RESUMEN

The emulsions formed by conventional surfactants have poor stability in high temperature and high salinity reservoirs, which limits the fluidity control ability of emulsion flooding systems. Hydroxyl sulfobetaine surfactants have excellent emulsifying properties and can maintain good activity under high temperature and high salinity conditions. In this study, an emulsion synergistic-stabilized by hydroxyl sulfobetaine surfactant LHSB and SiO2 nanoparticles was reported for the first time, and the feasibility of its enhanced oil recovery was investigated. The results show that the stability, temperature and salt resistance of the emulsion were significantly improved after adding nanoparticles, which positively affected the exploitation of harsh reservoirs. The synergistic-stabilized mechanism between LHSB and SiO2 nanoparticles was revealed by the measurements of zeta potential, surface tension and contact angle. Moreover, core flooding experiments reflect the emulsion synergistic-stabilized by LHSB and SiO2 nanoparticles can effectively enhance oil recovery by 11.41%. This study provides an emulsion flooding system with excellent performance for enhanced oil recovery in harsh reservoirs.

RESUMEN

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) threatens global poultry production, with genotype VII the most prevalent strain in China. However, little information is available regarding viral multiplication and pathogenicity based inoculation route. The objectives of this study were to sequence NDV VII isolates and to analyze their biological characteristics in detail. A total of 86 oral and cloacal swabs were collected from Shaanxi and Gansu provinces in northwest China. Identification of genotype VII NDV based on the M gene was performed by qPCR. Viral multiplication and pathogenicity were assessed as a function of route of infection. We observed increased morbidity and mortality using intravenous injection, whereas intranasal, intraocular, and cloacal infections resulted in slower progression and milder clinical disease, with viral proliferation obvious in different tissues. These results provide an important basis for the clinical control and prevention of NDV epidemics in poultry.

RESUMEN

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education emphasizes solving problems in authentic contexts and developing 21st-century skills. It also helps to cultivate individuals possessing scientific curiosity and innovative abilities. These capacities align with China's core literacy training. Recent years have seen K-12 STEM cases flourish nationally. However, little attention has been paid to the shared characteristics of these practices, and suggestions for implementing STEM in primary and secondary schools are scarce. This paper presents commonalities in STEM practices within China from a curriculum perspective and offers recommendations for implementation based on these attributes. Specifically, this study first constructed analytical metrics via the Delphi method to assess STEM cases. Next, 51 typical STEM teaching cases in different regions of China were analyzed using these metrics. Based upon the statistical results, five characteristics of STEM cases were summarized: China's STEM education has an unbalanced geographical distribution; current practices benchmark the need for innovative talent training; most instructional content is drawn from real-world problems, but interdisciplinary integration deserves closer focus; the cases featured rich teaching activities and were conducted in a project-based learning fashion with insufficient emphasis on mathematical applications; and China seems to be holistically promoting STEM education, especially through new technologies and supplementary materials. Findings should allow instructors to better understand the intricacies of STEM implementation and to promote successful STEM cases. Recommendations are also provided to optimize the localization of STEM education in China in order to cultivate innovative and interdisciplinary talent.

RESUMEN

The COVID-19 outbreak brought online learning to the forefront of education. Scholars have conducted many studies on online learning during the pandemic, but only a few have performed quantitative comparative analyses of students' online learning behavior before and after the outbreak. We collected review data from China's massive open online course platform called icourse.163 and performed social network analysis on 15 courses to explore courses' interaction characteristics before, during, and after the COVID-19 pan-demic. Specifically, we focused on the following aspects: (1) variations in the scale of online learning amid COVID-19; (2a) the characteristics of online learning interaction during the pandemic; (2b) the characteristics of online learning interaction after the pandemic; and (3) differences in the interaction characteristics of social science courses and natural science courses. Results revealed that only a small number of courses witnessed an uptick in online interaction, suggesting that the pandemic's role in promoting the scale of courses was not significant. During the pandemic, online learning interaction became more frequent among course network members whose interaction scale increased. After the pandemic, although the scale of interaction declined, online learning interaction became more effective. The scale and level of interaction in Electrodynamics (a natural science course) and Economics (a social science course) both rose during the pan-demic. However, long after the pandemic, the Economics course sustained online interaction whereas interaction in the Electrodynamics course steadily declined. This discrepancy could be due to the unique characteristics of natural science courses and social science courses.

RESUMEN

As a worldwide epidemic in the digital age, cyberbullying is a pertinent but understudied concern-especially from the perspective of language. Elucidating the linguistic features of cyberbullying is critical both to preventing it and to cultivating ethical and responsible digital citizens. In this study, a mixed-method approach integrating lexical feature analysis, sentiment polarity analysis, and semantic network analysis was adopted to develop a deeper understanding of cyberbullying language. Five cyberbullying cases on Chinese social media were analyzed to uncover explicit and implicit linguistic features. Results indicated that cyberbullying comments had significantly different linguistic profiles than non-bullying comments and that explicit and implicit bullying were distinct. The content of cases further suggested that cyberbullying language varied in the use of words, types of cyberbullying, and sentiment polarity. These findings offer useful insight for designing automatic cyberbullying detection tools for Chinese social networking platforms. Implications also offer guidance for regulating cyberbullying and fostering ethical and responsible digital citizens.

RESUMEN

Melanoma Differentiation-Associated protein 5 (MDA5) is a cytoplasmic sensor for viral invasion and plays an important role in regulation of the immune response against Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in chickens. MDA5 was used as an adjuvant to enhance the humoral immune response against influenza virus. In the current study, truncated chicken MDA5 [1-483 aa, chMDA5(483aa)] expressed by recombinant adenovirus was administered to specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chickens to improve the immune response induced by inactivated NDV vaccine. A total of 156 SPF chickens were divided into six groups, and after two rounds of immunization, the humoral immune response, cell-mediated immune (CMI) response and the protective efficacy of the vaccines against NDV challenge were evaluated. The results showed that co-administration of chMDA5(483aa) expressed by adenovirus increased the NDV-specific antibody response by 1.7 times and chickens received chMDA5(483aa) also gained a higher level of CMI response. Consistently, the protective efficacy of the inactivated NDV vaccine against virulent NDV (vNDV) challenge was improved by co-administrate with chMDA5(483aa), as indicated by the reduced morbidity and pathological lesions, lower levels of viral load in organs and reduced virus shedding. Our study demonstrated that chMDA5(433aa) expressed by adenovirus could enhance the immune efficacy of inactivated NDV vaccine in chickens and could be a potential adjuvant candidate in developing chicken NDV vaccines.
