RESUMEN
The decomposition pathways of hemoglobin UV absorption spectrum into the absorption spectra of the protein and non-protein components are proposed and substantiated by means of an additive model. We have established that the heme component has an absorption band with a maximum at λ(max) = 269.2 nm (ε = 97163) and the apoprotein component has an absorption band with a maximum at λ(max) = 278.4 nm (ε = 48669) for the wavelength range from 240.0 to 320.0 nm. An integral relative proportion of absorption for the heme fraction (78.8%) and apoprotein (21.2%) in the investigating wavelength range is defined.

Electrophoretically homogenous preparations of malate dehydrogenase (MDH) isoforms of the bacteria Sphaerotilus natans D-507 with specific activity 7.46 U/mg and 5.74 U/mg with respect to protein concentration have been obtained. The dimeric isoform of the enzyme was shown to function under organotrophic growth conditions, whereas the tetrameric isoform was induced under mixotrophic cultivation conditions. PCR-analysis revealed a single gene encoding the malate dehydrogenase molecule. The topography of the MDH isoform surface was studied by atomic-force microscopy, and a 3D-structure of the enzyme was obtained. Spectraphotometric analysis data allowed us to suggest that stabilization of the tetrameric form of MDH is due to additional bounds implicated in the quaternary structure formation.

The authors examined the possibility of replacing immunoperoxidase conjugates with silver sol (mean diameter of particles 9 nm) adsorption-bound to antispecies IgG in solid-phase enzyme immunoassay in microtitration plates. Experiments with commercial test systems Antigen and Recombitest-antiHIV-1,2 manufactured by the Vektor State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology, Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of the Russian Federation, showed that the sensitivity of detecting anti-HIV with silver immunosols and boosting of the signal with physical development was no less sensitive than standard EIA with immunoperoxidase conjugate. Preparation of silver immunosols is simple, easily reproducible, and is based on sparing and economic use of immunoreagents.

Several detergents and chemical compounds--Tweens 40, 60, 80, Triton X-100, Triton WR-1340, polyvinylpyrrolidone, dimethylsulfoxide, urea, n-butyl, MESK, and combinations thereof were used for the isolation of surface proteins of vaccinia virus. Optimal conditions for the treatment of the virus with detergents were selected, permitting isolation of vaccinia virus surface proteins p35 and p61. Mouse experiments yielded data on the protective properties of the isolated proteins. Protein p35 may turn to be one of the major proteins responsible for the formation of protective immunity in vaccination with vaccinia virus.

Protein synthesis and reception for 1,2-3H-(N)-dexamethasone were studied in A, B, C, D subpopulations of rat thymocytes after treatment with thymosine, cyclic adenosine-3,' 5'-monophosphate (cAMP) and caffeine. Thymosine inhibited the 1,2-3H-(N)-dexamethasone reception in rat thymocyte subpopulations A, B and C by 30-40%, stimulated the protein synthesis in A and B fractions by 30% as well as inhibited the synthesis in D fraction by 14%. Caffeine, administered together with thymosine, inhibited the protein synthesis by 80% in C and D thymocyte subpopulations and - by 47% in B subpopulations. After simultaneous treatment with exogenous cAMP, thymosine and caffeine the protein synthesis was inhibited by 14% in all the thymocyte subpopulations. The data obtained suggest that thymosine and caffeine affect the various lymphocyte T subpopulations, dissimilar in their differentiation.

Proteins of the Helix pomatia abdominal complex were separated by electrophoresis. The electrophoretic mobility of most of the proteins was RF = 0.2--0.6. The abdominal ganglion was incubated in the medium with 1 = (4.5H3)-leucine and 2.10(-6) M 6N2'O-dibutyryladenosine-3',5'-cyclomonophosphate for 3, 6 and 24 hours. It was shown that radioactivity of specific low-mol wt neuronal proteins was increased by the former, but the latter inhibited this process.
