RESUMEN

Background: Flow cytometric immunophenotyping of hematolymphoid neoplasms (FCI-HLN) is essential for diagnosis, classification, and minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring. FCI-HLN is typically performed using in-house protocols, raising the need for standardization. Therefore, we surveyed the current status of FCI-HLN in Korea to obtain fundamental data for quality improvement and standardization. Methods: Eight university hospitals actively conducting FCI-HLN participated in our survey. We analyzed responses to a questionnaire that included inquiries regarding test items, reagent antibodies (RAs), fluorophores, sample amounts (SAs), reagent antibody amounts (RAAs), acquisition cell number (ACN), isotype control (IC) usage, positive/negative criteria, and reporting. Results: Most hospitals used acute HLN, chronic HLN, plasma cell neoplasm (PCN), and MRD panels. The numbers of RAs were heterogeneous, with a maximum of 32, 26, 12, 14, and 10 antibodies used for acute HLN, chronic HLN, PCN, ALL-MRD, and multiple myeloma-MRD, respectively. The number of fluorophores ranged from 4 to 10. RAs, SAs, RAAs, and ACN were diverse. Most hospitals used a positive criterion of 20%, whereas one used 10% for acute and chronic HLN panels. Five hospitals used ICs for the negative criterion. Positive/negative assignments, percentages, and general opinions were commonly reported. In MRD reporting, the limit of detection and lower limit of quantification were included. Conclusions: This is the first comprehensive study on the current status of FCI-HLN in Korea, confirming the high heterogeneity and complexity of FCI-HLN practices. Standardization of FCI-HLN is urgently needed. The findings provide a reference for establishing standard FCI-HLN guidelines.

BACKGROUND: The association between leukapheresis (LK) as a treatment option for hyperleukocytosis (HL) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains controversial. METHODS: Data were extracted from the electronic medical record for 2801 patients with AML between April 2009 and December 2019. LK was performed when the leukocyte count was ≥100 × 109 /L at the time initial bone marrow examination. RESULTS: A comparison between the patients with HL in the non-LK (n = 1579) and LK (n = 208) groups revealed survival probabilities (%) of 93.2% and 90.4% (P = .130) for day 30 (D30), 85.4% and 84.2% (P = .196) for D60, and 83.6% and 80.8% (P = .258) for D90, respectively. After propensity score matching, a comparison between the patients with HL in the non-LK (n = 192) and LK (n = 192) groups revealed survival probabilities (%) of 83.9% and 91.2% (P = .030) for D30, 75.0% and 84.9% (P = .015) for day 60 (D60), and 62.4% and 81.3% (P = .034) for day 90 (D90), respectively. After D150, the observed effect of LK appeared to be mitigated without a survival benefit. DISCUSSION: LK was associated with improved early survival outcomes at D30, D60, and D90 among patients with AML exhibiting HL. Thus, it may be considered a treatment option for reducing cell mass in such patients.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a clinical emergency requiring treatment and results in high 30-day (D30) mortality. In this study, the prediction of D30 survival was studied using a machine learning (ML) method. The total cohort consisted of 1700 survivors and 130 non-survivors at D30. Eight clinical and 42 laboratory variables were collected at the time of diagnosis by pathology. Among them, six variables were selected by a feature selection method: induction chemotherapy (CTx), hemorrhage, infection, C-reactive protein, blood urea nitrogen, and lactate dehydrogenase. Clinical and laboratory data were entered into the training model for D30 survival prediction, followed by testing. Among the tested ML algorithms, the decision tree (DT) algorithm showed higher accuracy, the highest sensitivity, and specificity values (95% CI) of 90.6% (0.918-0.951), 70.4% (0.885-0.924), and 92.1% (0.885-0.924), respectively. DT classified patients into eight specific groups with distinct features. Group 1 with CTx showed a favorable outcome with a survival rate of 97.8% (1469/1502). Group 6, with hemorrhage and the lowest fibrinogen level at diagnosis, showed the worst survival rate of 45.5% (25/55) and 20.5 days. Prediction of D30 survival among AML patients by classification of patients with DT showed distinct features that might support clinical decision-making.

Transfusion support for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an essential part of supportive care, and compatible blood should be transfused into recipients. As leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching is considered first and as the blood group does not impede HSCT, major, minor, bidirectional, and RhD incompatibilities occur that might hinder transfusion and cause adverse events. Leukocyte reduction in blood products is frequently used, and irradiation should be performed for blood products, except for plasma. To mitigate incompatibility and adverse events, local transfusion guidelines, hospital transfusion committees, and patient management should be considered.

BACKGROUND: Severe sepsis and septic shock are the leading cause of in-hospital death. As sepsis progresses, expression and activity of endogenous mediators of inflammation change. Early detection of biomarkers can play a role in sepsis screening and in improvement of patient outcomes. Recent studies suggest that increase in monocyte volume may be helpful in early detection of sepsis. Therefore, we evaluated the utility of monocyte distribution width (MDW) for the early assessment of sepsis compared with the blood culture and other inflammatory biomarkers. METHODS: Medical records of 1,404 patients (aged ≥19 years) who were admitted to the emergency department owing to clinically suspected infectious disease and requested blood cultures from Oct 2019 to Jan 2021 were reviewed. The patients were grouped based on Sepsis-3 criteria. They had undergone other laboratory tests to evaluate their clinical status. MDW was analyzed using DxH900 hematology analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Brea, California, USA). To determine the diagnostic performance of MDW, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) for sepsis, the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristics curves and their sensitivity and specificity were measured. RESULTS: Among 1,404 patients, 520 patients were designated the sepsis group based on Sepsis-3 criteria. In the sepsis group, MDW value was 24.1 (median, IQR 21.6-28.1); AUC values for MDW, CRP, and PCT were 0.67 (95% CI, 0.64-0.69), 0.66 (95% CI, 0.63-0.68), and 0.75 (95% CI, 0.72-0.77), respectively. For diagnosis of the sepsis, the cut-off value of MDW was 21.7 (sensitivity 74% and specificity 54%). Measured values of MDW were higher for the blood culture positive group than that of the blood culture contamination group (P<0.001, 95% CI, -5.9 to -3.0) or blood culture negative group (P<0.001, 95% CI = -5.8 to -4.2). CONCLUSIONS: MDW is a new hematological parameter that is simultaneously calculated during complete blood cell counting by Beckman Coulter hematology analyzer. MDW is expected to serve as a useful indicator for early screening of sepsis in conjunction with CRP and PCT. MDW is especially useful for sepsis assessment in patients with a suspected infection. MDW can also assist in discriminating false positive blood cultures.

Early predictors of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) would identify patients requiring intensive care. Recently, the monocyte distribution width (MDW) and presepsin level have been used for the early diagnosis of sepsis. Here, we assessed the utility of MDW and presepsin for the early assessment of COVID-19 severity. Eighty-seven inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled and divided into 3 groups by the type of respiratory support: (1) mechanical ventilation or high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (MVHF-OT), (2) conventional oxygen therapy, and (3) no oxygen therapy. We measured the complete blood count; MDW; erythrocyte sedimentation rate; and the levels of presepsin, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, lactate dehydrogenase, ferritin, Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6), and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) neutralizing antibody. Thirteen (14.9%) patients on MVHF-OT exhibited a significantly higher mortality and a longer hospital stay than did the others. The MDW and presepsin levels were significantly elevated on admission, and correlated with COVID-19 severity (both P < .001). Notably, only the MDW correlated significantly with symptoms in the no oxygen therapy group (P < .012). In the first week after admission, the MDW fell and no longer differed among the groups. The KL-6 level did not differ by disease severity at any time. Neutralizing antibodies were detected in 74 patients (91.4%) and the level of neutralization correlated significantly with COVID-19 severity (P < .001). The MDW and presepsin are useful indicators for early assessment of disease severity in COVID-19 patients.

The number of ABO-incompatible solid organ transplantations (ABOi SOTs) has markedly increased worldwide since the early 2000s. We investigated the choice of ABO group for blood component transfusion in ABOi SOT. We conducted a survey by e-mailing a questionnaire to blood bank specialists at 77 major hospitals in Korea, among whom 34 responded to the survey. In major ABOi SOT, for red blood cells (RBCs), the recipient's type (70.6%) was the most common choice, followed by group O (29.4%); for platelets, group AB (50.0%) was the most common choice, followed by the donor type (38.2%); for plasma, group AB (55.9%) was the most common choice, followed by the donor type (32.4%). In bidirectional ABOi SOT, for RBCs, the recipient's type (55.9%) was the most common choice, followed by group O (44.1%); for platelets and plasma, group AB was the most common choice (94.1% and 97.1%, respectively). The policies for transfusion in ABOi SOT were diverse. We suggest a guideline on the choice of ABO group for transfusion in ABOi SOT to secure patient health and enable an efficient use of blood components.

We used serial rectal swabs to investigate the amount and duration of virus secretion through the gastrointestinal tract and assessed the association between fecal shedding and gastrointestinal symptoms and to clarify the clinical usefulness testing rectal swabs. We enrolled ten adult patients hospitalized with symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Respiratory and stool specimens were collected by physicians. The presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was confirmed using real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. All ten patients had respiratory symptoms, six had diarrhea, and seven were positive for SARS-CoV-2 on rectal swabs. The viral loads in the respiratory specimens was higher than those in the rectal specimens, and no rectal specimens were positive after the respiratory specimens became negative. There was no association between gastrointestinal symptoms, pneumonia, severity, and rectal viral load. Rectal swabs may play a role in detecting SARS-CoV-2 in individuals with suspected COVID-19, regardless of gastrointestinal symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is an important complication after kidney transplantation (KT). Antithymocyte globulin (ATG) increases the risk for CMV infection, and universal prophylaxis is recommended during the first 3 to 6 months after ATG induction in CMV-seropositive recipients. However, following this recommendation is not easy because the cost is high. The aim of this study was to determine who, among high-risk KT recipients, are more vulnerable to CMV infections. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who underwent KT with ATG induction therapy at a single institute from April 2014 to June 2019. We assessed pretransplant recipient characteristics to determine the CMV infection risk factors. Cell-mediated immunity was evaluated with a lymphocyte subset test before transplantation and at the time of discharge. We included 227 patients in the study. RESULTS: CMV-DNAemia was associated with donor type (deceased donor), the duration of renal replacement therapy, and the ATG dose. Multivariable analysis revealed that donor type is the primary risk factor for CMV-DNAemia. We also found that CD4+ cell counts were significantly lower in CMV-DNAemia recipients at the time of discharge. CONCLUSION: The risk for CMV infection in CMV-seropositive KT recipients with ATG induction therapy increases when a graft is received from a deceased donor with renal impairment and when insufficient CD4+ cells are present during recovery.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibody assays have high clinical utility in managing the pandemic. We compared antibody responses and seroconversion of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients using different immunoassays. METHODS: We evaluated 12 commercial immunoassays, including three automated chemiluminescent immunoassays (Abbott, Roche, and Siemens), three enzyme immunoassays (Bio-Rad, Euroimmun, and Vircell), five lateral flow immunoassays (Boditech Med, SD biosensor, PCL, Sugentech, and Rapigen), and one surrogate neutralizing antibody assay (GenScript) in sequential samples from 49 COVID-19 patients and 10 seroconversion panels. RESULTS: The positive percent agreement (PPA) of assays for a COVID-19 diagnosis ranged from 84.0% to 98.5% for all samples (>14 days after symptom onset), with IgM or IgA assays showing higher PPAs. Seroconversion responses varied across the assay type and disease severity. Assays targeting the spike or receptor-binding domain protein showed a tendency for early seroconversion detection and higher index values in patients with severe disease. Index values from SARS-CoV-2 binding antibody assays (three automated assays, one LFIA, and three EIAs) showed moderate to strong correlations with the neutralizing antibody percentage (r=0.517-0.874), and stronger correlations in patients with severe disease and in assays targeting spike protein. Agreement among the 12 assays was good (74.3%-96.4%) for detecting IgG or total antibodies. CONCLUSIONS: Positivity rates and seroconversion of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies vary depending on the assay kits, disease severity, and antigen target. This study contributes to a better understanding of antibody response in symptomatic COVID-19 patients using currently available assays.

Leukapheresis is used for the mechanical removal of leukaemic cells in hyperleukocytosis. However, the effectiveness of leukapheresis remains unclear due to selection and confounding factors in the cohorts. We compared the effectiveness of leukapheresis among the subgroups according to either the 2016 World Health Organization classification or the number of cytogenetic abnormalities with a retrospective, single-centre study from January 2009 to December 2018. Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML, n = 212) and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL, n = 97) were included. The 30-day survival rates (95% confidence interval, 95% CI) for AML and ALL were 86.3% (81.6-90.9%) and 94.8% (90.3-99.2%), respectively. For AML, 'primary AML with myelodysplasia-related changes' and 'AML with biallelic mutation of CEBPA' showed better 30-day survival outcomes (P = 0.026) than the other subgroups. A higher platelet count after leukapheresis was associated with better 30-day survival in AML patients (P = 0.029). A decrease in blast percentage count after leukapheresis was associated with better 30-day survival in ALL patients (P = 0.034). Our study suggested that prophylactic platelet transfusion to raise the platelet count to 50 × 109/L or greater might improve clinical outcome in AML patients undergoing leukapheresis.

INTRODUCTION: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) identification at the allelic level is important for haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Next-generation sequencing (NGS) resolves ambiguous alleles by determining the phase of the polymorphisms. The aim of this study was to validate the software for HLA-SBT (sequence-based typing), assess Korean allele frequency, and characterise the performance of NGS-HLA typing. METHODS: From the 2009 to 2016 registry, 1293 unrelated healthy donors with a complete dataset of previously characterised HLA-A, -B, -C, and -DRB1 loci were selected and assessed for frequency, haplotype inference, and relative linkage disequilibrium. For performance characteristics of NGS-HLA, alleles included in 1293 cases and ambiguous or alleles assigned as new by SBT-HLA software, or unassigned alleles were included. A total of 91 and 41 quality control samples resulted in 1056 alleles (132 samples × 4 loci × 2 diploid) for analysis. The GenDx NGSgo kit was used for NGS-HLA typing using the Illumina MiSeq platform. RESULTS: A panel of 132 samples covered 231 alleles, including 53 HLA-A, 80 HLA-B, 43 HLA-C, and 55 HLA-DRB1 by HLA-SBT typing. Comparison of SBT-HLA and NGS-HLA typing showed 99.7% (1053/1056) concordance and discrepant cases were resolved by manual evaluation. Typing by NGS resulted in 67 HLA-A, 112 HLA-B, 71 HLA-C, and 72 HLA-DRB1 alleles. A total of 132 ambiguous, 4 new, and 1 unassigned alleles by HLA-SBT were resolved by NGS-HLA typing. CONCLUSIONS: NGS-HLA typing provided robust and conclusive results without ambiguities, and its implementation could support HSCT in clinical settings.

BACKGROUND Heart transplantation (HT) is the most useful treatment modality for heart failure. Although several studies have reported the impact of acute kidney injury (AKI) on clinical outcomes after transplantation, little is known about the impact of peri-transplant renal replacement therapy (RRT) on clinical outcomes. We compared the clinical outcomes according to RRT use status among patients with AKI during the peri-transplant period. MATERIAL AND METHODS The medical records of 21 patients who underwent HT from January 2006 to May 2019 were reviewed. We assessed the heart failure cause, comorbidities, immunosuppressant type, requirement for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, AKI incidence, and cardiac and renal functions over time. The patients were divided into 3 groups: those without AKI (non-AKI group, n=6), those who underwent perioperative RRT (RRT group, n=10), and those who did not undergo RRT (non-RRT group, n=5). RESULTS The most common cause of HT was dilated cardiomyopathy (52.4%). Fifteen patients (71.4%) experienced AKI during the peri-transplant period. Among them, 9 (90%) in the RRT group underwent continuous RRT and only 1 (10%) underwent intermittent hemodialysis. Until 6 months after HT, the renal function of the RRT group was worse than that of the non-RRT group (estimated glomerular filtration rate 44.2 vs. 69.2 mL/min/1.73 m2, P=0.015), but the differences dissipated by 9 months. Finally, all patients, even in the RRT group, withdrew from dialysis. CONCLUSIONS RRT during the peri-transplant period in HT may be a good bridge therapy for renal function recovery in patients with cardiorenal AKI.

BACKGROUND: Our hospital experienced the first healthcare-associated COVID-19 outbreak in Seoul at the time the first COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Korea. The first confirmed COVID-19 patient was a hospital personnel who was in charge of transferring patients inside our hospital. To contain the virus spread, we shutdown our hospital, and tested all inpatients, medical staff members, and employees. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the results of SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR testing according to the contact history, occupation, and presence of respiratory symptoms. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) was reviewed in the presence of an epidemiologist to identify individuals who came into contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients. RESULTS: A total of 3,091 respiratory samples from 2,924 individuals were obtained. Among 2,924 individuals, two inpatients, and one caregiver tested positive (positivity rate, 0.1%). Although all confirmed cases were linked to a general ward designated for pulmonology patients, no medical staff members, medical support personnel, or employees working at the same ward were infected. Contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases was frequent among inpatients and medical support personnel. The most common contact area was the general ward for pulmonology patients and medical support areas, including clinical and imaging examination rooms. Finally, the total number of hospital-associated infections was 14, consisting of four diagnosed at our hospital and ten diagnosed outside the hospital. CONCLUSIONS: The robust control of the COVID-19 outbreak further minimized the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the hospital and local communities. However, there was also a debate over the appropriate period of hospital shutdown and testing of all hospital staff and patients. Future studies are required to refine and establish the in-hospital quarantine and de-isolation guidelines based on the epidemiological and clinical settings.

RESUMEN

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China; it has since caused a pandemic, with more than 10,000 confirmed cases (> 800,000 tests) in Korea as of May 2020. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is currently the most commonly used method for the diagnosis of COVID-19 worldwide. The Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine and Korea Centers for Disease Prevention and Control regularly update the guidelines for COVID-19 diagnosis. Emergency use authorization for some laboratory diagnostic kits has been granted, enabling the timely diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, and the isolation of infected patients. Due to the collective efforts of the government, medical professionals, local authorities, and the public, Korea's response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been accepted widely as a model. Here, we summarize the currently available laboratory tests for COVID-19 diagnosis. Although RT-PCR tests are used widely to confirm COVID-19, antibody tests could provide information about immune responses to the virus.

ELISAs and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are widely used for diagnosing dengue virus (DENV) infection. Using 138 single blood samples, we compared the ability to detect non-structural (NS)-1 antigen and anti-DENV IgM/IgG antibodies among (1) DENV Detect NS1 ELISA, DENV Detect IgM capture ELISA and DENV Detect IgG ELISA (InBios International, Inc.); (2) Anti-Dengue virus IgM Human ELISA and Anti-Dengue virus IgG Human ELISA (Abcam); (3) Dengue virus NS1 ELISA, Anti-Dengue virus ELISA (IgM) and Anti-Dengue virus ELISA (IgG) (Euroimmun); (4) Asan Easy Test Dengue NS1 Ag 100 and Asan Easy Test Dengue IgG/IgM (Asan Pharm); (5) SD BIOLINE Dengue Duo (Standard Diagnostics); and (6) Ichroma Dengue NS1 and Ichroma Dengue IgG/IgM (Boditech Med). For NS1 antigen detection, InBios and Euroimmun showed higher sensitivities (100%) than the RDTs (42.9-64.3%). All tests demonstrated variable sensitivities for IgM (38.1-90.5%) and IgG (65.7-100.0%). InBios and Boditech Med demonstrated higher sensitivity (95.6% and 88.2%, respectively) than the other tests for combined NS1 antigen and IgM antibody. Five NS1 antigen tests had good agreement (92.8-98.6%) without showing positivity for chikungunya. However, all IgG tests demonstrated potential false-positivity with variable ranges. Clinical laboratories should note performance variations across tests and potential cross-reactivity.

BACKGROUND: Granulocyte transfusion (GTx) is performed as a supportive therapy in severe neutropenic patients caused by various conditions. The study aimed to analyze the hematologic parameters of donors, patients, and granulocyte concentrates to predict successful GTx. METHODS: This study was performed in 281 donors, with their granulocyte concentrates being collected through apheresis, and in 54 severe neutropenic patients who had various hematologic diseases. Complete blood cell counts of donors pre- and post-apheresis, granulocyte concentrates, and patients pre- and post-GTx were analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups according to survival at discharge (Group S, survival; Group D, dead) to compare various factors including age, infection status, pre- and post-GTx total white blood cell counts (TWBCC) and absolute neutrophil counts (ANC), total number of GTx, infused TWBCC and ANC per weight, and use of G-CSF during therapy. RESULTS: Overall data of patients showed that both TWBCC and ANC were significantly increased after GTx (median values at pre-GTx, TWBCC=0.40×109/L, ANC=0.14×109/L; post-GTx, TWBCC=0.57×109/L, ANC=0.29×109/L, both P<0.0001). After GTx, Group S (N=25) showed significantly higher TWBCC and ANC than Group D (N=29) (P=0.01 and P=0.04, respectively). Using different cutoff levels, post-GTx TWBCC greater than 0.5×109/L showed statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). None of the other factors showed statistically significant differences. CONCLUSION: The TWBCC and ANC after GTx were significant factors to predict patients' outcome. Therefore, follow-up of those two parameters may be helpful to select or consider other therapeutic modalities including additional GTx.

INTRODUCTION: We retrospectively analyzed data of recipients who underwent three consecutive therapeutic plasma exchanges (TPEs) before major ABO-incompatible (ABOi) hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in our hospital from 2012 to 2017 and evaluated the efficacy of TPE for successful ABOi HSCT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated the efficacy of TPE in 29 recipients with major ABOi HSCT based on the following: (1) requirement of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion during 100 days, (2) erythrocyte engraftment by reticulocyte count at 3 months, and (3) erythropoiesis recovery by bone marrow examination at 1 month and 3 months after ABOi HSCT. RESULTS: IgM and IgG donor-specific isoagglutinins (DSIs) of 31 cases of TPE were significantly decreased after three consecutive TPEs (IgM median, 1:32 to 1:2, P < .0001; IgG median, 1:256 to 1:8, P < .0001). We divided a total of 31 TPEs into two groups depending on their final DSI titers after TPE (group F, DSI > 1:16; group S, DSI ≤ 1:16). RBC transfusions were required more by group F (median, 12 units) than those by group S (median, 2 units, P = .001). Relative frequencies of erythrocyte engraftment and normal erythropoiesis after ABOi HSCT showed higher tendencies in group S than those in group F. DISCUSSION: Our study demonstrated that three consecutive TPEs were effective in reducing DSI titer in major ABOi HSCT. Reduction of pretransplant DSI in recipients could decrease requirement for RBC transfusion. Three consecutive TPEs are necessary for successful erythrocyte engraftment and normal erythropoiesis in this setting.

RESUMEN

Passenger lymphocyte syndrome (PLS) is a well-known cause of antibody mediated hemolysis after minor ABO mismatched transplantations. In most cases, PLS is mild and self-limited and easily recovered through transfusion. We report an unusual case of transient loss of A1 phenotype in AB blood type patient with PLS after ABO minor incompatible liver transplantation from B blood type deceased donor.
