RESUMEN

The main stages in the activities of the scientific units of the Institute since its foundation up to now were represented. The role of Prof. M.I. Nemenov, the founder of the Institute, as a scientist and organizer, and investigations of the staff-members, conducted in different periods, were described. The essence of some researches, carried out at the Institute, was briefly reported.

RESUMEN

Different types of left-ventricular wall movement were demonstrated in normal subjects and coronary patients, the differences being due to different degrees of reduction in the equatorial diameter of the cavity in the ejection phase. Rationale are given for using the mean diameter for left-ventricular volume calculations. A linear relationship has been demonstrated between the degree of diameter reduction and the ejection fraction. The latter is shown to be dependent on left-ventricular end diastolic volume. Regional myocardial contractility, a parameter of high diagnostic value, based on segmental ejection fraction, is introduced.

RESUMEN

Cineventriculo- and echocardiographic studies of left-ventricular cavity demonstrated an increase in the deep diameter and the thinning and outward displacement of the posterior wall during the isovolumic systole in normal subjects. This change of shape was however uncommon and, if present, less pronounced in 19 patients with marked coronary heart disease (CHD). In normal subjects, posterior wall movement amplitude was always greater than that of the anterior wall, whereas in coronary patients left-ventricular wall movement amplitudes were always similar. It is assumed that the lateral posterior wall displacement is due to a later myocardial activation in this area, while the absence of such movements is attributed to increased volume of ventricular cavity. The ratio of left-ventricular diameter to posterior wall thickness was actually below 3 in all normal subjects and above 3 in most of the coronary patients.

RESUMEN

In 120 pneumonia patients studied by means of chest radiography, an alteration of density of consolidated areas was detected, depending on the spatial position of the patient during investigation. The pneumonic consolidation shadow grew denser when the radiograph was taken in horizontal position with the damaged lung on the lower side. In contrast to this, the shadow density was markedly diminished when the patient was turned on the opposite (healthy) side. Such quick changing of the radiographic image is explained as a consequence of gravitational influence on the pulmonary circulation. In 20 patients with bronchial carcinoma, changing of the shadow density of the damaged area was very slight. It is believed that this difference may be useful in the identification and diagnosis of these diseases.

RESUMEN

It is found that the main indices determined in catheterization and ventriculography of the left ventricle still provide insufficient information. This is displayed by their considerable variations under normal conditions (conventional normal values). The functional left ventricular volumes vary least in adults; the ejection fraction is most informative. Contraction of the longitudinal axis of the left ventricle and of its transverse diameters and the circular rate of myocardial contraction are most variable. It is necessary to generalize a great scope of material to obtain the normal sex and age values of all indices.

RESUMEN

With the goal of accelerating the contrast-medium injection at the lymphography and improving the contrasting of the vessels and node conduction system the authors applied a variety of pharmacological preparations: Ridol (G. Richter), Nospanum (Quinoine, HPR), Arfonadum (Hoffman-La Rochet, Switzerland), Xavinum (Quinoine) etc. in 110 cases of various malignant neoplasms. All the selected drugs are, to a greater or lesser extent, of a vasodilative effect. It has been found that Ridol together with the combination of Novocaine and Nospanum produce a pronounced lymphotropic effect. Pharmacolymphography with these preparations contributes to the shortening of the time necessary for the injection of contrast-medium and also improves the image of the intermediate node sinuses and of the thoracic duct.
