RESUMEN

According to the World Health Organization, millions of infections and a lot of deaths have been recorded worldwide since the emergence of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Since 2020, a lot of computer science researchers have used convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to develop interesting frameworks to detect this disease. However, poor feature extraction from the chest X-ray images and the high computational cost of the available models introduce difficulties for an accurate and fast COVID-19 detection framework. Moreover, poor feature extraction has caused the issue of 'the curse of dimensionality', which will negatively affect the performance of the model. Feature selection is typically considered as a preprocessing mechanism to find an optimal subset of features from a given set of all features in the data mining process. Thus, the major purpose of this study is to offer an accurate and efficient approach for extracting COVID-19 features from chest X-rays that is also less computationally expensive than earlier approaches. To achieve the specified goal, we design a mechanism for feature extraction based on shallow conventional neural network (SCNN) and used an effective method for selecting features by utilizing the newly developed optimization algorithm, Q-Learning Embedded Sine Cosine Algorithm (QLESCA). Support vector machines (SVMs) are used as a classifier. Five publicly available chest X-ray image datasets, consisting of 4848 COVID-19 images and 8669 non-COVID-19 images, are used to train and evaluate the proposed model. The performance of the QLESCA is evaluated against nine recent optimization algorithms. The proposed method is able to achieve the highest accuracy of 97.8086% while reducing the number of features from 100 to 38. Experiments prove that the accuracy of the model improves with the usage of the QLESCA as the dimensionality reduction technique by selecting relevant features.

RESUMEN

Recognizing traffic signs is an essential component of intelligent driving systems' environment perception technology. In real-world applications, traffic sign recognition is easily influenced by variables such as light intensity, extreme weather, and distance, which increase the safety risks associated with intelligent vehicles. A Chinese traffic sign detection algorithm based on YOLOv4-tiny is proposed to overcome these challenges. An improved lightweight BECA attention mechanism module was added to the backbone feature extraction network, and an improved dense SPP network was added to the enhanced feature extraction network. A yolo detection layer was added to the detection layer, and k-means++ clustering was used to obtain prior boxes that were better suited for traffic sign detection. The improved algorithm, TSR-YOLO, was tested and assessed with the CCTSDB2021 dataset and showed a detection accuracy of 96.62%, a recall rate of 79.73%, an F-1 Score of 87.37%, and a mAP value of 92.77%, which outperformed the original YOLOv4-tiny network, and its FPS value remained around 81 f/s. Therefore, the proposed method can improve the accuracy of recognizing traffic signs in complex scenarios and can meet the real-time requirements of intelligent vehicles for traffic sign recognition tasks.

RESUMEN

Biometric is an important field that enables identification of an individual to access their sensitive information and asset. In recent years, electroencephalography- (EEG-) based biometrics have been popularly explored by researchers because EEG is able to distinct between two individuals. The literature reviews have shown that convolutional neural network (CNN) is one of the classification approaches that can avoid the complex stages of preprocessing, feature extraction, and feature selection. Therefore, CNN is suggested to be one of the efficient classifiers for biometric identification. Conventionally, input to CNN can be in image or matrix form. The objective of this paper is to explore the arrangement of EEG for CNN input to investigate the most suitable input arrangement of EEG towards the performance of EEG-based identification. EEG datasets that are used in this paper are resting state eyes open (REO) and resting state eyes close (REC) EEG. Six types of data arrangement are compared in this paper. They are matrix of amplitude versus time, matrix of energy versus time, matrix of amplitude versus time for rearranged channels, image of amplitude versus time, image of energy versus time, and image of amplitude versus time for rearranged channels. It was found that the matrix of amplitude versus time for each rearranged channels using the combination of REC and REO performed the best for biometric identification, achieving validation accuracy and test accuracy of 83.21% and 79.08%, respectively.

RESUMEN

In this paper, a personal verification method using finger vein is presented. Finger vein can be considered more secured compared to other hands based biometric traits such as fingerprint and palm print because the features are inside the human body. In the proposed method, a new texture descriptor called local line binary pattern (LLBP) is utilized as feature extraction technique. The neighbourhood shape in LLBP is a straight line, unlike in local binary pattern (LBP) which is a square shape. Experimental results show that the proposed method using LLBP has better performance than the previous methods using LBP and local derivative pattern (LDP).
