RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the study was to assess and compare the cranial base morphology in long face and short face. METHODOLOGY: The study comprises 64 individuals (32 in each group). Group I consists of individual's with long face and group II comprises individuals with short face. Individuals were classified into groups with the help of lateral cephalometric parameters like Gonial Angle, Anterior facial height, Posterior facial height, Jarabak's Ratio, and Y-axis. Linear and angular measurement in the cranial base was taken. RESULT: The results showed statistically significant difference in Sella-Nasion, Sella-Basion and Nasion-Sella-Basion between the two groups. Sella-Spinoethmoidal suture, Nasion-Spinoethmoidal suture, Spinoethmoidal suture-Sella-Basion, Frankfurt Horizontal-Sella-Nasion, Frankfurt horizontal-Sella-Basion, Frankfurt horizontal-Sella-Spinoethmoidal suture showed no statistically significant difference among the groups. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that individuals with long face have a greater Sella-Nasion, Sella-Basion, Nasion-Sella-Basion compared to individuals with short face.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) is gradually becoming the treatment of choice to correct the transverse dimension, exceeding the limitations of conventional RME devices. One of the key factors for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning apart from a stable occlusion is a balanced and aesthetic facial profile that is influenced by maxillary expansion. Similarly, it also affects the anatomy and physiology of the nasal cavity since nasal airflow is a continuous stimulus for lowering of the palate and for lateral maxillary growth. Hence, there is a need to conduct further research on the effects of MARPE on the facial soft tissues as well as the airway, enabling the orthodontist to reach a more accurate diagnosis as well as aid in the treatment planning process. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This retrospective three-dimensional study was planned and designed with the objective of measuring facial soft tissue and airway changes in individuals treated with mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) using CBCT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was carried out on CBCT records of 10 patients in the age group of 18-30 years. These records were then imported into Romexis software and calibrated. The facial soft tissue and airway parameters were measured for each individual at selected landmarks and compared before and after expansion. RESULT: Statistically significant differences in the soft tissue parameters were observed, which included an increased H-angle, increased soft tissue subnasal to H-line and a decreased soft palate surface area after MARPE.

RESUMEN

Background: Clinically, adhesion failure is the most critical problem because of the failure of the optimal bond between denture base and the soft liner. Objectives: This study was performed to assess the tensile bond strength of two temporary soft liners to different denture base resins. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight blocks with 16 samples each of heat-cured denture base resin of three different types were fabricated from custom-made stainless steel die after de-waxing mold space. Surface roughening of each acrylic resin specimens which bonds with soft liners was done by abrading the surface and to this temporary soft liners (Perma soft denture liner and Pro soft denture liner) were bonded. The universal testing machine was used to test the tensile strength of bonded space. The results were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Software IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 20.0. (Armonk, NY, USA: IBM Corp.) using the Chi-square test, Post hoc Tukey's HSD, and two way ANOVA tests. Results: It was observed that Perma soft was prevalent over Pro-soft denture liner on the basis of tensile bond strength with all three different types of denture base resins. Trevalon HI and acrylic composite exhibited better bond strength results with both Perma soft and GC Pro-soft denture liner as compared to other types of denture base resins. Conclusion: Perma soft had a better bond strength compared to Pro-soft denture liner in bonding modified denture base and conventional resins.

Oral diseases are the complex host responses composed of a broad array of inflammatory cells, and cytokines, chemokines, and mediators derived from the cells resident in the gingival tissues, as well as from the emigrating inflammatory cells. A chronic polymicrobial challenge to the local host tissues triggers this response, which under certain circumstances, and in a subset of the population, leads to the progressing soft and hard tissue destruction that characterizes periodontitis. The red complex has been proposed as a pathogenic consortium, consisting of P. gingivalis, T. denticola, and T. forsythia. This review has attempted to examine the virulence potential and determinants of these commensal opportunists.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The aim of this study was to estimate the detoxification status of serum and saliva by assessing the serum and salivary Vitamin C in oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 90 subjects, 30 subjects with oral potentially malignant disorders, 30 subjects with oral cancer, and 30 healthy subjects (controls) were included in the study. Serum and saliva were collected and levels of Vitamin C were assessed. Data obtained was analyzed using ANOVA test for the comparison between the groups. Post hoc Tukey's analysis was used for the comparison of the two study groups to the control group. Correlation between the groups was done using Pearson's correlation coefficient test. RESULTS: The mean serum and salivary Vitamin C levels were decreased significantly in potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer when compared to healthy subjects. CONCLUSIONS: As significant reduction of Vitamin C is seen in saliva, it can be stated that saliva can be used as a reliable, noninvasive biomarker in diagnosis and management of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer.
