RESUMEN

Thermal performance was tested during cycling work for latent heat storage systems based on KNO3 and NaNO3 (weight ratio 54:46). For heat transfer improvement, cast aluminum honeycomb-shaped structures were produced via 3D printing of polymer model and investment casting. Different wall thicknesses were tested at 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm. The obtained results were compared to working cycles of pure PCM bed. The use of enhancers is reported to improve the rate of charging and discharging of the deposit. In the next step, the structures were examined with numerical simulation performed with ANSYS Fluent software. The wall thicknesses taken into consideration were the following: 0.8, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 mm. An insert with a greater wall thickness allows for smaller dT/dt and better heat distribution in the vessel. The investment casting process enables the manufacturing of complex structures of custom shapes without porosity and contamination.

RESUMEN

Nanofluids can be employed as one of the two fluids needed to improve heat exchanger performance due to their improved thermal and rheological properties. In this review, the impact of nanoparticles on nanofluid properties is discussed by analyzing factors such as the concentration, size, and shape of nanoparticles. Nanofluid thermophysical properties and flow rate directly influence the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. High thermal conductivity nanoparticles improve the heat transfer coefficient; in particular, metallic oxide (such as MgO, TiO2, and ZnO) nanoparticles show greater enhancement of this property by up to 30% compared to the base fluid. Nanoparticle size and shape are other factors to consider as well, e.g., a significant difference in thermal conductivity enhancement from 6.41% to 9.73% could be achieved by decreasing the Al2O3 nanoparticle size from 90 to 10 nm, affecting nanofluid viscosity and density. In addition, equations to determine the heat transfer rate and the pressure drop in a double-pipe heat exchanger are presented. It was established that the main factor that directly influences the heat transfer coefficient is the nanofluid thermal conductivity, and nanofluid viscosity affects the pressure drop.

RESUMEN

The article presents the concept of a high-temperature solar dryer with an internal bed storage. Granite was selected as the material for filling the bed storage, and an emphasis was put on its versatile use and favourable thermal and mechanical properties. Experimental tests were carried out for the charging process of the bed storage, which was filled with granite spheres with three different diameters. The influence of the sphere's diameter on the charging and discharging process of the bed storage was analysed. The results of the experiment allowed a conclusion to be drawn that the use of a granite storage bed could prolong the operation of the considered dryer by two hours.

RESUMEN

This article presents the results of a study into a packed bed filled with ceramic bricks. The designed storage installation is supposed to become part of a heating system installed in a single-family house and eventually to be integrated with a concentrated solar collector adapted to climate conditions in Poland. The system's working medium is air. The investigated temperature ranges and air volume flow rates in the ceramic bed were dictated by the planned integration with a solar air heater. Designing a packed bed of sufficient parameters first required a mathematical model to be constructed and heat exchange to be analyzed, since heat accumulation is a complex process influenced by a number of material properties. The cases discussed in the literature are based on differing assumptions and different formulas are used in calculations. This article offers a comparison of various mathematical models and of system operating parameters obtained from these models. The primary focus is on the Nusselt number. Furthermore, in the article, the thermo-hydraulic efficiency of the investigated packed bed is presented. This part is based on a relationship used in solar air collectors with internal storage.
