RESUMEN

Fall-related injury is the most common cause of functional disability and mortality in the older population. Falls in patients with schizophrenia are one of the major concerns in psychiatric hospitals. This study aimed to examine the impact of standardized operating procedures (SOP) on falls in veterans with schizophrenia. Veterans with schizophrenia were allocated to the control group (n = 345) and to the fall protection standardized operating procedures (FP-SOP) group (n = 342). Patients in the control group were given routine nursing for falls, and patients in the FP-SOP group were intervened with FP-SOP plus routine nursing. All patients were observed for one year. The study methods comply with the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist. We found a fall rate of 1.5% in the FP-SOP group and 4.6% in the control group, with a significant difference in the fall rate between the two groups. In addition, the difference in patient satisfaction between the two groups was statistically significant. Our findings suggest that FP-SOP is an effective strategy for fall prevention in psychiatric hospitals.

2D van der Waals (vdW) antiferromagnets have received intensive attention due to their terahertz resonance, multilevel magnetic-order states, and ultrafast spin dynamics. However, accurately identifying their magnetic configuration still remains a challenge owing to the lack of net magnetization and insensitivity to external fields. In this work, the Néel-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) order in 2D antiferromagnet VPS3 with the out-of-plane anisotropy, which is demonstrated by the temperature-dependent spin-phonon coupling and second-harmonic generation (SHG), is experimentally probed. This long-range AFM order even persists at the ultrathin limit. Furthermore, strong interlayer exciton-magnon coupling (EMC) upon the Néel-type AFM order is detected based on the monolayer WSe2 /VPS3 heterostructure, which induces an enhanced excitonic state and further certifies the Néel-type AFM order of VPS3 . The discovery provides optical routes as the novel platform to study 2D antiferromagnets and promotes their potential applications in magneto-optics and opto-spintronic devices.

As a crucial concept in magnetism and spintronics, exchange bias (ExB) measures the asymmetry in the hysteresis loop of a pinned ferromagnet (FM)/antiferromagnet (AFM) interface. Previous studies are mainly focused on FM/AFM heterostructures composed of conventional bulk materials, whose complex interfaces prohibit precise control and full understanding of the phenomenon. Here, the enabling power of 2D magnets is exploited to demonstrate the emergence, non-aging, extendability, and rechargeability of ExB in van der Waals Fe3 GeTe2 homostructures, upon moderate pressuring. The emergence of the ExB is attributed to a local stress-induced FM-to-AFM transition, as validated using first-principles calculations, and confirmed in magneto-optical Kerr effect and second harmonic generation measurements. It is also observed that, negligible ExB aging before the training effect suddenly takes place through avalanching, pronounced delay of the avalanche via timed pressure repetition (extendability), ExB recovery in the post-training sample upon refreshed pressuring (rechargeability), and demonstrate its versatile tunability. These striking findings offer unprecedented insights into the underlying principles of ExB and its training, with immense technological applications in sight.

Companies increasingly implement digital transformation strategies to promote efficiency. Nevertheless, there are few concerns about employees' acceptance of the changes, especially the executives' adaptability, which is an important part of digital transformation strategy implementation. By utilizing the "searching-matching" in keywords of the annual reports of public listed companies in China, we measured the degree of corporate digital transformation to analysis its influence on the turnover rate of the Chairman and CEO. We found that digital transformation decreases the possibility of Chairman and CEO's turnover. Derived from the dynamic managerial capital theory, we demonstrated that executives' social network and political connections both have a moderate effect on the relationship between digital transformation and the turnover rate of executives. These findings will contribute to the digital transformation research by integrating with executives' dynamic managerial capital which is attained through social networks and political connections.

In precision dairy farming, computer vision-based approaches have been widely employed to monitor the cattle conditions (e.g., the physical, physiology, health and welfare). To this end, the accurate and effective identification of individual cow is a prerequisite. In this paper, a deep learning re-identification network model, Global and Part Network (GPN), is proposed to identify individual cow face. The GPN model, with ResNet50 as backbone network to generate a pooling of feature maps, builds three branch modules (Middle branch, Global branch and Part branch) to learn more discriminative and robust feature representation from the maps. Specifically, the Middle branch and the Global branch separately extract the global features of middle dimension and high dimension from the maps, and the Part branch extracts the local features in the unified block, all of which are integrated to act as the feature representation for cow face re-identification. By performing such strategies, the GPN model not only extracts the discriminative global and local features, but also learns the subtle differences among different cow faces. To further improve the performance of the proposed framework, a Global and Part Network with Spatial Transform (GPN-ST) model is also developed to incorporate an attention mechanism module in the Part branch. Additionally, to test the efficiency of the proposed approach, a large-scale cow face dataset is constructed, which contains 130,000 images with 3000 cows under different conditions (e.g., occlusion, change of viewpoints and illumination, blur, and background clutters). The results of various contrast experiments show that the GPN outperforms the representative re-identification methods, and the improved GPN-ST model has a higher accuracy rate (up by 2.8% and 2.2% respectively) in Rank-1 and mAP, compared with the GPN model. In conclusion, using the Global and Part feature deep network with attention mechanism can effectively ameliorate the efficiency of cow face re-identification.

The demand for terahertz (THz) communication and detection fuels continuous research for high performance of THz absorption materials. In addition to varying the materials and their structure passively, an alternative approach is to modulate a THz wave actively by tuning an external stimulus. Correlated oxides are ideal materials for this because the effects of a small external control parameter can be amplified by inner electronic correlations. Here, by utilizing an unpatterned strongly correlated electron oxide VO2 thin film, a photoinduced broad-band tunable THz absorber is realized first. The absorption, transmission, reflection, and phase of THz waves can all be actively controlled by an external pump laser above room temperature. By varying the laser fluence, the average broad-band absorption can be tuned from 18.9 to 74.7% and the average transmission can be tuned from 9.2 to 69.2%. Meanwhile, a broad-band antireflection is obtained at 5.6 mJ/cm2, and a π-phase shift of a reflected THz wave is achieved when the fluence increases greater than 5.7 mJ/cm2. Apart from other modulators, the photoexcitation-assisted dual-phase competition is identified as the origin of this active THz multifunctional modulation. Our work suggests that advantages of controllable phase separation in strongly correlated electron systems could provide viable routes in the creation of active optical components for THz waves.

OBJECTIVE: Functional connectivity (FC) is altered in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Most previous studies have focused on the strength of FC in patients with OCD; few have examined the number of functional connections in these patients. The number of functional connections is an important index for assessing aberrant FC. In the present study, we used FC density (FCD) mapping to explore alterations in the number of functional connections in patients with treatment-refractory OCD (TROCD) using the FCD index. METHODS: Twenty patients with TROCD and 20 patients with OCD in clinical remission were enrolled in the study. Global FCD (gFCD) was adopted to compare the differences between the two groups of patients. RESULTS: The gFCD in the left middle temporal gyrus was lower in the patients with TROCD than in those with remitted OCD, suggesting that decreased information processing ability may play a significant role in TROCD. CONCLUSION: The left middle temporal gyrus is a key component of the emotional processing circuit and attentional processing circuit. Decreased information processing ability in this brain region may play a significant role in TROCD; however, further well-designed follow-up studies are needed to support this hypothesis.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a common mood disorder, and the treatment of MDD requires a variety of biopsychosocial approaches. The role of Silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) in the regulation of MDD has recently been implicated. Here, we aimed to explore and elucidate the therapeutic effects of a microRNA, miR-155, in the treatment of MDD. With quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis, we confirmed that cellular and serum levels of miR-155 were up-regulated in individuals with depression compared with those in healthy controls. TargetScan analysis indicated that SIRT1 is a target of miR-155, which was confirmed by dual-luciferase assay, qRT-PCR and Western blot analyses. Treatment of human neural progenitor cells with the antidepressant drug citalopram down-regulated miR-155 expression and up-regulated SIRT1 expression. These results suggest that miR-155 is an important factor in the pathophysiology of depression. miR-155 is a potential target for the development of new antidepressant treatments.

Constituent atoms and electrons determine matter properties together, and they can form long-range ordering respectively. Distinguishing and isolating the electronic ordering out from the lattice crystal is a crucial issue in contemporary materials science. However, the intrinsic structure of a long-range electronic ordering is difficult to observe because it can be easily affected by many external factors. Here, we present the observation of electronic multiple ordering (EMO) and its dynamics at the micrometer scale in a manganite thin film. The strong internal couplings among multiple electronic degrees of freedom in the EMO make its morphology robust against external factors and visible via well-defined boundaries along specific axes and cleavage planes, which behave like a multiple-ordered electronic crystal. A strong magnetic field up to 17.6 T is needed to completely melt such EMO at 7 K, and the corresponding formation, motion, and annihilation dynamics are imaged utilizing a home-built high-field magnetic force microscope. The EMO is parasitic within the lattice crystal house, but its dynamics follows its own rules of electronic correlation, therefore becoming distinguishable and isolatable as the electronic ordering. Our work provides a microscopic foundation for the understanding and control of the electronic ordering and the designs of the corresponding devices.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between age at onset (AAO) and major depression (MD) has been studied in US, European and Chinese populations. However, larger sample studies are needed to replicate and extend earlier findings. METHODS: We re-examined the relationship between AAO and the clinical features of recurrent MD in Han Chinese women by analyzing the phase I (N=1848), phase II (N=4169) and total combined data (N=6017) from the CONVERGE project. Linear, logistic, multiple linear and multinomial logistic regression models were used to determine the association of AAO with continuous, binary and categorical variables. RESULTS: The effect size of the association between AAO and clinical features of MD was quite similar in the phase I and phase II samples. These results confirmed that MD patients with earlier AAO tended to suffer more severe, recurrent and chronic illness and cases of MD with earlier AAO showed increased neuroticism, greater family history and psychiatric comorbidity. In addition, we showed that earlier AAO of MD in Han Chinese women was associated with premenstrual symptoms, postnatal depression, a highly authoritarian or cold childhood parental rearing style and a reduced probability for having melancholia. LIMITATIONS: Data were collected retrospectively through interview and recall bias may have affected the results. CONCLUSIONS: MD with earlier AAO in Han Chinese women shows a distinct set of clinical features which are similar to those reported in Western populations.

BACKGROUND: Phobic fears are common in the general population and among individuals with major depression (MD). We know little about the prevalence, clinical correlates, and structure of phobic fears in Chinese women with MD. METHODS: We assessed 22 phobic fears in 6017 Han Chinese women with MD. We used exploratory factor analysis to examine the structure of these phobic fears. We examined the relationship between individual phobic fears and the severity of MD, neuroticism, comorbid panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and dysthymia using logistic regression models. RESULTS: The frequency of phobic fears ranged from 3.0% (eating in public) to 36.0% (snakes). Phobic fears were significantly associated with more severe MD, high neuroticism, and co-morbid panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and dysthymia. Our factor analysis suggested four underlying subgroups of phobic fears which differed in their clinical correlates, severity and patterns of comorbidity. LIMITATIONS: Data were collected retrospectively through interview and recall bias may have affected the results. CONCLUSIONS: Phobic fears are correlated with comorbid MD and more severe MD. These phobic fears clearly subdivide into four subgroups that differ meaningfully from each other.

The protein folding problem is one of the fundamental and important questions in molecular biology. However, the all-atom molecular dynamics studies of protein folding and unfolding are still computationally expensive and severely limited by the time scale of simulation. In this paper, a simple and fast protein unfolding method is proposed based on the conformational stability analyses and structure modeling. In this method, two structure-based conditions are considered to identify the unstable regions of proteins during the unfolding processes. The protein unfolding trajectories are mimicked through iterative structure modeling according to conformational stability analyses. Two proteins, chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (CI2) and α -spectrin SH3 domain (SH3) were simulated by this method. Their unfolding pathways are consistent with the previous molecular dynamics simulations. Furthermore, the transition states of the two proteins were identified in unfolding processes and the theoretical Φ values of these transition states showed significant correlations with the experimental data (the correlation coefficients are >0.8). The results indicate that this method is effective in studying protein unfolding. Moreover, we analyzed and discussed the influence of parameters on the unfolding simulation. This simple coarse-grained model may provide a general and fast approach for the mechanism studies of protein folding.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the short-term therapeutic effectiveness of body gamma-knife in patients with advanced pancreatic carcinoma. METHODS: Forty-eight patients with advanced pancreatic carcinoma were treated by body gamma-knife therapy. The dosage distribution and other radiotherapeutic plans were established on the basis of the carcinoma position, clinical target volume, and patient health condition. The isodose curve was 50%-60% and covered about 95% of the target volume. The single dose was 350-450cGy. The radiation was performed once every one or two days for 10-12 times. RESULTS: There were 33 patients with back pain. 63.6% of the patients got completely controlled, 30.3% pain remitted, and 6.1% ineffective after 2 to 18 months of therapy. The analgesic effective rate was 93.9%. Among 28 patients with obstructive jaundice, 21 patients (75.0%) recovered. Among 42 patients who received CT, tumor disappeared in 5 patients (11.9%), tumor size decreased in 30 patients (71.4%), remained unchanged in 5 patients (11.9%), and enlarged in 2 patients (4.8%). The 6-month, 12-month, and 18-month overall survival rates were 77.1%, 37.5%, and 10.4%, respectively. The whole process was tolerable for all patients and no severe side-effect was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Body gamma-knife can achieve a high local control rate and survival rate. Its short-term therapeutic effectiveness is satisfactory. Body gamma-knife is a safe and reliable treatment option for patients with locally advanced pancreatic carcinoma.
