RESUMEN

Zinc finger antisense 1 (ZFAS1), a newly discovered long noncoding RNA, is expressed in various tissues and organs and has been introduced an oncogenic gene in human malignancies. In various cancers, ZFAS1 regulates apoptosis, cell proliferation, the cell cycle, migration, translation, rRNA processing, and spliceosomal snRNP assembly; targets signaling cascades; and interacts with transcription factors via binding to key proteins and miRNAs, with conflicting findings on its effect on these processes. ZFAS1 is elevated in different types of cancer, like colorectal, colon, osteosarcoma, and gastric cancer. Considering the ZFAS1 expression pattern, it also has the potential to be a diagnostic or prognostic marker in various cancers. The current review discusses the mode of action of ZFAS1 in various human cancers and its regulation function related to chemoresistance comprehensively, as well as the potential role of ZFAS1 as an effective and noninvasive cancer-specific biomarker in tumor diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. We expected that the current review could fill the current scientific gaps in the ZFAS1-related cancer causative mechanisms and improve available biomarkers.

Background: Psychological conditions aggravate during outbreaks. Here, we have discussed the existing COVID-19 depression, anxiety, and stress and the resulting stigma and its different aspects in Iranian health care workers and their 1st-degree relatives. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, information of our study groups (237 participants including health care workers and their nuclear family members) was collected via two online stigma and depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS) questionnaires. Results: The DASS questionnaire's mean depression, anxiety, and stress scores were 13.59 ± 5.76, 11.07 ± 4.38, and 15.05 ± 5.86, respectively, in our study population. Marriage status was effective on depression and stress scores. Married participants were having less depression (P = 0.008) but more stressful (P = 0.029) than single ones. Education was found to be effective on anxiety and stress scores. Those with an associate, master, Ph.D., and higher college degrees were significantly less anxious and stressed than those with a diploma or bachelor's degrees (P = 0.032 and 0.016, respectively, for anxiety and stress). Participants with a history of psychiatric conditions showed significantly higher depression, anxiety, and stress rates than those without a past psychiatric condition (P = 0.001). Healthcare workers and their nuclear family members suffer from severe stigma (mean stigma scores were 33.57 and 33.17, respectively). Conclusions: Healthcare workers and their nuclear family members in Iran suffer from severe COVID-19 related stigma. We also showed that depression, anxiety, and stress are common among Iranian Healthcare workers and their nuclear family members during this pandemic. This study showed that people with preexisting psychiatric conditions need extra mental care during the pandemic.

This study aimed to compare the effects of infusion of normal saline, 1/3-2/3, and Ringer's lactate fluids on labour outcome, pH, bilirubin, and glucose level of umbilical cord blood. In this randomised clinical trial, 450 nulliparous women with Bishop score ˂5 and indication of pregnancy termination were randomly divided into three groups to receive normal saline, 1/3-2/3, or Ringer's lactate infusion at a rate of 125 mL/h for hydration, upon starting induction of labour. Results of this study indicated that the incidence of hypoglycaemia (p = .19), hyper bilirubinemia (p = .87) and acidosis (p = .10) was similar in neonates of the three groups. Also, there were no statistically significant differences between the three groups with regard to the duration of labour; glucose, bilirubin and pH level of cord blood; and mode of delivery. It can be concluded that infusion of Ringer's lactate, normal saline or 1/3-2/3 fluid during labour is not associated with different maternal or foetal/neonatal outcomes, and none of the fluids has superiority to the others.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? Several studies have been conducted on the association between type and volume of infused fluid on labour duration and neonatal outcomes. However, there has been some controversy.What do the results of this study add? This is the first study that has investigated the association between infusion of Ringer's lactate, normal saline or 1/3-2/3 fluid during labour with labour outcome and pH, bilirubin, and glucose level of the umbilical cord blood and results showed that these fluids have no effect on maternal or foetal/neonatal outcomes and also none of these fluids has superiority to the others.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Due to contradictory results of previous studies, further research with greater sample sizes and different fluids type and volumes may be needed to examine the association between infusion of fluids and neonatal and labour outcomes more precisely.

Exercise is recommended by health professionals across the globe as part of a healthy lifestyle to prevent and/or treat the consequences of obesity. While overall, the health benefits of exercise and an active lifestyle are well understood, very little is known about how genetics impacts an individual's inclination for and response to exercise. To address this knowledge gap, we investigated the genetic architecture underlying natural variation in activity levels in the model system Drosophila melanogaster Activity levels were assayed in the Drosophila Genetics Reference Panel fly strains at baseline and in response to a gentle exercise treatment using the Rotational Exercise Quantification System. We found significant, sex-dependent variation in both activity measures and identified over 100 genes that contribute to basal and induced exercise activity levels. This gene set was enriched for genes with functions in the central nervous system and in neuromuscular junctions and included several candidate genes with known activity phenotypes such as flightlessness or uncoordinated movement. Interestingly, there were also several chromatin proteins among the candidate genes, two of which were validated and shown to impact activity levels. Thus, the study described here reveals the complex genetic architecture controlling basal and exercise-induced activity levels in D. melanogaster and provides a resource for exercise biologists.
