RESUMEN

Intestinal cancer, severe injury, and severe inflammation are most often treated with surgery, and an ostomy will be left in place after surgery[1]. An ostomy is a portion of the intestine that is surgically removed and pulled up to the abdominal wall, creating a temporary or permanent opening that serves as a pathway for intestinal waste to be discharged from the body, usually called a stoma. Stoma may be temporary (2 months to 6 months) or permanent. The goal for people with a stoma is to have the knowledge and ability to care for an ostomy to avoid peristomal moisture-associated skin damage. After patients return home, self-care knowledge and skills can help them adapt to the disease and maintain quality of life. Therefore, this study examined the effects of developing mobile Health applications on improving self-care knowledge and skills in patients who underwent ostomy surgery.

RESUMEN

The study aimed to evaluate changes in anxiety levels in patients with coronary artery disease before and after cardiac catheterization. The mobile applications LINE and GOOGLE were used to collect online data. A total of 188 patients participated in the study conducted at a regional teaching hospital in eastern Taiwan, and 51 of them completed the questionnaire twice, with a response rate of 27.1%. Although the second study noted the problem of incomplete data and low response rates, this study shows that online research methodology can still be improved and that using electronic questionnaires for data collection and statistical analysis reduces the risk of errors in online research and saves time in documentation. It is recommended to provide clear and detailed instructions when conducting online surveys and to review them carefully upon completion to ensure the completeness of the data collected.

RESUMEN

In the post-pandemic era, the work pressure, trauma, anxiety, and burnout of shift nursing staff has continued to rise in all levels. By introducing Healing Games, turning interactions into game-like situations and using mindfulness as a framework, this will allow the nursing staff to realize their self-healing and help reduce stress.Through the establishment of this healing & stress-relieving game for nursing (HSR game-N) will also have a positive self-control effect on the negative emotions of work pressure. The application of such technology used by shift nurses can help negate and decrease the work pressure of shift nurses.

RESUMEN

In 2021, the World Health Organization designated the theme for World Patient Safety Day as "Safe Maternal and Newborn Care" with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of maternal and newborn safety and improving their overall safety. Many healthcare institutions in Taiwan currently provide printed materials such as childbirth guidelines and nursing instructions to patients. However, mobile applications in the current digital world might be more handy to assist pregnant women in understanding the changes during pregnancy and provide relevant health education in order to help reduce pregnancy and childbirth complications, as well as decrease maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

RESUMEN

Colonoscopy is an essential method for diagnosing and treating colorectal cancer, relying on effective bowel preparation to thoroughly examine the large intestinal mucosa. Traditional education involves printed instructions and verbal explanations but does not guarantee clear patient understanding. Poor bowel preparation can obscure mucosal visibility, delaying cancer diagnosis and treatment. A mobile medical model using Android devices for bowel preparation education was tested in a single-blind, randomized trial. This trial enrolled outpatients undergoing colonoscopy at the Endoscopy Center for Diagnostic and Treatment between 27 October 2021 and 31 December 2022. This study introduced the ColonClean app alongside traditional methods. After examination, endoscopists rated the preparation quality using the Aronchick scale. A data analysis was conducted using SPSS 25.0 to determine if there was a significant improvement in bowel preparation quality between the control group (traditional method) and the experimental group (traditional method plus the ColonClean app). Forty patients were recruited in each group. In the experimental group, all ratings were "fair", with 75% receiving an "excellent" or "good" rating, showing statistical significance (p = 0.016). The ColonClean app improves bowel preparation quality more effectively than traditional care instructions.

RESUMEN

This study examined staff perceptions of planned obsolescence during a transition from old to new handheld devices for long-term mobile healthcare. Questionnaires based on the technology acceptance model were used to evaluate perceived ease of use and usefulness. This study recruited 120 staff from 26 long-term care facilities who used the old device and 86 staff from nine of the 26 original facilities who used the new device. Although the new devices with advanced features scored significantly higher in acceptance ratings, users still expressed high acceptance of, satisfaction with, and willingness to use the old device, which featured an effective and carefully designed user interface. Usability design plays an essential role in preventing the obsolescence of mobile handheld technology.

RESUMEN

Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGAs) have been recommended to be used for better monitoring the health status of elder residents and providing quality care. This study reported how our nurses perceived the usability of CGA component of a mobile integrated-care long term care support system developed in China. We used the Continuity Assessment Record and Evaluation (CARE), developed in the US, as the core CGA component of our Android-based support system, in which apps were designed for all key stakeholders for delivering quality long term care. A convenience sample of 18 subjects from local long term care facilities in Shanghai, China were invited to assess the CGA assessment component in terms of Technology Acceptance Model for Mobile based on real field trial assessment. All (100%) were satisfied with the mobile CGA component. 88.9% perceived the system was easy to learn and use. 99.4% showed their willingness to use for their work. We concluded it is technically feasible to implement a CGA-based mobile integrated care support system in China.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem with a high economic burden, which is particularly prevalent in Taiwan. Mobile health apps have been widely used to maintain continuity of patient care for various chronic diseases. To slow the progression of CKD, continuity of care is vital for patients' self-management and cooperation with health care professionals. However, the literature provides a limited understanding of the use of mobile health apps to maintain continuity of patient-centered care for CKD. OBJECTIVE: This study identified apps related to the continuity of patient-centered care for CKD on the App Store, Google Play, and 360 Mobile Assistant, and explored the information and frequency of changes in these apps available to the public on different platforms. App functionalities, like patient self-management and patient management support for health care professionals, were also examined. METHODS: We used the CKD-related keywords "kidney," "renal," "nephro," "chronic kidney disease," "CKD," and "kidney disease" in traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, and English to search 3 app platforms: App Store, Google Play, and 360 Mobile Assistant. A total of 2 reviewers reached consensus on coding guidelines and coded the contents and functionalities of the apps through content analysis. After coding, Microsoft Office Excel 2016 was used to calculate Cohen kappa coefficients and analyze the contents and functionalities of the apps. RESULTS: A total of 177 apps related to patient-centered care for CKD in any language were included. On the basis of their functionality and content, 67 apps were recommended for patients. Among them, the most common functionalities were CKD information and CKD self-management (38/67, 57%), e-consultation (17/67, 25%), CKD nutrition education (16/67, 24%), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) calculators (13/67, 19%). In addition, 67 apps were recommended for health care professionals. The most common functionalities of these apps were comprehensive clinical calculators (including eGFR; 30/67; 45%), CKD medical professional information (16/67, 24%), stand-alone eGFR calculators (14/67, 21%), and CKD clinical decision support (14/67, 21%). A total of 43 apps with single- or multiple-indicator calculators were found to be suitable for health care professionals and patients. The aspects of patient care apps intended to support self-management of CKD patients were encouraging patients to actively participate in health care (92/110, 83.6%), recognizing and effectively responding to symptoms (56/110, 50.9%), and disease-specific knowledge (53/110, 48.2%). Only 13 apps contained consulting management functions, patient management functions or teleconsultation functions designed to support health care professionals in CKD patient management. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that the continuity of patient-centered care for CKD provided by mobile health apps is inadequate for both CKD self-management by patients and patient care support for health care professionals. More comprehensive solutions are required to enhance the continuity of patient-centered care for CKD.

RESUMEN

Broadband perfect metamaterial absorbers have been drawing significant attention in recent years. A close-to-unity absorption over a broad spectral range is established and this facilitates many photonic applications. A more challenging goal is to construct a broadband absorber with a tailored spectral absorption. The spectral absorption control and spectral shaping are very critical in many applications, such as thermal-photovoltaic, thermal emitters, spectrum imaging system, biomedical and extraterrestrial sensing, and refractive index sensor. In this work, one-dimensional (1D) planar stacking structure is designed to achieve the ultimate goal of a functionalized absorber with a fully tailorable spectral absorption. The lithography and etching process are totally eliminated in this proposed structure, and the fabrication is fully compatible with the regular silicon IC processing. By using ~2 nm ultra-thin metallic layers with a 10-pair (10X) SiO2/Si3N4 integrated dielectric filter, we can achieve decent spectral response shaping. The planar configuration of the ultra-thin-metal metamaterial perfect absorber (MPA) is the key to the easy design/integration of the dielectric filters on top of the MPA. Specifically, band-rejected, high-pass, low-pass and band-pass structure are constructed successfully. Finally, experimental evidence to support our simulation result is also provided, which proves the feasibility of our proposal.

RESUMEN

In this work, we present the result of nickel (Ni)-based metamaterial perfect absorbers (MPA) with ultra-broadband close-to-one absorbance. The experimental broadband characteristic is significantly improved over the past effort on metamaterial perfect absorbers. An in-depth physical picture and quantitative analysis is presented to reveal the physical origin of its ultrabroadband nature. The key constituent is the cancellation of the reflected wave using ultra-thin, moderate-extinction metallic films. The ultra-thin metal thickness can reduce the reflection as the optical field penetrates through the metallic films. This leads to minimal reflection at each ultra-thin metal layer, and light is penetrating into the Ni/SiO2 stacking. More intuitively, when the layer thickness is much smaller than the photon wavelength, the layer is essentially invisible to the photons. This results in absorption in the metal thin-film through penetration while there is minimal reflection by the metal film. More importantly, the experimental evidence for omni-directionality and polarization-insensitivity are established for the proposed design. Detailed measurement is conducted. Due to the ultrathin metal layers and the satisfactory tolerance in dielectric thickness, the broadband absorption has minimal degradation at oblique incidence. Such a wide angle, polarization-insensitive, ultra-broadband MPA can be very promising in the future, and the optical physics using sub-skin-depth metal film can also facilitate miniaturized high-performance nano-photonic devices.

RESUMEN

Long-term-care comprehensive geriatric assessments, such as the Minimum Data Set 3.0, are used to evaluate the clinical, psychological, and personal status of residents in long-term-care nursing facilities. Nursing staff conducts assessment interviews, thereby increasing the workload of nurses and the cost of patient care. This study explored the ability of nursing home residents to use two different mobile devices for a geriatric self-assessment. Study participants were residents of long-term-care nursing homes. A modified Minimum Data Set 3.0 was converted to a format for use with a 6-inch mobile pad and a 3.7-inch mobile smartphone. The survey completion rate and the response time were measured. A Technology Assessment Model questionnaire analyzed the participants' experience. All participants were able to use a 6-inch pad, with an average completion rate of 92.9% and an average time for completion of 21 minutes. Only 20% of the participants could complete the assessment with the 3.7-inch smartphone. The participants found the 6-inch pad easier to use than the 3.7-inch smartphone. This exploratory study suggests that nursing home residents are able to use a mobile device to perform a geriatric self-assessment and delineates the importance of the ergonomics of the device.

RESUMEN

The researchers have demonstrated that the PDA could be used for complex documentation and well accepted by users. This study examined whether the researchers could make the PDA system still keep great usability when the contents of information were requested to increase from 262 to 513 questions. Two independent convenience samples from the Veterans Medical Care system in Taiwan and the questionnaire designed based on Technology Acceptance Model were used in this study. Results showed that mobile device such as PDA could still be used for complex documentation with 513 assessment questions, designed with a set of effective screen interface design principles. This is encouraging for the mobile health because its success depends on the use of mobile devices.
