RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication of pregnancy, with significant short-term and long-term implications for both mothers and their offspring. Previous studies have indicated the potential benefits of vitamin D in reducing the risk of GDM, yet little is known about this association in twin pregnancies. This study aimed to investigate maternal vitamin D status in the second trimester and examine its association with the risk of GDM in twin pregnancies. METHODS: We conducted a prospective cohort study based on data from the Chongqing Longitudinal Twin Study (LoTiS). Peripheral blood serum was collected from the mothers in the second trimester to measure 25(OH)D concentrations. GDM was diagnosed at 23-26 weeks of gestation using a 75-g 2-h oral glucose tolerance test. We used multivariable logistic regression analyses to examine the correlations between vitamin D status and the risk of GDM. RESULTS: Of the total participants, 93 (29.9%) women were diagnosed with GDM. The mean serum 25(OH)D concentration in the second trimester was 31.1 ± 11.2 ng/mL, and the rate of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency were 23.5% and 18.7%, respectively. Compared to women with a 25(OH)D concentration < 30 ng/mL, those with a 25(OH)D concentration ≥ 30 ng/mL had a significantly lower risk of GDM (RR 0.61; 95% CI: 0.43, 0.86), especially those who were overweight before pregnancy (RR 0.32; 95% CI: 0.16, 0.64). The restricted cubic splines model showed an inverted J-shaped relationship between vitamin D concentrations and GDM risk. CONCLUSIONS: The risk of GDM was significantly reduced in twin pregnant women with vitamin D concentrations ≥ 30 ng/mL in the second trimester. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ChiCTR-OOC-16,008,203. RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: The number of cancer survivors continues to increase because of advances in therapeutic modalities. Along with surgery and chemotherapy, radiotherapy is a commonly used treatment modality in roughly half of all cancer patients. It is particularly helpful in the oncologic treatment of patients with breast, head and neck, and prostate malignancies. Unfortunately, among patients receiving radiation therapy, long-term sequalae are often unavoidable, and there is accumulating clinical evidence suggesting significant radiation-related damage to the vascular endothelium. Ionizing radiation has been known to cause obliterative fibrosis and increased wall thickness in irradiated blood vessels. Clinically, these vascular changes induced by ionizing radiation can pose unique surgical challenges when operating in radiated fields. Here, we review the relevant literature on radiation-induced vascular damage focusing on mechanisms and signaling pathways involved and highlight microsurgical anastomotic outcomes after radiotherapy. In addition, we briefly comment on potential therapeutic strategies, which may have the ability to mitigate radiation injury to the vascular endothelium.

RESUMEN

Background and objective: Quantitative changes in retinal microvasculature are associated with subclinical cardiac alterations and clinical cardiovascular diseases (i.e., heart failure and coronary artery disease). Nonetheless, very little is known about the retinal vascular and structural changes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Our study aims to characterize the microvasculature and structure of the retina in AF patients and explore their differences in different types of AF (paroxysmal and sustained AF). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Departments of Neurology and Cardiology in West China Hospital, Chengdu, China. Individuals aged 40 years or older with a diagnosis of AF were eligible for inclusion and underwent an evaluation and diagnosis confirmation before enrollment. Control individuals aged 40 years or older and without a history of AF, ocular abnormalities/disease, or any significant systemic illness were recruited. The retinal vascular and structural parameters were assessed using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT)/SS-OCT angiography. Echocardiographic data of left atrium (LA) diameter were collected in patients with AF at the time of inclusion. Results: A total of 242 eyes of 125 participants [71 men (56.8%); mean (SD) age, 61.98 (8.73) years] with AF and 219 eyes of 111 control participants [53 men (47.7%); mean (SD) age, 62.31 (6.47) years] were analyzed. In our AF cohort, 71 patients with paroxysmal AF and 54 patients with sustained AF (i.e., persistent/permanent AF) were included. Decreased retinal microvascular perfusion (ß coefficient = -0.08; 95% CI, -0.14 to -0.03) and densities (ß coefficient = -1.86; 95% CI, -3.11 to -0.60) in superficial vascular plexus (SVC) were found in the eyes of the participants with AF. In regard to retinal structures, thinner ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL; ß coefficient = -2.34; 95% CI, -4.32 to -0.36) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thicknesses (ß coefficient = -0.63; 95% CI, -2.09 to -0.18) were observed in the eyes of the participants with AF. The retinal parameters did not significantly differ between paroxysmal and sustained AF (all P > 0.05). However, significant interactions were observed between LA diameter and AF subtypes with the perfusion and densities in SVC (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This study found that individuals with AF had decreased retinal vascular densities and perfusion in SVC, as well as thinner GCIPL and RNFL thickness compared with age- and sex-matched control participants. The differences of the retinal microvasculature in SVC between paroxysmal and sustained AF depend on the LA diameter. Given our findings, further longitudinal studies with our participants are of interest to investigate the natural history of retinal microvascular and structural changes in individuals across the clinical process of AF and AF subtypes.

RESUMEN

Meticulous understanding of the mechanisms underpinning mitral regurgitation in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients is crucial to optimize therapeutic strategies. The morphologic characteristics of mitral valves in atrial functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) patients with and without left ventricular (LV) dysfunction were evaluated by high volume rate (HVR) three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3D-TEE). In our study, 68 of 265 AF patients who underwent 3D-TEE were selected, including 36 patients with AF, FMR, and preserved LV function (AFMR group) and 32 patients with AF, FMR, and LV dysfunction (VFMR group). In addition, 36 fever patients without heart disease were included in the control group. Group comparisons were performed by one-way analysis of variance for continuous variables. The left atrium (LA) was enlarged in the AFMR and VFMR groups compared with the control group. The mitral annulus (MA) in the AFMR group was enlarged and flattened compared with the control group and was smaller than in the VFMR group. The annulus area fraction was significantly diminished in the AFMR and VFMR groups, indicative of reduced MA contractility. The posterior mitral leaflet (PML) angle was smallest in the AFMR group and largest in the control group, whereas the distal anterior mitral leaflet angle did not significantly differ among the three groups. LA remodeling causes expansion of the MA and reduced MA contractility, disruption of the annular saddle shape, and atriogenic PML tethering. Comparison of atrial FMR patients with and without LV dysfunction indicates that atriogenic PML tethering is an important factor that aggravates FMR. HVR 3D-TEE improves the 3D temporal resolution greatly.

RESUMEN

The heart is one of the major organs affected by microwave radiation, and these effects have been extensively studied. Previous studies have shown that microwave-radiation-induced heart injury might be related to the abnormal expression and distribution of Cx43. In order to make the research model closer to humans, we used iPSC-CMs as the cell injury model to investigate the biological effect and mechanism of iPSC-CM injury after microwave radiation. To model the damage, iPSC-CMs were separated into four groups and exposed to single or composite S-band (2.856 GHz) and X-band (9.375 GHz) microwave radiation sources with an average power density of 30 mW/cm2. After that, FCM was used to detect cell activity, and ELISA was used to detect the contents of myocardial enzymes and injury markers in the culture medium, and it was discovered that cell activity decreased and the contents increased after radiation. TEM and SEM showed that the ultrastructure of the cell membrane, mitochondria, and ID was damaged. Mitochondrial function was aberrant, and glycolytic capacity decreased after exposure. The electrical conduction function of iPSC-CM was abnormal; the conduction velocity was decreased, and the pulsation amplitude was reduced. Wb, qRT-PCR, and IF detections showed that the expression of Cx43 was decreased and the distribution of Cx43 at the gap junction was disordered. Single or composite exposure to S- and X-band microwave radiation caused damage to the structure and function of iPSC-CMs, primarily affecting the cell membrane, mitochondria, and ID. The composite exposure group was more severely harmed than the single exposure group. These abnormalities in structure and function were related to the decreased expression and disordered distribution of Cx43.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Cancer is currently the second leading cause of death in the United States. There is increasing evidence that the tumor microenvironment (TME) is pivotal for tumorigenesis and metastasis. Recently, adipocytes and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the TME have been shown to play a major role in tumorigenesis of different cancers, specifically melanoma. Animal studies have shown that CAFs and adipocytes within the TME help tumors evade the immune system, for example, by releasing chemokines to blunt the effectiveness of the host defense. Although studies have identified that adipocytes and CAFs play a role in tumorigenesis, adipocyte transition to fibroblast within the TME is fairly unknown. This review intends to elucidate the potential that adipocytes may have to transition to fibroblasts and, as part of the TME, a critical role that CAFs may play in affecting the growth and invasion of tumor cells. Future studies that illuminate the function of adipocytes and CAFs in the TME may pave way for new antitumor therapies.

RESUMEN

Importance: Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) is a severe hypersensitivity reaction. Identifying a culprit drug is critical for patient care, yet identification is based on clinical judgment. Data are limited on the accuracy in or approach to identifying a culprit drug. Objective: To evaluate patient allergy list outcomes, current approaches in identifying culprit drugs, and potential methods of improving culprit drug identification. Design, Setting, and Participants: This retrospective cohort study spanned 18 years (January 2000 to July 2018), was conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston), and included patients with clinically and histologically confirmed cases of SJS/TEN overlap and TEN. Main Outcomes and Measures: This study descriptively analyzed potential culprits to SJS/TEN, patients' allergy lists, and currently used approaches that led to those lists. It then tested the theoretical contribution of incorporating various parameters to allergy list outcomes. Results: Of 48 patients (29 women [60.4%]; 4 Asian [8.3%], 6 Black [12.5%], 5 Hispanic [10.4%], and 25 White [52.1%] individuals; median age, 40 years [range, 1-82 years]), the mean (SD) number of drugs taken per patient at disease onset was 6.5 (4.7). Physicians labeled 17 patients as allergic to a single culprit drug. Comparatively, 104 drugs were added to allergy lists across all patients. Physicians' approaches relied largely on heuristic identification of high-notoriety drugs and the timing of drug exposure. Use of a vetted database for drug risk improved sensitivity. Algorithm for Drug Causality for Epidermal Necrolysis scoring was discordant in 28 cases, labeling an additional 9 drugs missed by physicians and clearing 43 drugs labeled as allergens by physicians. Human leukocyte antigen testing could have potentially affected 20 cases. Consideration of infection as a culprit was limited. Conclusions and Relevance: The results of this cohort study suggest that currently used approaches to identify culprit drugs in SJS/TEN are associated with overlabeling patients allergic to likely nonculprit drugs and less commonly missed possible culprit drugs. Incorporation of a systematized unbiased approach could potentially improve culprit drug identification, although ultimately a diagnostic test is necessary.

RESUMEN

Background and objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to dementia risk, partly explained by cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). Since AF and cardiovascular comorbidities were associated with cardiac dysfunction, we aimed to determine the association between echocardiographic parameters and neuroimaging markers of CSVD in patients with AF-related ischemic stroke. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with AF-related ischemic stroke from March 2013 to December 2019 who underwent transthoracic echocardiography and brain 3T MRI, including T1, T2, Flair, and SWI imaging sequences. We assessed the presence of lacunes and cerebellar microbleeds (CMBs), the severity of white matter hyperintensity (WMH) scored by the Fazekas scale (0-6), and the severity of enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) in basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CSO) classified into three categories (0-10, 10-25, and >25). CSVD burden was rated on a 0-to-4 ordinal scale. Generalized linear regression analysis and post hoc comparisons with Bonferroni correction were performed to assess the association between various echocardiographic parameters and these lesions, adjusted for demographics and potential confounders. Results: 119 patients (68.38 ± 12.692 years; male 45.4 %) were included for analysis, of whom 55 (46.2%) had lacunes, 40 (33.6%) had CMBs, and median severity for WMH, BG-EPVS, CSO-EPVS, and CSVD burden were 2 (IQR: 1-3), 1 (IQR: 1-2), 1 (IQR: 0-1), and 1 (IQR: 1-2) respectively. In multivariable, fully adjusted models, left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPW) was associated with a higher risk of lacunes (RR 1.899, 95% CI: 1.342-2.686) and CSVD burden (RR = 2.081, 95%CI: 1.562-2.070). Right atrial diameter (RAD) was associated with greater CSO-EPVS (RR = 2.243, 95%CI: 1.234-4.075). No echocardiographic parameters were revealed to be associated with CMBs and WMH. Conclusion: In patients with AF-related ischemic stroke, LVPW is associated with a higher risk of lacunes and CSVD burden, while RAD was associated with greater CSO-EPVS. Larger studies are required to determine these associations and to elucidate if these associations can help facilitate cognitive evaluation and brain MRI screening.

RESUMEN

Electromagnetic waves are widely used in both military and civilian fields, which could cause long-term and high-power exposure to certain populations and may pose a health hazard. The aim of this study was to simulate the long-term and high-power working environment of workers using special electromagnetic radiation occupations to clarify the radiation-induced stress response and cardiac damage and thus gain insights into the mechanisms of injuries caused by electromagnetic radiation. In this study, the combination of microwave and stress was an innovative point, aiming to broaden the research direction with regard to the effect and mechanism of cardiac injury caused by radiation. The myocardial structure was observed by optical and transmission electron microscope, mitochondrial function was detected by flow cytometry, oxidative-stress markers were detected by microplate reader, serum stress hormone was detected by radioimmunoassay, and heart rate variability (HRV) was analyzed by multichannel-physiological recorder. The rats were weighed and subjected to an open field experiment. Western blot (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF) were used to detect the expressions and distributions of JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase), p-JNK (phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase), HSF1 (heat shock factor), and NFATc4 (nuclear factor of activated T-cell 4). This study found that radiation could lead to the disorganization, fragmentation, and dissolution of myocardial fibers, severe mitochondrial cavitation, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative-stress injury in myocardium, increase to stress hormone in serum, significant changes in HRV, and a slow gain in weight. The open field experiment indicated that the rats experienced anxiety and depression and had decreased exercise capacity after radiation. The expressions of JNK, p-JNK, HSF1, and NFATc4 in myocardial tissue were all increased. The above results suggested that 30 mW/cm2 of S-band microwave radiation for 35 min could cause both physiological and psychological stress damage in rats; the damage was related to the activation of the JNK pathway, which provided new ideas for research on protection from radiation.

RESUMEN

The two primary pathological alterations of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), a rare cyanotic congenital heart disease (CHD), are right heart failure and pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). The timing and prognosis of surgery depend on the level of pulmonary hypertension. Surgery will not be an option after Eisenmenger syndrome appears. In light of this, it is crucial to assess patients' PAH. In order to aid in the following treatment of related types of diseases, this article studied and compared the echocardiographic features and disease development of one adult and one child TAPVC patients complicated with PAH.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the co-existence of gestational diabetes (GDM) and hypertension disorders of pregnancy (HDP) on neonatal outcomes in twin pregnancies based on chorionicity. METHODS: A retrospective study of 1398 women with twin pregnancies was performed between January 2016 and December 2021. The effects of GDM and HDP on neonatal outcomes were assessed by logistic regression models. An additional stratified analysis was conducted to estimate the effects based on chorionicity (monochorionic (MC) and dichorionic (DC)). RESULTS: The incidence of the co-existence of GDM and HDP was 3.8%. The presence of GDM increased the likelihood of HDP only in women with MC twin pregnancies (OR, 2.13; 95% CI 1.08-4.19). After adjustments, co-existence of GDM and HDP was positively associated with gestational age (ß, 1.06; 95% CI 0.43-1.69) and birthweight (ß, 174.90; 95% CI 8.91-340.89) in MC twin pregnancies, while no associations were found between co-existence of GDM and HDP and neonatal outcomes in DC twin pregnancies. However, HDP was negatively associated with birthweight (ß, -156.97; 95% CI (-257.92, -56.02)) and positively associated with small-for-gestational-age (SGA) (OR, 2.03; 95% CI 1.02-4.03) and discordant twins (OR, 2.83; 95% CI 1.78-4.48) in DC twin pregnant women without GDM. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggested that GDM leads to an increased risk of HDP only in MC twin pregnancies, but GDM seemed to attenuate the adverse effects of HDP on perinatal outcomes in both MC and DC twin pregnancies. Further investigation is needed to explain these intriguing findings.

RESUMEN

Cardiovascular medicine patients have complex conditions and rapid progress. They will cause a variety of complications during the illness and are difficult to care for. In addition, the above departments have many treatment tools, complex nursing points, and nursing risks. Scientific risk management should be carried out to avoid the occurrence of adverse events. Existing studies incorporating nursing risk management into cardiovascular health care are incomplete. This paper aims to explore the analysis and research methods of nursing cardiovascular medicine applications and effects evaluation based on nursing risk management and deep learning. Through the observation and experiment of grouping 100 cardiovascular medicine patients in a hospital, the total satisfaction degree of the experimental group reached 90%, and the control group was only 48%, which is quite different in comparison. The factors affecting the occurrence of nursing risk have the characteristics of multiplicity, instability, and uncertainty. Therefore, in order to improve the nursing effect and the rescue rate, it is imperative to strengthen the nursing risk management and, at the same time, reduce the patient's physical pain and nursing risk.

RESUMEN

Clinically, drug-induced torsades de pointes (TdP) are rare events, whereas the reduction of the human ether-à-go-go-related gene (hERG) current is common. In this study, we aimed to explore the specific factors that contribute to the deterioration of hERG inhibition into malignant ventricular arrhythmias. Cisapride, a drug removed from the market because it caused long QT (LQT) syndrome and torsade de pointes (TdP), was used to induce hERG inhibition. The effects of cisapride on the hERG current were evaluated using a whole-cell patch clamp. Based on the dose-response curve of cisapride, models of its effects at different doses (10, 100, and 1,000 nM) on guinea pig heart in vitro were established. The effects of cisapride on electrocardiogram (ECG) signals and QT interval changes in the guinea pigs were then comprehensively evaluated by multi-channel electrical mapping and high-resolution fluorescence mapping, and changes in the action potential were simultaneously detected. Cisapride dose-dependently inhibited the hERG current with a half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 32.63 ± 3.71 nM. The complete hERG suppression by a high dose of cisapride (1,000 nM) prolonged the action potential duration (APD), but not early after depolarizations (EADs) and TdP occurred. With 1 µM cisapride and lower Mg2+/K+, the APD exhibited triangulation, dispersion, and instability. VT was induced in two of 12 guinea pig hearts. Furthermore, the combined administration of isoproterenol was not therapeutic and increased susceptibility to ventricular fibrillation (VF) development. hERG inhibition alone led to QT and ERP prolongation and exerted an anti-arrhythmic effect. However, after the combination with low concentrations of magnesium and potassium, the prolonged action potential became unstable, triangular, and dispersed, and VT was easy to induce. The combination of catecholamines shortened the APD, but triangulation and dispersion still existed. At this time, VF was easily induced and sustained.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of heat shock protein 72 (Hsp72) changes in cardiac injury caused by microwave radiation, aimed at providing novel insights into the mechanism of this damage. A digital thermometer was used to measure the rectal temperature of the rats' pre- and post-radiation. On the 1st, 7th, 14th, and 28th days post-radiation, the changes in electrocardiogram (ECG) were analyzed by a multi-channel physiological recorder. The myocardial enzyme activities and ion concentrations were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. Additionally, the levels of myocardial injury markers were established by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and those of hormones were measured by radioimmunoassay. The structure and ultrastructure of the myocardial tissue were observed using an optical microscope and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The expression of Hsp72 was measured by Western blot and immunofluorescence analyses. Post-exposure, the rectal temperature in the R-group increased significantly, ECG was disordered, and the concentrations of ions were decreased. Furthermore, the activities of myocardial enzymes were changed, and the contents of myocardial injury markers and hormones were increased. We observed damage to the structure and ultrastructure and significantly increased expression of Hsp72. As a whole, the results indicated that S-wave microwave radiation at 30 mW/cm2 for 35 min resulted in damage to the cardiac functionality organigram, caused by a combination of the thermal and nonthermal effects.

RESUMEN

Spatial and temporal variations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) deposition fluxes and sources may significantly facilitate risk evaluation and pollution control of super megacity in China. A study on PAHs of wet and dry deposition in Shanghai was conducted from January to December of 2019. Seventeen sampling sites located in four functional areas were set, including the Baoshan iron and steel industry area (BS), Jinshan petrochemical industry area (JS), city center (CC), and Chongming agricultural area (CM). A total of 15 PAHs were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS, Agilent 7890A/5975C). PAHs atmospheric deposition flux in winter was highest (3.12 ± 1.98 µg/(m2·day), mostly attributed to local emissions accumulation under adverse meteorological diffusion conditions, as well as pollutants transport from northern China during heating season. PAHs deposition fluxes in industrial area (BS and JS) were 3.75 ± 4.08 µg/(m2·day) and 3.18 ± 3.62 µg/(m2·day) respectively, which were greater than those in CC and CM, accounting for 1.91 ± 1.06 µg/(m2·day) and 1.41 ± 0.61 µg/(m2·day) respectively. Proportional composition and isomer ratios of PAHs indicated that the PAHs deposition in winter and spring samples were more homogeneous, whereas those of summer and autumn seemed to be more variable and dispersed. Positive matrix factorization model were employed to identify the potential sources of PAHs in specific functional areas. A dominance of contribution was attributed to coal combustion (46%) at BS, petroleum volatilization (48%) at JS, biomass burning (55%) at CM, and vehicle emission (49%) at CC. This study highlighted that local urbanization and industrialization have a significant contribution to PAHs deposition to specific functional regions in Shanghai.

RESUMEN

The quadratic minimum spanning tree problem (QMSTP) is a spanning tree optimization problem that considers the interaction cost between pairs of edges arising from a number of practical scenarios. This problem is NP-hard, and therefore there is not a known polynomial time approach to solve it. To find a close-to-optimal solution to the problem in a reasonable time, we present for the first time a clustering-enhanced memetic algorithm (CMA) that combines four components, i.e., (i) population initialization with clustering mechanism, (ii) a tabu-based nearby exploration phase to search nearby local optima in a restricted area, (iii) a three-parent combination operator to generate promising offspring solutions, and (iv) a mutation operator using Lévy distribution to prevent the population from premature. Computational experiments are carried on 36 benchmark instances from 3 standard sets, and the results show that the proposed algorithm is competitive with the state-of-the-art approaches. In particular, it reports improved upper bounds for the 25 most challenging instances with unproven optimal solutions, while matching the best-known results for all but 2 of the remaining instances. Additional analysis highlights the contribution of the clustering mechanism and combination operator to the performance of the algorithm.

Taking the Minhang District of Shanghai as a typical rapidly urbanizing area, and based on 595 soil samples from 36 plots, the content of eight heavy metals in soils from five different land uses were analyzed. The ecological risk was evaluated using the Nemerow composite index and the potential ecological risk index. The results showed that the variation coefficients of the heavy metals Zn and Cd were highest, and were notably affected by human activities. The content of heavy metals in industrial land soil was relatively high compared to residential land and cultivated land soils, and heavy metal content was lowest in public management and service land soil. The Nemerow composite index of Zn and Cd was high, corresponding to severe and moderate levels of pollution, respectively. The other heavy metals were found at warning or light levels of pollution. The potential ecological risks posed by heavy metals in the soils from different land uses, in descending order, were heavy-metal-related industry land > non-heavy-metal-related industry land≈residential land > cultivated land≈public management and service land. Industrial land had a greater risk of heavy metal pollution due to industrial operations, complex historical production, and widely variable levels of management. Heavy metal accumulation also tended to occur in residential land and cultivated land soils. Therefore, the prevention of soil heavy metal pollution in association with different land uses, and the control of associated risks during redevelopment, are key challenges in rapidly urbanizing area.

RESUMEN

In order to explore the influence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) emissions by petrochemical enterprises on the surrounding environment, atmospheric deposition samples of the PAHs were collected in the industrial and residential areas adjacent to a petrochemical enterprise from March 2017 to February 2018. Deposition fluxes and the composition of PAHs were studied. The source of PAHs was analyzed by a positive matrix factor (PMF) model. The results showed that the deposition fluxes of Σ15 PAHs ranged from 549 ng·(m2·d)-1 to 18845 ng·(m2·d)-1, with an average of 2712 ng·(m2·d)-1. The flux of Σ15 PAHs in the industrial area was 1.36 times greater than that in the residential area. The deposition fluxes of PAHs in winter and spring were higher than those in summer and autumn. The deposition flux was highest in January in the industrial area and lowest in October in the residential area. Phe, BbF, and Fla were the dominant monomers. There was noticeable difference of monomers between the industrial area and the residential area in summer and autumn. The monomers, such as BbF, BkF, and BgP, in the residential area were higher than those in industrial area, and the proportion of 5, 6 rings was higher, which indicated that traffic contributed more to the residential area; 3 ring PAHs in industrial area had a higher proportion, which pointed out that their main source was petroleum volatilization. Based on the quantitative source analysis, the PAHs in atmospheric deposition were mainly from traffic emissions, petroleum volatilization, and coal combustion. Three sources of PAHs accounted for 45.7%, 18.4%, 35.9%, and 46.3%, 21.4%, and 32.3%, respectively, in the industrial area and the residential area in winter and spring. In summer and autumn, the contribution of traffic sources to the residential area was as high as 65.2%, and the proportion of the petroleum source to the industrial area increased to 35.5%. Due to high-altitude emissions and favorable diffusion conditions, the coal combustion contribution was significantly reduced.

RESUMEN

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare malignant tumor, which is prone to occur in teenagers DSRCT is a rare malignant tumor that often occurs in adolescents. Early diagnosis is difficult and the prognosis is poor. In this case report, the ultrasonography of DSRCT showed that the huge solid mass was in the abdomen with unclear boundary, irregular shape, insufficient blood supply but without obvious liquefaction and calcification. The masses encircled the vessels, but no evidence of vascular invasion. Intrahepatic metastases with peripheral hypoechoic aureole and abdominal lymph node metastases were observed. The tumor mass compressed adjacent tissues and organs, causing bilateral hydronephrosis and bone erosion. In a word, the ultrasonographic characteristics could be used for diagnosing the DSRCT in the clinic.
