RESUMEN

Phthalate esters (PAEs) are plasticizers widely used in the industry and easily released into the environment, posing a serious threat to human health. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are important as selective adsorbents for the removal of PAEs. In this study, three kinds of mussel-inspired MIPs for the removal of PAEs were first prepared with gallic acid (GA), hexanediamine (HD), tannic acid (TA), and dopamine (DA) under mild conditions. The adsorption results showed that the MIP with low cost derived from GA and HD (GAHD-MIP) obtained the highest adsorption capacity among these materials. Furthermore, 97.43% of equilibrium capacity could be reached within the first 5 min of adsorption. Especially, the dummy template of diallyl phthalate (DAP) with low toxicity was observed to be more suitable to prepare MIPs than dibutyl phthalate (DBP), although DBP was the target of adsorption. The adsorption process was in accordance with the pseudo-second-order kinetics model. In the isotherm analysis, the adsorption behavior agreed with the Freundlich model. Additionally, the material maintained high adsorption performance after 7 cycles of regeneration tests. The GAHD-MIP adsorbents in this study, with low cost, rapid adsorption equilibrium, green raw materials, and low toxicity dummy template, provide a valuable reference for the design and development of new MIPs.

RESUMEN

Bouquet is a fascinating wine characteristic that serves as an indicator of wine quality, developing during the aging process. The multifunctional monoterpenol oxidase VvCYP76F14 in wine grapes sequentially catalyzes three reactions to produce (E)-8-carboxylinalool, a crucial precursor for wine bouquet. Previous studies indicated that the activity of VvCYP76F14 derived from different wine grape varieties did not correlate with the amino acid sequence differences. In this study, 54 wine grape varieties were categorized into neutral, aromatic, and full-bodied types based on the sequence differences of VvCYP76F14, closely correlated with the content of wine lactone precursors. Computer modeling and molecular docking analysis of the full-bodied CYP76F14 revealed 17, 19, and 18 amino acid residues in the VvCYP76F14-linalool, VvCYP76F14-(E)-8-hydroxylinalool, and VvCYP76F14-(E)-8-oxolinalool complexes, respectively. Site-directed mutagenesis and in vitro enzyme activity analysis confirmed the substitutions of the key amino acid residues in neutral and aromatic varieties. Notably, the D299 mutation of VvCYP76F14 resulted in the complete loss of (E)-8-oxolinalool and (E)-8-carboxylinalool activities, aligning with the undetectable levels of (E)-8-oxolinalool and (E)-8-carboxylinalool in "Yantai 2-3-37", which harbors the D299T substitution. Favorably, VvCYP76F14 could serve as a cost-effective fingerprint marker for screening superior hybrid offspring with the desired levels of wine lactone precursors.

RESUMEN

In plants, ferritin proteins play an important role in iron (Fe) storage which contributes to plant growth and development. However, the biological functions of ferritins in fruit trees are essentially unknown. In this study, three Ferritin genes were isolated from 'Zhentong No. 3' peach, which were named PpFer1-PpFer3. The expression levels of these genes were different in distinct tissues/organs. Notably, PpFer1 was the most abundantly expressed Ferritin family gene in all tested tissues of 'Zhentong No. 3' peach; its expression levels were significantly enhanced throughout the entire peach seedling under Fe toxicity and H2O2 stress, particularly in the leaves. In addition, over-expression of PpFer1 was effective in rescuing the retarded growth of Arabidopsis fer1-2 knockout mutant, embodied in enhanced fresh weight, primary root length, lateral root numbers, total root length, total leaf chlorophyll, stomatal conductance (Gs), net photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate, and tissue Fe concentration. This study provides insights into understanding the molecular mechanisms of Fe storage and sequestration in perennial fruit trees.

RESUMEN

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from polypropylene (PP) seriously restricts the application of PP in an automotive field. Herein, the traceability of VOCs from PP resins during manufacturing process and accelerated photoaging degradation was clarified on basis of an accurate characterization method of key VOCs. The influence of PP structures on changing the accelerated photoaging degradation on the VOCs was systematic. The VOCs were identified by means of Gas chromatography (GC) coupled with both a hydrogen flame ion detector (FID) and a mass spectrometry detector (MSD). Results showed that both the molecular structure of PP and the manufacturing process affected the species and contents of VOCs. In addition, the photoaging degradation of PP resulted in a large number of new emerged volatile carbonyl compounds. Our work proposed a possible VOC formation mechanism during the manufacturing and photoaging process. VOCs from PP resins were originated from oligomers and chain random scission during thermomechanical degradation. However, ß scission of alkoxy radical and Norrish tape I reactions of ketones via intermediate transition were probably the main VOCs formation routes towards PP during photoaging degradation. This work could provide scientific knowledge on both the accurate traceability of VOCs emissions and new technology for development of low-VOCs PP composites for vehicle.
