BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Despite the frequency of concern about falling (CAF) and fear of falling (FOF) in multiple sclerosis (MS), there remains a lack of clarity between FOF and CAF, though persons with MS have indicated that CAF and FOF are distinct constructs. Our team previously developed and validated a new questionnaire, the Concern and Fear of Falling Evaluation (CAFFE), to assess these concepts. This study aimed to examine CAF and FOF prevalence, and determine relationships among CAF, FOF, and self-reported motor, cognitive, and psychological function in MS relapsing (RRMS) and progressive (PMS) subtypes. METHODS: In a single online survey, participants with MS completed questions about CAF and FOF, demographic information, the CAFFE, and self-report measures of motor, cognitive, and psychological function. RESULTS: A total of 912 individuals completed the survey. Persons with PMS reported greater CAF (80.1%) and FOF (59.1%) than those with RRMS (57.0% and 41.6%, respectively). Persons with PMS endorsing FOF (yes/no) reported greater FOF on the CAFFE, greater avoidance behavior, greater walking impairment, and poorer motor function than people with RRMS (P < 0.001). Self-reported motor function, walking impairment, and avoidance behavior were highly correlated to the CAFFE across the overall sample (P < 0.001). DISCUSSIONS AND CONCLUSIONS: These findings underscore the disparity between CAF and FOF, emphasize the importance of evaluating CAF and FOF in MS subtypes separately, and highlight both motor and non-motor factors contributing to CAF and FOF. Future work should focus on interventions that incorporate motor, cognitive, and psychological components to address CAF and FOF. Lyme disease, the leading vector-borne disease in the United States and Europe, develops after infection with Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato bacteria. Transmission of the spirochete from the tick vector to a vertebrate host requires global changes in gene expression that are controlled, in part, by the Rrp2/RpoN/RpoS alternative sigma factor cascade. Transcriptional studies defining the B. burgdorferi RpoS regulon have suggested that RpoS activates the transcription of paralogous family 52 (PFam52) genes. In strain B31, PFam52 genes (bbi42, bbk53, and bbq03) encode a set of conserved hypothetical proteins with >89% amino acid identity that are predicted to be surface-localized. Extensive homology among members of paralogous families complicates studies of protein contributions to pathogenicity as the potential for functional redundancy will obfuscate findings. Using a sequential mutagenesis approach, we generated clones expressing a single PFam52 paralog, as well as a strain deficient in all three. The single paralog expressing strains were used to confirm BBI42, BBK53, and BBQ03 surface localization and RpoS regulation. Surprisingly, the PFam52-deficient strain was able to infect mice and complete the enzootic cycle similar to the wild-type parental strain. Indeed, the presence of numerous pseudogenes that contain frameshifts or internal stop codons among the PFam52 genes suggests that they may be subjected to gene loss in B. burgdorferi's reduced genome. Alternatively, the lack of phenotype might reflect the limitations of the experimental mouse infection model.

BACKGROUND: The pandemic profoundly stressed nursing practice and could have thereby affected trends in nurse-sensitive quality indicators (NSIs), measures that detect changes in patient health status directly affected by nursing care. OBJECTIVES: To determine if NSIs have worsened in response to the pandemic and then returned to pre-pandemic levels using data from 2019 through 2022. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study of annual trends, examining unit data from the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) from 2019 through 2022 for five indicators: rates of falls, central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI), and ventilator-associated events (VAE). The NDNQI is the largest repository of nursing quality indicators, which are derived from patient-level events, reported at the nursing unit level, and submitted quarterly by over 2,000 member hospitals. Adult medical-surgical or critical care inpatient nursing units with complete data for the 4 years were included, with samples ranging from 456 to 5,818 nursing units in 2,346 hospitals. Analysis of variance was conducted by comparing the 2019 rates to each subsequent year. RESULTS: In decreasing order of prevalence, the mean pre-pandemic rates were 6.58 VAE per 1,000 ventilator days (critical care only), 2.41 HAPI per 1,000 device days, 2.20 falls per 1,000 patient days, 0.96 CAUTI per 1,000 catheter days, and 0.68 CLABSI per 1,000 central line days, for medical-surgical and critical care units combined. The rates for all five nurse-sensitive indicators increased significantly beginning in 2020 and have begun to decline but have not returned to baseline by 2022. The maximum rate was observed in 2020 for falls and 2021 for the remaining indicators. These increases to the maximum ranged from a 12% percent increase in CAUTI to 49% for CLABSI. DISCUSSION: NSIs increased during the pandemic and are now returning to baseline. The pandemic underscored the importance of nursing practice. The pandemic's enduring negative effects on the nursing workforce must be addressed to preserve patient safety.

The diabetic heart is characterised by functional, morphological and metabolic alterations predisposing it to contractile failure. Chronic sympathetic activation is a feature of the pathogenesis of heart failure, however the type 1 diabetic heart shows desensitisation to ß-adrenergic stimulation. Here, we sought to understand the impact of repeated isoprenaline-mediated ß-stimulation upon cardiac mitochondrial respiratory capacity and substrate metabolism in the 90% pancreatectomy (Px) rat model of type 1 diabetes. We hypothesised these hearts would be relatively protected against the metabolic impact of stress-induced cardiomyopathy. We found that individually both Px and isoprenaline suppressed cardiac mitochondrial respiration, but that this was preserved in Px rats receiving isoprenaline. Px and isoprenaline had contrasting effects on cardiac substrate metabolism, with increased reliance upon cardiac fatty acid oxidation capacity and altered ketone metabolism in the hearts of Px rats, but enhanced capacity for glucose uptake and metabolism in isoprenaline-treated rats. Moreover, Px rats were protected against isoprenaline-induced mortality, whilst isoprenaline elevated cGMP and protected myocardial energetic status in Px rat hearts. Our work suggests that adrenergic stimulation may be protective in the type 1 diabetic heart, and underlines the importance of studying pathological features in combination when modeling complex disease in rodents.

The archaeological record offers insights into our evolutionary past by revealing ancient behaviour through stone and fossil remains. Percussive foraging is suggested to be particularly relevant for the emergence of tool-use in our lineage, yet early hominin percussive behaviours remain largely understudied compared to flaked technology. Stone tool-use of extant primates allows the simultaneous investigation of their artefacts and the associated behaviours. This is important for understanding the development of tool surface modification, and crucial for interpreting damage patterns in the archaeological record. Here, we compare the behaviour and the resulting material record across stone tool-using primates. We investigate the relationship of nut-cracking technique and stone tool modification across chimpanzees, capuchins, and long-tailed macaques by conducting standardized field experiments with comparable raw materials. We show that different techniques likely emerged in response to diverse nut hardness, leading to variation in foraging success across species. Our experiments further demonstrate a correlation between techniques and the intensity of visible percussive damage on the tools. Tools used with more precision and efficiency as demonstrated by macaques, show fewer use wear traces. This suggests that some percussive techniques may be less readily identified in the archaeological record.

Introduction: Centella asiatica (CA) is known in Ayurvedic medicine as a rejuvenating herb with particular benefits in the nervous system. Two groups of specialized metabolites found in CA and purported to contribute to its beneficial effects are triterpenes (TTs) and caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs). In order to evaluate the role and interactions of TTs and CQAs in the effects of CA, we examined the neurotrophic effects of a water extract of CA (CAW) and combinations of its TT and CQA components in mouse primary hippocampal neurons in vitro and in Drosophila melanogaster flies in vivo. Methods: Primary hippocampal neurons were isolated from mouse embryos and exposed in vitro for 5 days to CAW (50 µg/mL), mixtures of TTs, CQAs or TT + CQA components or to 4 TTs or 8 individual CQA compounds of CAW. Dendritic arborization was evaluated using Sholl analysis. Drosophila flies were aged to 28 days and treated for 2 weeks with CAW (10 mg/mL) in the food, mixtures of TTs, CQAs or TT + CQA and individual TT and CQA compounds. TTs and CQAs were tested at concentrations matching their levels in the CAW treatment used. After 2 weeks of treatment, Drosophila aged 42 days were evaluated for phototaxis responses. Results: In mouse primary hippocampal neurons, CAW (50 µg/mL), the TT mix, CQA mix, all individual TTs and most CQAs significantly increased dendritic arborization to greater than control levels. However, the TT + CQA combination significantly decreased dendritic arborization. In Drosophila, a marked age-related decline in fast phototaxis response was observed in both males and females over a 60 days period. However, resilience to this decline was afforded in both male and female flies by treatment from 28 days onwards with CAW (10 mg/mL), or equivalent concentrations of mixed TTs, mixed CQAs and a TT + CQA mix. Of all the individual compounds, only 1,5-diCQA slowed age-related decline in phototaxis in male and female flies. Discussion: This study confirmed the ability of CAW to increase mouse neuronal dendritic arborization, and to provide resilience to age-related neurological decline in Drosophila. The TT and CQA components both contribute to these effects but do not have a synergistic effect. While individual TTs and most individual CQAs increased dendritic arborization at CAW equivalent concentrations, in the Drosophila model, only 1,5-diCQA was able to slow down the age-related decline in phototaxis. This suggests that combinations (or potentially higher concentrations) of the other compounds are needed to provide resilience in this model.

In sub-Saharan Africa, adolescent girls and young women aged 15-24 (AGYW) experience high risk of early and unintended pregnancy. We assessed the impact of youth-friendly health services (YFHS) on pregnancy risk among AGYW who participated in the Girl Power study. In 2016, Girl Power randomly assigned four government-run health centers in Lilongwe, Malawi, to provide a standard (n=1) or youth-friendly (n=3) model of service delivery. At six and 12 months, study participants (n=250 at each health center) self-reported their current pregnancy status and received a urine pregnancy test. Because of missing pregnancy test results, we used multiple imputation to correct for outcome misclassification in self-reported pregnancy status, and applied the parametric g-formula on the corrected data to estimate the effect of YFHS on the 12-month risk of pregnancy. After correcting for outcome misclassification, the risk of pregnancy under the scenario where all health centers offered YFHS was 15.8% compared to 23.2% under the scenario where all health centers offered standard of care (risk difference: -7.3%, 95% CI: -15.5%, 0.8%). Access to a model of YFHS that integrates provider training with youth-friendly clinic modifications and community outreach activities may decrease risk of pregnancy among AGYW relative to standard of care.

Balance impairment and accidental falls are a pervasive challenge faced by persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS), significantly impacting their quality of life. While exercise has proven to be an effective intervention for improving mobility and functioning in PwMS, current exercise approaches predominantly emphasize forward walking (FW) and balance training, with variable improvements in balance and fall rates. Backward walking (BW) has emerged as a promising intervention modality for enhancing mobility and strength outcomes; however, significant gaps remain. Specifically, there is limited knowledge about the efficacy of BW interventions on outcomes such as static, anticipatory, and reactive balance, balance confidence, falls, and cognition. This randomized controlled trial aims to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of 8-weeks of backward walking training (TRAIN-BW) as compared to forward walking training (TRAIN-FW). Ninety individuals with MS with self-reported walking dysfunction or ≥ 2 falls in the past 6 months will be randomized in blocks, stratified by sex and disease severity to either the TRAIN-BW or TRAIN-FW intervention groups. Adherence and retention rates will be used to determine feasibility and the Client Satisfaction Questionnaire will be used to assess acceptability. The primary outcomes will be static, anticipatory, and reactive balance. Secondary outcomes include walking velocity, balance confidence, concern about falling, cognition, physical activity, and fall rates measured prospectively for 6 months after post-testing. Additionally, the extent to which cognitive functioning influences response to intervention will be examined. Backward walking training may be an innovative intervention to address balance impairments and falls in persons with MS.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) reduces an individual's capacity for automaticity which limits their ability to perform two tasks simultaneously, negatively impacting daily function. Understanding the neural correlates of dual tasks (DTs) may pave the way for targeted therapies. To better understand automaticity in PD, we aimed to explore whether individuals with differing DT performances possessed differences in brain morphologic characteristics. METHODS: Data were obtained from 34 individuals with PD and 47 healthy older adults including (1) demographics (age, sex), (2) disease severity (Movement Disorder Society - Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale [MDS-UPDRS], Hoehn and Yahr, levodopa equivalent daily dose [LEDD]), (3) cognition (Montreal Cognitive Assessment), (4) LEDD, (5) single-task and DT performance during a DT-timed-up-and-go test utilizing a serial subtraction task, and (6) cortical thicknesses and subcortical volumes obtained from volumetric MRI. Participants were categorized as low or high DT performers if their combined DT effect was greater than the previously determined mean value for healthy older adults (µ = -74.2). Nonparametric testing using Quade's ANCOVA was conducted to compare cortical thicknesses and brain volumes between the highDT and lowDT groups while controlling for covariates: age, sex, MDS-UPDRS part III, LEDD, and intracranial volume. Secondarily, similar comparisons were made between the healthy older adult group and the highDT and lowDT groups. Lastly, a hierarchical linear regression model was conducted regressing combined DT effect on covariates (block one) and cortical thicknesses (block 2) in stepwise fashion. RESULTS: The highDT group had thicker cortices than the lowDT group in the right primary somatosensory cortex (p = 0.001), bilateral primary motor cortices (p ≤ 0.001, left; p = 0.002, right), bilateral supplementary motor areas (p = 0.001, left; p < 0.001, right), and mean of the bilateral hemispheres (p = 0.001, left; p < 0.001, right). Of note, left primary cortex thickness (p = 0.002), left prefrontal cortex thickness (p < 0.001), and right supplementary motor area thickness (p = 0.003) differed when adding a healthy comparison group. Additionally, the regression analysis found that the left paracentral lobule thickness explained 20.8% of the variability in combined DT effect (p = 0.011) beyond the influence of covariates. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest regions underlying DT performance, specifically, a convergence of neural control relying on sensorimotor integration, motor planning, and motor activation to achieve higher levels of DT performance for individuals with PD.

The emerging nutraceutical, fucoxanthin, shows promise as a high-value product to enable the integrated biorefinery. Fucoxanthin can be extracted from algae through supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), but literature does not agree on optimal extraction conditions. Here, a statistical analysis of literature identifies supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) density, ethanol cosolvent amount, and polarity as significant predictors of fucoxanthin yield. Novel SFE experiments are then performed using a fucoxanthin standard, describing its fundamental solubility. These experiments establish solvent system polarity as the key knob to tune fucoxanthin recovery from 0% to 100% and give specific operating conditions for targeted fucoxanthin extraction.Further experiments compare extractions on fucoxanthin standard with extractions from Phaeodactylum tricornutum microalgae to elucidate the effect of the algae matrix. Results show selectivity of fucoxanthin over chlorophyll in scCO2 microalgae extractions that was not seen in extractions with ethanol, indicating a benefit of scCO2 to design selective extraction schemes.

BACKGROUND: Although the COVID-19 quarantine required everyone to make lifestyle changes, it may have had especially profound implications for individuals who experience multiple sclerosis (MS)-related fatigue. Individuals with MS who suffer from fatigue are at risk of worsening symptoms and already predisposed to inactivity and social isolation. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of the COVID-19 national quarantine and related restrictions on mental, emotional, and physical fatigue in persons with MS in the United States. METHODS: We conducted a survey open to all adults (>18 years) with MS within the United States. The survey gathered demographic information and asked how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted their physical, mental, and emotional fatigue. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 600 individuals, 478 with relapsing MS and 122 with progressive MS. There was a significant 2-way interaction of time by fatigue type; both physical and emotional fatigue significantly increased during the pandemic (P <.01) and remained significantly higher after the pandemic than prior to the pandemic (P <.01). Mental fatigue increased significantly during the pandemic (P <.01) and although it remained higher, on average, after the pandemic, it was not significantly different from the level before the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with MS experienced increases in physical, mental, and emotional fatigue over the course of the COVID-19 quarantine. Even after the lifting of quarantine restrictions, these levels have not returned to baseline. To adequately address fatigue, it is critical that health care professionals inquire about all types of fatigue in persons with MS.

Cue reactivity is the maladaptive neurobiological and behavioral response upon exposure to drug cues and is a major driver of relapse. The leading hypothesis is that dopamine release by addictive drugs represents a persistently positive reward prediction error that causes runaway enhancement of dopamine responses to drug cues, leading to their pathological overvaluation compared to non-drug reward alternatives. However, this hypothesis has not been directly tested. Here we developed Pavlovian and operant procedures to measure firing responses, within the same dopamine neurons, to drug versus natural reward cues, which we found to be similarly enhanced compared to cues predicting natural rewards in drug-naïve controls. This enhancement was associated with increased behavioral reactivity to the drug cue, suggesting that dopamine release is still critical to cue reactivity, albeit not as previously hypothesized. These results challenge the prevailing hypothesis of cue reactivity, warranting new models of dopaminergic function in drug addiction, and provide critical insights into the neurobiology of cue reactivity with potential implications for relapse prevention.

BACKGROUND: People with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience mobility impairments that elevate fall risk, increasing the need to identify clinical measures that accurately predict falls. Backward walking (BW) better differentiates fallers from nonfallers in MS. However, no studies have reported the measurement properties of the backward walking Timed 25-Foot Walk (B-T25-FW) and BW metrics, like BW velocity. Additionally, it is unknown whether BW can predict future falls in MS or its link to activity levels. This study assessed the reliability and responsiveness of B-T25-FW and BW metrics, including BW velocity. It also examined whether BW could predict falls at 3 and 6 months and its association with activity levels. METHODS: During 2 separate visits, 23 people with MS completed the forward walking Timed 25-Foot Walk (F-T25-FW) and B-T25-FW, as well as forward walking and BW assessments in which spatiotemporal measures were recorded. Test-retest reliability was determined with intraclass correlation coefficients, and minimum detectable changes were calculated. Correlation analyses explored the relationship between BW velocity, B-T25-FW, prospective falls, and activity levels. RESULTS: B-T25-FW and BW velocity exhibited excellent test-retest reliability. Large effect sizes to interpret clinically meaningful change in the B-T25-FW and BW velocity were also found. Both metrics demonstrated modest negative correlations with falls at 3 and 6 months and correlated strongly with very active minutes at 3- and 6-months post study. CONCLUSIONS: The B-T25-FW and BW velocity are effective and reliable in clinical use for evaluating functional mobility in people with MS, are sensitive enough to detect subtle changes, and may be a meaningful marker for tracking disease progression and treatment efficacy.

We present a case of an adolescent patient with a penetrating gunshot wound to the mouth requiring endotracheal intubation via rapid sequence intubation in the prehospital setting. The team used video laryngoscopy (VL) to secure the airway; however, continuous bloody secretions increased the complexity of the procedure and required the application of the Suction-Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination (SALAD) method to facilitate intubation. By utilizing the SALAD procedure, the field of view on the VL camera remained unobscured, and the patient's airway remained clear, allowing for an uneventful intubation procedure. No episodes of hypoxia, hypotension, bradycardia, or obvious clinical signs of pulmonary aspiration occurred during the procedure. The patient was transported to a local Pediatric Level I trauma center, where he underwent emergent surgery to repair an esophageal laceration and was discharged to home 40 days later. This case highlights the importance of deliberate and proactive management of the contaminated airway in the prehospital setting. The SALAD technique replaces the Yankauer suction catheter with a larger bore suction catheter in conjunction with VL to perform gross decontamination of the mouth and airway before attempting intubation. This is followed by permanently placing the large bore suction catheter under constant suction in the posterior pharynx or esophagus to keep the VL camera unobscured by vomit or blood to facilitate intubation. After the intubation, the suction catheter may be removed unless ongoing suction is required. Keeping the VL camera unobscured during the procedure may improve first-pass intubation success rate.

A novel species, Gymnadenia winkeliana, has been identified in the Bucegi Natural Park ROSCI0013, located in the Southern Carpathians of Central Romania. Two moderately sized populations of Gymnadenia winkeliana, totalling 120-140 individuals, were discovered inhabiting the alpine grasslands of the park, situated 2.000 m above sea level. To describe this newly found population as comprehensively as possible, 44 vegetative and floral organs/organ parts were directly studied and measured from living plants. Special attention was focused on the characteristics that proved to have taxonomic significance, particularly those involving distinctive details in the morphology of the leaves, perianth, labellum and gynostemium. A total of 223 characteristics were analysed encompassing the morphology of every organ of the plant, cytology and breeding system. Furthermore, comprehensive taxonomic treatment and description, accompanied by colour photographs illustrating the holotype, are provided. Voucher specimens were deposited at the Herbarium of the University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Bucharest (USAMVB Herbarium barcode: 40102, NEA); Gymnadenia winkeliana, a (micro)endemic species, is characterized as a putative allogamous, facultatively apomict that significantly differs from other Gymnadenia R.Br. species found in Romania. Notably, it distinguishes itself through its smaller habitus (reaching heights of up to 8-10 cm), its two-coloured, rounded/hemispherical inflorescence displaying a gradient of pink hues in an acropetal fashion (ranging from whitish-pink at the base to vivid-pink at the topmost flowers), and its limited distribution in high-altitude areas, encompassing approximately 8-10 km2 in the central area of the Bucegi Natural Park. This species has been under observation since 2005, with observed population numbers showing a significant increase over time, from ca. 50-55 (counted at the time of its discovery) to 120-140 individuals (counted in June 2023). Additionally, comprehensive information regarding the habitat, ecology, phenology and IUCN conservation assessments of Gymnadenia winkeliana are provided, including maps illustrating its distribution.

Corpus callosotomy is a therapeutic approach for drug-resistant epilepsy, with positive outcomes observed in managing atonic seizures. Despite a decline in its usage, radiosurgical callosotomy remains a viable option for drug-resistant epilepsy due to its low risks of post-radiation neoplasia, albeit not with exceptions. Brain radionecrosis is characterized by tissue death and vascular endothelial damage following the procedure. Despite the low risk of intracranial secondary malignancy associated with radiation in some cases, post-radiation lesions might present with distinct characteristics needing a thorough diagnostic approach. Herein, we present a unique case of a patient with focal epilepsy who developed a radionecrotic lesion following radiosurgical callosotomy, affecting the anterior cingulate cortex, and mimicking a central nervous system (CNS) tumor. Molecular imaging techniques, including 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18-FDG PET/CT) and 11C-acetate PET/CT scans, were employed to differentiate the lesion from a tumor. This case underscores the importance of considering radionecrosis as a differential diagnosis in patients who undergo radiosurgical callosotomy presenting with ring-like enhancement lesions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Background: A water extract (CAW) of the Ayurvedic plant Centella asiatica administered in drinking water has been shown to improve cognitive deficits in mouse models of aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Here the effects of CAW administered in drinking water or the diet on cognition, measures of anxiety and depression-like behavior in healthy aged mice are compared. Methods: Three- and eighteen-month-old male and female C57BL6 mice were administered rodent AIN-93M diet containing CAW (0, 0.2, 0.5 or 1% w/w) to provide 0, 200 mg/kg/d, 500 mg/kg/d or 1,000 mg/kg/d CAW for a total of 5 weeks. An additional group of eighteen-month-old mice were treated with CAW (10 mg/mL) in their drinking water CAW for a total of 5 weeks to deliver the same exposure of CAW as the highest dietary dose (1,000 mg/kg/d). CAW doses delivered were calculated based on food and water consumption measured in previous experiments. In the fourth and fifth weeks, mice underwent behavioral testing of cognition, anxiety and depression (n = 12 of each sex per treatment group in each test). Results: Aged mice of both sexes showed cognitive deficits relative to young mice while only female aged mice showed increased anxiety compared to the young female mice and no differences in depression were observed between the different ages. CAW (1,000 mg/kg/d) in the drinking water improved deficits in aged mice in learning, executive function and recognition memory in both sexes and attenuated the increased measures of anxiety observed in the aged female mice. However, CAW in the diet only improved executive function in aged mice at the highest dose (1,000 mg/kg/d) in both sexes and did so less robustly than when given in the water. There were no effects of CAW on depression-like behavior in aged animals regardless of whether it was administered in the diet or the water. Conclusions: These results suggest that CAW can ameliorate age-related changes in measures of anxiety and cognition and that the mode of administration is important for the effects of CAW on resilience to these age-related changes.
