RESUMEN
Mycetoma is a devastating neglected tropical infection of the subcutaneous tissues. It is caused by fungal and bacterial pathogens recognized as eumycetoma and actinomycetoma, respectively. Mycetoma treatment involves diagnosing the causative microorganism as a prerequisite to prescribing a proper medication. Current therapy of fungal eumycetoma causative agents, such as Madurella mycetomatis, consists of long-term antifungal medication with itraconazole followed by surgery, yet with usually unsatisfactory clinical outcomes. Actinomycetoma, on the contrary, usually responds to treatment with co-trimoxazole and amikacin. Therefore, there is a pressing need to discover novel broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents to circumvent the time-consuming and costly diagnosis. Using the resazurin assay, a series of 23 naphthylisoquinoline (NIQ) alkaloids and related naphthoquinones were subjected to in vitro screening against two fungal strains of M. mycetomatis and three bacterial strains of Actinomadura madurae and A. syzygii. Seven NIQs, mostly dimers, showed promising in vitro activities against at least one strain of the mycetoma-causative pathogens, while the naphthoquinones did not show any activity. A synthetic NIQ dimer, 8,8'''-O,O-dimethylmichellamine A (18), inhibited all tested fungal and bacterial strains (IC50 = 2.81-12.07 µg/mL). One of the dimeric NIQs, michellamine B (14), inhibited a strain of M. mycetomatis and significantly enhanced the survival rate of Galleria mellonella larvae infected with M. mycetomatis at concentrations of 1 and 4 µg/mL, without being toxic to the uninfected larvae. As a result, broad-spectrum dimeric NIQs like 14 and 18 with antimicrobial activity are considered hit compounds that could be worth further optimization to develop novel lead antimycetomal agents.

Paradoxical embolism occurs when a thrombus crosses an intracardiac defect into the systemic circulation. Here, we present the case of a 35-yearold male kidney transplant recipient with a cerebral paradoxical embolism associated with a spontaneous venous thromboembolism. This patient had recurrent deep venous thrombosis and showering emboli to the lung and paradoxically to the brain through patent foramen ovale, and we treated him successfully. The role of bubble echocardiography was essential in diagnosis to avoid contrast-induced nephropathy. This is the first successfully managed case of a kidney transplant recipient with recurrent idiopathic deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and cerebral paradoxical embolism. Bubble echocardiography was an excellent alternative to contrast angiography to avoid nephrotoxicity. Vitamin K antagonists are superior to direct oral anticoagulants, especially among nonadherent/noncompliant patients.

One of the most common malformations of the gastrointestinal tract is Meckel diverticulum (MD). MD complications can range from minor to major, such as intestinal obstruction, intussusception, hemorrhage, ulceration, vesicodiverticular fistulae, and tumors. Bleeding from ectopic gastric mucosa is more common in children than in adults. In the current case, MD in a 25-y-old man was diagnosed by 99mTc-pertechnetate scanning. 99mTc-pertechnetate scanning helps to diagnose MD noninvasively and has a potential role in the evaluation of MD even in adults.

PRCIS: A zigzag mode of application effectively lowered IOP in glaucoma patients at 6 months with a low incidence of complications despite the longer application time. Comparative studies to assess the potential advantages of treating a larger area of ciliary body with this approach are needed. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcome of micropulse transscleral laser cyclophotocoagulation with zigzag mode of application in adult glaucomatous patients. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A prospective single-arm clinical trial included a series of 34 eyes of 30 consecutive patients who underwent micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) with zigzag technique at a private ophthalmology center. The trial was conducted from March 16, 2021 to April 12, 2021. Patients who had at least 6 months of follow-up were included. MP-TSCPC probe was moved for 2 mm perpendicular to a line 3 mm parallel to the cornea. This aims to cover the largest circumference of the area supposed to hinder the cilliary body. The probe is moved over 3 quadrants for 90 seconds for each quadrant (total 270 s). Defined as an intraocular pressure (IOP) of 6 to 21 mm Hg or a reduction of IOP by 30%. Failure was defined as an inability to meet the criteria for success or need for retreatment. RESULTS: The mean age of involved patients was 52.9 (±SD: 3.9) years old. The mean IOP before MP-TSCPC was 37.47 (±SD: 11.08) mm Hg, which was significantly reduced to 17.7 (±SD: 7.4) mm Hg in the last follow-up visit at 6 months. Number of medications showed significant reduction from mean 3.44 (±SD: 0.99) to 1.91 (±SD: 1.26) in the last follow-up. Success rate was found to be 88% (30 out of 34 eyes) at the final follow-up, where 9 cases showed complete success (26.5%), whereas 21 (61.8%) cases showed qualified success. Despite the relatively higher parameters used in our study, no cases reported postoperative complications apart from only 1 case of reduced visual acuity by 1 line. CONCLUSIONS: A zigzag mode of application effectively lowered IOP in glaucoma patients at 6 months with a low incidence of complications despite the longer application time. Comparative studies to assess the potential advantages of treating a larger area of ciliary body with this approach are needed.

Mobile edge computational power faces the difficulty of balancing the energy consumption of many devices and workloads as science and technology advance. Most related research focuses on exploiting edge server computing performance to reduce mobile device energy consumption and task execution time during task processing. Existing research, however, shows that there is no adequate answer to the energy consumption balances between multi-device and multitasking. The present edge computing system model has been updated to address this energy consumption balance problem. We present a blockchain-based analytical method for the energy utilization balance optimization problem of multi-mobile devices and multitasking and an optimistic scenario on this foundation. An investigation of the corresponding approximation ratio is performed. Compared to the total energy demand optimization method and the random algorithm, many simulation studies have been carried out. Compared to the random process, the testing findings demonstrate that the suggested greedy algorithm can improve average performance by 66.59 percent in terms of energy balance. Furthermore, when the minimum transmission power of the mobile device is between five and six dBm, the greedy algorithm nearly achieves the best solution when compared to the brute force technique under the classical task topology.
RESUMEN
The Ministry of Public Health in Yemen continues the implementation of school and community-based preventive chemotherapy with praziquantel and albendazole for the control and elimination of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths (STH). The latest remapping to update the distribution of schistosomiasis and STH was conducted seven years ago. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence, intensity and associated risk factors of Schistosoma mansoni and STH among schoolchildren in An-Nadirah District, Ibb Governorate, Yemen. A cross-sectional study was carried out among schoolchildren aged 6-15 years in four selected schools. Biological, demographic, socioeconomic and environmental data were collected using a pre-tested questionnaire. S. mansoni and STH eggs were detected and counted by the microscopic examination of Kato-Katz fecal smears. Out of 417 schoolchildren, 17.0% were infected with at least one intestinal helminth. Prevalence of S. mansoni and STH were 6.5% and 9.1%, respectively. The most prevalent parasite among STH was Ascaris lumbricoides (8.4%). Unemployed fathers (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) = 3.2; 95% Confidence interval (CI): 1.23, 8.52; P = 0.018), eating exposed food (AOR: 2.9; 95%CI = 1.24, 6.89; P = 0.014), not washing hands before eating and after defecation (AOR: 4.8; 95%CI = 1.77, 12.81; P = 0.002), and schools located close to water stream (AOR: 22.1; 95%CI = 5.12, 95.46; P <0.001) were independent risk factors of ascariasis. Swimming in ponds/stream (AOR: 3.9; 95%CI = 1.63, 9.55; P = 0.002), and schools close to the stream (AOR: 24.7; 95%CI = 3.05, 200.07; P = 0.003) were independent risk factors of intestinal schistosomiasis. The present study does not indicate a reduction in the prevalence of intestinal schistosomiasis in this rural area since the latest remapping conducted in 2014, although ascariasis was reduced by half. The prevalence of the two parasites was highly focal in areas close to the valley, suggesting a significant role of the stream in sustaining and accelerating the parasitic infection. Children practicing swimming and having poor hygienic practices were at high exposure to S. mansoni and A. lumbricoides, respectively. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene intervention, school-based health education, and snail control, in addition to mass drug administration, will help in the interruption of transmission of schistosomiasis and STH.

We present an 18-year-old female from South Sudan presented with right fingertips ulceration and black discolouration associated with bilateral wrist/metacarpophalangeal joints pain for five months. The ulceration began at the tip of the right middle finger and gradually progressed to involve the rest of the hand and was associated with agonizing pain. A Doppler study of the right upper limb revealed thrombosis of the antecubital portion of the basilar, ulnar, and part of the distal radial arteries. Blood investigations showed high anti-CCP, doubtful rheumatoid factor titre and ANA titre of 1:320 with coarse and nucleated cells; however, all ANA parameters were negative. A definitive diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis complicated by rheumatoid vasculitis was made. Unfortunately, the middle finger could not be preserved and ended up amputated, and the patient was commenced on steroids, DMARDs and warfarin. The patient responded very well to the management plan with pain alleviation, ulcers healing and clot resolution.

Diabetic myonecrosis is an uncommon complication related to long-standing poorly controlled diabetes. A 33-year-old Sudanese male patient with type one diabetes presented with progressive, severe bilateral thigh pain with low-grade fever. Laboratory results show hyperglycemia with ketonuria and elevated creatine kinase but normal white cell blood count. The patient was diagnosed initially with diabetic ketoacidosis with pyomyositis and received analgesic and insulin; the patient partially improved. After the second evaluation, bilateral thigh MRI was requested and shows diffuse edema involving the medial muscle group of the upper third of the right side with intramuscular facial edema, appearing as low signal in T1 and high signal in T2 and fat suppression images with no evidence of collection or abscess. Diagnosis of diabetic myonecrosis was made. The patient was managed conservatively and discharge on aspirin with full recovery.
RESUMEN
ABSTRACT: A 77-year-old man with a case of hyperthyroidism with high parathyroid hormone (41 pmol/L), low vitamin D, and normal thyroid-stimulating hormone. The SPECT/CT fused images confirmed the evidence of retrotracheal hyperdense mass approximately 1.0 cm of diameter below the lower pole of the right thyroid lobe with increased uptake, highly suggestive of typical parathyroid adenoma. The most significant point is that there was an incidental finding: high focal uptake in the sellar/suprasellar region corresponding to heterogenous soft tissue lesion suspicious for pituitary adenoma. According to the previous scans, nuclear medicine, CT scan, and the MRI scan indicated pituitary adenoma.

Intestinal schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease, causing morbidity and mortality in tropical and subtropical countries. Despite the frequent implementation of mass drug administration with praziquantel, the reinfection with Schistosoma mansoni is still common in Yemen. In addition, there is a scarcity of information on the impact of S. mansoni on nutritional status and anemia among schoolchildren. The present study aimed to determine prevalence and risk factors of intestinal schistosomiasis and investigate its impact on nutritional status and anemia among schoolchildren in Sana'a Governorate, Yemen. It was conducted in 2018 on 445 schoolchildren aged 5-15 years. Biodata, socio-economic, demographic, behavioral and environmental data were collected using a standard questionnaire. S. mansoni was identified and quantified by microscopic examination of Kato-Katz fecal smear. Hemoglobin concentration and anthropometric measurements were estimated using standard methods. The prevalence of S. mansoni was higher in Al-Haimah Al-Dakheliah (33.9%) than Bani Mater (1.4%). Household without tap water (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) = 2.9, 95% Confidence interval (CI): 1.12, 7.55, P = 0.028) was the independent risk factor of the infection. The prevalence of wasting and stunting was 25.0% (95%CI: 21.2%, 29.2%) and 45.8% (95%CI: 41.2%, 50.5%), respectively. The prevalence of underweight among schoolchildren aged 5-10 years was 27.3% (95%CI: 21.9%, 33.4%). The prevalence of anemia was 31.7% (95%CI: 27.5%, 36.2%) with 0.5%, 21.1% and 10.1% being severe, moderate and mild anemia, respectively. S. mansoni (AOR = 4.1, 95%CI: 2.16, 7.84, P < 0.001) and early adolescence (AOR = 6.8, 95%CI: 4.26, 10.82, P < 0.001) were independent predictors of stunting among schoolchildren. The early adolescent schoolchildren (AOR = 3.1, 95%CI: 1.86, 4.97, P < 0.001) and children from families with low (AOR = 2.1, 95%CI: 1.01, 4.15, P = 0.046) or moderate wealth (AOR = 2.3, 95%CI: 1.11, 4.77, P = 0.026) were significantly more wasted. Early adolescence (AOR = 1.8, 95%CI:1.14, 2.78, P = 0.011), female (AOR = 1.6, 95%CI: 1.03, 2.43, P = 0.038) and Al-Haimah Al-Dakheliah District (AOR = 3.4, 95%CI: 1.20, 9.55, P = 0.021) were independent risk factors for anemia. The study findings indicate highly focal prevalence of schistosomiasis in Sana'a Governorate with a public health significance that varies from low to high risk. Approximately half of schoolchildren were stunted, which was associated with S. mansoni infection and early adolescence. One quarter of schoolchildren were wasted with early adolescent schoolchildren and children from poor families being at high risk of wasting. Anemia was a moderate public health threat affecting the female and the early adolescent schoolchildren. The study suggests the implementation of control measures to combat schistosomiasis and integrated diseases control programmes to improve the health status of schoolchildren in Sana'a Governorate.

The design of solid-state lighting is vital, as numerous metrics are involved in their exact positioning, and as it is utilized in various processes, ranging from intelligent buildings to the internet of things (IoT). This work aims to determine the power and delay spread from the light source to the receiver plane. The positions of the light source and receiver were used for power estimation. We focus on analog orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) in visible light communication (VLC) and assess the area under the curve (AUC). The proposed system was designed using modulation techniques (i.e., quadrature amplitude modulation; QAM) for visible light communication (VLC) and pulse-width modulation (PWM) for dimming sources. For the positioning and spreading of brightness, the proof-of-concept was weighted equally over the entire area. Therefore, the receiver plane was analyzed, in order to measure the power of each light-emitting diode (LED) in a given area, using the delayed mean square error (MSE). A framework was applied for the placement of LEDs, using full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) parameters with varying distances. Then, the received power was confirmed. The results show that the AUC using DRMS values for LEDs significantly increased (by 30%) when the number of source LEDs was changed from four to three. These results confirm that our system, associated with the simple linear lateration estimator, can achieve better energy consumption.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Patients with psychiatric disorders can be vulnerable to oral diseases due to the adverse effects of medications and disease per se. The aim of this study is to assess oral health status, self-perceived dental needs, and barriers to utilization of dental services along with evaluation of intervention urgency among psychiatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 165 individuals were examined at the psychiatric outpatient department of a tertiary care center. Clinical examination [dentition status and community periodontal index (CPI) modified] was done according to the World Health Organization Basic Oral Health Surveys, 2013. Other information was collected by direct interview and all the data were recorded on a prestructured, validated pro forma. Data were analyzed using SPSS Software. The statistical significance was determined by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and level of significance was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS: Although decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) and CPI-modified scores increased with increase in duration of illness, the difference was not statistically significant. Evaluation of self-reported attributes revealed that the majority of the individuals had reported dental pain (34.6%) as their dental problem, 39.6% visit dentist only when there is a dental problem, and 41.7% did not felt any need to visit dentist. The ANOVA of DMFT in relation to duration of illness (P > 0.062) and CPI-modified scores (P > 0.078) were not statistically significant. Although when intervention urgency was evaluated, 70.3% needed prompt treatment depending on their oral health assessment. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that oral health concerns of this marginalized section of the population are unrecognized and should be given prominence by psychiatrists.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: The clock drawing test (CDT) is frequently used to detect changes in cognition. Multiple scales of varying length have been published to assess performance. The aim of this study is to compare the CDT performance measured by three scales among a sample of nondemented patients on renal dialysis and identify the variables that affect performance. Methodology. This is a cross-sectional study performed at the dialysis unit at King Saud University Medical City. Eighty-nine dialysis patients performed the CDT. The CDT was scored by the methods of Rouleau et al. (RCS 10-point), Babins et al. (BCS 18-point), and the MoCA (MCS 3-point). Regression models were used to determine influencing demographic and dialysis variables. Scores were then correlated, and a combined factor analysis of scale components was done. RESULTS: Females represented 44.6%, the mean (SD) age was 49.99 (15.49) years, and education duration was 10.29 (5.5) years. Dialysis vintage was 55.81 (62.91) months. The scores for the MCS, RCS, and BCS were 2.18 (1.08), 6.67 (3.07), and 11.8 (5.5), respectively, with significant correlation (P < 0.0001). In all scales, increasing age was associated with a lower score (each P < 0.0001). The scores increased with increasing education (each P < 0.0001). Diabetics had a lower score on both the BCS and MCS by 2.56 (SE 1.2) (P = 0.035) and 0.71 (P = 0.003) points, respectively. However, only age and years of education were significant in the multivariable analysis. In factor analysis, two shared factors appeared between the three scales: hand and number placement and the clock face. CONCLUSION: Age and education influence the performance on the CDT, and factors diverged into executive and visuospatial components. The MCS is likely to yield useful information but should be interpreted as part of the MoCA.

Interventional oncology represents a relatively new clinical discipline based upon minimally invasive therapies applicable to almost every human organ and disease. Over the last several decades, rapidly evolving research developments have introduced a newer generation of treatment devices, reagents, and image-guidance systems to expand the armamentarium of interventional oncology across a wide spectrum of disease sites, offering potential cure, control, or palliative care for many types of cancer patients. Due to the widespread use of locoregional procedures, a comprehensive review of the methodologic and technical considerations to optimize patient selection with the aim of performing a safe procedure is mandatory. This article summarizes the expert discussion and report from the Mediterranean Interventional Oncology Live Congress (MIOLive 2020) held in Rome, Italy, integrating evidence-reported literature and experience-based perceptions as a means for providing guidance on prudent ways to reduce complications. The aim of the paper is to provide an updated guiding tool not only to residents and fellows but also to colleagues approaching locoregional treatments.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Oxidative processes might increase in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) according to the current literature. Oxidative stress (OS) is a risk factor of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications, which are major causes of mortality among ESRD patients. Haemodialysis (HD) is life-saving procedure, nevertheless it is an active chronic inflammatory status that could augment cardiovascular disease and increase mortality. Gum Arabic (GA) has been claimed to act as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent in experimental studies and clinical trials. Therefore, we assumed GA supplementation among haemodialysis patients would reduce oxidative stress and consequently reduce the state of chronic inflammatory activation associated with haemodialysis. METHODS: Forty end-stage renal failure (ESRF) patients aged 18-80 years who were on regular haemodialysis in Arif Renal Center, Omdurman, Sudan, were recruited. All recruited patients met the inclusion criteria and signed informed consent prior to enrolment. The patients received 30 g/day of GA for 12 weeks. C-reactive protein (CRP) and complete blood count (CBC) were measured as baseline and monthly. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured before and after GA intake. Ethical approval from the National Medicines and Poisons Board was obtained. RESULTS: Gum Arabic significantly augmented total antioxidant capacity level (P < 0.001) (95% CI, 0.408-0.625) and also attenuated oxidative marker MDA and C-reactive protein (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: GA has revealed potent antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties in haemodialysis patients. Oral digestion of GA (30 g/day) decreased oxidative stress and inflammatory markers among haemodialysis patients. Trial registration. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03214692, registered 11 July 2017 (prospective registration).

Identification and molecular characterization of Babesia gibsoni proteins with potential antigenic properties are crucial for the development and validation of the serodiagnostic method. In this study, we isolated a cDNA clone encoding a novel B. gibsoni 76-kDa protein by immunoscreening of the parasite cDNA library. Computer analysis revealed that the protein presents a glutamic acid-rich region in the C-terminal. Therefore, the protein was designated as B. gibsoni glutamic acid-rich protein (BgGARP). A BLASTp analysis of a translated BgGARP polypeptide demonstrated that the peptide shared a significant homology with a 200-kDa protein of Babesia bigemina and Babesia bovis. A truncated BgGARP cDNA (BgGARPt) encoding a predicted 13-kDa peptide was expressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli), and mouse antisera against the recombinant protein were used to characterize a corresponding native protein. The antiserum against recombinant BgGARPt (rBgGARPt) recognized a 140-kDa protein in the lysate of infected erythrocytes, which was detectable in the cytoplasm of the parasites by confocal microscopic observation. In addition, the specificity and sensitivity of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with rBgGARPt were evaluated using B. gibsoni-infected dog sera and specific pathogen-free (SPF) dog sera. Moreover, 107 serum samples from dogs clinically diagnosed with babesiosis were examined using ELISA with rBgGARPt. The results showed that 86 (80.4%) samples were positive by rBgGARPt-ELISA, which was comparable to IFAT and PCR as reference test. Taken together, these results demonstrate that BgGARP is a suitable serodiagnostic antigen for detecting antibodies against B. gibsoni in dogs.

Exposure to arsenic via drinking water is considered as a worldwide problem. Studies have shown that arsenic exposure during pregnancy affects embryogenesis and offspring development in rats and mice. Zinc as a micronutrient regulates many physiological functions, including an antioxidative role under various toxic conditions. However, studies on the perinatal protective effect of zinc on offspring need further attention. The present study was designed to evaluate the potential protective role of zinc in mitigating the adverse effects in the offspring of arsenic exposure during pregnancy. The arsenic (40mg/kg body weight) and zinc (4% w/v) doses formed the only drinking fluid source for the experimental groups of dams during the perinatal period of the experiment. The early development of sensory motor coordination reflexes together with morphological development in the male pups was measured during the weaning period. In adolescence, the offspring were tested for their motor behavior. The enzyme γ-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) and the oxidative stress indices like reduced glutathione (GSH) and lipid peroxidation (TBARS) were also estimated in the serum of the young adult male mice. Perinatal arsenic exposure caused depletion in body weight gain, delay in morphological development and retardation in the development of all sensory motor reflexes of the pups. In young adults, significant decrease in motor behavior with significant decrease in GSH level in the serum was observed. On the other hand, γ-GT and TBARS were significantly increased in the serum due to arsenic treatment. However, animals exposed to arsenic in the presence of zinc showed a remarkable ameliorating effect of zinc on all observed teratological and biochemical arsenic toxicity in male offspring. It was observed that zinc has an antioxidative role in the perinatal toxicity of arsenic. It is concluded from the present study that zinc consumed during the perinatal period of pregnancy can ameliorate the possible toxicities of arsenic exposure in the offspring by acting as an ameliorative supplement.

Itraconazole (ITZ) crystalline nanoparticles were prepared using relatively simple, low-cost sonoprecipitation technique, in which both the solvent and antisolvent were organic in nature. The effect of stabilizer type (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, Inutec SP1®, and pluronic F127), drying method (oven and freeze drying) and matrix former used (Avicel PH101, and Aerosil®200) on the dissolution performance as a key characteristic of nanocrystals was evaluated. In 10 min, all of the prepared nanocrystals showed 3.77-8.59 times improvement in percent drug dissolved compared to pure ITZ. Concerning the effect of stabilizer type, the following rank order can be given: pluronic F127 ≥ hydroxypropyl cellulose ≥ hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) > inutec SP1. Freeze-dried ITZ nanocrystals containing Avicel PH 101 showed better dissolution rate compared to other nanocrystals. The chemical structure of itraconazole nanocrystals was not changed as revealed by Fourier transform infrared. Stability study of selected nanocrystals (F5, F7, and F8) revealed physical and chemical stability of F7 and F8, while a decrease in dissolution rate of F5 was observed (although being chemically stable) when stored under high relative humidity conditions. Although inutec is less potent than pluronic F127 and HPMC regarding their effect on dissolution rate enhancement, it is equipotent to pluronic F127 in preserving the rapid drug dissolution.

Lead (Pb) toxicity is one of the commonest environmental problems in our life; it causes many reversible and irreversible changes in our tissues. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) on treatment of oxidative stress caused by lead poisoning in rabbits. Lead acetate (Pb(Ac)(2)) was orally administrated to rabbits for 21 days and then treated by DMSA for another 21 days. The effect of this treatment was investigated by measuring 2 of the apoptosis proteins p53 and Bcl2. Also, the auto-oxidation rate and their histopathological changes in brain, bone and liver were investigated. Hemoglobin auto-oxidation rate is measured as well as histopathological study of liver. Our data indicate that exposure to rabbits to Pb(Ac)(2) caused a significant increase of apoptosis protein p53 and decrease in the antiapoptotic BCl2 proteins.
