Accessory plantaris muscle can result in symptomatic hardware impingement following ACL reconstruction.

Anatomic variants of lower extremity musculature, such as the gastrocnemius, popliteus, and the plantaris have been well described in the literature. The impact of these anatomical variations on clinical outcomes depends on their proximity to and effects on adjacent anatomical structures, particularly in the context of planned surgical procedures in the region. While the presence of the accessory plantaris is rare, no previous cases have described it negatively affecting surgical outcomes to our knowledge. We present a case of a 42-year-old patient who underwent an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using a femoral Endobutton for graft fixation positioned just beneath an accessory plantaris, leading to impingement and persistent knee pain. This case highlights the importance of understanding anatomical variations when planning and performing surgical procedures and suggests the need for further research in this area.

Acanthamoeba on Sabouraud's agar from a patient with keratitis.

A 25-year-old transgender patient came with complaints of watery discharge, red eye and photophobia in the left eye since 2 days. The patient had a history of wearing colored contact lenses since 4 years and cleaning the lens with tap water. Culture of lenses on Mac Conkey and blood agar yielded Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Sabouroud's agar showed yeast cells and double-walled cysts of Acanthamoeba species. On further incubation of Sabouroud's agar, the cysts transformed to trophozoites. Parallel results were obtained on tap water agar. The previous therapy of moxifloxacin was changed to local Neosporin application.

Salmonella brain abscess in an infant.

Brain abscess is an uncommon and serious life-threatening infection in children. Focal intracranial infections caused by Salmonella spp. in this age group are also rare. We report the case of a 4-month-old male infant with a frontoparietal brain abscess caused by Salmonella typhimurium, the presence of which was not suspected clinically.

Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of clinical isolates of non-fermentative bacteria.

152 nonfermentative bacteria were isolated from a total number of 965 clinical samples processed routinely in the laboratory of Microbiology Department, M.K.C.G Medical College in South Orissa accounting to a prevalence rate of 15.75%. Pseudomonas spp. (both pigmented and non-pigmented strains) were isolated in maximum percentage (73.6%) followed by Acinetobacter spp. (19.7%) and Alkaligenes faecalis (4.6%). Rarely encountered species were Eikenella corrodens (1.3%) and Stenotrophomonas maltophila (0.6%). Pus from various sites was the major source (116; 76%). 81% of all isolates were sensitive to amikacin and 74% to ofloxacin. Sensitivity to cefotaxime, ciprofloxacin, tobramycin, gentamicin and netlimycin ranged from 53% to 68%. Least effective drugs were carbenicillin and ceftriaxone (48% each).
