BACKGROUND: The KangDuo Surgical Robot (KD-SR) is a newly developed surgical robot. OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) using the KD-SR with those of the da Vinci Si Surgical System (DV-SS-Si). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A prospective double-center noninferiority randomized controlled trial was conducted among 18-75-yr-old patients with suspected T1-2N0M0 prostate cancer (PCa) scheduled for RARP. INTERVENTION: RARP with the KD-SR (KD-RARP) versus RARP with the DV-SS-Si (DV-RARP). OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: The primary outcome was surgical success, defined as follows: surgery can be performed according to the established protocol, without switching to other surgical modalities, and without secondary surgery due to surgical complications after surgery. The secondary outcome was short-term functional and oncological outcomes. The noninferiority threshold was set at 10%. RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS: Eighty patients were enrolled, while the full analysis set finally included 79 patients (40 with KD-RARP and 39 with DV-RARP). The success rate was 100% in both groups. We could not find differences in urinary continence rate at 1, 2, 3, and 4 wk after catheter removal between the groups (p > 0.05). The rate of Clavien-Dindo grade II adverse events was 20% in the KD-RARP group and 17.9% in the DV-RARP group (p = 0.82), and no grade ≥III adverse events occurred. The median operation time was significantly longer in the KD-RARP group than in the DV-RARP group (177.5 vs 145 min, p = 0.012). The main limitations were the short follow-up period and that survival was not considered as the primary outcome. CONCLUSIONS: The KD-SR is a viable option for RARP, with acceptable short-term outcomes compared with the DV-SS-Si for T1-2 PCa. PATIENT SUMMARY: This is the first prospective randomized controlled trial to compare the KangDuo Surgical Robot (KD-SR) versus the da Vinci Si Surgical System (DV-SS-Si) for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, which determines that the KD-SR is noninferior to the DV-SS-Si regarding safety and efficacy for T1-T2 prostate cancer.

Computational imaging methods empower modern microscopes to produce high-resolution, large field-of-view, aberration-free images. Fourier ptychographic microscopy can increase the space-bandwidth product of conventional microscopy, but its iterative reconstruction methods are prone to parameter selection and tend to fail under excessive aberrations. Spatial Kramers-Kronig methods can analytically reconstruct complex fields, but is limited by aberration or providing extended resolution enhancement. Here, we present APIC, a closed-form method that weds the strengths of both methods while using only NA-matching and darkfield measurements. We establish an analytical phase retrieval framework which demonstrates the feasibility of analytically reconstructing the complex field associated with darkfield measurements. APIC can retrieve complex aberrations of an imaging system with no additional hardware and avoids iterative algorithms, requiring no human-designed convergence metrics while always obtaining a closed-form complex field solution. We experimentally demonstrate that APIC gives correct reconstruction results where Fourier ptychographic microscopy fails when constrained to the same number of measurements. APIC achieves 2.8 times faster computation using image tile size of 256 (length-wise), is robust against aberrations compared to Fourier ptychographic microscopy, and capable of addressing aberrations whose maximal phase difference exceeds 3.8π when using a NA 0.25 objective in experiment.

RESUMEN

Thymoma is a rare malignancy with usual location in the antero-superior mediastinum. Ectopic cervical thymoma (ECT) is an extremely rare tumor that originates from ectopic tissue, and is caused by the aberrant migration of the embryonic thymus. Our patient was a 56-year-old man who had a nodular lesion in the neck for several years. Computed tomography and Enhanced magnetic resonance imaging were performed. He underwent surgery, and a histological examination resulted in a diagnosis of type AB thymoma.

Due to the broadband response and low selectivity of external light, negative photoconductivity (NPC) effect holds great potential applications in photoelectric devices. Herein, different photoresponsive carbon nanodots (CDs) are prepared from diverse precursors and the broadband response from the NPC CDs are utilized to achieve the optoelectronic logic gates and optical imaging for the first time. In detail, the mcu-CDs which are prepared by the microwave-assisted polymerization of citric acid and urea possess the large specific surface area and abundant hydrophilic groups as sites for the adsorption of H2O molecules and thereby present a high conductivity in dark. Meanwhile, the low affinity of mcu-CDs to H2O molecules permits the light-induced desorption of H2O molecules by heat effect and thus endow the mcu-CDs with a low conductivity under illumination. The easy absorption and desorption of H2O molecules contribute to the extraordinary NPC of mcu-CDs. With the broadband NPC response in CDs, the optoelectronic logic gates and flexible optical imaging system are established, achieving the applications of "NOR" or "NAND" logic operations and high-quality optical images. These findings unveil the unique optoelectronic properties of CDs, and have the potential to advance the applications of CDs in optoelectronic devices.

Using the amino acid sequences and analysis of selected known structures of Bt Cry toxins, Cry1Ab, Cry1Ac, Cry1Ah, Cry1B, Cry1C and Cry1F we specifically designed immunogens. After antibodies selection, broad-spectrum polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) and monoclonal antibody (namely 1A0-mAb) were obtained from rabbit and mouse, respectively. The produced pAbs displayed broad spectrum activity by recognizing Cry1 toxin, Cry2Aa, Cry2Ab and Cry3Aa with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 0.12-9.86 µg/mL. Similarly, 1A0-mAb showed broad spectrum activity, recognizing all of the above Cry protein (IC50 values of 4.66-20.46 µg/mL) with the exception of Cry2Aa. Using optimizations studies, 1A10-mAb was used as a capture antibody and pAbs as detection antibody. Double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (DAS-ELISAs) were established for Cry1 toxin, Cry2Ab and Cry3Aa with the limit of detection (LOD) values of 2.36-36.37 ng/mL, respectively. The present DAS-ELISAs had good accuracy and precisions for the determination of Cry toxin spiked tap water, corn, rice, soybeans and soil samples. In conclusion, the present study has successfully obtained broad-spectrum pAbs and mAb. Furthermore, the generated pAbs- and mAb-based DAS-ELISAs protocol can potentially be used for the broad-spectrum monitoring of eight common subtypes of Bt Cry toxins residues in food and environmental samples.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether telomerase-associated lncRNA expression affects the prognosis and anti-tumor immunity of patients with renal clear cell carcinoma (ccRCC). METHODS: A series of analyses were performed to establish a prognostic risk model and validate its accuracy. Immune-related analyses were performed to assess further the association between immune status, tumor microenvironment, and prognostic risk models. RESULTS: Eight telomerase-associated lncRNAs associated with prognosis were identified and applied to establish a prognostic risk model. Overall survival was higher in the low-risk group. CONCLUSION: The established prognostic risk model has a good predictive ability for the prognosis of ccRCC patients and provides a new possible therapeutic target for ccRCC.

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry2Aa is a member of the Cry pore-forming, 3-domain, toxin family with activity against both lepidopteran and dipteran insects. Although domains II and III of the Cry toxins are believed to represent the primary specificity determinant through specific binding to cell receptors, it has been proposed that the pore-forming domain I of Cry2Aa also has such a role. Thus, a greater understanding of the functions of Cry2Aa's different domains could potentially be helpful in the rational design of improved toxins. In this work, cry2Aa and its domain fragments (DI, DII, DIII, DI-II and DII-DIII) were subcloned into the vector pGEX-6P-1 and expressed in Escherichia coli. Each protein was recognized by anti-Cry2Aa antibodies and, except for the DII fragment, could block binding of the antibody to Cry2Aa. Cry2Aa and its DI and DI-II fragments bound to brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from H. armigera and also to a ca 150 kDa BBMV protein on a far western (ligand) blot. In contrast the DII, DIII and DII-III fragments bound to neither of these. None of the fragments were stable in H. armigera gut juice nor showed any toxicity towards this insect. Our results indicate that contrary to the general model of Cry toxin activity domain I plays a role in the binding of the toxin to the insect midgut.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of dual-console telesurgery with the new KangDuo system in an animal experiment and clinical study. METHODS: Six canine models were performed radical prostatectomy with dual-console KanDuo surgical robot-1500 (KD-SR-1500-RARP). The perioperative outcomes, physical and mental workload of the surgeon were collected. Physical workload was evaluated with surface electromyography. Mental workload was evaluated with NASA-TLX. After conducting animal experiments to verify safety of dual-console KD-SR-1500-RARP, we conducted the clinical trial using 5G and wired networks. RESULTS: In the animal experiment, all surgeries were performed successfully. The operative time was 80.2±32.1 min. The docking time was 2.4±0.5 min. The console time was 49.7±25.3 min. There were no perioperative complications or equipment related adverse events. All dogs can micturate after catheter removal at one week postoperatively. The mental workload was at a low level (a scale ranging from 0 to 60), which scored 15.7±6.9. Among the eight recorded muscles, the fatigue degree of the right radial flexor and left biceps was the highest two (iEMG, resection, 299.8±344 uV, 109.9±16.9 uV; suture, 849.4±1252.5 uV, 423.1±621.3 uV, respectively). In the clinical study, the console time was 136 min. The mean latency time was ≤200 ms. The data pocket loss was <1%. The operation was successfully completed without malfunctions occurring throughout the entire process. CONCLUSIONS: Dual-console telesurgery with the KD-SR-1500 system was shown to be feasible and safe in radical prostatectomy using 5G and wired networks.

Comprehending the determinants of host-associated microbiota is pivotal in microbial ecology. Yet, the links between climatic factors and variations in host-associated microbiota necessitate further clarification. Mountain-dwelling amphibians, with limited dispersal abilities, serve as valuable models for addressing these questions. Our study, using 126 amphibian-associated microbial samples (64 gut and 62 skin) and 101 environmental microbial samples (51 soil and 50 water) from the eastern Tibetan Plateau, revealed host factors as primary drivers of the variations in host-associated microbiota. However, climatic factors contributed to additional variations in gut microbial beta-diversity and skin microbial function. Water microbiota were identified as a significant contributor to the amphibian-associated microbiomes, with their climate-driven variations mediating an indirect association between the variations in climatic factors and host-associated microbiota. These findings extend our understanding of the assembly of host-associated microbiota in amphibians, emphasizing the significance of microbiota in evaluating the impact of climate change on animals.

Background: Cases of simultaneous TA-TAVR and Mckeown dual minimally invasive surgery are very rare. A retrospective analysis of the clinical features, perioperative surgical cooperation and care of an elderly patient with esophageal cancer combined with moderate-to-severe aortic regurgitation. Methods: An elderly patient with esophageal cancer combined with moderate to severe aortic valve regurgitation was admitted to the Department of Thoracic Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University in September 2022. Through preoperative MDT discussion, two minimally invasive surgical options were identified and analyzed to develop personalized and standardized perioperative operating room care and surgical coordination. Informed written consent and institutional review board approval were both obtained (No. 2021-879; July 25, 2022) for the surgery and the publication of the study data. Results: After a thorough preoperative MDT discussion and the development of a personalized and standardized operating room care plan, the two surgeries lasted a total of 5h 35mins with a total bleeding volume of 150 ml. The surgeries went smoothly, and the patients were sent to the ICU and transferred back to the general ward on the second day after surgery without complications. Conclusion: The simultaneous performance of dual minimally invasive level IV surgery is indeed a high-risk procedure, which is a new challenge for both patients and health care workers. Standardized OR care planning and surgical coordination are also important aspects of MDT, reflecting that OR care is an indispensable role in the surgical team as well.

PURPOSE: This study aims to assess ultrashort-TE magnetization transfer (UTE-MT) imaging of collagen degradation using an in vitro model of rotator cuff tendinopathy. METHODS: Thirty-six supraspinatus tendon specimens were divided into three groups and treated with 600 U collagenase (Group 1), 150 U collagenase (Group 2), and phosphate buffer saline (Group 3). UTE-MT imaging was performed to assess changes in macromolecular fraction (MMF), macromolecule transverse relaxation time (T2m), water longitudinal relaxation rate constant (R1m), the magnetization exchange rate from the macromolecular to water pool (Rm0 w) and from water to the macromolecular pool (Rm0 m), and magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) at baseline and following digestion and their differences between groups. Biochemical and histological studies were conducted to determine the extent of collagen degradation. Correlation analyses were performed with MMF, T2m, R1m, Rm0 w, Rm0 m, and MTR, respectively. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate combinations of UTE-MT parameters to predict collagen degradation. RESULTS: MMF, T2m, R1m, Rm0 m, and MTR decreased after digestion. MMF (r = -0.842, p < 0.001), MTR (r = -0.78, p < 0.001), and Rm0 m (r = -0.662, p < 0.001) were strongly negatively correlated with collagen degradation. The linear regression model of differences in MMF and Rm0 m before and after digestion explained 68.9% of collagen degradation variation in the tendon. The model of postdigestion in MMF and T2m and the model of MTR explained 54.2% and 52.3% of collagen degradation variation, respectively. CONCLUSION: This study highlighted the potential of UTE-MT parameters for evaluation of supraspinatus tendinopathy.

Oxidative stress can induce inflammation and tight junction disruption in enterocytes. The initiation of inflammation is thought to commence with the activation of the ROS/NLRP3/IL-1ß signaling pathway, marking a crucial starting point in the process. In our previous studies, we found that microbe-derived antioxidants (MAs) showed significant potential in enhancing both antioxidant capabilities and anti-inflammatory effects. The main aim of this research was to investigate the ability of MAs to protect cells from oxidative stress caused by H2O2, to reduce inflammatory responses, and to maintain the integrity of tight junction proteins by modulating the ROS/NLRP3/IL-1ß signaling pathway. IPEC-1 cells (1 × 104 cells/well) were initially exposed to 100 mg/L of MAs for 12 h, after which they were subjected to 1 mM H2O2 treatment for 1 h. We utilized small interfering RNA (siRNA) to inhibit the expression of NLRP3 and Nrf2. Inflammatory factors such as IL-1ß and antioxidant enzyme activity levels were detected by ELISA. Oxidative stress marker ROS was examined by fluorescence analysis. The NLRP3/IL-1ß signaling pathway, Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and tight junction proteins (ZO-1 and Occludin) were detected by RT-qPCR or Western blotting. In our research, it was observed that MA treatment effectively suppressed the notable increase in H2O2-induced inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-18), decreased ROS accumulation, mitigated the expression of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1, and promoted the expression of ZO-1 and Occludin. After silencing the NLRP3 gene with siRNA, the protective influence of MAs was observed to be linked with the NLRP3 inflammasome. Additional investigations demonstrated that the treatment with MAs triggered the activation of Nrf2, facilitating its translocation into the nucleus. This process resulted in a notable upregulation of Nrf2, NQO1, and HO-1 expression, along with the initiation of the Nrf2-HO-1 signaling pathway. Consequently, there was an enhancement in the activities of antioxidant enzymes like SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT, which effectively mitigated the accumulation of ROS, thereby ameliorating the oxidative stress state. The antioxidant effectiveness of MAs was additionally heightened in the presence of SFN, an activator of Nrf2. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions of MAs and their role in regulating intestinal epithelial tight junction protein disruption were significantly affected after siRNA knockdown of the Nrf2 gene. These findings suggest that MAs have the potential to reduce H2O2-triggered oxidative stress, inflammation, and disruption of intestinal epithelial tight junction proteins in IPEC-1 cells. This reduction is achieved by blocking the ROS/NLRP3/IL-1ß signaling pathway through the activation of the Nrf2 pathway.

Reflection cracks are one of the most common problems in semi-rigid base pavement. Setting a stress absorption layer can effectively delay the occurrence of reflection cracks, but further improvement is still needed in its interlayer bonding performance and anti-reflection crack performance. Considering the excellent crack resistance of basalt fibers and the good elastic recovery ability of rubber asphalt, it is considered worthwhile to incorporate them into traditional stress absorption layers to improve performance. To simulate the actual pavement layer effect, composite specimens consisting of a cement-stabilized macadam base + basalt fiber rubber asphalt stress-absorbing layer + AC-20 asphalt mixture surface layer were prepared to evaluate their performance through interlayer direct shear tests, interlayer tensile tests, three-point bending tests, and overlay tests (OTs). To determine the optimal fiber blending combination, four fiber lengths (3 cm, 6 cm, 9 cm, 12 cm) and four fiber proportions (120 g/m2, 140 g/m2, 160 g/m2, 180 g/m2) were selected respectively. The specific effects of basalt fibers with different lengths and dosages were analyzed. The results show that compared with the absence of fibers, the improvement of interlayer bonding performance of rubber asphalt with basalt fibers is not significant, and it has certain limitations; however, the improvement of anti-reflective crack performance is significant, with an increase of up to 305.5%. This indicates that the network structure formed by basalt fibers and rubber asphalt stress absorption layer can effectively absorb and disperse external loads, causing an excellent crack resistance effect. Meanwhile, the results indicate that the main factor affecting its interlayer bonding strength and anti-reflective crack performance is the fiber content. Based on the comprehensive analysis of the performance and economy of the stress absorption layer of basalt fiber rubber asphalt, the optimal fiber parameter combination recommended is as fiber length 9 cm and fiber content 160 g/m2. These results can provide a reference for the design and performance evaluation of basalt fiber rubber asphalt stress absorption layer, and have certain application value.

Segmentectomy is widely used to treat pulmonary nodules and more functional lungs can be preserved in patients. For pulmonary nodules deep near the intersegmental border, only one single segmentectomy may not achieve adequate surgical margins, and combined subsegmental resection becomes the most suitable treatment option. Thoracoscopic combined anatomical resections involving both of right S9 and S10b are one of the most challenging cases, especially in the right chest. We previously reported a case of combined subsegmental resection of the left complex basal segment (LS9b + 10b). To our knowledge, there has been no report of combined subsegmental resection of the right S9 and S10b. Here, we aim to introduce a different technique named as "open-gate", which means that the intersegmental border between S7 and S10 was cut open along the intersegmental septa, to deal with complex combined basal subsegmental resections.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral examination via CTA is always the first choice for patients with unexpected brain injury or different types of brain lesions to detect ruptured hemangiomas, vascular infarcts, or other brain tissue lesions. OBJECTIVE: This study innovated the acrylic gauge with five eccentric circles for computed tomography angiography (CTA) analysis to optimize the spatial resolution via Taguchi's methodology. METHODS: The customized gauge was revised from the V-shaped slit gauge and transferred into five eccentric circles' slit gauge. The gauge was assembled with another six acrylic layers to simulate the human head. Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array was adopted to optimize the spatial resolution of CTA imaging quality. In doing so, six essential factors of CTA are kVp, mAs, spiral rotation pitch, FOV, rotation time of the CT and reconstruction filter, and each factor has either two or three levels to organize into eighteen combinations to simulate the full factor combination of 486 (21 × 35 = 486) times according to Taguchi's recommendation. Three well-trained radiologists ranked the gauge's 18 CTA scanned imaging qualities according to contrast, sharpness, and spatial resolution and derived the unique fish-bone-plot of six factors for further analysis. The optimal factor combination of CTA was proven by follow-up verification and ANOVA to obtain this study's dominant or minor factor. RESULTS: The optimal factor combination of CTA was A2 (120 kVp), B3 (200 mAs), C1 (Pitch 0.6), D2 (FOV 220 mm2), E1 (rotation time 0.33 s), and F3 (Brain sharp, UC). Furthermore, deriving a quantified MDD (minimum detectable difference) to imply the spatial resolution of CTA, a semiauto profile analysis program run in MATLAB and OriginPro was recommended to evaluate the MDD and to suppress the manual error in calculation. Eventually, the derived MDDs of the conventional and optimal factor combinations of CTA were 2.35 and 2.26 mm, respectively, in this study. CONCLUSION: Taguchi's methodology was found applicable for quantifying the CTA imaging quality in practical applications.

RESUMEN

QED atoms are composed of unstructured and point-like lepton pairs bound together by the electromagnetic force. The smallest and heaviest QED atom is formed by a τ+τ- pair. Currently, the only known atoms of this type are the e+e- and µ+e- atoms, which were discovered 64 years ago and remain the sole examples found thus far. We demonstrate that the Jτ (τ+τ- atom with JPC=1--) atom signal can be observed with a significance larger than 5σ including both statistical and systematic uncertainties, via. the process e+e-→X+Y-Ɇ (X,Y=e,µ,π,K, or ρ, and Ɇ is the missing energy due to unobserved neutrinos) with 1.5ab-1 data taken around the τ pair production threshold. The τ lepton mass can be measured with a precision of 1 keV with the same data sample. This is within one year's running time of the proposed super tau-charm facility in China or super charm-tau factory in Russia.

BACKGROUND: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by abnormal lipid deposition in the arteries. Programmed cell death is involved in the inflammatory response of atherosclerosis, but PANoptosis, as a new form of programmed cell death, is still unclear in atherosclerosis. This study explored the key PANoptosis-related genes involved in atherosclerosis and their potential mechanisms through bioinformatics analysis. METHODS: We evaluated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and immune infiltration landscape in atherosclerosis using microarray datasets and bioinformatics analysis. By intersecting PANoptosis-related genes from the GeneCards database with DEGs, we obtained a set of PANoptosis-related genes in atherosclerosis (PANoDEGs). Functional enrichment analysis of PANoDEGs was performed and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of PANoDEGs was established. The machine learning algorithms were used to identify the key PANoDEGs closely linked to atherosclerosis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to assess the diagnostic potency of key PANoDEGs. CIBERSORT was used to analyze the immune infiltration patterns in atherosclerosis, and the Spearman method was used to study the relationship between key PANoDEGs and immune infiltration abundance. The single gene enrichment analysis of key PANoDEGs was investigated by GSEA. The transcription factors and target miRNAs of key PANoDEGs were predicted by Cytoscape and online database, respectively. The expression of key PANoDEGs was validated through animal and cell experiments. RESULTS: PANoDEGs in atherosclerosis were significantly enriched in apoptotic process, pyroptosis, necroptosis, cytosolic DNA-sensing pathway, NOD-like receptor signaling pathway, lipid and atherosclerosis. Four key PANoDEGs (ZBP1, SNHG6, DNM1L, and AIM2) were found to be closely related to atherosclerosis. The ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the key PANoDEGs had a strong diagnostic potential in distinguishing atherosclerotic samples from control samples. Immune cell infiltration analysis revealed that the proportion of initial B cells, plasma cells, CD4 memory resting T cells, and M1 macrophages was significantly higher in atherosclerotic tissues compared to normal tissues. Spearman analysis showed that key PANoDEGs showed strong correlations with immune cells such as T cells, macrophages, plasma cells, and mast cells. The regulatory networks of the four key PANoDEGs were established. The expression of key PANoDEGs was verified in further cell and animal experiments. CONCLUSIONS: This study evaluated the expression changes of PANoptosis-related genes in atherosclerosis, providing a reference direction for the study of PANoptosis in atherosclerosis and offering potential new avenues for further understanding the pathogenesis and treatment strategies of atherosclerosis.

The Xishuangbanna (XIS) cucumber (Cucumis sativus var. xishuangbannanesis) is a semiwild variety that has many distinct agronomic traits. Here, long reads generated by Nanopore sequencing technology helped assembling a high-quality genome (contig N50 = 8.7 Mb) of landrace XIS49. A total of 10,036 structural/sequence variations (SVs) were identified when comparing with Chinese Long (CL), and known SVs controlling spines, tubercles, and carpel number were confirmed in XIS49 genome. Two QTLs of hypocotyl elongation under low light, SH3.1 and SH6.1, were fine-mapped using introgression lines (donor parent, XIS49; recurrent parent, CL). SH3.1 encodes a red-light receptor Phytochrome B (PhyB, CsaV3_3G015190). A ∼4 kb region with large deletion and highly divergent regions (HDRs) were identified in the promoter of the PhyB gene in XIS49. Loss of function of this PhyB caused a super-long hypocotyl phenotype. SH6.1 encodes a CCCH-type zinc finger protein FRIGIDA-ESSENTIAL LIKE (FEL, CsaV3_6G050300). FEL negatively regulated hypocotyl elongation but it was transcriptionally suppressed by long terminal repeats retrotransposon insertion in CL cucumber. Mechanistically, FEL physically binds to the promoter of CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENIC 1a (COP1a), regulating the expression of COP1a and the downstream hypocotyl elongation. These above results demonstrate the genetic mechanism of cucumber hypocotyl elongation under low light.

To further explore the characteristics of heavy metal pollution and the ecological risk of typical industries in reclaimed soil, based on data from 315 different depth profiles of soil samples collected from 49 plots in Jiading District, Shanghai, the geo-accumulation index and potential ecological risk index were used to evaluate the contents and potential ecological risk of seven heavy metals, namely Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, Hg, and As. The APCS-MLR receptor model and PMF positive matrix factorization model were employed to analyze the pollution sources. The results showed that:① except for As, the contents of other heavy metals in the soil of the study area exceeded the Shanghai soil background values to varying degrees. The contents of Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Hg in the surface soil were 3.54, 2.34, 2.91, 1.20, 3.75, and 4.40 times the background values, respectively. The contents of heavy metals in the soil decreased with the increase in depth, and heavy metals were enriched to a certain extent in the surface soil, indicating that human activities had an impact on the distribution of heavy metals in the soil. ② The APCS-MLR and PMF receptor models identified four main sources of soil heavy metals in the study area. Source 1 (Cu, Zn, and Pb) was a mixture of metal products and automobile manufacturing, source 2 (Ni and Cd) was electroplating enterprises, source 3 (Hg) was mainly from chemical enterprises, and source 4 (As) was natural. The combined use of the two receptor models further improved the accuracy and credibility of source identification. ③ The geo-accumulation index in descending order was Hg(1.54)>Ni(1.32)>Cd(1.21)>Cu(0.96)>Pb(0.64)>Zn(-0.33)>As(-1.02). The potential ecological risk index showed that the comprehensive potential ecological risk index RI value in the study area ranged from 32.50 to 4 910.97, with a mean of 321.40, indicating a strong potential ecological risk. The pollution values of heavy metals Hg, Ni, and Cd in industrial site soil deserve further attention for re-development and utilization purposes.

It remains a challenge to obtain biocompatible afterglow materials with long emission wavelengths, durable lifetimes, and good water solubility. Herein we develop a photooxidation strategy to construct near-infrared afterglow carbon nanodots with an extra-long lifetime of up to 5.9 h, comparable to that of the well-known rare-earth or organic long-persistent luminescent materials. Intriguingly, size-dependent afterglow lifetime evolution from 3.4 to 5.9 h has been observed from the carbon nanodots systems in aqueous solution. With structural/ultrafast dynamics analysis and density functional theory simulations, we reveal that the persistent luminescence in carbon nanodots is activated by a photooxidation-induced dioxetane intermediate, which can slowly release and convert energy into luminous emission via the steric hindrance effect of nanoparticles. With the persistent near-infrared luminescence, tissue penetration depth of 20 mm can be achieved. Thanks to the high signal-to-background ratio, biological safety and cancer-specific targeting ability of carbon nanodots, ultralong-afterglow guided surgery has been successfully performed on mice model to remove tumor tissues accurately, demonstrating potential clinical applications. These results may facilitate the development of long-lasting luminescent materials for precision tumor resection.
