To improve paste stability of cassava starch, including acid resistance, high-temperature shear resistance and freeze-thaw stability, cassava starch was modified by sequential maltogenic amylase and transglucosidase to form an optimally denser structure, or branched density (12.76 %), molecular density (15.17 g/mol/nm3), and the proportions of short-branched chains (41.41 % of A chains and 44.01 % of B1 chains). Viscosity stability (88.52 %) of modified starch was higher than that (64.92 %) of native starch. After acidic treatment for 1 h, the viscosity of modified starch and native starch decreased by 56.53 % and 65.70 %, respectively. Compared to native starch, modified starch had lower water loss in freeze-thaw cycles and less viscosity reduction during high-temperature and high-shear processing. So, the appropriate molecular density and denser molecule structure enhanced paste stabilities of modified starch. The outcome expands the food and non-food applications of cassava starch.

RESUMEN

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are most likely the main cause of lung cancer formation, metastasis, drug resistance, and genetic heterogeneity. Three-dimensional (3D) ex vivo cell culture models can facilitate stemness improvement and CSC enrichment. Considering the critical role of extracellular matrix (ECM) on CSC properties, the present study developed a thermo-responsive hydrogel using the porcine decellularized lung for 3D cell culture, and the cell-laden hydrogel culturing model was used to explore the CSC characteristics and potential utilization in CSC-specific drug evaluation. Results showed that the lung dECM hydrogel (LEH) was composed of the main ECM components and displayed excellent cellular compatibility. In addition, lung cancer cells 3D cultured in LEH displayed the overexpression of metastasis-related genes and enhanced migration properties, as compared with those in two-dimensional (2D) conditions. Notably, the CSC features, including the expression level of stemness-associated genes, colony formation capability, drug resistance, and the proportion of cancer stem-like cells (CD133+), were also enhanced in 3D cells. Furthermore, the attenuation effect of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on CSC properties in the 3D model was observed, confirming the potential practicability of the 3D culture on CSC-targeted drug screening. Overall, our results suggest that the fabricated LEH is an effective and facile platform for 3D cell culture and CSC-specific drug evaluation.

Powdery mildew and stripe rust are major diseases on wheat worldwide that cause significant reductions in wheat production. The ribosomal silencing factor (RsfS) has been proven to regulate protein biosynthesis by inhibiting the translation process in bacterial response to stress. However, the role of RsfS in plant resistance to biotic stresses remains unclear. In this study, the RsfS homolog, TaRsfS was isolated from wheat. Overexpression of TaRsfS (TaRsfS-OE) reduces wheat resistance to powdery mildew and stripe rust and TaRsfS knockout (TaRsfS-KO) increases wheat resistance to both diseases without affecting key agronomic traits. The interaction protein of TaRsfS, 12-oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase 1 (TaOPR1), a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of jasmonic acid (JA), was screened and identified. Knocking-down and overexpression of TaOPR1 indicated that TaOPR1 positively regulates wheat resistance to powdery mildew and stripe rust. TaRsfS may regulate TaOPR1 at upstream, bind to the enzyme activity pocket of TaOPR1 and affect TaOPR1 enzyme activity, resulting in a reduced JA biosynthesis and wheat susceptible to powdery mildew and stripe rust. Collectively, TaRsfS is a susceptibility gene and negatively regulates wheat resistance to powdery mildew and stripe rust, and it has good potential for improving wheat resistance by genetic modifications.

PURPOSE: The impacts of passive (i.e., browsing) versus active (i.e., engagement) use of social media on e-cigarette use among youth have been understudied in existing literature. This study examines how passive and active use of social media are differentially associated with e-cigarette use among youth and how risk perceptions mediate these associations. METHODS: Pooled data from the 2021 and 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey (N=48,704, aged 11-19) were used. Weighted structural equation models were employed to estimate the associations between passive and active social media use and youth e-cigarette use. RESULTS: Both passive and active social media use were associated with higher odds and more days of e-cigarette use among youth. E-cigarette risk perceptions mediated the associations between active use and both the likelihood of ever using e-cigarettes and the number of days of use. Risk perceptions mediated the association between active, but not passive, use and the number of days of e-cigarette use. Compared to passive use, active use was overall associated with higher odds and more days of youth e-cigarette use. DISCUSSION: The findings suggest that public health efforts should distinguish between passive and active social media use when designing and executing interventions. Attention and efforts should also be directed towards understanding the distinct indirect effects of passive and active social media use through risk perceptions. These findings advance our theoretical understanding of the role of different types of social media use and offer significant practical insights for interventions.

Rationale: Cardiomyocytes (CMs) undergo dramatic structural and functional changes in postnatal maturation; however, the regulatory mechanisms remain greatly unclear. Cypher/Z-band alternatively spliced PDZ-motif protein (ZASP) is an essential sarcomere component maintaining Z-disc stability. Deletion of mouse Cypher and mutation in human ZASP result in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Whether Cypher/ZASP participates in CM maturation and thereby affects cardiac function has not been answered. Methods: Immunofluorescence, transmission electron microscopy, real-time quantitative PCR, and Western blot were utilized to identify the role of Cypher in CM maturation. Subsequently, RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis predicted serum response factor (SRF) as the key regulator. Rescue experiments were conducted using adenovirus or adeno-associated viruses encoding SRF, both in vitro and in vivo. The molecular mechanisms were elucidated through G-actin/F-actin fractionation, nuclear-cytoplasmic extraction, actin disassembly assays, and co-sedimentation assays. Results: Cypher deletion led to impaired sarcomere isoform switch and morphological abnormalities in mitochondria, transverse-tubules, and intercalated discs. RNA-sequencing analysis revealed significant dysregulation of crucial genes related to sarcomere assembly, mitochondrial metabolism, and electrophysiology in the absence of Cypher. Furthermore, SRF was predicted as key transcription factor mediating the transcriptional differences. Subsequent rescue experiments showed that SRF re-expression during the critical postnatal period effectively rectified CM maturation defects and notably improved cardiac function in Cypher-depleted mice. Mechanistically, Cypher deficiency resulted in the destabilization of F-actin and a notable increase in G-actin levels, thereby impeding the nuclear localisation of myocardin-related transcription factor A (MRTFA) and subsequently initiating SRF transcription. Conclusion: Cypher/ZASP plays a crucial role in CM maturation through actin-mediated MRTFA-SRF signalling. The linkage between CM maturation abnormalities and the late-onset of DCM is suggested, providing further insights into the pathogenesis of DCM and potential treatment strategies.

PURPOSE: This study aims to develop radiomics models and a nomogram based on machine learning techniques, preoperative dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) images, clinical and pathological characteristics, to explore the tumor microenvironment (TME) of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). METHODS: We retrospectively recruited of 87 patients diagnosed with ccRCC through pathological confirmation from Center I (training set, n = 69; validation set, n = 18), and collected their DECT images and clinical information. Feature selection was conducted using variance threshold, SelectKBest, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO). Radiomics models were then established using 14 classifiers to predict TME cells. Subsequently, we selected the most predictive radiomics features to calculate the radiomics score (Radscore). A combined model was constructed through multivariate logistic regression analysis combining the Radscore and relevant clinical characteristics, and presented in the form of a nomogram. Additionally, 17 patients were recruited from Center II as an external validation cohort for the nomogram. The performance of the models was assessed using methods such as the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: The validation set AUC values for the radiomics models assessing CD8+, CD163+, and αSMA+ cells were 0.875, 0.889, and 0.864, respectively. Additionally, the external validation cohort AUC value for the nomogram reaches 0.849 and shows good calibration. CONCLUSION: Radiomics models could allow for non-invasive assessment of TME cells from DECT images in ccRCC patients, promising to enhance our understanding and management of the tumor.

AIMS: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are considered important regulators of biological processes, but their impact on atherosclerosis development, a key factor in coronary artery disease (CAD), has not been fully elucidated. We aimed to investigate their potential use in patients with CAD and the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: Patients with stable angina (SA) or acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and controls were selected for transcriptomic screening and quantification of circRNAs in blood cells. We stained carotid plaque samples for circRNAs and performed gain- and loss-of-function studies in vitro. Western blots, protein interaction analysis, and molecular approaches were used to perform the mechanistic study. ApoE-/- mouse models were employed in functional studies with adeno-associated virus-mediated genetic intervention. We demonstrated elevated circARCN1 expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with SA or ACS, especially in those with ACS. Furthermore, higher circARCN1 levels were associated with a higher risk of developing SA and ACS. We also observed elevated expression of circARCN1 in carotid artery plaques. Further analysis indicated that circARCN1 was mainly expressed in monocytes and macrophages, which was also confirmed in atherosclerotic plaques. Our in vitro studies provided evidence that circARCN1 affected the interaction between HuR and ubiquitin-specific peptidase 31 (USP31) mRNA, resulting in attenuated USP31-mediated NF-κB activation. Interestingly, macrophage accumulation and inflammation in atherosclerotic plaques were markedly decreased when circARCN1 was knocked down with adeno-associated virus in macrophages of ApoE-/- mice, while circARCN1 overexpression in the model exacerbated atherosclerotic lesions. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide solid evidence macrophagic-expressed circARCN1 plays a role in atherosclerosis development by regulating HuR-mediated USP31 mRNA stability and NF-κB activation, suggesting that circARCN1 may serve as a factor for atherosclerotic lesion formation.

This study investigates the role of dynamic fear in the effectiveness of communicating health threats (i.e. fear appeals) of ground-level ozone among Chinese citizens. An online survey revealed that fear appeal messages effectively enhance the audience's risk perceptions, efficacy beliefs, and acceptance of the message. Crucially, dynamic fear reduction process positively predicts engagement in protective behaviors (i.e. danger control process) and negatively predicts engagement in fear control processes, such as message denial. Presenting severity before susceptibility resulted in a more positive attitude toward the message recommendation. These findings highlight that communicating health-threats about climate pollution is effective in raising awareness and motivating protective behaviors. Furthermore, our study underscores the importance of dynamic fear, specifically fear reduction, in increasing fear appeals' effectiveness in communicating climate issues from a health perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Social media are important venues for youth's exposure to e-cigarette content. This study examined how exposure to user-generated e-cigarette content (i.e., content created and shared by individual social media users) is associated with vulnerabilities to e-cigarette use among youth non-users. METHODS: We pooled data from the 2021 and 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey. Youth who have never used e-cigarettes were included. Weighted linear and logistic regressions were conducted to examine how exposure to user-generated e-cigarette content (from real-life friends, online-only friends, and celebrities/influencers) on social media was associated with e-cigarette use vulnerabilities measured by perceived norms, perceived risk, and susceptibility of use, controlling for demographics, advertising exposure, and mental health conditions. Multiple imputations were performed to account for missing data. RESULTS: Exposure to e-cigarette content on social media posted by real-life friends, online-only friends, and celebrities/influencers were associated with more positive descriptive norm (ßs = 1.56, 0.37, and 0.35, respectively, all ps < .001), more positive injunctive norm (ßs = 0.46, 0.19, and 0.10, respectively, all ps < .001), and higher odds of e-cigarette use susceptibility (ORs = 1.48, 1.50. 1.29, respectively, all ps < .001). Exposure to content posted by real-life and online-only friends were associated with reduced risk perception of e-cigarette use (ß = -0.04, p < 0.05 and ß = -0.07, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our study highlighted that friends and celebrities/influencers are important sources on social media that can influence youth non-users' vulnerabilities to e-cigarette use. Interventional messages communicated through friends and influencers on social media may in turn help reduce e-cigarette vulnerability among youth non-users.

At present, the incidence of tumours is increasing on a yearly basis, and tumourigenesis is usually associated with chromosomal instability and cell cycle dysregulation. Moreover, abnormalities in the chromosomal structure often lead to DNA damage, further exacerbating gene mutations and chromosomal rearrangements. However, the non­SMC condensin I complex subunit G (NCAPG) of the structural maintenance of chromosomes family is known to exert a key role in tumour development. It has been shown that high expression of NCAPG is closely associated with tumour development and progression. Overexpression of NCAPG variously affects chromosome condensation and segregation during cell mitosis, influences cell cycle regulation, promotes tumour cell proliferation and invasion, and inhibits apoptosis. In addition, NCAPG has been associated with tumour cell stemness, tumour resistance and recurrence. The aim of the present review was to explore the underlying mechanisms of NCAPG during tumour development, with a view towards providing novel targets and strategies for tumour therapy, and through the elucidation of the mechanisms involved, to lay the foundation for future developments in health.

Extracellular proteases, such as chitinases secreted by Arthrobotrys oligospora (A. oligospora), play a crucial role in the process of nematode infection. However, post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression involving microRNAs (miRNAs) in A. oligospora remains scarcely described. Hereto, transcriptome sequencing was carried out to analyze the expression profiles of chitin-responsive miRNAs in A. oligospora. Based on the RNA-seq data, the differential expression of miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) in response to chitin was screened, identified and characterized in A. oligospora. Meanwhile, the potential target genes were predicted by the online tools miRanda and Targetscan, respectively. Furthermore, the interaction of DEmiRNA with it's target gene was validated by a dual-luciferase reporter assay system. Among 85 novel miRNAs identified, 25 miRNAs displayed significant differences in expression in A. oligospora in response to chitin. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis showed that the potential genes targeted by DEmiRNAs were enriched in the biological processes such as bio-degradation, extracellular components and cell cycle. KEGG analysis revealed that the target genes were mainly involved in Hippo, carbon and riboflavin metabolic pathway. Outstandingly, chitinase AOL_s00004g379, which is involved in the hydrolysis metabolic pathway of chitin, was confirmed to be a target gene of differential miR_70. These findings suggest that chitin-responsive miRNAs are involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, predator hyphae growth and chitinase expression through the mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation, which provides a new perspective to the molecular mechanisms underlying miRNAs-mediated control of gene expression in A. oligospora.

Human behavior is largely influenced by social norms. While the social norm approach is frequently used in public health campaigns, their effectiveness is inconsistent. This study investigated the role of normative reactance - the amplification of subjective norms as a means of restoring threatened freedom - across two health behaviors: college drinking and STD testing. A 2 (message threat: low vs. high) × 2 (health topic: college drinking vs. STD testing) between-subjects experiment was conducted with 765 participants. The results indicated that, similar to attitudes, subjective norms could also be amplified as a self-justification strategy to restore threatened freedom, which led to reduced intention to follow a message recommendation. In addition, results showed that the role of subjective norms and attitudes can vary across health behaviors and individual differences, particularly concerning an individual's degree of self-monitoring. Theoretical implications, limitations, and future directions are discussed.

This study examines the inconsistent theories surrounding the roles of perceived threat and efficacy in risk communication theories, focusing on behavioral changes during a public health crisis. Utilizing a two-wave panel survey, the research found a nuanced interaction between efficacy beliefs and risk perceptions in dictating individuals' engagement in protective or defensive behaviors. Notably, those with high risk perceptions but lower efficacy beliefs were more likely to engage in future protective behaviors, contradicting previous assumptions about the avoidance group's propensity for defensive reactions. These findings initiate a complex discussion on the dynamics of risk and efficacy perceptions influencing behavior.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the potential of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) radiomics in assessing cancer-associated fibroblasts in clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 132 patients with ccRCC. The arterial and venous phase iodine-based material decomposition images (IMDIs), virtual non-contrast images, 70 keV, 100 keV, and 150 keV virtual monoenergetic images, and mixed energy images (MEIs) were obtained from the DECT datasets. On the Radcloud platform, radiomics feature extraction, feature selection, and model establishment were performed. Seven radiomics models were established using the support vector machine. The predictive performance was evaluated by utilizing receiver operating characteristic and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. Nomograms were constructed. RESULTS: The combined model demonstrated high efficiency in evaluating pseudocapsule thickness with AUC, specificity, and sensitivity of 0.833, 0.870, and 0.750, respectively in the validation set, surpassing those of other models. The precision, F1-score, and Youden index were also higher for the combined model. For evaluating the number of collagen fibers, the combined model exhibited the highest AUC (0.741) among all models, with a specificity of 0.830 and a sensitivity of 0.330. The AUC in the 150 kv model and IMDI model were slightly lower than those in the combined model (0.728 and 0.710, respectively), with corresponding sensitivity and specificity of 0.560/0.780 and 0.670/0.830. The nomogram exhibited that Rad-score had good prediction efficiency. CONCLUSION: DECT radiomics features have significant value in evaluating the interstitial fibers of ccRCC. The combined model of IMDI + MEI exhibits superior performance in assessing the thickness of the pseudocapsule, while the combined, 150 keV, and IMDI models demonstrate higher efficacy in evaluating collagen fiber number. Radiomics, combined with imaging features and clinical features, has excellent predictive performance. These findings offer crucial support for the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of ccRCC and provide valuable insights into the application of DECT.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of perinatal depression is increasing and has become a global public health problem to be addressed. OBJECTIVE: To explore the prevention and treatment effects of different exercise methods on perinatal depression. METHODS: A meta-analysis was conducted by searching databases for published "exercise interventions for perinatal depression "related randomized controlled trials, up to July 20, 2022. RESULTS: 48 randomized controlled trials were included, with a total of 5282 pregnant women. (1) Exercise prevention of prenatal depression has a low effective stress intervention effect, ranking from high to low as yoga, aerobic+resistance. (2) Exercise therapy for prenatal depression has a significant intervention effect, followed by gymnastics, pelvic floor muscle training, aerobic exercise, aerobic+resistance, and yoga. (3) Exercise prevention of postpartum depression has a low effective intervention effect, followed by yoga, aerobic exercise, aerobic+resistance, and gymnastics. (4) Exercise has a moderate equivalent stress intervention effect on treating postpartum depression, followed by aerobic exercise, water exercise, yoga, fertility dance, and stroller walking. LIMITATIONS: Due to the small number of included literature on single exercise modalities, and maternity is a special population, most of the trial procedures included in the text were not blinded, which has a certain risk of bias and affects the accuracy of the Meta-analysis results. CONCLUSIONS: The therapeutic effect of exercise in the prevention and treatment of perinatal depression is superior to the preventive effect, and the effect of prenatal prevention and treatment is better than that of postpartum, with a moderate effect.

Wheat powdery mildew, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt), is one of the most prevalent diseases of wheat worldwide and can lead to severe yield reductions. Identifying genes involved in powdery mildew resistance will be useful for disease resistance breeding and control. Calreticulin (CRT) is a member of multigene family widely found in higher plants and is associated with a variety of plant physiological functions and defense responses. However, the role of CRT in wheat resistance to powdery mildew remains unclear. TaCRT3 was identified from the proteomic sequence of an incompatible interaction between the wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivar Xingmin 318 and the Bgt isolate E09. Following analysis of transient expression of the GFP-TaCRT3 fusion protein in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves, TaCRT3 was localized in the nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell membrane. Transcript expression levels of TaCRT3 were significantly upregulated in the wheat-Bgt incompatible interaction. More critically, knockdown of TaCRT3 using virus-induced gene silencing resulted in attenuated resistance to Bgt in wheat. Histological analysis showed a significant increase in Bgt development in TaCRT3-silenced plants, whereas the pathogen-related gene was significantly downregulated in TaCRT3-silenced leaves. In addition, overexpression of TaCRT3 in wheat enhanced the resistance to powdery mildew, the growth of Bgt was significantly inhibited, and the area of H2O2 near the infection site and the expression of defense-related genes of the salicylic acid pathway significantly increased. These findings imply that TaCRT3 may act as a disease resistance factor that positively regulates resistance to powdery mildew, during which SA signaling is probably activated.

Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is a salvage therapy for relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). We have developed a novel conditioning regimen called CEAC (oral semustine 250 mg/m2 d-6, etoposide 300 mg/m2 d-5 ~ d-2, cytarabine 500 mg/m2 d-5 ~ d-2, and cyclophosphamide 1200 mg/m2 d-5 ~ d-2) In lymphoma patients in China. Here, we conducted a study to compare the conventional BEAM regimen with the CEAC regimen in 110 DLBCL patients. Propensity-score matching was performed in a 1:4 ratio (22 patients received BEAM and 88 received CEAC). Our results showed no significant difference in the overall response rate (95% vs 97%, P = 1.000) and complete response rate (66% vs 73%, P = 0.580) between the two cohorts. The 5-year progression-free survival (PFS), 5-year overall survival (OS), and 5-year cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR) for all patients were 72% (95% CI 62%-82%), 92% (95% CI 86%-97%), and 29% (95% CI 17%-38%), respectively. There was no significant difference in the 5-year PFS (80% vs 70%, P = 0.637), 5-year OS (95% vs 91%, P = 0.496), and 5-year CIR (20% vs 30%, P = 0.733) between cohorts. In terms of safety, the CEAC cohort had a lower incidence rate of grade 1-2 gastrointestinal hemorrhage (P = 0.023) and severe nausea (P = 0.007) compared with the BEAM cohort. In conclusion, the CEAC regimen seems to be a suitable alternative to the BEAM regimen for ASCT in DLBCL patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a heterogeneous group of cancers. The collagen fiber content in the tumor microenvironment of renal cancer has an important role in tumor progression and prognosis. A radiomics model was developed from dual-energy CT iodine maps to assess collagen fiber content in the tumor microenvironment of ccRCC. METHODS: A total of 87 patients with ccRCC admitted to our hospital were included in this retrospective study. Among them, 59 cases contained large amounts of collagen fibers and 28 cases contained a small amount of collagen fibers. We established a radiomics model using preoperative dual-energy CT scan Iodine map (IV) imaging to distinguish patients with multiple collagen fibers from those with few collagen fibers in the tumor microenvironment of ccRCC. We extracted features from dual-energy CT Iodine map images to evaluate the effects of six classifiers, namely k-nearest neighbor (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), random forest (RF), logistic regression (LR), and decision tree (DT). The effects of the models built based on the dynamic and venous phases are also compared. Model performance was evaluated using quintuple cross-validation and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). In addition, a clinical model was developed to assess the clinical factors affecting collagen fiber content. RESULTS: Compared to KNN, SVM, and LR classifiers, RF, DT, and XGBoost classifiers trained with higher AUC values, with training sets of 0.997, 1.0, and 1.0, respectively. In the validation set, the highest AUC was found in the SVM classifier with a size of 0.722. In the comparative test of the active and intravenous phase models, the SVM classifier had the best effect with its validation set AUC of 0.698 and 0.741. In addition, there was a statistically significant effect of patient age and maximum tumor diameter on the collagen fiber content in the tumor microenvironment of kidney cancer. CONCLUSION: Radionics features based on preoperative dual-energy CT IV can be used to predict the amount of collagen fibers in the tumor microenvironment of renal cancer. This study better informs clinical prognosis and patient management. Iodograms may add additional value to dual-energy CTs.

This study examined the influence of media on stigma and public support for policy interventions that address opioid-related problems. Data from a survey of 997 U.S. adults indicate that media exposure to opioids and relevant topics significantly influenced stigma and support for punitive and public health-oriented policies, even after direct and indirect experiences with opioid misuse were controlled for. However, differences emerged in terms of what led people to endorse each type of policy intervention. When people attributed opioid misuse to individual-oriented causes after media exposure, they were more likely to support punitive policies. When people recognized pharmaceutical-oriented causes, they tended to support public health-related policies.In addition to causal attributions, emotions (fear, anger, and sympathy) served as mediators with different effects on stigma and policy support. Although exposure to opioid-related stories positively influenced all three emotions, media influence was most likely to elicit sympathy, which was negatively associated with social stigma. However, people who felt anger tended to stigmatize individuals with opioid use disorder and not to support either of the policy interventions. The overall findings suggest that communication efforts addressing the opioid situation should find frames that reduce social stigma and encourage support for public health-related policies.
