RESUMEN

Chemotherapy for disseminated tuberculosis by the schemes regulated by the Order "On Improvement of Tuberculosis-Controlling Measures in the Russian Federation" issued by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation under No. 109 on March 21, 2003, leads to the regression of intoxication syndrome and the normalization of general blood analysis parameters in most patients, provides bacterial excretion cessation in 72.7% of the patients and decay cavity closure in 53.8%. The extent of the process, the presence of multiple decay cavities, and the detection of drug resistance are the main causes of ineffective treatment in patients with disseminated tuberculosis.

RESUMEN

The course of generalized tuberculosis in a northern region is mainly characterized by its subacute onset; moreover, the symptoms of intoxication and the bronchopulmonary manifestations of the disease are observed practically in all patients. Socially dysadapted individuals are most susceptible to this disease. Even if patients with generalized tuberculosis have significant symptoms of the diseases, only a few of them resort to a health care facility within a month after their occurrence. Hematological changes suggest the implication of suppressed immunity in the development of this form of tuberculosis and support the intensiveness of the disease. Bacterial discharge is noted in all virtually patients (80%). However, the Mantoux test is frequently of no informative value in diagnosing generalized tuberculosis. X-ray is always widely used; decay cavities are encountered in most patients. In addition to lung lesions, generalization of a tuberculous process is attended by the appearance of specific changes in the liver, spleen, kidneys, serous membranes, and peripheral lymph nodes.

RESUMEN

The hormonal regulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and the status of the body antioxidant system has been studied insufficiently. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of insulin on the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase--SOD and catalase--CT) and at the same time on the level of LPO products in erythrocytes. Cells were incubated with insulin at different concentrations in own plasma for 2 h at 37 degrees C. It was shown that the incubation of erythrocytes with insulin in physiological concentrations (16.5-80 microU/ml) led to CT increased activity and made no effect on the content of conjugated dienes and dieneketones. A high concentration of the hormone (1000 microU/ml) caused an increase in the content of LPO products and did not influence CT activity. Changes in SOD activity were undetectable with regard to the experimental conditions. Thus, insulin regulating action on CT activity and LPO processes depends on insulin concentration.

RESUMEN

Alterations in superoxide dismutase activity, observed in erythrocytes of children with insulin-dependent form of diabetes mellitus, depended on the age of patients, severity and degree of the disease compensation. Content of lipid peroxidation products was also dissimilar in compensated and decompensated forms of diabetes mellitus. Activity of catalase in erythrocytes of patients was similar to corresponding values of healthy children and did not depend on the disease stage and severity. Estimation of superoxide dismutase activity and content of diene ketons were most suitable patterns for monitoring treatment of diabetes in children.

RESUMEN

Lipid peroxidation products in red cells should be examined within 24 hrs after blood collection. If it is impossible, the blood or treated red cells can be stored at 4-6 degrees C for up to 3 days. A lower storage temperature promotes a drastic reduction of diene conjugate and malonic dialdehyde levels within the first 24 hrs.
