RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To explore the mediating effect of hope in the relationships between social support and self-esteem with psychological resilience among patients with stroke survivors in early rehabilitation. METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was adopted. Data from a cross-sectional survey of 210 patients undergoing early stroke rehabilitation were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The variables of interest were measured using the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, the Herth Hope Index, and the Self-Esteem Scale. This article reports according to the STROBE checklist. RESULTS: A positive relationship was found between social support and psychological resilience (ß1 = 0.548), which was mediated by hope (ß2 = 0.114), and social support had significant direct effect on resilience (ß3 = 0.434). A positive relationship was also found between self-esteem and psychological resilience (ß4 = 0.380), which was mediated by hope (ß5 = 0.200), and self-esteem had significant direct effect on resilience (ß6 = 0.179). CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study, some strategies can be incorporated into the rehabilitation process to enhance psychological resilience, such as cultivating individual personality characteristics and improving patients' social relationships. In the future, we need to explore methods for improving psychological resilience among patients with stroke in combination with their risk factors to improve their quality of life and reduce the incidence of post-stroke depression.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the process of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients from achieving optimal efficacy to experiencing disease progression until death. It examines the predictive value of the treatment response on progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of SCLC patients. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis on 136 SCLC patients diagnosed from 1992 to 2018. Important prognostic factors were identified to construct nomogram models. The predictive performance of the models was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration curves. Survival differences between groups were compared using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Subsequently, an independent cohort consisting of 106 SCLC patients diagnosed from 2014 to 2021 was used for validation. Results: We constructed two nomograms to predict first-line PFS (PFS1) and OS of SCLC. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curves for the PFS1 nomogram predicting PFS at 3-, 6-, and 12-months were 0.919 (95% CI: 0.867-0.970), 0.908 (95% CI: 0.860-0.956) and 0.878 (95% CI: 0.798-0.958), and for the OS nomogram predicting OS at 6-, 12-, and 24-months were 0.814 (95% CI: 0.736-0.892), 0.819 (95% CI: 0.749-0.889) and 0.809 (95% CI: 0.678-0.941), indicating those two models with a high discriminative ability. The calibration curves demonstrated the models had a high degree of consistency between predicted and observed values. According to the risk scores, patients were divided into high-risk and low-risk groups, showing a significant difference in survival rate. And these findings were validated in another independent validation cohort. Conclusion: Based on the patients' treatment response after standardized treatment, we developed and validated two nomogram models to predict PFS1 and OS of SCLC. The models demonstrated good accuracy, reliability and clinical applicability by validating in an independent cohort.

Aims: This study aimed to examine the alterations in the serum CTRP7 and CTRP15 concentrations in patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to assess the diagnostic potential of the log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15) for insulin resistance (IR) and T2DM. Methods: Serum CTRP7, CTRP15, and adiponectin levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Bioinformatics analysis was conducted to investigate CTRP7 and CTRP15-related genes and metabolic signaling pathways. Results: Log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15) levels were notably elevated in the impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and T2DM cohorts compared with those in the normal control (NGT) cohort. Log10(CTRP7+CTRP15) exhibited positive correlations with HOMA-IR, area under the glucose curve (AUCg), HbA1c%, triglyceride (TG), visceral adiposity index (VAI), body mass index (BMI), and free fatty acid (FFA), levels but negative correlations with adiponectin. Multivariate stepwise regression analysis revealed that HOMA-IR, BMI, HbA1c and FFA levels were independent factors affecting the log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15). Logistic regression analysis revealed that log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15) was independently associated with T2DM and significantly associated with increased risk. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis indicated that the predictive value of log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15) for T2DM and IR was superior to that of CTRP7 or CTRP15 alone. Intervention studies demonstrated that insulin, FFAs and acute exercise contribute to the elevation of serum CTRP7 levels, while hyperglycemia inhibited CTRP7 secretion. Short-term changes in blood glucose, insulin, FFA and acute exercise had minimal effects on serum CTRP15 levels. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that CTRP7 and CTRP15 interact with multiple metabolism-related genes and are enriched in glucose and lipid metabolism-related pathways. Conclusion: Log10 (CTRP7+CTRP15) may serve as a valuable diagnostic marker for the management of metabolic-related diseases, particularly T2DM and IR.

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders among children. Pharmacotherapy has been the primary treatment for ADHD, supplemented by behavioral interventions. Digital and exercise interventions are promising nonpharmacologic approaches for enhancing the physical and psychological health of children with ADHD. However, the combined impact of digital and exercise therapies remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether BrainFit, a novel digital intervention combining gamified cognitive and exercise training, is efficacious in reducing ADHD symptoms and executive function (EF) among school-aged children with ADHD. METHODS: This 4-week prospective randomized controlled trial included 90 children (6-12 years old) who visited the ADHD outpatient clinic and met the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. The participants were randomized (1:1) to the BrainFit intervention (n=44) or a waitlist control (n=46) between March and August 2022. The intervention consisted of 12 30-minute sessions delivered on an iPad over 4 weeks with 3 sessions per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school) under the supervision of trained staff. The primary outcomes were parent-rated symptoms of attention and hyperactivity assessed according to the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham questionnaire (SNAP-IV) rating scale and EF skills assessed by the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) scale, evaluated pre and post intervention. Intention-to-treat analysis was performed on 80 children after attrition. A nonparametric resampling-based permutation test was used for hypothesis testing of intervention effects. RESULTS: Among the 145 children who met the inclusion criteria, 90 consented and were randomized; ultimately, 80 (88.9%) children completed the study and were included in the analysis. The participants' average age was 8.4 (SD 1.3) years, including 63 (78.8%) male participants. The most common ADHD subtype was hyperactive/impulsive (54/80, 68%) and 23 (29%) children had severe symptoms. At the endpoint of the study, the BrainFit intervention group had a significantly larger improvement in total ADHD symptoms (SNAP-IV total score) as compared to those in the control group (ß=-12.203, 95% CI -17.882 to -6.523; P<.001), owing to lower scores on the subscales Inattention (ß=-3.966, 95% CI -6.285 to -1.647; P<.001), Hyperactivity/Impulsivity (ß=-5.735, 95% CI -8.334 to -3.137; P<.001), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ß=-2.995, 95% CI -4.857 to -1.132; P=.002). The intervention was associated with significant reduction in the Metacognition Index (ß=-6.312, 95% CI -10.973 to -1.650; P=.006) and Global Executive Composite (ß=-5.952, 95% CI -10.214 to -1.690; P=.003) on the BRIEF. No severe intervention-related adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS: This novel digital cognitive-physical intervention was efficacious in school-age children with ADHD. A larger multicenter effectiveness trial with longer follow-up is warranted to confirm these findings and to assess the durability of treatment effects. Many marine organisms possess an essential capacity to produce secondary metabolites that exhibit toxic characteristics. A new polyhydroxy steroid, 24-methyl-5α-cholestane-24(28)-ene-3ß, 4ß, 6α, 7α, 8, 15ß, 16ß, 26-octol-6-O-sodium sulphate (1) was isolated from starfish (Asterina pectinifera), along with five polar steroid compounds (2-6) that were previously identified. NMR (1H and 13C NMR, 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY) and HR-ESI-MS were employed for structure elucidations. The embryotoxicity and teratogenicity of the isolated compounds were assessed using embryos of marine medaka (Oryzias melastigma). Compound 5 exhibited moderate embryotoxicity (96h-LC50: 65 µM).

A drug-resin liquid delayed-release suspension of pantoprazole sodium (PAZ-Na) was prepared to improve the effectiveness, convenience and safety of peptic ulcer treatment in children, the elderly and patients with dysphagia. Pantoprazole sodium drug-resin complexes (PAZ-Na-DRC) were prepared using the bath method. The fluidized bed coating method is used to coat it and then add excipients to make a dry suspension prepared before use. The parameters of the in vitro release experimental conditions were optimized and the drug release curve showed delayed release. Rats were given commercial PAZ-Na enteric-coated pellet capsules and the PAZ-Na delayed release suspension via intragastric administration. The results showed that the Tmax of the PAZ-Na delayed release suspension was increased from 2h to 4h compared with the PAZ-Na enteric-coated pellet capsules. Similarly, the Cmax was reduced from 6.162µg/mL to 3.244µg/mL with the concentration-time curve is very gentle compared with the commercial drug capsules. After oral administration, the relative bioavailability of PAZ-Na delayed release suspension (AUC0-24 of 19.578 µg•h•mL-1) compared with the commercial drug (AUC0-24 of 17.388 µg•h•mL-1) was 112.67%. The findings showed that the PAZ-Na delayed release suspension for oral administration was successfully formulated with highly improved pharmacokinetic indices.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the fusion rates of spinal interbody fusion in patients with modic changes (MCs). METHODS: This meta-analysis was registered at PROSPERO, and the project number was CRD42024538023. This network meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA 2020 statement. The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, ClinicalTrials.gov and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to March 28, 2024 for potential studies. STATA 13.0 and Review Manager 5.3 were used to perform the meta-analysis. RESULTS: Seven studies with a total of 1162 patients or segments assigned to four groups according to MCs grade were identified. The fusion rate in the non-modic changes (NMCs) was significantly greater than that in the MCs at the 3-month (p = 0.0001) and 6-month (p = 0.002) follow-ups. No significant difference was detected in the fusion rate at 12-month (p = 0.34) and final follow-ups (p = 0.41). No significant difference was found in cervical fusion (p = 0.88) or transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) (p = 0.51). The fusion rate of NMCs was significantly greater than that of MCs in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) (p < 0.00001). No significant differences were identified among the four groups in the overall comparison, cervical fusion or TLIF subgroups. The fusion rate in the NMCs was significantly greater than that in the MCs-2 and MCs-3 in the PLIF. CONCLUSION: MCs decreased the fusion rate at the 3- and 6-month follow-ups. MCs-2 and MCs-3 decrease the fusion rate in PLIF.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have inhibitory control deficits. The combination of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and inhibitory control training produces good transfer effects and improves neuroplasticity. However, no studies have explored whether applying tDCS over the dlPFC improves inhibitory control and produces transfer effects in children with ASD. OBJECTIVE: To explore whether multisession tDCS could enhance inhibitory control training (response inhibition), near-transfer (interference control) and far-transfer effects (sustained attention; stability of attention) in children with ASD and the generalizability of training effects in daily life and the class, as reflected by behavioral performance and neural activity measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). METHODS: Twenty-eight autistic children were randomly assigned to either the true or sham tDCS group. The experimental group received bifrontal tDCS stimulation at 1.5 mA, administered for 15 min daily across eight consecutive days. tDCS was delivered during a computerized Go/No-go training task. Behavioral performance in terms of inhibitory control (Dog/Monkey and Day/Night Stroop tasks), sustained attention (Continuous Performance and Cancellation tests), prefrontal cortex (PFC) neural activity and inhibitory control and sustained attention in the class and at home were evaluated. RESULTS: Training (response inhibition) and transfer effects (interference control; sustained attention) were significantly greater after receiving tDCS during the Go/No-go training task than after receiving sham tDCS. Changes in oxyhemoglobin (HbO) concentrations in the dlPFC and FPA associated with consistent conditions in the Day/Night Stroop and Continuous Performance test were observed after applying tDCS during the inhibitory control training task. Notably, transfer effects can be generalized to classroom environments. CONCLUSION: Inhibitory control training combined with tDCS may be a promising, safe, and effective method for improving inhibitory control and sustained attention in children with ASD.

Carbonic anhydrase (CA) has a promising application as a green and efficient biocatalyst for CO2 capture, and many successful cases of immobilizing CA have been reported. However, CA antifouling coatings on metal for CO2 sequestration have rarely been reported. Herein, dimeric CA from Sulfurihydrogenibium azorense (SazCA) with a ferritin tag, which was prepared by low-speed centrifugation with high yield, was adopted as a free enzyme and encapsulated in the sol-gel silica. The silica-immobilized CAs were dispersed into the commercialized metal-antifouling epoxy resin paint to obtain CA coated nickel foams, which had excellent stability, with 90 % and 67 % residual activity after 28 days of incubation at 30 °C and 60 °C, respectively. The CA coated nickel foams remained 60 % original activity after 6 cycles of use within 28 days. Then, a CA-microalgae carbon capture device was constructed using the CA coated nickel foams and Chlorella. The growth rate of Chlorella was significantly increased and the biomass of Chlorella increased by 29 % compared with control after 7 days of incubation. Due to the simple and cost-effective preparation process, sustainable and efficient CO2 absorption, this easy-to-scale up CA coated nickel foam has great potential in CA assisted microalgae-based CO2 capture and carbon neutrality.

A strained triple nanohoop with a shared central benzene unit is synthesized using a threefold intramolecular ring-closing approach. Among the five possible constitutional isomers, the isomer with the highest D3h symmetry is isolated, the structure of which contains three nanohoop blades and a central hexaphenylbenzene unit. The structure is elucidated using NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The optical and electrochemical properties are investigated, revealing a moderate fluorescence quantum yield of 40%. A water-soluble nanomaterial is prepared using a nanoparticle encapsulation method, and a fluorescence quantum yield of 10% is retained, which demonstrates the potential of the nanomaterial in biological systems.

Photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT) is a new technology that has multiple diagnostic benefits including increased spatial resolution, iodine signal, and radiation dose efficiency, as well as multi-energy imaging capability, but which also has unique challenges in abdominal imaging. The purpose of this work is to summarize key features, technical parameters, and terms, which are common amongst current abdominopelvic PCD-CT systems and to propose standardized terminology (where none exists). In addition, user-selectable protocol parameters are highlighted to facilitate both scientific evaluation and early clinical adoption. Unique features of PCD-CT systems include photon-counting detectors themselves, energy thresholds and bins, and tube potential considerations for preserved spectral separation. Key parameters for describing different PCD-CT systems are reviewed and explained. While PCD-CT can generate multi-energy images like dual-energy CT, there are new types of images such as threshold images, energy bin images, and special spectral images. The standardized terms and concepts herein build upon prior interdisciplinary consensus and have been endorsed by the newly created Society of Abdominal Radiology Photon-counting CT Emerging Technology Commission.

OBJECTIVES: Melanoma is highly malignant and heterogeneous. It is essential to develop a specific prognostic model for improving the patients' survival and treatment strategies. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis results from the overproduction of lipid peroxidation and is an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death. Despite this, ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) and their clinical significances remain unknown in malignant melanoma. This study aims to assess the role of FRGs in melanoma, with the goal of developing a novel prognostic model that provides new insights into personalized treatment and improvement of therapeutic outcomes for melanoma. METHODS: We systematically characterized the genetic alterations and mRNA expression of 73 FRGs in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) dataset in this study. The results were validated with real-time RT-PCR and Western blotting. Subsequently, a multi-gene feature model was constructed using the TCGA-SKCM cohort. Melanoma patients were classified into a high-risk group and a low-risk group based on the feature model. As a final step, correlations between ferroptosis-related signatures and immune features, immunotherapy efficacy, or drug response were analyzed. RESULTS: By analyzing melanoma samples from TCGA-SKCM dataset, FRGs exhibited a high frequency of genetic mutations and copy number variations (CNVs), significantly impacting gene expression. Additionally, compared with normal skin tissue, 30 genes with significantly differential expression were identified in melanoma tissues. A prognostic model related to FRGs, constructed using the LASSO Cox regression method, identified 13 FRGs associated with overall survival prognosis in patients and was validated with external datasets. Finally, functional enrichment and immune response analysis further indicated significant differences in immune cell infiltration, mutation burden, and hypoxia status between the high-risk group and the low-risk group, and the model was effective in predicting responses to immunotherapy and drug sensitivity. CONCLUSIONS: This study develops a strong ferroptosis-related prognostic signature model which could put forward new insights into target therapy and immunotherapy for patients with melanoma.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the genetic causes of agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) and assess the utility of karyotype analysis, copy number variation sequencing (CNV-seq), and whole-exome sequencing (WES) to genetically diagnose fetal ACC. METHODS: We retrospectively examined 40 fetuses diagnosed with ACC who underwent prenatal ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging between January 2019 and October 2023. Genetic tests were conducted on the fetuses using karyotype analysis or CNV-seq as the first-line diagnosis. WES was performed if aneuploid and pathogenic CNVs were excluded. RESULTS: Among the 40 fetuses, 29 (72 %) had non-isolated ACC and 11 (28 %) had isolated ACC. Cerebellar dysplasia and hydrocephalus were the most common abnormal developments in the central nervous system. Twenty-eight patients underwent karyotype analysis, with a detection rate of 14 % (4/28). Twenty-six patients underwent CNV-seq; three patients were found to have pathogenic CNVs, with a detection rate of 12 % (3/26). Thirty-three fetuses with no findings of karyotype analysis or CNV-seq were subsequently tested using WES, with a detection rate of 36 % (12/33). Overall, the total diagnostic yield was 48 % (19/40), and monogenic etiology accounted for 30 % (12/40). The genetic detection rate of fetal non-isolated ACC (62 %, 18/29) was higher than that of isolated ACC (9 %, 1/11). CONCLUSION: Prenatal genetic analysis of fetuses with ACC is clinically significant, with monogenic disorders being the main cause. WES may enhance the detection rate of fetuses with ACC with negative karyotype analysis or CNV-seq results.

The safety concerns surrounding lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have garnered increasing attention due to their potential to endanger lives and incur significant financial losses. However, the origins of battery failures are diverse, presenting significant challenges in developing safety measures to mitigate accidental catastrophes. In this study, the aging mechanism of LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2||graphite-based cylindrical 18,650 LIBs stored at room temperature for two years was investigated. It was found that an uneven distribution of electrolytes can be caused by gravity, leading to temperature variations within the battery. Specifically, it was observed that the temperature at the top of the battery was approximately -0.89 °C higher than at the bottom, correlating with an increase in partial internal resistance. Additionally, upon disassembly and analysis of spent batteries, the most significant damage to electrode materials at the top of the battery was observed. These findings suggest that gravity-induced electrolyte insufficiency exacerbates side reactions, particularly at the top of the battery. This study offers a unique perspective on the safety concerns associated with high-energy-density batteries in long-term and large-scale applications.

Vaccination is essential for preventing and controlling infectious diseases, along with reducing mortality. Developing safe and versatile adjuvants to enhance humoral and cellular immune responses to vaccines remains a key challenge in vaccine development. Here, we designed hierarchical mesoporous MOF-801 (HM801) using a Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) and a Pluronics F127 in an aqueous phase system. Meanwhile, we synthesized a novel SARS-CoV-2 nanovaccine (R@M@HM801) with a high loading capacity for both the STING agonist (MSA-2) and the Delta receptor binding domain (Delta-RBD) antigen. R@M@HM801 enhanced MSA-2 and RBD utilization and effectively co-delivered MSA-2 and RBD antigens to antigen-presenting cells in the draining lymph nodes, thereby promoting the activation of both T and B cells. Lymphocyte single-cell analysis showed that R@M@HM801 stimulated robust CD11b+CD4+ T cells, CXCR5+CD4+ T follicular helper (Tfh), and durable CD4+CD44+CD62L-, CD8+CD44+CD62L- effector memory T cell (TEM) immune responses, and promoted the proliferative activation of CD26+ B cells in vivo. Meanwhile, R@M@HM801 induced stronger specific antibodies and neutralization of pseudovirus against Delta compared to the RBD + MAS-2 and RBD + MAS-2 + Alum vaccines. Our study demonstrated the efficacy of a hierarchical mesoporous HM801 and its potential immune activation mechanism in enhancing adaptive immune responses against viruses and other diseases.

BACKGROUND: The repair of facial skin and soft tissue defects remains a clinical challenge. The author introduced a novel "table tennis racquet" random skin flap for wound repair after facial skin cancer excision and discussed its survival mechanisms. METHODS: A lateral mandibular neck skin flap shaped like a table tennis racquet with no well-known blood vessels at the narrow pedicle was designed in 31 cases to repair tissue defects. Among them, there were 8 cases of skin carcinoma in the frontotemporal area and 23 cases of skin carcinoma in the cheek. The flap area was 8.0 × 7.0 cm at maximum and 3.0 × 2.5 cm at minimum, with a pedicle width of 1.0-2.0 cm and a pedicle length of 2.0-6.0 cm. RESULTS: All 31 "table tennis racquet" random skin flaps survived, although there were 3 cases with delayed healing of distal flap bruising. All of them had an ideal local shape after repair with a concealed donor area and inconspicuous scars. CONCLUSIONS: This flap has a "table tennis racquet" shape with a pedicle without well-known blood vessels and has a length-to-width ratio that exceeds that of conventional random flaps, making it unconventional. Because of its long and narrow pedicle, it not only has a large rotation and coverage area but also can be designed away from the defect area, avoiding the defect of no donor tissue being localized near the defect. Overall, this approach is an ideal option for repairing tissue defects after enlarged excision of facial skin carcinoma.

In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of pleuromutilin derivatives containing thiazole. The in vitro antimicrobial efficacy of these synthesized compounds was examined by using four strains. Compared with tiamulin (MIC = 0.25 µg/mL), compound 14 exhibited potency in inhibiting MRSA growth (MIC = 0.0625 µg/mL) in these derivatives. Meanwhile, the time-killing kinetics further demonstrated that compound 14 could efficiently inhibit the MRSA growth. After exposure at 4 × MIC, the postantibiotic effect (PAE) of compound 14 was 1.29 h. Additionally, in thigh-infected mice, compound 14 exhibited a more potent antibacterial efficacy (-1.78 ± 0.28 log10 CFU/g) in reducing MRSA load compared to tiamulin (-1.21 ± 0.23 log10 CFU/g). Moreover, the MTT assay on RAW 264.7 cells demonstrated that compound 14 (8 µg/mL) had no significant cytotoxicity. Docking studies indicated the strong affinity of compound 14 toward the 50S ribosomal subunit, with a binding free energy of -9.63 kcal/mol. Taken together, it could be deduced that compound 14 was a promising candidate for treating MRSA infections.

Astragali Radix polysaccharides (APSs) exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activity, which is mainly related to immune regulation. At present, most available studies focus on total APSs or a certain component of APSs. However, structural structure study and screening for the anti-inflammatory activity of polysaccharides with different molecular weights (MW) have yet to be conducted. In this study, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 macrophages were used as a model to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of APSs and its fractions. The results revealed that fraction APS-I had better anti-inflammatory effects than APS-II. After APS-Ⅰ was hydrolyzed by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), the resulting degradation products oligosaccharides were fully methylated. These derivatized oligosaccharides were further analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS and UPLC-Q-Exactive-MS/MS. The results showed that APS-Ⅰ was a hetero-polysaccharide with a molecular weight of about 2.0 × 106 Da, mainly consisting of glucose (46.8%) and galactose (34.4%). The degree of polymerization of Astragali Radix oligosaccharides (APOS) was 2-16. APOS were identified as 1,4-glucooligosaccharides and 1,4-galactooligosaccharides. The findings of this study lay the foundation for further elucidation of structure-function relationships of APSs and provide guidance for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The loss of function after prolonged periods of use is inevitable for all materials including plastics. Hence, self-healing capabilities are a key development to prolong the service lifetime of materials. One of such self-healing capabilities can be achieved by integrating dynamic bonds such as boronic ester linkages into polymeric materials, however the rate of self-healing in these materials is insufficient and current methods to accelerate it are limited. In this study, we report the rational design, synthesis and characterization of a fluorinated elastomer (FBE15) that utilizes enhanced interaction between polymer chains afforded by strong dipole-dipole interactions from -CF3, which showed a significant increase in binding energy to -7.71 Kcal/mol from -5.51 Kcal/mol, resulting in increased interaction between the boronic ester linkages and improving self-healing capabilities of boronic ester materials, drastically reducing the time required for stress relaxation by 900 %. The bulk elastomer is capable of ultrafast self-healing in a one-click fashion that can happen in mere seconds, which can then be stretched to 150 % of its original length. By utilising the dynamic cross-linking, FBE15 is also capable of both mechanical reprocessing into the same materials and chemical recycling into its starting materials, respectively, further allowing reconstruction of the elastomers that have comparable properties to the original ones at the end of its service lifespan.
