RESUMEN

Vasopressin and oxytocin are well known and evolutionarily ancient modulators of social behavior. The distribution and relative densities of vasopressin and oxytocin receptors are known to modulate the sensitivity to these signaling molecules. Comparative work is needed to determine which neural networks have been conserved and modified over evolutionary time, and which social behaviors are commonly modulated by nonapeptide signaling. To this end, we used receptor autoradiography to determine the distribution of vasopressin 1a and oxytocin receptors in the Southern giant pouched rat (Cricetomys ansorgei) brain, and to assess the relative densities of these receptors in specific brain regions. We then compared the relative receptor pattern to 23 other species of rodents using a multivariate ANOVA. Pouched rat receptor patterns were strikingly similar to hamsters and voles overall, despite the variation in social organization among species. Uniquely, the pouched rat had dense vasopressin 1a receptor binding in the caudate-putamen (i.e., striatum), an area that might impact affiliative behavior in this species. In contrast, the pouched rat had relatively little oxytocin receptor binding in much of the anterior forebrain. Notably, however, oxytocin receptor binding demonstrated extremely dense binding in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, which is associated with the modulation of several social behaviors and a central hub of the social decision-making network. Examination of the nonapeptide system has the potential to reveal insights into species-specific behaviors and general themes in the modulation of social behavior.

Importance: Children undergoing treatment for leukemia are at increased risk of severe sepsis, a dysregulated immune response to infection leading to acute organ dysfunction. As cancer survivors, they face a high burden of long-term adverse effects. The association between sepsis during anticancer therapy and long-term organ dysfunction in adult survivors of childhood cancer has not been examined. Objective: To determine whether severe sepsis during therapy for leukemia in childhood is associated with subsequent chronic health conditions in adult survivors. Design, Setting, and Participants: This cohort study included 644 adult survivors of childhood leukemia who were diagnosed between January 1, 1985, and July 19, 2010, and participated in the St Jude Lifetime Cohort Study. Participants were excluded if they received hematopoietic cell transplant or had relapsed leukemia. Data collection ended June 30, 2017. Data were analyzed from July 1, 2020, to January 5, 2024. Exposures: Severe sepsis episodes, defined according to consensus criteria as septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or multiorgan dysfunction associated with infection occurring during anticancer therapy, were abstracted by medical record review for all participants. Main Outcomes and Measures: Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events-defined chronic health condition outcomes were independently abstracted. Associations between sepsis and cumulative incidence of chronic health conditions (eg, cardiovascular, pulmonary, kidney, neurological, and neurocognitive outcomes) were compared by adjusted hazard ratios from Cox proportional hazards logistic regression. Inverse propensity score weighting was used to adjust for potential confounders, including age, year of diagnosis, and leukemia type. Results: The study sample consisted of 644 adult survivors of pediatric leukemia (329 women [51.1%] and 315 men [48.9%]; including 56 with a history of acute myeloid leukemia and 585 with a history of acute lymphoblastic leukemia) who were most recently evaluated at a median age of 24.7 (IQR, 21.2-28.3) years at a median time after leukemia diagnosis of 17.3 (IQR, 13.7-21.9) years. Severe sepsis during treatment of acute childhood leukemia occurred in 46 participants (7.1%). Participants who experienced severe sepsis during treatment were more likely to develop moderate to severe neurocognitive impairment (29 of 46 [63.0%] vs 310 of 598 [51.8%]; adjusted hazard ratio, 1.86 [95% CI, 1.61-2.16]; P < .001) significantly affecting attention, executive function, memory and visuospatial domains. Sepsis was not associated with long-term risk of cardiovascular, pulmonary, kidney, or neurological chronic health conditions. Conclusions and Relevance: In this cohort study of long-term outcomes in survivors of pediatric leukemia, severe sepsis during anticancer therapy for leukemia was associated with a selectively increased risk for development of serious neurocognitive sequelae. Efforts to reduce the effects of anticancer therapy on long-term function and quality of life in survivors might include prevention of severe sepsis during therapy and early detection or amelioration of neurocognitive deficits in survivors of sepsis.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is one of many potential long-term consequences of childhood cancer treatment in females. Causes of POI in this patient population can include chemotherapy, especially alkylating agents, and radiation therapy. Rarely, ovarian tumors lead to ovarian dysfunction. POI can manifest as delayed pubertal development, irregular menses or amenorrhea, and infertility. This diagnosis often negatively impacts emotional health due to the implications of impaired ovarian function after already enduring treatment for a primary malignancy. The emerging adult may be challenged by the impact on energy level, quality of life, and fertility potential. POI can also lead to low bone density and compromised skeletal strength. This review discusses the health consequences of POI in childhood cancer survivors (CCS). We also explore the role of fertility preservation for CCS, including ovarian tissue cryopreservation and other available options. Lastly, knowledge gaps are identified that will drive a future research agenda.

Health and fitness content intended to inspire people to live healthy lives (e.g. "fitspiration") has been linked to negative body image among girls and young women. Fitness influencers purport wanting to motivate healthy behaviors. This study seeks to examine the presence of strategies known to positively influence health behaviors (e.g. attitudes, self-efficacy) as well as of content known to have a negative influence (e.g. objectification) among fitness influencers. We conducted a content analysis (N = 441) of a random sample of one year of posts from four Instagram fitness influencers popular with girls and young women in the United States. The main analysis consisted of codes related to objectification, health promotion strategies, health-related content, and social engagement (i.e., likes). We found that fitness influencers included content that conveyed constructs previously found to positively influence health behaviors (e.g., attitudes and self-efficacy), but objectification was frequently present, in more than half of the posts. Additionally, we found that the presence of objectification in posts was negatively associated with likes, a form of social endorsement. We suggest health communicators aim to work in tandem with fitness influencers to include content that may motivate positive health behaviors and improve media literacy and that influencers aim to reduce the amount of objectifying content included in their posts. Our findings shed light on content being conveyed and possible insights into the negative effects associated with viewing such content.

PURPOSE: To investigate the skeletal phenotype of adolescent girls with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). METHODS: Data are presented from two adolescent girls who participated in a clinical research protocol to evaluate axial bone mineral density (BMD) (via dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, DXA) and appendicular bone density, microarchitecture, and strength (via high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography, HRpQCT). Anthropometric data were also obtained, and pubertal staging was performed by a clinician. RESULTS: Both cases presented with an undetectable estradiol concentration and an elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), meeting the criteria for POI. Each also received alkylating agents as part of their chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but in different locations as one presented with stage IV neuroblastoma and the other, metastatic medulloblastoma. Both had a low BMD of the axial and appendicular skeleton, as well as microarchitectural changes of the latter. The low BMD Z-score (<-2.0) seen when interpreting their DXA measurements for chronological age improved when adjusted for short stature, but it was not normalized. Lastly, most variables obtained by HRpQCT were abnormal for each participant, indicating that appendicular bone structure and strength were compromised. CONCLUSIONS: Chemotherapy and radiation affect growth, puberty, and bone accrual deleteriously. However, as these cases show, POI in an adolescent is not always classic primary ovarian insufficiency. Adolescents with brain cancer can present with signs of estrogen deficiency but may not be able to secrete FSH to the extent of elevation typically seen in long-term cancer survivors. Estrogen deficiency is almost universally present in either clinical setting and prompt recognition facilitates early provision of hormone replacement therapy that may then allow for a resumption of bone accrual as an adolescent approaches her peak bone mass.

Whether food source or energy mediates the effect of fructose-containing sugars on blood pressure (BP) is unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effect of different food sources of fructose-containing sugars at different levels of energy control on BP. We searched MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library through June 2021 for controlled trials ≥7-days. We prespecified 4 trial designs: substitution (energy matched substitution of sugars); addition (excess energy from sugars added); subtraction (excess energy from sugars subtracted); and ad libitum (energy from sugars freely replaced). Outcomes were systolic and diastolic BP. Independent reviewers extracted data. GRADE assessed the certainty of evidence. We included 93 reports (147 trial comparisons, N = 5,213) assessing 12 different food sources across 4 energy control levels in adults with and without hypertension or at risk for hypertension. Total fructose-containing sugars had no effect in substitution, subtraction, or ad libitum trials but decreased systolic and diastolic BP in addition trials (P<0.05). There was evidence of interaction/influence by food source: fruit and 100% fruit juice decreased and mixed sources (with sugar-sweetened beverages [SSBs]) increased BP in addition trials and the removal of SSBs (linear dose response gradient) and mixed sources (with SSBs) decreased BP in subtraction trials. The certainty of evidence was generally moderate. Food source and energy control appear to mediate the effect of fructose-containing sugars on BP. The evidence provides a good indication that fruit and 100% fruit juice at low doses (up to or less than the public health threshold of ~10% E) lead to small, but important reductions in BP, while the addition of excess energy of mixed sources (with SSBs) at high doses (up to 23%) leads to moderate increases and their removal or the removal of SSBs alone (up to ~20% E) leads to small, but important decreases in BP in adults with and without hypertension or at risk for hypertension. Polyamines are positively charged alkylamines ubiquitous among eukaryotes, prokaryotes, and archaea. Humans obtain polyamines through dietary intake, metabolic production, or uptake of polyamines made by gut microbes. The polyamine biosynthetic pathway used by most gut microbes differs from that used by human cells. This alternative pathway employs carboxyspermidine dehydrogenase (CASDH), an enzyme with limited characterization. Here, we solved a 1.94 Å X-ray crystal structure of Bacteroides fragilis CASDH by molecular replacement. BfCASDH is composed of three domains with a fold similar to saccharopine dehydrogenase but with a distinct active site arrangement. Using steady-state methods, we determined kcat and kcat/Km for BfCASDH and Clostridium leptum CASDH using putrescine, diaminopropane, aspartate semi-aldehyde, NADH, and NADPH as substrates. These data revealed evidence of cooperativity in BfCASDH. Putrescine is the likely polyamine substrate and NADPH is the coenzyme used to complete the reaction, forming carboxyspermidine as a product. These data provide the first kinetic characterization of CASDH-a key enzyme in the production of microbial polyamines.

OBJECTIVE: This research study aims to identify the fundamental components of community adaptation for a culturally tailored care partner activation program for Filipino American family caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia (ADRD). DESIGN: The study utilized focus group interviews with community nurse leaders, stakeholders, and family caregivers of patients with ADRD. RESULTS: The research revealed that education and knowledge about the disease, community-based services and facilities, support groups and resources, spiritual and cultural values, and access to transportation are all critical components for community adaptation. CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that a culturally tailored care partner activation program that incorporates these components can enhance the quality of life for Filipino American caregivers and their loved ones with ADRD. The nursing implications of the study underscore the importance of nurses being culturally competent and sensitive to the unique challenges faced by Filipino American caregivers. Nurses can provide valuable support to caregivers by educating them, connecting them with community resources, and advocating for culturally responsive care practices.

PURPOSE: To examine strategies that help motivate social correction behaviors to combat COVID-19-related health misinformation on social media. DESIGN: 2 (message types: narrative vs statistics) x 2 (social frames: individual vs collective) between-subjects experiment. SETTING: Qualtrics-based online experiment via Lucid. SUBJECTS: The final sample consisted of 450 participants (Mage = 45.31). MEASURES: Manipulation check, discussion and correction intentions, and need for cognition (NFC). ANALYSIS: ANCOVA and PROCESS model 3 were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: Significant interaction effects emerged between message types and social frames on discussion intention, F (1, 442) = 5.26, P = .022, and correction intention, F (1, 442) = 4.85, P = .028. Collectively framed narrative correction (Mdiscussion = 3.15, Mcorrection = 3.17) was more effective than individually framed narrative correction (Mdiscussion = 2.73, Mcorrection = 2.77). Individually framed statistical correction (Mdiscussion = 3.10, Mcorrection = 2.95) was more persuasive than collectively framed statistical correction (Mdiscussion = 2.89, Mcorrection = 2.69). The interaction effects were more evident for people low on NFC, P = .031. CONCLUSION: In motivating social correction behaviors, a story is better told with an emphasis on collective interests, and numbers are better presented with personal gains and losses. Future interventions should identify the target audience based on the level of NFC.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a debilitating condition characterized by autonomic and inflammatory features, often caused by fractures, surgeries, or other injuries. Multimodal treatment is utilized, which often includes neuropathic medications and physical therapy. We had a case of a 24-year-old man who was diagnosed with CRPS II following an open reduction and internal fixation of a trimalleolar fracture. Significant improvement of edema, pain, and function was achieved with early initiation of gabapentin, nortriptyline, and physical therapy. In this case report, we discuss the therapeutic challenges regarding his recovery and review the literature on the utility of medications and interventional methods in treating CRPS II. We note that early treatment response may be an important prognostic indicator for the progression of CRPS II and additional studies targeting interventions for the specific type and clinical stage of CRPS are needed.

Black American individuals have a higher rate of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) diagnoses compared to other racial/ethnic groups, and their family caregiver population is expected to increase rapidly over the next 2 decades. The current study aimed to explore Black American women's experiences caring for family members with ADRD. An interpretative phenomenology approach was used to gain a deeper understanding of the caregiving experiences of Black American women. Participants in the study were all Black American married women aged 63 to 81 years (mean = 71.3 years, SD = 6.6 years). Key themes that emerged from the study included: (a) Family Care Obligation, (b) Caregiving Journey, (c) Prioritizing Health Concerns, (d) Coping Behaviors, and (e) Support Needs and Challenges. Family caregivers require ongoing support, education, and guidance. Implications for nursing practice include focusing on family assessments, increased education and awareness, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to provide the best resources. BACKGROUND: Health authorities are near universal in their recommendation to replace sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) with water. Non-nutritive sweetened beverages (NSBs) are not as widely recommended as a replacement strategy due to a lack of established benefits and concerns they may induce glucose intolerance through changes in the gut microbiome. The STOP Sugars NOW trial aims to assess the effect of the substitution of NSBs (the "intended substitution") versus water (the "standard of care substitution") for SSBs on glucose tolerance and microbiota diversity. DESIGN AND METHODS: The STOP Sugars NOW trial (NCT03543644) is a pragmatic, "head-to-head", open-label, crossover, randomized controlled trial conducted in an outpatient setting. Participants were overweight or obese adults with a high waist circumference who regularly consumed ≥1 SSBs daily. Each participant completed three 4-week treatment phases (usual SSBs, matched NSBs, or water) in random order, which were separated by ≥4-week washout. Blocked randomization was performed centrally by computer with allocation concealment. Outcome assessment was blinded; however, blinding of participants and trial personnel was not possible. The two primary outcomes are oral glucose tolerance (incremental area under the curve) and gut microbiota beta-diversity (weighted UniFrac distance). Secondary outcomes include related markers of adiposity and glucose and insulin regulation. Adherence was assessed by objective biomarkers of added sugars and non-nutritive sweeteners and self-report intake. A subset of participants was included in an Ectopic Fat sub-study in which the primary outcome is intrahepatocellular lipid (IHCL) by 1H-MRS. Analyses will be according to the intention to treat principle. BASELINE RESULTS: Recruitment began on 1 June 2018, and the last participant completed the trial on 15 October 2020. We screened 1086 participants, of whom 80 were enrolled and randomized in the main trial and 32 of these were enrolled and randomized in the Ectopic Fat sub-study. The participants were predominantly middle-aged (mean age 41.8 ± SD 13.0 y) and had obesity (BMI of 33.7 ± 6.8 kg/m2) with a near equal ratio of female: male (51%:49%). The average baseline SSB intake was 1.9 servings/day. SSBs were replaced with matched NSB brands, sweetened with either a blend of aspartame and acesulfame-potassium (95%) or sucralose (5%). CONCLUSIONS: Baseline characteristics for both the main and Ectopic Fat sub-study meet our inclusion criteria and represent a group with overweight or obesity, with characteristics putting them at risk for type 2 diabetes. Findings will be published in peer-reviewed open-access medical journals and provide high-level evidence to inform clinical practice guidelines and public health policy for the use NSBs in sugars reduction strategies. Successful sexual reproduction relies on the coordination of multiple biological systems, yet traditional concepts of biological sex often ignore the natural plasticity in morphology and physiology underlying sex. Most female mammals develop a patent (i.e., opened) vaginal entrance (introitus) prenatally or postnatally before or during puberty, usually under the influence of estrogens, and remain patent for the remainder of their lifespan1. An exception is the southern African giant pouched rat (Cricetomys ansorgei), whose vaginal introitus remains sealed well into adulthood2. Here, we explore this phenomenon and report that the reproductive organs and the vaginal introitus can undergo astounding and reversible transformation. Non-patency is characterized by reduced uterine size and the presence of a sealed vaginal introitus. Furthermore, the female urine metabolome shows that patent and non-patent females profoundly differ in their urine content, a reflection of differences in physiology and metabolism. Surprisingly, patency state did not predict fecal estradiol or progesterone metabolite concentrations. Exploring the plasticity that exists in reproductive anatomy and physiology can uncover that traits long considered 'fixed' in adulthood can become plastic under specific evolutionary pressures. Moreover, the barriers to reproduction that such plasticity creates present unique challenges to maximizing reproductive potential.

INTRODUCTION: Healthy default beverage laws are relatively new interventions designed to improve the healthfulness of children's meals in restaurants. In this study, researchers assessed adherence to healthy default beverage laws among children's meals ordered online in Los Angeles (California statewide law effective from September 2018), Baltimore (effective from April 2018), and New York City (effective from April 2019) compared with that in Boston, where no law existed. METHODS: Between November and December 2020, researchers ordered children's meals from online ordering platforms (e.g., GrubHub, Uber Eats) from the top-grossing restaurant chains in each location (n=337 meal orders from 106 restaurants), coded these meals using four successively stricter definitions of adherence to the default beverage laws in each respective jurisdiction, and then applied each law to data collected in Boston to simulate different policy scenarios in a city with no such law. The team analyzed these data in late 2021. RESULTS: Differences in adherence existed across jurisdictions, with 15% adherent in Los Angeles, 30% in Baltimore, and 43% in New York City, compared with 7%-30% in Boston, using the most lenient definition of adherence. Fewer than 3% of all meals adhered to laws when applying the strictest definition of adherence. CONCLUSIONS: Overall adherence was low and variable across jurisdictions. Adherence may be lower in jurisdictions with fewer allowable default beverages, although more research is needed to assess this potential causal relation. In addition to increased resources and support for restaurants, additional policy design considerations may be necessary to increase adherence to healthy default beverage laws.

The opportunistic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus causes a set of diseases ranging from allergy to lethal invasive mycosis. Within the human airways, A. fumigatus is embedded in a biofilm that forms not only a barrier against the host immune defense system, but also creates a physical barrier protecting the fungi from chemicals such as antifungal drugs. Novel therapeutic strategies aim at combining drugs that inhibit biofilm synthesis or disrupt existing biofilm with classical antimicrobials. One of the major constituents of A. fumigatus biofilm is the polysaccharide galactosaminogalactan (GAG) composed of α1,4-linked N-acetylgalactosamine, galactosamine, and galactose residues. GAG is synthesized on the cytosolic face of the plasma membrane and is extruded in the extracellular space, where it is partially deacetylated. The deacetylase Agd3 that mediates this last step is essential for the biofilm formation and full virulence of the fungus. In this work, a previously described enzyme-linked lectin assay, based on the adhesion of deacetylated GAG to negatively charged plates and quantification with biotinylated soybean agglutinin was adapted to screen microbial natural compounds, as well as compounds identified in in silico screening of drug libraries. Actinomycin X2, actinomycin D, rifaximin, and imatinib were shown to inhibit Agd3 activity in vitro. At a concentration of 100 µM, actinomycin D and imatinib showed a clear reduction in the biofilm biomass without affecting the fungal growth. Finally, imatinib reduced the virulence of A. fumigatus in a Galleria mellonella infection model in an Agd3-dependent manner.

BACKGROUND: Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) providing excess energy increase adiposity. The effect of other food sources of sugars at different energy control levels is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To determine the effect of food sources of fructose-containing sugars by energy control on adiposity. METHODS: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched through April 2022 for controlled trials ≥2 wk. We prespecified 4 trial designs by energy control: substitution (energy-matched replacement of sugars), addition (energy from sugars added), subtraction (energy from sugars subtracted), and ad libitum (energy from sugars freely replaced). Independent authors extracted data. The primary outcome was body weight. Secondary outcomes included other adiposity measures. Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to assess the certainty of evidence. RESULTS: We included 169 trials (255 trial comparisons, n = 10,357) assessing 14 food sources at 4 energy control levels over a median 12 wk. Total fructose-containing sugars increased body weight (MD: 0.28 kg; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.50 kg; PMD = 0.011) in addition trials and decreased body weight (MD: -0.96 kg; 95% CI: -1.78, -0.14 kg; PMD = 0.022) in subtraction trials with no effect in substitution or ad libitum trials. There was interaction/influence by food sources on body weight: substitution trials [fruits decreased; added nutritive sweeteners and mixed sources (with SSBs) increased]; addition trials [dried fruits, honey, fruits (≤10%E), and 100% fruit juice (≤10%E) decreased; SSBs, fruit drink, and mixed sources (with SSBs) increased]; subtraction trials [removal of mixed sources (with SSBs) decreased]; and ad libitum trials [mixed sources (with/without SSBs) increased]. GRADE scores were generally moderate. Results were similar across secondary outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Energy control and food sources mediate the effect of fructose-containing sugars on adiposity. The evidence provides a good indication that excess energy from sugars (particularly SSBs at high doses ≥20%E or 100 g/d) increase adiposity, whereas their removal decrease adiposity. Most other food sources had no effect, with some showing decreases (particularly fruits at lower doses ≤10%E or 50 g/d). Despite the effectiveness of influenza vaccination, the vaccine coverage rate among high-risk groups in Hong Kong is less than optimal. Guided by the Health Belief Model (HBM) and culture-centric narrative approach, we examined the role of cultural specificities in implicit assumptions held by at-risk individuals when the individuals decided whether to receive the vaccine. Data were collected from 29 in-depth interviews with people from high-risk groups in Hong Kong. From their decision narratives, it is evident that the local socio-cultural characteristics and collectivistic ideology are useful in understanding the perceptions of influenza severity, susceptibility to infection, perceived barriers and benefits, and self-efficacy of accepting or rejecting the vaccine among the high-risk individuals. Implications of vaccination message designs are discussed.

CONTEXT: Excess calories from free sugars are implicated in the epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Honey is a free sugar but is generally regarded as healthy. OBJECTIVE: The effect of honey on cardiometabolic risk factors was assessed via a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled trials using the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) approach. DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched up to January 4, 2021, for controlled trials ≥1 week in duration that assessed the effect of oral honey intake on adiposity, glycemic control, lipids, blood pressure, uric acid, inflammatory markers, and markers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. DATA EXTRACTION: Independent reviewers extracted data and assessed risk of bias. Data were pooled using the inverse variance method and expressed as mean differences (MDs) with 95%CIs. Certainty of evidence was assessed using GRADE. DATA ANALYSIS: A total of 18 controlled trials (33 trial comparisons, N = 1105 participants) were included. Overall, honey reduced fasting glucose (MD = -0.20 mmol/L, 95%CI, -0.37 to -0.04 mmol/L; low certainty of evidence), total cholesterol (MD = -0.18 mmol/L, 95%CI, -0.33 to -0.04 mmol/L; low certainty), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = -0.16 mmol/L, 95%CI, -0.30 to -0.02 mmol/L; low certainty), fasting triglycerides (MD = -0.13 mmol/L, 95%CI, -0.20 to -0.07 mmol/L; low certainty), and alanine aminotransferase (MD = -9.75 U/L, 95%CI, -18.29 to -1.21 U/L; low certainty) and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = 0.07 mmol/L, 95%CI, 0.04-0.10 mmol/L; high certainty). There were significant subgroup differences by floral source and by honey processing, with robinia honey, clover honey, and raw honey showing beneficial effects on fasting glucose and total cholesterol. CONCLUSION: Honey, especially robinia, clover, and unprocessed raw honey, may improve glycemic control and lipid levels when consumed within a healthy dietary pattern. More studies focusing on the floral source and the processing of honey are required to increase certainty of the evidence.
