RESUMEN

Air pollution poses a significant threat to public health, while biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) play a crucial role in both aspects. However, the unclear relationship between BVOCs and air pollutants in the under-canopy space limits the accuracy of air pollution control and the exploitation of forest healthcare functions. To clarify the variation of BVOCs in forest therapy bases, and their impacts on ozone (O3) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) at nose height, total VOCs (TVOCs) in the forest were collected during typical sunny days, while air pollutants and meteorological factors were observed simultaneously. The results showed that the branch-level emissions of P. tabuliformis were dominated by healthcare-effective monoterpenoids, with only α-pinene having relative air concentrations of over 5 % in forest air samples. The correlation between concentrations of under-canopy TVOCs and emission rates of BVOCs from P. tabuliformis was weak (p > 0.09) in all seasons. However, the correlation between concentrations of TVOCs and the concentrations of O3 and PM2.5 showed clear seasonal differences. In spring, TVOCs only showed a significant negative correlation with PM2.5 in the forest (p < 0.01). In summer and autumn, TVOCs were significantly negatively correlated with both O3 (p < 0.001) and PM2.5 (p < 0.01). Specifically, the negative linear relationships were more pronounced for O3 and oxygenated VOCs in autumn (R2 = 0.40, p < 0.001) than for other relationships. The relationship between air pollutant concentrations inside and outside the forest also showed significant seasonal differences, generally characterized by a weaker correlation between them during seasons of strong emissions. Therefore, BVOCs in coniferous forests are health functions as they can provide healthcare effects and mitigate the concentration of air pollutants in the forest, and the establishment of forest therapy bases in rural areas with low NOx can be a sensible approach to promote good health, well-being, and sustainable development.

To explore the content and variation characteristics of water-soluble ions of atmospheric fine particles (PM2.5) in a Beijing urban area and put forward the pollution prevention and control scheme, the water-soluble ions, gaseous precursors (SO2, NO2), and meteorological factors (temperature, RH) of PM2.5 in 2022 were analyzed and determined. The results showed that the water-soluble ions with the highest proportion in PM2.5 in the Beijing City urban area were NO3-, NH4+, and SO42-, accounting for 52.7% of PM2.5. The mass concentrations of PM2.5 and SNA were lower than the historical results, whereas the proportion of SNA, SOR, and NOR was higher than the historical results. This showed that the fine particulate matter pollution in Beijing has been significantly improved, but it still has strong secondary pollution characteristics. NO3-/SO42-(2.2) was higher than those of historical and nearby provinces and cities, reflecting the expanding influence of mobile sources. In terms of seasonal variation, PM2.5 showed the characteristic of high in autumn and low in summer. The proportion of NO3- was the highest in autumn, spring, and winter; the proportion of SO42- was the highest in summer; and the proportion of NH4+ changed little in each season. The seasonal variation rules of NOR and SOR were almost opposite, which reflected the difference in transformation factors between NOR and SOR. The main forms of SNA in the Beijing urban area were NH4NO3 and (NH4)2SO4. The neutralization degree of cations and anions was the highest in winter, the cation NH4+ was slightly insufficient in summer, and NH4+ was in excess in spring and autumn. The Beijing urban area was an ammonia-rich environment. In terms of pollution level, RH, particulate matter moisture, and water-soluble ions mass concentration all increased with the increase in pollution level, and SNA increased fastest, with its proportion in PM2.5 increasing first and then stabilizing, whereas the contribution rate of other water-soluble ions decreased gradually. In terms of spatial distribution, the mass concentration relationship of SNA at the central urban area and suburbs was NO3- > SO42- > NH4+, which reflected the pollution characteristics dominated by NO3-. The highest contribution rate of SNA to PM2.5 occurred in the eastern region, the central urban area, and the transmission point, indicating that the secondary reaction was relatively active in the central urban area and the eastern region, and the regional transport was also an important source of secondary ions.

With the acceleration of air cleaning activities in China, air pollution has entered a new stage characterized by seasonal interplay and predominance of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone (O3) pollutants. However, the differing peak seasons of these two pollution preclude the use of a unified indicator for air pollution complex. Given that peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) originates from secondary formation and persists under low-temperature conditions for extended periods, it is vital to determine whether its concentration can be used as an indicator to represent air pollution, not only in summer but also in winter. Here, PAN observational data from 2018 to 2022 for Beijing were analyzed. The results showed that during photochemical pollution events in summer, secondary formation of PAN was intense and highly correlated with O3 (R = 0.8), while during PM2.5 pollution events in winter, when the lifetime of PAN is extended due to the low temperature, the PAN concentration was highly consistent with the PM2.5 concentration (R = 0.9). As a result, the PAN concentration essentially exhibited consistency with both the seasonal trends in the exceedance of air pollution (R = 0.6) and the air quality index (R = 0.8). When the daily average concentration exceeds 0.5 and 0.9 ppb, the PAN concentration can be used as a complementary indicator of the occurrence of primary and secondary standard pollution, respectively. This study demonstrated the unique role of PAN as an indicator of air pollution complex, highlighting the comprehensive ability for air quality characterization and reducing the burden of atmospheric environment management.

PURPOSE: To explore factors associated with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) after ultrasound-guided ablation and establish a model for survival risk evaluation. METHODS: Data from 54 patients with 86 iCCAs between August 2008 and October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Cox regression were used to analyze the effects of clinical features on OS and PFS. Based on the variables screened by multivariable analysis, a model was established to predict the survival of the patients. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (timeROC) curve was constructed to evaluate the performance of this model. The model was further verified by bootstrap validation. The clinical usefulness of the model was evaluated by the decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: During follow up, 39 patients died and 49 patients developed recurrence. Pre-ablation CA199 level > 140 U/ml was the only independent predictor of poor PFS. Age > 70 years, early recurrence, maximal diameter of tumor size > 1.5 cm and pre-ablation CA199 level > 140 U/ml were significantly associated with poor OS. Then a model was established based on the above four variables. The areas under the timeROC curve (AUC) for 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 5-year were 0.767, 0.854, 0.791 and 0.848, respectively. After bootstrapping for 1000 repetitions, the AUCs were similar to the initial model. DCA also demonstrated that the model had good positive net benefits. CONCLUSION: The established model in this study could predict the survival outcomes of the patients with iCCA after thermal ablation, but further research was needed to validate the results.

Based on environmental monitoring data and meteorological observation data from 2016 to 2022 in Beijing, combined with backward trajectory clustering and potential source area contribution analysis, the characteristics, meteorological impacts, and potential source areas of ozone (O3) pollution were analyzed. The results showed that there was a total of 41 O3 pollution processes with jumping characteristics in Beijing from 2016 to 2022, with an average of 5.9 times a year. The occurrence time was concentrated in May to July, and the day of the jump (OJD2) was higher than the day before the jump (OJD1). The average value of ρ(O3-8h) was 78.3% higher, and the peak concentration was 78.9% higher. The high O3 concentration zone in the OJD2 region exhibited a characteristic of advancing from south to north. The main reasons for the occurrence of jumped O3 pollution in Beijing could be summarized as local accumulation caused by unfavorable meteorological conditions and regional transmission impact. The occurrence of jump-type ozone pollution was characterized by an increase in southerly wind frequency, temperature rise, pressure decrease, and precipitation decrease. The increase in southerly wind frequency provided conditions for the transport of O3 and its precursors, and rapid photochemical reactions occurred under local high temperatures, with less superimposed precipitation, comprehensively pushing up the ozone concentration level of OJD2. Six air mass transporting pathways were identified through clustering analysis; the air mass from the direction north of OJD2 decreased by 11.2%, whereas the air mass from the south and east directions increased by 6.7% and 4.4%, respectively, with the air masses mainly transmitting over short distances. The ozone concentration corresponding to the south and east directions was relatively high, making a significant contribution to Beijing's pollution. The analysis of potential source areas revealed that the main potential source areas of OJD2 ozone pollution were the central, southern, and eastern parts of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, which contributed 82.6% to the pollution trajectory. There was a significant contribution of regional transport during jump-type ozone pollution, and it is necessary to strengthen joint prevention and control in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region.

PURPOSE: To investigate the value of three-dimensional ultrasound fusion imaging (3DUS FI) technique for guiding needle placement in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) thermal ablation. METHODS: A total of 57 patients with 60 HCCs with 3DUS FI-guided thermal ablation were retrospectively included in the study. 3DUS volume data of liver were acquired preoperatively by freehand scanning with the tumor and predetermined 5 mm ablative margin automatically segmented. Plan of needle placement was made through a predetermined simulated ablation zone to ensure a 5 mm ablative margin with the coverage rate toward tumor and ablative margin. With real-time ultrasound and 3DUS fusion imaging, ablation needles were placed according to the plan. After ablation, the ablative margin was immediately evaluated by contrast-enhanced ultrasound and 3DUS fusion imaging. The rate of adequate ablative margin, complete response (CR), local tumor progression (LTP), disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS) was evaluated. RESULTS: According to postoperative contrast-enhanced CT or MR imaging, the complete response rate was 100% (60/60), and 83% of tumors (30/36) achieved adequate ablative margin (>5 mm) three-dimensionally. During the follow-up period of 6.0-42.6 months, LTP occurred in 5 lesions, with 1- and 2-year LTP rates being 7.0% and 9.4%. The 1- and 2-year DFS rates were 76.1% and 65.6%, and 1- and 2-year OS rates were 98.1% and 94.0%. No major complications or ablation-related deaths were observed in any patients. CONCLUSIONS: Three-dimensional ultrasound fusion imaging technique may improve the needle placement of thermal ablation for HCC and reduce the rate of LTP.

To clarify the characteristics and source apportionment of the VOCs initial mixing ratio in Beijing in summer, continuous monitoring of VOCs was conducted in the Beijing urban area from May to August 2022, and the initial mixing ratio was calculated using the photochemical ratio method. The results showed that:① during the study period, initial φ(TVOCs) in the Beijing urban area were (30.0 ±11.5)×10-9, in which the proportion of VOCs and alkanes containing oxygen reached 34.2% and 33.2%, respectively. The species with high volume fractions were low carbon substances such as acetone, ethane, acetaldehyde, and propane. ② The initial TVOCs mixing ratio in Beijing showed a slightly unimodal trend, reaching the peak at 11:00 and slightly decreasing in the afternoon. ③ Isoprene, acetaldehyde, n-butanal, and ethylene were the major contributors to the generation of O3, whereas toluene, isoprene, m-paraxylene, and ethylbenzene were the major contributors to the generation of secondary organic aerosols. ④ Based on the initial mixing ratio of PMF analysis, it was found that aging background and secondary sources (30%) contributed the most to VOCs in Beijing, and motor vehicle sources (25%) were the main primary human sources. In addition, solvent and fuel volatile sources contributed 16%, combustion sources contributed 11%, industrial process sources contributed 9%, and natural sources contributed 9%. ⑤ The anthropogenic sources of Beijing were mainly from the eastern and southern regions, whereas the natural sources were from the western and northwestern regions. This research showed that vehicle emissions should be further reduced, and regional joint prevention and control to reduce VOCs in the whole region is an effective means to control VOCs in Beijing.

BACKGROUND: A previously trained deep learning-based smartphone app provides an artificial intelligence solution to help diagnose biliary atresia from sonographic gallbladder images, but it might be impractical to launch it in real clinical settings. This study aimed to redevelop a new model using original sonographic images and their derived smartphone photos and then test the new model's performance in assisting radiologists with different experiences to detect biliary atresia in real-world mimic settings. METHODS: A new model was first trained retrospectively using 3659 original sonographic gallbladder images and their derived 51,226 smartphone photos and tested on 11,410 external validation smartphone photos. Afterward, the new model was tested in 333 prospectively collected sonographic gallbladder videos from 207 infants by 14 inexperienced radiologists (9 juniors and 5 seniors) and 4 experienced pediatric radiologists in real-world mimic settings. Diagnostic performance was expressed as the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). RESULTS: The new model outperformed the previously published model in diagnosing BA on the external validation set (AUC 0.924 vs 0.908, P = 0.004) with higher consistency (kappa value 0.708 vs 0.609). When tested in real-world mimic settings using 333 sonographic gallbladder videos, the new model performed comparable to experienced pediatric radiologists (average AUC 0.860 vs 0.876) and outperformed junior radiologists (average AUC 0.838 vs 0.773) and senior radiologists (average AUC 0.829 vs 0.749). Furthermore, the new model could aid both junior and senior radiologists to improve their diagnostic performances, with the average AUC increasing from 0.773 to 0.835 for junior radiologists and from 0.749 to 0.805 for senior radiologists. CONCLUSIONS: The interpretable app-based model showed robust and satisfactory performance in diagnosing biliary atresia, and it could aid radiologists with limited experiences to improve their diagnostic performances in real-world mimic settings.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the work described here was to explore the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) quantitative parameters in predicting the response of combined immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) and anti-angiogenesis therapies for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Sixty-six HCC patients who underwent combined ICI and anti-angiogenesis therapies were prospectively enrolled. A CEUS examination was performed at baseline, and tumor perfusion parameters were obtained with perfusion quantification software. The differences in CEUS quantitative parameters between the responder and non-responder groups were compared, and the correlations between CEUS parameters and progression-free survival (PFS) was evaluated. RESULTS: The objective response rate (ORR) was 21.2%. The values of rising time (RT) ratio, time to peak ratio, fall time ratio, peak enhancement ratio, wash-in rate ratio, wash-in perfusion index ratio and wash-out rate ratio differed significantly differed between the responder and non-responder groups (all p values < 0.05). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that the RT ratio was the only independent factor associated with the ORR (odds ratio = 0.007, 95% confidence interval: 0.000-0.307, p = 0.010). The median RT ratios of the responder and non-responder groups were 36.9 and 58.9, respectively (p = 0.006). The appropriate cutoff point of the RT ratio was 80.1, determined with the X-tile program. Survival analysis indicated high PFS for the patients with a lower RT ratio (high RT ratio vs. low RT ratio = 4.4 mo vs. not reached, p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: CEUS quantitative parameters may predict the efficacy of ICI and anti-angiogenesis combined therapies for HCC.

PURPOSE: To summarize our single-center experience with percutaneous ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for pediatric recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (RHCC). METHODS: From September 2007 to September 2021, patients under 18 who underwent percutaneous US-guided RFA for RHCC were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Local effectiveness, complications, local tumor progression (LTP), progression free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 10 patients (9 male and 1 female; mean age, 11.7 ± 4 years ; age range, 6-17 years) with 15 intrahepatic RHCC lesions were enrolled in this study. Complete ablation (CA) was achieved in 14 out of 15 lesions (93.3%) after the first RFA. During the follow-up (mean, 63.1 ± 18 months; range, 5.3-123.3 months), LTP did not occur. Five patients died including three with tumor progression and one with liver failure. The accumulative one- and three-year PFS rates were 30% and 10%, respectively. The accumulative one- and three-year OS rates were 77.8% and 44.4%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our single-center experience suggests the safety and feasibility of percutaneous US-guided RFA for pediatric RHCC.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been increasingly used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Prognostic biomarkers are an unmet need. We aimed to develop a prognostic nomogram for patients with unresectable HCC receiving ICIs therapy. METHODS: A total of 120 patients with unresectable HCC receiving ICIs treatment were enrolled in this study. Patients were randomly divided into a training set (n = 84) and a validation set (n = 36) in a 7:3 ratio. Clinical characteristics were retrospectively analyzed. Serum α-fetoprotein protein (AFP) response was defined as a decline of ≥20% in AFP levels within the initial eight weeks of treatment. Univariable and multivariable Cox analyses were used to select relevant variables and construct the nomogram. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) were used to determine the performance of the model. Kaplan-Meier analysis with the log-rank test was used to compare different risk groups. RESULTS: The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 7.7 months. In the multivariate Cox analysis, the presence of extrahepatic metastasis (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.08, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02-4.27, p < 0.05), white blood cell count (HR = 3.48, 95% CI: 1.02-11.88, p < 0.05) and AFP response (HR = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.18-0.95, p < 0.05) independently predicted PFS. A nomogram for PFS was established with AUCs of 0.79 and 0.70 in the training and validation sets, respectively. The median PFS of the high- and low-risk subgroups was 3.5 and 11.7 months, respectively (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The nomogram could predict PFS in patients with unresectable HCC receiving ICIs treatment and further help decision making in daily clinical practice.

PURPOSE: This study aims to evaluate the treatment outcomes of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for patients with non-B non-C hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (NBNC-HCC) within Milan criteria, as well as to compare them with those of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC (HBV-HCC). METHODS: From January 2007 to February 2020, 303 patients with primary HCC who underwent RFA were retrospectively reviewed, including 259 patients with HBV-HCC (HBV-HCC group) and 44 patients with NBNC-HCC (NBNC-HCC group). The clinical characteristics and treatment survivals were evaluated and compared. Moreover, the propensity score matching was used to reduce selection bias. RESULTS: A significantly lower proportion of cirrhosis was observed in the NBNC-HCC group (p = .048). Before propensity score matching, local tumor progression, disease-free survival, and overall survival after RFA showed no significant differences between the two groups (all p > .05). After matching, the overall survival rates in the NBNC-HCC group were significantly better than those in the HBV-HCC group (p = .042). Moreover, for patients with NBNC-HCC, tumor size (hazard ratio = 8.749, 95% confidence interval, 1.599-47.849; p = .012) was the only independent predictor of local tumor progression. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with NBNC-HCC within the Milan criteria after RFA had better long-term survival than patients with HBV-HCC, although larger, prospective and multicenter trials are required to validate these results.

Due to the nonlinear impacts of meteorology and precursors, the response of ozone (O3) trends to emission changes is very complex over different regions in megacity Beijing. Based on long-term in-situ observations at 35 air quality sites (four categories, i.e., urban, traffic, northern suburban and southern suburban sites) and satellite data, spatiotemporal variability of O3, gaseous precursors, and O3-VOCs-NOx sensitivity were explored through multiple metrics during the warm season from 2013 to 2020. Additionally, the contribution of meteorology and emissions to O3 was separated by a machine-learning-based de-weathered method. The annual averaged MDA8 O3 and O3 increased by 3.7 and 2.9 µg/m3/yr, respectively, with the highest at traffic sites and the lowest in northern suburb, and the rate of Ox (O3 + NO2) was 0.2 µg/m3/yr with the highest in southern suburb, although NO2 declined strongly and HCHO decreased slightly. However, the increment of O3 and Ox in the daytime exhibited decreasing trends to some extent. Additionally, NOx abatements weakened O3 loss through less NO titration, which drove narrowing differences in urban-suburban O3 and Ox. Due to larger decrease of NO2 in urban region and HCHO in northern suburb, the extent of VOCs-limited regime fluctuated over Beijing and northern suburb gradually shifted to transition or NOx-limited regime. Compared with the directly observed trends, the increasing rate of de-weathered O3 was lower, which was attributed to favorable meteorological conditions for O3 generation after 2017, especially in June (the most polluted month); whereas the de-weathered Ox declined except in southern suburb. Overall, clean air actions were effective in reducing the atmospheric oxidation capacity in urban and northern suburban regions, weakening local photochemical production over Beijing and suppressing O3 deterioration in northern suburb. Strengthening VOCs control and keeping NOx abatement, especially in June, will be vital to reverse O3 increase trend in Beijing.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to establish microvascular invasion (MVI) prediction models based on preoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and ethoxybenzyl-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (EOB-MRI) in patients with a single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ≤ 5 cm. METHODS: Patients with a single HCC ≤ 5 cm and accepting CEUS and EOB-MRI before surgery were enrolled in this study. Totally, 85 patients were randomly divided into the training and validation cohorts in a ratio of 7:3. Non-radiomics imaging features, the CEUS and EOB-MRI radiomics scores were extracted from the arterial phase, portal phase and delayed phase images of CEUS and the hepatobiliary phase images of EOB-MRI. Different MVI predicting models based on CEUS and EOB-MRI were constructed and their predictive values were evaluated. RESULTS: Since univariate analysis revealed that arterial peritumoral enhancement on the CEUS image, CEUS radiomics score, and EOB-MRI radiomics score were significantly associated with MVI, three prediction models, namely the CEUS model, the EOB-MRI model, and the CEUS-EOB model, were developed. In the validation cohort, the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the CEUS model, the EOB-MRI model, and the CEUS-EOB model were 0.73, 0.79, and 0.86, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Radiomics scores based on CEUS and EOB-MRI, combined with arterial peritumoral enhancement on CEUS, show a satisfying performance of MVI predicting. There was no significant difference in the efficacy of MVI risk evaluation between radiomics models based on CEUS and EOB-MRI in patients with a single HCC ≤ 5 cm. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Radiomics models based on CEUS and EOB-MRI are effective for MVI predicting and conducive to pretreatment decision-making in patients with a single HCC within 5 cm. KEY POINTS: • Radiomics scores based on CEUS and EOB-MRI, combined with arterial peritumoral enhancement on CEUS, show a satisfying performance of MVI predicting. • There was no significant difference in the efficacy of MVI risk evaluation between radiomics models based on CEUS and EOB-MRI in patients with a single HCC ≤ 5 cm.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer and is the fifth leading cause of cancer death worldwide and the third leading cause of all diseases worldwide. Liver transplantation, surgical resection and ablation are the three main curative treatments for HCC. Liver transplantation is the optimal treatment option for HCC, but its usage is limited by the shortage of liver sources. Surgical resection is considered the first choice for early-stage HCC, but it does not apply to patients with poor liver function. Therefore, more and more doctors choose ablation for HCC. However, intrahepatic recurrence occurs in up to 70% patients within 5 years after initial treatment. For patients with oligo recurrence after primary treatment, repeated resection and local ablation are both alternative. Only 20% patients with recurrent HCC (rHCC) indicate repeated surgical resection because of limitations in liver function, tumor location and intraperitoneal adhesions. Local ablation has become an option for the waiting period when liver transplantation is unavailable. For patients with intrahepatic recurrence after liver transplantation, local ablation can reduce the tumor burden and prepare them for liver transplantation. This review systematically describes the various ablation treatments for rHCC, including radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, laser ablation, high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation, cryablation, irreversible electroporation, percutaneous ethanol injection, and the combination of ablation and other treatment modalities.

Air quality data from 33 environment sites and five regional sites from 2018 to 2020, as well as meteorological data, were used to research PM2.5 variation,spatial and temporal change, diurnal variation, and heavy pollutions in Beijing. The annual average mass concentrations of PM2.5 in Beijing were 51, 42, and 38 µg·m-3, which showed great progress in air quality improvement. However, the PM2.5 concentration in 2020 was still 8.6% above the national limit value despite a 30.9% decline since 2017. The PM2.5 south-north gradient in Beijing remained throughout the three years, but this pattern showed a less significant trend. The highest monthly mean PM2.5 concentrations in Beijing tended to occur in January-March, with the lowest in August-September. NOx, CO, and PM2.5 concentrations were significantly higher in the heating season than in the non-heating season by 58.4%, 52.9%, and 27.5%, respectively. Diurnal variation showed that greater PM2.5 concentrations were observed at nighttime during the heating season and, conversely, at noontime during the non-heating season. Sixteen pollution episodes occurred in Beijing over the last three years, resulting in 25 heavy pollution days distributed in autumn-winter of 2018-2020. The regional heavy pollution characteristics of PM2.5 in Beijing were significant. Through analysis, a continuous pollution reduction was still the most important reason for the yearly decrease in PM2.5. The concentrations of organic matter, elemental carbon, and crustal matter in the PM2.5 in Beijing decreased by 43.3%, 53.2%, and 51.5% since 2017, respectively, and nitrate, sulfate, and ammonium decreased by 34.2%, 52.2%, and 43.7%.The results showed that the control effect of PM2.5 in Beijing was obvious.

Exploring the vertical variations in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere and quantifying the sources of VOCs at different heights can help control atmospheric photochemical pollution in summer. Here, VOCs were vertically detected at three heights (47 m, 200 m and 320 m) along a 325 m tower of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, in the mornings (8:00) and afternoons (15:00) from May 19 to June 18, 2021. The VOC concentrations in Beijing in summer were 16.2 ± 5.6 ppbv, 14.7 ± 2.5 ppbv and 14.9 ± 3.8 ppbv at 47 m, 200 m and 320 m, respectively, and alkanes accounted for the largest proportion at all heights (>56%). The vertical gradients of the VOC concentrations and components did not significantly change, which was consistent with the summer observations of other stations in North China in recent years, but these results significantly differed from observations from more than a decade ago. To determine the reason for this, a classification based on atmospheric stability was performed, revealing that the vertical distribution of VOCs was uniform in convective and stable conditions and decreased with increasing height in neutral condition. With the transition of atmospheric stability from neutral to convective to stable, the contributions of fuel combustion sources and solvent use sources gradually increased, while those of biogenic sources and background sources gradually decreased. With increasing height, the contributions of background sources increased, those of biogenic sources, solvent use and gasoline vehicular emissions decreased, and those of fuel combustion and industrial emissions remained basically unchanged. The above results indicated that with air pollution treatment, the potential for reducing emissions of VOCs in Beijing has decreased. Therefore, regional joint prevention and control are the main ways to control VOC pollution in Beijing.

Background: Various ablation techniques have been successfully applied in tumor therapy by locally destroying tumor. In the process of tumor ablation, a large number of tumor cell debris is released, which can be used as a source of tumor antigens and trigger a series of immune responses. With the deepening of the research on the immune microenvironment and immunotherapy, researches exploring tumor ablation and immunity are continuously published. However, no research has systematically analyzed the intellectual landscape and emerging trends for tumor ablation and immunity using scientometric analysis. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis to quantify and identify the status quo and trend of tumor ablation and immunity. Methods: Data of publications were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct bibliometric analysis to evaluate the contribution and co-occurrence relationship of different countries/regions, institutions and authors in the field, and to determine the research hotspots in this field. Results: By searching in the database, a total of 3531 English articles published between 2012 and 2021 were obtained. We observed rapid growth in the number of publications since 2012. The two most active countries were China and the United States, with more than 1,000 articles. Chinese Academy of Sciences contributed the most publications (n = 153). Jibing Chen and Xianzheng Zhang might have a keen interest in tumor ablation and immunity, with more publications (n = 14; n = 13). Among the top 10 co-cited authors, Castano AP (284 citations) was ranked first, followed by Agostinis P (270 citations) and Chen Qian (246 citations). According to the co-occurrence and cluster analysis, the results indicated that the focus of research was "photothermal therapy" and "immune checkpoint blockade". Conclusions: In the past decade, the neighborhood of tumor ablation domain immunity has been paid more and more attention. Nowadays, the research hotspots in this field are mainly focused on exploring the immunological mechanism in photothermal therapy to improve its efficacy, and the combination of ablation therapy and immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy.

In recent years, the concentration of PM2.5 in the Beijing urban area has decreased with the increase in the proportion of secondary inorganic ions. In order to explore the characteristics and sources of the light scattering of PM2.5 with different chemical compositions, PM2.5 with its chemical components and scattering coefficient were continuously measured at hourly resolution in the Beijing urban area from December 2020 to November 2021. The components, scattering characteristics, and sources of PM2.5 were analyzed. The results showed that NO3- was the major component of PM2.5 in the Beijing urban area, and the ω(NO3-) and ω(SNA) were 24% and 46% in PM2.5, respectively. PM2.5 could be divided into six types according to mass concentration and component proportion. The occurrence frequency of the good-type was the highest during the study with a similar duration in the four seasons, and the ω(SNA), ω(OM), and ω(FS) were 32%, 32%, and 28% in PM2.5, respectively. The dust(D)-type and the OM(O)-type appeared mainly in spring and summer with the lowest frequency during the study. FS and OM were their major components, and the ω(FS) and ω(OM) were 66% and 46% in PM2.5, respectively. The OM+SO42-(OS)-type, OM+NO3-(ON)-type, and NO3-(N)-type appeared mainly in the afternoon in summer, in the early morning and morning in winter, and at approximately 07:00 every day in spring. Under the condition of low humidity[relative humidity (RH)<40%], the MSE of N-type PM2.5 was the highest (4.3 m2·g-1), and that of D-type PM2.5 was the lowest (2.1 m2·g-1), reflecting the high scattering ability of SNA. The MSE increased with relative humidity. Under the condition of high humidity (RH>80%), the MSE of all types of PM2.5 rose to 1.5 to 1.8 times the values under low humidity. The variation trends of SAE showed that particle size increased with the rising of RH level. Under non-high humidity conditions, the scattering coefficients reconstructed by the revised IMPROVE formula fitted well with the measured values at hourly resolution, the correlation coefficients were between 0.81 and 0.97, and the slopes were between 1.00 and 1.21 except for that of D-type. The N-type fitting result was the best. Under high-humidity conditions, the R and the slopes were from 0.82 to 0.84 and from 0.48 to 0.53, respectively. The annual Bsca was 203.8 Mm-1, and N-type PM2.5 contributed the most, accounting for 53%, in which the large particles of NH4NO3 were the major contributor. Bsca of good-type PM2.5 was 67.2 Mm-1, in which small particles of OM were the major contributor. Bsca was 1.5 times the annual Bsca(dry), whereas the Bsca values of SNA were 1.8 to 2.1 times the Bsca(dry). The peak value of NO3- and RH simultaneously appeared around 07:00, resulting in the maximum Bsca of NH4NO3 at this time. The peak value of SO42- and the Bsca of (NH4)2SO4 mainly appeared at 16:00 and at 04:00, respectively. The diurnal variation curves of OM concentration and Bsca were consistent, and the bimodal peaks appeared at 13:00 and 20:00, respectively. In spring and winter, NO3-, SO42- and OM mainly came from the plains east of the Taihang Mountains, and their potential source regions were not in any particular place in summer and autumn; the main potential source regions of FS were the northwest areas of Beijing in spring and autumn. The flow with high RH across the south and southeast of the north China plain and the eastern rim of Bohai Sea was likely to increase the weighted potential source contribution factor values of Bsca of SNA in this region.

Heavy metals pollution in pharmaceutical industries received increasing attention. A total of 94 soil samples were collected in this study. Results showed the mean contents of Hg, Cd, As, Pb, Ni and Cu were 0.21, 0.26, 9.59, 55.06, 51.52 and 50.81 mg·kg-1, respectively. The spatial distribution of metals in topsoil largely attributed to the pharmaceutical production process. The distribution of Hg and As were related to the production of medical absorbent cotton. While Ni was related to the fuel supply of Ni-rich coal. Cr, Cu and Pb mainly distributed in the process which they were used as catalysts. The vertical migration of metals was complex in soil. To a great extent, it was related to the texture of the soil and the properties of metals in this filed. The total non-cancer and cancer human health risk were within the limits of USEPA (10-6 a-1). This demonstrated the health risks of individual's exposure to heavy metals in this factory was acceptable.
