RESUMEN

The ninth annual Cologne Consensus Conference was held virtually on 10-11 September 2020. The two-day educational event was organised by the International Academy for CPD Accreditation (the Academy), a network of colleagues dedicated to promoting and enhancing continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation systems throughout the world. This year's conference was hosted by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and once again planned in cooperation with the European Cardiology Section Foundation (ECSF) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The conference's ninth iteration was originally slated to be a live meeting taking place in Chicago, Illinois, USA (home to the ACCME offices), but was moved to a fully online format due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Appropriately, the programme's theme was A World Apart: We Are Together and focused on the continued alignment of global accreditation standards and increasing international collaborations. This conference report summarises the meeting content and discussions, including a description and formal adoption of the final Standards for Substantive Equivalency between Continuing Professional Development/Continuing Medical Education (CPD/CME) Accreditation Systems.

RESUMEN

On September 13-14, 2019 the eighth annual Cologne Consensus Conference was held in Cologne, Germany. The two-day educational event was organised by the International Academy of CPD Accreditors, a network of colleagues dedicated to promoting and enhancing continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation systems throughout the world. The conference was planned in cooperation with an impressive group of organisations representing leading European and North American institutions: the European Cardiology Section Foundation (ECSF), the Accreditation Council for CME (ACCME), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Continuing Medical Education-European Accreditors (CME-EA). For the conference's eighth iteration, Standards and Guidelines in Accredited CPD was chosen as the program topic and educational focus; a choice reflecting increasing international collaborations and an evolution towards consistency and standards across global accreditation systems. A specific list of domains and criteria (developed under a broader initiative already underway by the Academy) would serve as the core content around which the conference was planned. This conference report describes the initiative, the proposed standards to date, highlights of the Cologne Consensus Conference discussions and feedback, and the ongoing process of achieving consensus on the standards yet to be finalised.

RESUMEN

On 11-12 September 2015, the fourth annual Cologne Consensus Conference (CCC) was held in Cologne, Germany. The 2-day educational event was organised by the European Cardiology Section Foundation (ECSF) and the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC), a specialty continuing medical education-continuing professional development (CME-CPD) accreditation board of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). The conference was again planned in cooperation with an impressive group of international organisations and faculty members representing leading European and North American institutions. Each year, the CCC is organised around a specific topic area. For the conference's fourth iteration, the providers in accredited CME/CPD were the focus. The CCC 2015 set out to share ideas, discuss concepts, and increase collaborations amongst the various groups. This report provides a summary of the presentations and discussions from the educational event.
