasia.

The degradation of organic pollutants present in domestic and industrial effluents is a matter of concern because of their high persistence and ecotoxicity. Recently, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are being emphasized for organic pollutant removal from effluents, as they have shown higher degradation efficiencies when compared to conventional activated sludge processes. Sulfate radical-based methods are some of the AOPs, mainly carried out using persulfate (PS) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS), which have gained attention due to the ease of sulfate radical generation and the effective degradation of organic molecules. PMS is gaining more popularity because of its high reactivity and ability to generate excess sulfate radicals. PMS has been the major focus; therefore, its mechanism has been explained, and limitations have been elaborated. The involvement of metal-organic frameworks for PMS/PS activation applied to organic pollutant removal and recent advances in the application of biochar and hydrogel-assisted metal-organic frameworks have been discussed.

The utilization of municipal solid waste (MSW) and sewage sludge (SS) as a source of renewable energy is crucial in achieving sustainable and integrated MSW management. SS and organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) can be anaerobically digested to produce methane for energy. However, anaerobic digestion of specific substrates is challenging with respect to substrate characteristics. The problem of mono-digestion can be mitigated by co-digestion of these two major organic wastes because of their complementary characteristics. Moreover, there is a lack of studies on optimization of different mix ratios of organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and sewage sludge (SS) based on total solids (TS). The study aims to optimize the mix ratio for anaerobic co-digestion of OFMSW and SS. The study further elucidates synergistic effects associated with the co-digestion process. Different mix ratios of SS and OFMSW (0:100, 20:80, 40:60, 60:40, 80:20, 100:0) at 5, 7.5 and 10% TS were assessed for biomethane potential assessment. The results showed that with an increase in SS in the mix ratio feed the methane yield increased by 91% and 50% as compared to mono digestion of sewage sludge and OFMSW respectively at TS 7.5%. Based on the kinetic analysis, it was observed that the lag phase reduced for 60:40 mix ratio leading to higher rate of biodegradation. Positive synergistic effects were observed for 40:60, 60:40 and 80:20 mix ratio of SS:OFMSW based on co-digestion impact factor value. Response surface modelling was used to get the optimized mix ratio and TS %. The optimum mix ratio with the highest methane yield (388 ml/gVS added) was 70:30 (SS: OFMSW) at TS 7.5% with a desirability value of 0.98. These findings demonstrate that co-digesting SS and OFMSW is a preferable alternative for harnessing renewable energy and managing organic waste in a sustainable manner.

Phthalic acid esters are emerging pollutants, commonly used as plasticizers that are categorized as hazardous endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). A rise in anthropogenic activities leads to an increase in phthalate concentration in the environment which leads to various adverse environmental effects and health issues in humans and other aquatic organisms. This paper gives an overview of the research related to phthalate ester contamination and degradation methods by conducting a bibliometric analysis with VOS Viewer. Ecotoxicity analysis requires an understanding of the current status of phthalate pollution, health impacts, exposure routes, and their sources. This review covers five toxic phthalates, occurrences in the aquatic environment, toxicity studies, biodegradation studies, and degradation pathways. It highlights the various advanced oxidation processes like photocatalysis, Fenton processes, ozonation, sonolysis, and modified AOPs used for phthalate removal from the environment.

Ficus geniculata (FG) is one of the underutilized fig species in India and throughout the world. However, the different parts of the plant have numerous phytochemicals and have the potential to boom the functional food as well as the pharmaceutical food industry. The plant is still unexplored and needs the attention of researchers and industrialists for its value addition. Therefore, in the present investigation, different parts (shoot, leaves and bark) of FG were exploited and leaves were selected based on physicochemical and phytochemical analysis for nugget supplementation. The FG leaves powder incorporated nuggets were prepared using different variables: FG (0 to 50%), salt (0.07 to 0.92%), and black pepper (0.079 to 0.92%) along with black gram as filler to make it 100%. The optimum conditions for the production of supplemented nuggets were having 0.82 desirability. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) also confirms the retention of bioactive compounds in the nuggets. No remarkable clustering was observed, which indicating the significant (p ≤ 0.05) effect of all the variables on the quality attributes of the supplement nuggets. Thus the developed conditions will be useful for the nugget industry and also may be a good alternative to the vegetarian people.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma is a rare tumor in the uterine cervix with a dismal prognosis. Clinically, it is difficult to differentiate from other cervical malignancies. Clinical presentation varies from vaginal bleeding, discharge per vaginum and cervical mass. For better clinical outcomes, it is vital to diagnose promptly and accurately. We report a 35-year-old female presented with whitish discharge per vaginum and lower abdominal pain for six months. Per speculum reveals an irregular, firm mass measuring 4x3 cm involving both the cervical lips, which turned out to a small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a very rare tumor having a poor prognosis. Approximately 25% of these cases may present with metastases at the time of diagnosis. Common sites of metastasis are lung, liver, and lymph nodes. The bone metastases in ACC are less frequent. We report a case of a 35-year-old male presented with right parotid region swelling, rendered with a diagnosis of ACC metastasizing to the mandible ramus, which is an uncommon site.

Gigantic growth of social media and unbeatable trend of progress in the direction of the web seeking user's interests have generated a storm of social text streams. Seeking information to know the phenomenon of various events in the early stages is quite interesting. Various kinds of social media live streams attract users to participate in real-time events to become a part of an immense crowd. However, the vast amount of text is present on social media, the unnecessary information bogs a social text stream filtering to extract the appropriate topics and events effectively. Therefore, detecting, classifying, and identifying burst events is quite challenging due to the sparse and noisy text of Twitter. The researchers' significant open challenges are the effective cleaning and profound representation of the text stream data. This research article's main contribution is to provide a detailed study and explore bursty event detection in the social text stream. Thus, this work's main motive is to present a concise approach that classifies and detects the event keywords and maintains the record of the event based on related features. These features permit the approach to successfully determine the booming pattern of events scrupulously at different time span. Experiments are conducted and compared with the state-of-the-art methods, which reveals that the proposed approach is proficient to detect valuable patterns of interest and also achieve better scoresto extract burst events on social media posted by various users.

BACKGROUND: Hirschsprung's disease (HD) is a genetic disorder with a complex pattern of inheritance. Some single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are identified to be associated with the risk of Hirschsprung's Disease (HSCR). AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to know the association between the rearranged during transfection (RET) proto-oncogene polymorphism and HD and to characterize the SNPs of RET proto-oncogene affecting HD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted in the Department of Pathology in association with the Department of Pediatric Surgery. Blood samples were collected from the patients diagnosed with confirmed HD and from age- and sex-matched controls. This case-control study consisted of 53 HSCR cases and 50 controls. Genotypes of rs1800860 and rs1800861 were analysed in by polymerase chain reaction amplification and sanger sequencing. Associations with the risk of HSCR were estimated by odds ratio (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) using. RESULTS: We observed that in the case of rs1800860A > G genotype AG was not associated with the increasing risk of disease (OR with 95% CI = 0.568 [0.238-1.356]) while genotype GG was associated with increasing the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 2.278 [0.967-5.366]). In the case of rs1800861G > T genotype GT was associated with lowering the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 0.230 [0.0981-0.539]) while genotype TT was associated with increasing the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 9.647 [3.830-24.302]). The difference in the genotypic distribution of GT and TT at rs1800861G > T between Short segment disease (SSD) cases and Long Segment Disease (LSD) and total colonic aganglionosis was made by Fisher's exact test and it was statistically significant (P = 0.0476 and 0.0054). CONCLUSION: The results of this study support the hypothesis that variations in RET pathway might play an important role in the development of HSCR.

KEY MESSAGE: Plant-produced SazCA and its application to CO2 capture. Technologies that rely on chemical absorption or physical adsorption have been developed to capture CO2 from industrial flue gases and sequester it at storage sites. Carbonic anhydrases (CAs), metalloenzymes, that catalyze the reversible hydration of CO2 have recently received attention as biocatalysts in the capture of CO2 from flue gases, but their cost presents a major obstacle for use at an industrial scale. This cost, however, can be reduced either by producing a long-lasting enzyme suitable for CO2 capture or by lowering production costs. High-level expression, easy purification, and immobilization of CAs from Sulfurihydrogenibium azorense (SazCA) were investigated in a plant system. Fusion of the 60-amino acid-long ectodomain (M-domain) of the human receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase C increased the levels of SazCA accumulation. Fusion of the cellulose-binding module (CBM3) from Clostridium thermocellum resulted in tight binding of recombinant protein to microcrystalline cellulose beads, enabling easy purification. The chimeric fusion protein, BMC-SazCA, which consisted of SazCA with the M and CBM3 domains, was expressed in tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana), giving a recombinant protein yield in leaf extracts of 350 mg/kg fresh weight. BMC-SazCA produced in planta was active in the presence of various chemicals used in CO2 capture. Immobilization of BMC-SazCA on the surface of microcrystalline cellulose beads extended its heat stability, allowing its reuse in multiple rounds of the CO2 hydration reaction. These results suggest that production of SazCA in plants has great potential for CA-based CO2 sequestration and mineralization.

Teratomas are nonseminomatous germ cell tumors composed of elements derived from more than one germinal layers (endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm). Malignant transformation of teratoma in the testis is well known; however, benign somatic neoplasm arising in a testicular teratoma is a rare occurrence. We report a case of meningothelial variant of meningioma arising in a pure and mature teratoma of the testis in a 5-year-old boy. Immunohistochemistry was positive for epithelial membrane antigen and vimentin. To our knowledge, this is the first report of meningothelial meningioma in a prepubertal testicular teratoma.

PURPOSE: In the present study, we systematically identified and evaluated a synbiotic combination of phytochemical epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and probiotic bacteria in amelioration of immunosenescence and oxidative stress in aged mice. METHODS: Inhibitory effects of EGCG against different bacterial species were evaluated in vitro, followed by analysis to identify potential combination of EGCG and probiotic bacteria against alleviation of oxidative and inflammatory stress ex vivo. The best synbiotic combination, vis-à-vis prebiotic and probiotic supplementation alone, was then evaluated in aged Swiss albino mice for modulation of various immunological and antioxidative parameters. RESULTS: EGCG strongly inhibited the growth of pathogenic microbes as compared to probiotic bacteria. A combination of EGCG with probiotic Lactobacillus fermentum (LF) provided evidence of additive effects in the amelioration of oxidative and inflammatory stress-induced cell death. In vivo study revealed that combined supplementation of LF and EGCG significantly enhanced neutrophil oxidative index, CD3+ cell numbers and activation status, Th1/Th2 cytokines in splenic supernatants as well as liver Nrf-2 expression in comparison with treatments with LF or EGCG alone. The combined application of EGCG and LF did not simply result in additive or synergistic effects in relation with individual treatments. CONCLUSION: These observations suggest that EGCG could be considered as a potential prebiotic that can offer second generation synbiotic health beneficial effects for the alleviation of some of the deleterious aspects of immunosenescence and aging.

A software bug is characterized by its attributes. Various prediction models have been developed using these attributes to enhance the quality of software products. The reporting of bugs leads to high irregular patterns. The repository size is also increasing with enormous rate, resulting in uncertainty and irregularities. These uncertainty and irregularities are termed as veracity in the context of big data. In order to quantify these irregular and uncertain patterns, the authors have appliedentropy-based measures of the terms reported in the summary and the comments submitted by the users. Both uncertainties and irregular patterns have been taken care of byentropy-based measures. In this paper, the authors considered that the bug fixing process does not only depend upon the calendar time, testing effort and testing coverage, but it also depends on the bug summary description and comments. The paper proposed bug dependency-based mathematical models by considering the summary description of bugs and comments submitted by users in terms of the entropy-based measures. The models were validated on different Eclipse project products. The models proposed in the literature have different types of growth curves. The models mainly follow exponential, S-shaped or mixtures of both types of curves. In this paper, the proposed models were compared with the modelsfollowingexponential, S-shaped and mixtures of both types of curves.

BACKGROUND: Plant protease Inhibitors (PIs) play key roles in regulation of many biological activities and being less toxic, more potent and specific in comparision to chemical inhibitors. METHODS: A new proteinaceous trypsin inhibitor was isolated and purified from Macrotyloma uniflorum seeds with a molecular mass of 25 KDa was purified to homogeneity via three sequential purification steps i.e., ammonium sulphate precipitation to CNBr activativated Sepharose 4B coupled trypsin affinity chromatography. Purified protease inhibitor (PI) showed optical specific activities of 665 µmols of tyrosine released/ml/min. RESULTS: Overall, there was a remarkable increase in the fold of purification. MUTI is stable to denaturation by heat (upto 80°C), pH (4-10).The inhibitory activity increased to two fold in the presence of mercuric chloride and got reduced by half in the presence of ferric chloride. SDS, Dithiothreitol, ß-mercaptoethanol, Hydrogen peroxide, Triton X 100 enhanced its inhibitory activity whereas activity was reduced in the presence of DMSO. Chemical modification of the inhibitor by DEPC decreased its activity but the activity was increased considerably when modified with NE and PMSF. Presence of protease inhibitor activity was confirmed by reverse zymography and Dot- blot. Also MUPI has antifungal and antimicrobial properties. MUPI inhibited Phytophthora capsici by 16.6% and Rhizoctonia solani by 27.7%. CONCLUSION: Antibacterial activity was shown against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. MUPI retained 90% inhibition upon storage at 4°C for over a period of six months. Thus PI can be effectively exploited to increase the shelf life of seafood.

BACKGROUND: Meningiomas are the most common primary central nervous system neoplasms originating from the arachnoid cap cells and constitute between 13% and 26% of all intracranial tumors. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to analyze the age-, sex-, and site-wise distribution of different histological patterns of meningiomas seen in our center and to assess the status of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and proliferation marker Ki-67 in various grades of meningioma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study was done in 90 cases. Patients presented with symptoms of headache and seizure and underwent subsequent excision surgery at Neurosurgery Department were taken. We have studied histological typing and grading of the tumors, and immunohistochemical staining was done for ER, PR, and Ki-67. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Two-group comparison was done using Mann-Whitney U-test and Fisher's exact test. Comparison of Ki-67 expression between Grade 1 and Grade 2 meningiomas was determined using Mann-Whitney U-test. Comparison of ER and PR status between different histological grades was done by Fisher's exact test. Two-tailed P < 0.001 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: According to histological type, meningothelial meningioma is most common (38.8%) followed by transitional (22.2%). PR positivity is seen in 96.34% of Grade 1 tumors, and all Grade 2 tumors were PR negative (Fisher's exact test P < 0.001). About 3.66% of Grade 1 and all Grade 2 tumors were positive for ER (Fisher's exact test two-tailed P < 0.001). Mean Ki-67 labeling index (LI) was 2.57 ± 1.674 among Grade I tumors, 7.11 ± 1.084 in Grade II meningiomas. CONCLUSIONS: Most of Grade 1 meningiomas show PRs positivity and lack of ERs positivity. Meningiomas with higher proliferation index and negative PR are very likely to be Grade II or Grade III. Evaluation of ER, PR status, and Ki-67 labeling index (LI) with histological evaluation helps us in providing information about the biologic behavior of meningiomas.
