RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Using meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the diagnosis of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, WanFang Data, VPCS Data, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure electronic databases for diagnostic studies on PTMC by CEUS from January 2013 to November 2022. Data were not available or incomplete such as case reports, nonhuman studies, etc, were excluded. Random-effects meta-analyses were used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in diagnosing PTMC. The quality of the evidence was assessed with the QUADAS-2 scale. This study is registered on PROSPERO, number CRD42023409417. RESULTS: Of 1064 records identified, 33 were eligible. The results showed that the pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, and diagnostic odds ratio of CEUS in diagnosing PTMC were 0.84 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.83-0.86), 0.82 (95% CI = 0.80-0.83), 3.90 (95% CI = 3.23-4.72), 0.21 (95% CI = 0.18-0.25), and 20.01 (95% CI = 14.97-26.74), respectively, and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.8930 (the Q index was 0.8239). The Deek funnel plot indicated publication bias (P ˂.01). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis provides an overview of diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in diagnosing PTMC which indicates CEUS has a good diagnostic value for PTMC. The limitations of this study are publication bias and strong geographical bias.

RESUMEN

Although vomiting is commonly recognized as a protective reaction in response to toxic stimuli, the elaborate sensory processes and necessary molecular components are not fully clear, which is due to a lack of appropriate experimental animal models. Vomiting reflex to volatile chemicals renders locust one candidate for vomiting model. Here, we identified a panel of chemical cues that evoked evident vomiting in locust nymphs and demonstrated the selected combinatorial coding strategy that palps but not antennae olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) employed. Specifically, knocking down individual palp odorant receptors (ORs) such as OR17, OR21, and OR22 attenuated the vomiting intensity evoked by E-2-hexenal and hexanal, while suppression of OR12 and OR22 augmented vomiting to E-2-hexenal and 2-hexanone, respectively. Furthermore, dual-RNAi treatment against OR17 or OR21 together with OR22 resulted in a much lower response intensity than that of individual OR suppression. Furthermore, OR12 was revealed in palp sensilla basiconica (pb) subtype 3 to tune the neuronal decaying activity to E-2-hexenal. Finally, anterograde labeling indicated that palp ORNs primarily projected into the lobus glomerulatus (LG), and the projection neurons (PNs) in the LG further projected into the accessary calyx (ACA). Together, the establishment of an olfaction-inducible vomiting model in locusts deepens the understanding of olfactory coding logics and provides an opportunity to clarify the neural basis underlying animal vomiting.

RESUMEN

Asynchronized and non-uniform seed germination is causing obstacles to the large-scale cultivation of carrot (Daucus carota L.). In the present study, the combination of high voltage electrostatic field treatment (EF) with hydropriming (HYD), namely hydro-electro hybrid priming (HEHP), significantly improved all germination indicators of carrot seeds, and the promoting effect was superior to that of the HYD treatment. A tandem mass tags (TMT)-based proteomic analysis identified 4,936 proteins from the seeds, and the maximum number of differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) appeared between CK and HEHP. KEGG analysis revealed that the upregulated DAPs were mainly enriched in the pathways related to protein synthesis and degradation such as "ribosome" and "proteasome," while the downregulated DAPs were mainly enriched in photosynthesis-related pathways. Furthermore, the maximum DAPs were annotated in carbohydrate metabolism. Some proteins identified as key enzymes of the glyoxylate cycle, the tricarboxylate cycle, glycolysis and the pentose phosphate pathway showed enhanced abundance in priming treatments. The activities of several key enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism were also enhanced by the priming treatments, especially the HEHP treatment. Real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed that the effect of priming is mainly reflected before sowing. In conclusion, the optimal effect of HEHP is to regulate the synthesis and degradation of proteins in seeds to meet the requirements of germination and initiate the utilization of seed storage reserves and respiratory metabolism. The present work expanded the understanding of the response mechanism of carrot seed germination to priming and the biological effects of high voltage electrostatic field.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Thoracic intervertebral foramen puncture is the key step for interventional therapy on the thoracic nerve roots or dorsal root ganglia. The anatomical features of the thoracic spine are complex, and puncture injury to the pleura, blood vessels, spinal cord, and other tissues may cause serious complications. The spatial anatomical characteristics and related parameters for thoracic intervertebral foramen puncture remain poorly understood. AIM: To observe and summarize the spatially applied anatomical characteristics for intervertebral foramen puncture on different vertebral segments. METHODS: A total of 88 patients (41 males and 47 females) who underwent thoracic minimally invasive interventional treatment at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from January 2019 to June 2020 were included. Computed tomography images of 167 thoracic vertebral segments scanned in the prone position were collected. The width of the intertransverse space (DP), the height of the rib neck/head above the lower transverse process (DR), the width of the lateral border of the articular process/lamina (WP), and the width of the posterior border of the vertebral body (WV) were measured. At the upper 1/3 of the intervertebral foramina, the horizontal inclination angle (α) from the lateral border of the articular process/lamina to the posterolateral border of the vertebral body was measured. The ratios DR/DP and WP/WV were calculated. The intervertebral foramen parameters were compared between segments. RESULTS: No rib head/neck occlusion (DR/DP > 0) was found in the intertransverse spaces of T1-2 and T12-L1. The incidence of occlusion for the upper thoracic segments (T1-5, n = 138), middle thoracic segments (T5-9, n = 116), and lower thoracic segments (T9-L1, n = 80) were 76.81%, 100%, and 82.50%, respectively. The incidence of occlusion for the middle thoracic segments was significantly higher than that for the upper and lower thoracic segments (P < 0.05). The incidence of > 1/2 occlusion (DR/DP > 1/2) for the upper, middle, and lower thoracic segments was 7.97%, 74.14%, and 32.50%, respectively. The incidence of > 1/2 occlusion for the middle thoracic segments was significantly higher than that for the upper and lower thoracic segments (P < 0.05). WP was longer than WV on T1-2 to T9-10 and shorter than WV on T10-11 to T12-L1. The horizontal puncture angle (α) into the external opening of the intervertebral foramina was positively correlated with the segments of the thoracic vertebrae from the cephalic to caudal portion (left: r = 0.772, P < 0.01; right: r = 0.771, P < 0.01), and the horizontal inclination angle for T11-12 and T12-L1 was 90°. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to identify the spatial impact of the rib head/neck on the puncture path of the intervertebral foramina and design appropriate puncture angles for different segments.

RESUMEN

By taking advantage of seeded polymer nanoparticles and strong photo energy absorption, we report CO2 laser impacting on water to produce cavitation at the air/water interface. Using a high-speed camera, three regimes (no cavitation, cavitation, and pseudo-cavitation) are identified within a broad range of nanoparticles concentration and size. The underlying correlation among cavitation, nanoparticles and temperature is revealed by the direct observation of spatiotemporal evolution of temperature using a thermal cameral. These findings indicate that nanoparticles not only act as preexisted nuclei to promote nucleation for cavitation, but also likely affect temperature to change the nucleation rate as well. Moreover, by exploiting a compound hexane/water interface, a novel core-shell cavitation is demonstrated. This approach might be utilized to attain and control cavitations by choosing nanoparticles and designing interfaces while operating at a lower laser intensity, for versatile technological applications in material science and medical surgery.

RESUMEN

Symptoms of refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are commonly encountered in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to analyze the data obtained from questionnaires, high-resolution manometry (HRM), and ambulatory impedance-pH monitoring in patients with persisting GERD symptoms and to explore the possible underlying causes for this clinical presentation. After completing the questionnaires, the selected patients underwent endoscopy, HRM, and ambulatory impedance-pH monitoring. Based on the results of these investigations, we divided the patients into 4 groups: reflux esophagitis (RE), hypersensitive esophagus (HE), functional heartburn (FH), and nonerosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (NERD). The data from 342 patients were analyzed. One hundred twenty-nine (37.72%) patients experienced refractory GERD symptoms related to acid reflux. The scores on some scales in the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) questionnaire differed significantly among groups (all P < 0.05). Liquid reflux occurred more frequently in patients with GERD (RE and NERD), while gas reflux was more common in non-GERD patients (FH and HE; all P < 0.05). The RE and NERD groups showed more percent bolus exposure time (BET) when upright (all P < 0.05). Acid exposure time (AET) in the RE and NERD groups was longer than that in the HE and FH groups (all P < 0.05). Fewer than half of the patient symptoms were related to acid reflux. The GSRS questionnaire may be an optimal indicator for patients with refractory GERD symptoms. BET and AET are useful indices to distinguish GERD from other diseases. Gas reflux is probably related to persisting symptoms in FH and HE patients.

RESUMEN

Take potable water sources in Linyi City Yunmeng Lake watershed as a case study, it obtains the nutrient export coefficient of land use by the export coefficient model and simulative rainfall experiment. On the basis of GIS and RS, it analyses the effect of the non-point source (NPS) pollution load because of the land-use change during the past 25 years. The result indicates that the TN increased from 3.77 x 10(3) t in 1986, to 4.45 x 10(3) t in 1995, to 5.5 x 10(3) t in 2010; As far as land-use type is concerned, the TN from farm-land increased year by year, the contribution rate is 80.11% in 1986, 82.60% in 1995 and 85.59% in 2010, the forestland and the grass-land load have a little change, but the contribution rate decreased gradually, the residential load increased by a large margin, however, the contribution rate is very little. As for the sub-basin, the higher the proportion of the farm-land is, the more the TN load increased. There is a significant positive correlation between the farm-land and the nitrogen (TN) load, so the farm-land is the sources of the nitrogen. Conversely, there are negative correlations between the forest-land, grass-land and the TN load; therefore, the forest-land and grass-land are the sinks of the nitrogen. Therefore, it can adjust the land-use structure to reduce and control the TN loss to water environmental pollution.
