Extra-adrenal myelolipoma (EAM) is a rare benign tumor composed of mature adipose and hematopoietic tissues. Its etiology remains to be elucidated and there are few case reports describing the clinical features and treatment of EAMs in the central nervous system. The present study presented our experience and practice in the clinical management of a case of EAM in the right frontal region. A 56-year-old woman was found to have a space-occupying right frontal lesion on computed tomography (CT) of the head. Unenhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a lesion of ~1.5x1.2 cm. Enhanced whole abdominal CT showed a right presacral mass, 2.0 cm in diameter, with clear margins. The postoperative histopathological findings showed mainly mature adipose tissue mixed with extramedullary hematopoietic components. This confirmed the diagnosis of a (bone) marrow lipoma. Myelolipoma of the central nervous system is extremely rare. to the best of the authors' knowledge, only two cases of intracranial myelolipoma have been reported, and the present study introduced the first case in a Chinese patient reported in English. However, when CT shows high density and MRI shows mixed density in the tumor area even without enhancement, the possibility of myelolipoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

Neurologists have a difficult time identifying sporadic cerebellar ataxia. Multiple system atrophy of the cerebellar type (MSA-C), spontaneous late cortical cerebellar atrophy, and prolonged alcohol use are a few possible causes. In a group of people with sporadic cerebellar ataxia that was not MSA-C, an autosomal-dominant spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) mutation was recently discovered. Chinese single-hospital cohort will be used in this study to genetic screen for SCA-related genes. One hundred forty individuals with CA were monitored over 8 years. Thirty-one individuals had familial CA, 109 patients had sporadic CA, 73 had MSA-C, and 36 had non-MSA-C sporadic CA. In 28 of the 31 non-MSA-C sporadic patients who requested the test, we carried out gene analysis, including SCA1, SCA2, SCA3, SCA6, SCA7, SCA8, SCA12, SCA17, SCA31, and dentatorubro-pallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA). The control group consisted of family members of the patients. In 57% of the instances with spontaneous CA that were not MSA-C, gene abnormalities were discovered. The most frequent exception among individuals with sporadic CA was SCA6 (36%), followed by monsters in SCA1, 2, 3, 8, and DRPLA. In contrast, 75% of the patients with familial CA had gene abnormalities, the most frequent of which was SCA6 abnormality. The age of 69 vs 59 was higher, and the CAG repeat length was a minor age of 23 vs 25 in the former instances compared to the last one among individuals with SCA6 anomalies that were sporadic as opposed to familial cases. In sporadic CA, autosomal-dominant mutations in SCA genes, notably in SCA6, are common. Although the cause of the increased incidence of SCA6 mutations is unknown, it may be related to a greater age of onset and varied penetrance of SCA6 mutations.

The complexity of the evolution of the permeability of coal is determined by the reservoir structure. Further, there exists an interaction between the fracture matrix, which further complicates changes in permeability. When the actual mining conditions of a coal mine are considered, a permeability model that considered the combined effects of stress, gas adsorption, and temperature was proposed. Subsequently, the model is verified by published test data. Based on the analysis of permeability, a calculation model of the slip coefficient that considered the combined effects of stress, gas adsorption, and temperature is proposed. With respect to this, any change in the slippage coefficient is only determined by the width of the fracture channel, which affected the flow of coal gas. In the process of a temperature increase, the slip coefficient tends to increase and the larger effective stress corresponds to a larger slip coefficient. In addition, under constant-temperature conditions, we also discuss the evolution of coal permeability and the variation of the coal gas slippage factor under different boundary conditions through the proposed model. This study aims to further the understanding of the seepage characteristics and slippage effects of coalbed methane, which would have a positive impact on the mining of coal.

BACKGROUND: Cranionasal communicating tumors often originate from the extra-axial intracranial tissue, nasal cavity, and sinuses, and mostly invade the anterior skull base, leading to communication between the cranial and nasal cavities. Cranionasal communicating tumors are clinically rare and thus have been rarely reported in the literature. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical outcomes of combined transcranial and endoscopic transnasal approaches in the surgical management of cranionasal communicating tumors. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed patients with cranionasal communicating tumors treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, Jinhua Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University, from July 2017 to March 2020. All patients were surgically treated using combined transcranial and endoscopic transnasal approaches or the cranionasal dual approach, and skull base reconstruction was performed simultaneously. The postoperative gross tumor resection rate, perioperative complications, and postoperative efficacy were evaluated. RESULTS: Eleven patients with 14-37 months of follow-up were included. Eight patients underwent total resection, two patients underwent subtotal resection, and one patient was treated with partial resection. Postoperative pathological diagnoses revealed four olfactory neuroblastomas, three atypical meningiomas, two recurrent papilloma malignancies, one recurrent invasive pituitary tumor, and one recurrent invasive pituitary adenocarcinoma. Among the 11 patients, severe cerebral edema was observed postoperatively in one patient, and decompression craniectomy was performed. Intracranial infection was observed in two patients, including one with transient cerebrospinal fluid leakage, which was cured after symptomatic treatment. Moreover, postoperative ocular dysmotility and worse olfactory sensation were observed in one and two patients, respectively. The mean follow-up time of the 11 patients was (24.4 ± 5.7) months. The one-year survival rate of the patients was 100%; 10 patients (90.9%) had a favorable outcome (Glasgow Outcome Scale score of 4-5), and only one patient (9.1%) had a Glasgow Outcome Scale score of 3. Furthermore, during the last follow-up, tumor recurrence occurred in two patients (18.2%). CONCLUSION: Surgical treatment of cranionasal communicating tumors using the cranionasal dual approach and simultaneous skull base reconstruction improves the gross tumor resection rate with fewer postoperative complications and good short-term efficacy.

Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are a group of autosomal dominant neurodegenerative diseases that are characterized by cerebellar ataxia. The most common types of SCAs are caused by polyglutamine (polyQ)-encoding cytosine-adenine-guanine repeat expansions. Autosomal dominant SCAs share similar pathophysiological mechanisms. The cerebellum plays an important role in the generation and control of eye movement, and neuropathological findings indicate that cerebellar degeneration is commonly present in polyQ-SCAs. As a result, various patterns of oculomotor impairment are present in most SCA subtypes. The present review summarizes the visual oculomotor abnormalities and vestibulo-ocular reflex dynamics of the most common polyQ-SCAs, as well as their genetic, clinical and neuropathological features. In conclusion, the systemic evaluation of eye movement features is useful in the differential diagnosis of polyQ-SCAs.

OBJECTIVES: PLU1 is upregulated in many cancers, including breast, mammary, colorectal, and hepatocellular carcinoma. However, little is known about the potential metabolic mechanisms of PLU1 in glioma progression. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between PLU1 and glioma development. METHODS: We analyzed the relationship between PLU1 expression and World Health Organization (WHO) grade using clinical databases and verified the role of PLU1 in glioma development using transcriptome sequencing, Western blotting, Cell Counting Kit 8, colony formation, and wound healing assays. The relationship between PLU1 and glioma glucose metabolism was also initially explored by changing the concentration of glucose in the culture medium and was validated by metabolomics and energy metabolism. RESULT: PLU1 expression was closely related to WHO grade and was significantly elevated in tumor tissues compared to nontumor tissues. Knockdown or inhibition of PLU1 inhibits proliferation and migration of glioma cells. In addition, we found that PLU1 expression was closely associated with glioma metabolism by transcriptomic, metabolomic, and energy-related molecular analyses and correlated with glucose metabolism. We also found that glucose concentration affects PLU1 expression, and that PLU1 expression affects intracellular glucose levels. CONCLUSION: PLU1 is a novel regulator of metabolic reprograming and a novel strategy for the treatment of glioma.

Previous studies have identified multiple viruses in dead or severely diseased pangolins, but descriptions of the virome in healthy pangolins are lacking. This poses a greater risk of cross-species transmission due to poor preventive awareness and frequent interactions with breeders. In this study, we investigated the viral composition of 34 pangolins with no signs of disease at the time of sampling and characterized a large number of arthropod-associated viruses belonging to 11 families and vertebrate viruses belonging to eight families, including those with pathogenic potential in humans and animals. Several important vertebrate viruses were identified in the pangolins, including parvovirus, pestivirus, and picobirnavirus. The picobirnavirus was clustered with human and grey teal picobirnaviruses. Viruses with cross-species transmission ability were also identified, including circovirus, rotavirus, and astrovirus. Our study revealed that pangolins are frequently exposed to arthropod-associated viruses in the wild and can carry many vertebrate viruses under natural conditions. This study provides important insights into the virome of pangolins, underscoring the importance of monitoring potential pathogens in healthy pangolins to prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases in domesticated animals and humans.

BACKGROUND: The treatment for spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is still controversial, especially for hematomas in the basal ganglia. A retrospective case-control study with propensity score matching was performed to compare the outcomes of conventional craniotomy and conservative treatment for patients with minor ICH in the basal ganglia. METHODS: We retrospectively collected the data of consecutive patients with minor basal ganglia hemorrhage from January 2018 to August 2019. We compared clinical outcomes of two groups using propensity score matching. The extended Glasgow outcome scale obtained by phone interviews based on questionnaires at a 12-month follow-up was used as the primary outcome measure. According to a previous prognosis algorithm, patients were divided into good and poor prognosis groups to obtain a dichotomized (favorable or unfavorable) outcome as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included hospitalized complications, mortality, and modified Rankin score at 12 months. RESULTS: A total of 54 patients were analyzed, and the baseline characteristics of patients in the surgery and conservative treatment groups were well matched. The primary favorable outcome at 12 months was significantly higher in the conservative treatment group than in the surgery group (81% vs 44%; OR 1.833, 95% CI 1.159-2.900; P=0.005). The incidence of pneumonia in the surgery group was significantly higher than that in the conservative treatment group (P=0.005). CONCLUSIONS: It is not recommended to undertake conventional craniotomy for patients with a minor hematoma (25-40 ml) in the basal ganglia. An open craniotomy might induce worse long-term functional outcomes than the conservative treatment.

Objective: Although liver diseases have already been identified as a risk factor for increased recurrence and mortality in patients with chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), the association between subclinical liver disease, specifically liver fibrosis (LF), and CSDH remains unknown. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the association between the LF scores and CSDH recurrence. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with CSDH who underwent burr-hole irrigation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between January 2015 and December 2018. The clinical data were collected, and the LF scores were calculated including aspartate aminotransferase-platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis-4 (FIB-4), and Forns index. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was applied to identify the association between the LF scores and CSDH recurrence, and Cox regression model and Fine-Gray competing risks model were performed to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) for CSDH recurrence based on time-to-event outcomes. The C-statistic, the integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and the net reclassification improvement (NRI) evaluated the additive value of the LF scores to predict the recurrence of CSDH. Results: A total of 419 patients with CSDH were included, hematoma recurrence was observed in 62 patients (14.80%) within 1 year after surgery. The LF scores were significantly higher in those who recurred, whereas the standard hepatic assays were mostly normal. The patients were assigned to groups of high and low LF scores based on the validated cut-offs; compared with the subjects with low scores, those with high score levels had significantly higher recurrence rates. After adjusting for potential confounders, the LF scores were independently associated with CSDH recurrence, multivariable-adjusted HRs (95% CI) for those with higher levels of APRI, FIB-4, and Forns score were 4.32 (1.37-13.60), 2.56 (1.20-5.43), and 2.02 (1.07-3.79) for the recurrence of CSDH, respectively. Moreover, adding the APRI to the conventional model improved the C-statistic from 0.731 to 0.763, with an NRI and IDI of 7.50 and 1.35%, respectively. Two further commonly-used LF score indices (FIB-4 score and Forns index) yielded comparable results. Conclusions: The data from this study first indicated that the high LF scores were significantly associated with the recurrence of CSDH and that careful follow-up in these patients may be needed.

In this study, we investigate the association of serum calcium with coagulopathy and hemorrhagic progression contusion (HPC) in patients with traumatic intraparenchymal hemorrhage (tIPH), and further explore the interaction and mediation effect between serum calcium and coagulopathy on HPC. We conducted retrospective analyses of patients with tIPH admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between January 2016 to December 2019. The clinical data, coagulation parameters, and serum calcium levels were collected for further analysis. Multi-variate logistic regression analysis was applied to identify the association of serum calcium level with coagulopathy and HPC. Causal mediation analysis (CMA) and additive interaction model were used to estimate the interaction and mediation effect between serum calcium as well as coagulopathy on HPC. Additionally, we repeated the analysis using corrected calcium. A total of 473 patients were included in this study. Of these, 54 (11.4%) patients had hypocalcemia at admission, 105 (22.2%) presented with coagulopathy, and 187 (39.5%) experienced HPC. Admission serum calcium level in patients presented with coagulopathy and HPC were 8.84 (interquartile range [IQR]: 8.44-9.40] and 8.92 (IQR: 8.48-9.40) mg/dL respectively, which were significantly lower than that of patients without coagulopathy (9.10 [IQR: 8.68-9.88] and 9.12 [IQR: 8.72-9.89] mg/dL; all p < 0.001). Multi-variate logistic regression analysis identified that hypocalcemia emerged as an independent risk factor for coagulopathy and HPC. However, no significant interaction was detected between hypocalcemia and coagulopathy. CMA showed that the mediator coagulopathy explained 24.4% (95% confidence interval: 4.7-65.0%; p = 0.006) of the association between hypocalcemia and HPC. Moreover, comparable results were held using corrected calcium, as well. Admission serum calcium level is associated with the HPC for patients with tIPH and this relationship is partially mediated by coagulopathy, but no significant interaction is detected. Further studies are needed to validate the findings and explore its mechanisms.

Meningeal carcinomatosis (MC) is reported to occur in 4%-15% of patients with solid tumors. MC is not commonly associated with gastric carcinoma and is extremely rare in patients with early gastric cancer (EGC). MC derived from EGC after curative endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has not been reported before. We present a rare case of a 49-year-old patient who developed MC after curative ESD of EGC. The cancer was an ulcerated lesion approximately 1.0 cm in diameter in endoscopic appearance in the minor curvature of the gastric antrum. The pathological examination after ESD indicated high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (1.3 × 2.1 cm in size) with localized moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (0-IIc in tumor stage, intestinal type in Lauren classification), which was confined to the mucosal layer with an intact submucosal layer and muscularis propria. The lesion was removed entirely by curative dissection without vertical and horizontal resection margins involvement in pathology. Two months after ESD, the patient was readmitted for severe headache and vomiting. Cytological examination of the cerebrospinal fluid found malignant tumor cells, which were considered by pathologists to have metastasized from the stomach, further confirming MC derived from EGC. The patient's condition deteriorated dramatically, which prevented him from receiving further therapies, such as chemotherapy, and he died 3 days after the diagnosis of MC. In conclusion, EGC can cause MC, even after curative ESD. New neurological manifestations in patients with EGC can alert physicians to a diagnosis of MC, and more attention needs to be paid to evaluating the nervous system and establishing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies as soon as possible.

Duckweed-based waste stabilization ponds (DWPs) have been widely used in wastewater treatment. However, the effects of sediment, an essential component of DWPs, on their performance have rarely been studied. In this study, two pilot-scale DWPs (12 m2) with sediment (DPS) and without sediment (DP) were evaluated over more than 1 year to determine the effects of sediment on duckweed growth, wastewater treatment, and greenhouse gas (GHG) production and emission in DWPs. The results indicated that the annual average duckweed growth rate were comparable, but protein content, carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) recovery rates of duckweed were slightly higher in the DPS than in the DP. Meanwhile, the dissolved oxygen (DO) and oxidation reduction potential (ORP), removal efficiencies of COD, TP, TN, NH4+-N, and turbidity of pond water from the DPS were significantly lower than for DP. More importantly, the DPS had considerably higher CH4 production/emission and global warming potential (GWP) than the DP, even though more than 90% of CH4 released from the sediment was consumed during its passage through the water column and duckweed layer. Sediment increased the recoveries of C and N by 7.94% and 8.82%, respectively. Influencing degree for COD, TP, TN, NH4+-N and turbidity were -27.92%, -20.98%, -22.61%, -24.13% and -14.91%, respectively; for pond water DO and ORP, the values were - 35.68% and -44.59%, respectively; and for CO2, CH4 and N2O emission and "combined GWP", they were 21.66%, 271.67%, -8.47% and 178.02%, respectively. Thus, this study indicates that sediment formed in the DWPs has a multi-faced effect on the performance of a DWP. In particular, sediment has an unfavourable effect on the wastewater treatment and the GHGs mitigation, but a favourable effect on the protein content and the C and N recoveries in duckweed.

Multiterritory perforator flap survival is commonly applied in surgical tissue reconstructions and covering of large skin defects. However, multiple risk factors such as ischemia, reperfusion injury, and apoptosis after reconstructive surgeries cause necrosis in distal parts with outcomes ranging from poor aesthetic appearance to reconstructive failure. A few studies have reported that sitagliptin (Sit) promotes angiogenesis and inhibits apoptosis. However, little is known about Sit-induced autophagy especially on the flap model. Therefore, our study investigated the effect of Sit and its induced autophagy on the perforator flap survival. Ninety male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly separated into control, Sit, and Sit+3-methyladenine group. Results revealed that Sit significantly promoted flap survival by enhancing angiogenesis, reducing oxidative stress, and attenuating apoptosis. In addition, flap survival was further improved after co-administration with 3-methyladenine to inhibit autophagy. Overall, our results established that Sit has positive effects in promoting survival of multiterritory perforator flap. Sit-induced autophagy was detrimental for flap survival and its inhibition may further improve flap survival.

Agricultural drainage ditches can prevent flooding and mitigate agricultural pollution; however, the performance is unsatisfactory in plateau areas like the Dianchi Lake basin. Thus, a novel double-layer ditch system (DDS) with a fibrous packing as biofilm carriers was developed to form the carrier-attached biofilms and enhance the pollutant removal. The results indicated the DDS performed better than a single-layer ditch system, and annual average removal efficiencies of TN, NO3--N, NH4+-N, TP, COD and SS were 18.61%, 17.13%, 7.74%, 11.90%, 11.95% and 23.71%, respectively. High amount and carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus contents of biofilms are favourable to pollutant removal by DDS. Although bacterial diversity of biofilms remained relatively stable throughout the year, the relative abundance of dominant assemblages varied greatly. Denitrifying microorganisms affiliated with Bacteroidetes might contribute to effective NO3--N reduction. This study demonstrates DDS performed well and provides a novel method for application of biofilm carriers in drainage ditches.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the long-term outcomes after percutaneous reduction (PR) and screw fixation versus plate fixation via the sinus tarsi approach (STA) for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACF). METHODS: This retrospective study included a total of 150 patients (June 2008-August 2011), comprising 85 men and 65 women (mean age, 38.4 years), who were assigned to the PR group or the STA group. The inclusion criteria were DIACF (>2 mm) including Sanders type II and III, closed fracture, unilateral fracture, no history of smoking or no smoking during hospitalization and 3 months after surgery, and follow-up time not less than 8 years. The exclusion criteria were clear surgical contraindications (severe cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases), local or systemic infection symptoms, diagnosis with diabetes or lower extremity vascular disease, and Sanders type IV or open fractures. Outcomes were assessed by means of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hindfoot scores, radiographic images, and postoperative complications. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 8.7 years (range, 8.0-10.0 years). The AOFAS scores in the PR group during the follow-up period were 54.2 ± 5.1, 85.8 ± 4.0, 88.1 ± 3.8, 87.9 ± 3.6, 87.8 ± 3.9, 86.9 ± 3.9, respectively, and in the STA group were 55.0 ± 5.6, 84.5 ± 5.2, 87.1 ± 3.8, 86.9 ± 3.8, 87.7 ± 3.3, and 87.6 ± 2.8, respectively. There was no significant difference in AOFAS scores, Bohler's angle, Gissane's angle, calcaneal length, and height between the two groups (P > 0.05). The good to excellent rate of the PR group (80.8%) was less than that of the STA group (91.7%) (P = 0.055). For Sanders III fractures, the good to excellent rate of the PR group (33.3%) was less than that of the STA group (76.9%) (P = 0.029). For calcaneal width recovery, the STA group performed better than the PR group (P < 0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the PR group (12.8%) was lower than that in the STA group (27.8%) (P = 0.026), of which the incidence of wound complications was 3.8% in the PR group and 13.9% in the STA group (P = 0.041). In addition, there was no significant difference in other postoperative complications such as sural nerve injury, peroneus longus and brevis muscle injury, calcaneal valgus symptoms, lateral impingement symptoms, and subtalar arthritis (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: From the 8-10-year follow-up results of PR and STA as surgical procedures for the treatment of DIACF, it was found that there was no significant difference in the overall efficacy between them. STA was found to be superior to the PR in terms of the recovery of calcaneal width, providing more stable fixation for Sanders III fractures. PR was found to be more effective in reducing wound complications.

Plenty of evidence has suggested that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a vital role in competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. Poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma (PDHCC) is a malignant phenotype. This paper aimed to explore the effect and the underlying regulatory mechanism of lncRNAs on PDHCC as a kind of ceRNA. Additionally, prognosis prediction was assessed. A total of 943 messenger RNAs (mRNAs), 86 miRNAs, and 468 lncRNAs that were differentially expressed between 137 PDHCCs and 235 well-differentiated HCCs were identified. Thereafter, a ceRNA network related to the dysregulated lncRNAs was established according to bioinformatic analysis and included 29 lncRNAs, 9 miRNAs, and 96 mRNAs. RNA-related overall survival (OS) curves were determined using the Kaplan-Meier method. The lncRNA ARHGEF7-AS2 was markedly correlated with OS in HCC (P = .041). Moreover, Cox regression analysis revealed that patients with low ARHGEF7-AS2 expression were associated with notably shorter survival time (P = .038). In addition, the area under the curve values of the lncRNA signature for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival were 0.806, 0.741, and 0.701, respectively. Furthermore, a lncRNA nomogram was established, and the C-index of the internal validation was 0.717. In vitro experiments were performed to demonstrate that silencing ARHGEF7-AS2 expression significantly promoted HCC cell proliferation and migration. Taken together, our findings shed more light on the ceRNA network related to lncRNAs in PDHCC, and ARHGEF7-AS2 may be used as an independent biomarker to predict the prognosis of HCC.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia is a major public health problem affecting older people. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and clinical risk factors of insomnia in a representative sample of Chinese elderly (≥ 60 years) in Chongqing. METHODS: A cross-sectional study based on comprehensive geriatric assessment was conducted from January 2013 to February 2014. A questionnaire on sleep status was provided to each patient and insomnia was assessed according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition criteria. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to illustrate risk factors correlated with insomnia. RESULTS: Of the total 597 participants, 55.4% suffered from insomnia. The prevalence of insomnia in men and women was 48.2% and 63.2%, respectively. Coronary heart disease, dizziness, chronic pain, anorexia, malnutrition, depression and cognitive decline were identified as risk factors associated with insomnia. Hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, headache, age and education level were not observed to be significantly associated with insomnia. CONCLUSIONS: Insomnia is highly prevalent among the elderly in Chongqing, and shows a positive correlation to coronary heart disease, dizziness, chronic pain, anorexia, malnutrition, depression, cognitive impairment. Moreover, women are more likely to experience insomnia than men.

House price modeling has been frequently used to investigate the dynamics of housing markets, especially competitive markets; yet less attention has been given to markets that have experienced considerable interventions. The aim of this study is to demonstrate a mismatch between conventional house price models and the case of the Netherlands and to provide reasons of such mismatch. We first describe and classify the conventional house price models into asset-pricing house price model, stock-flow model, multi-period utility model, and repayment model. These models are subsequently applied to the Netherlands, where considerable government interventions took place. As expected, the empirical results are unsatisfactory to explain the Dutch house price development. The degree of mismatch of the repayment model and the multi-period utility model, however, seems to be fairly limited.

OBJECTIVES: Increasing evidence has demonstrated that vascular risk factors (VRFs) contribute to cognitive impairment in the elderly population. Prevention and administration of VRFs can be a vital strategy for delaying cognitive impairment. This study aimed to determine the impact of VRFs on cognitive function of the aged people from Chongqing, Southwest China. METHODS: A total of 597 participants (≥60 years) from hospital and community population were enrolled in the cross-sectional study. Participants were screened for hypertension, coronary heart disease (CHD), and cerebrovascular disease (CVD). Blood pressure (BP) and blood lipid were also measured. Cognitive function was assessed with Mini-Mental State Examination and Clinical Dementia Rating. Logistic regression analysis was used to look for VRFs impacting mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Then we investigated the relationship between different types of vascular diseases and MCI. RESULTS: A total of 457 participants showed normal cognitive function and 140 participants showed MCI. After adjusting for age, gender, and education, logistic regression analysis demonstrated that hypertension, CHD, systolic BP, total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were independently associated with MCI; however, CVD, diastolic BP, triglyceride, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were not associated with MCI. Moreover, vascular diseases significantly contributed to MCI compared with no vascular disease; however, no significant difference in incident MCI was found among different combinations of vascular diseases. CONCLUSIONS: Hypertension, CHD, TC, and LDL-C are independent risk factors for MCI. Moreover, patients with vascular diseases have a higher risk of MCI; however, the amount of vascular diseases does not increase the risk of MCI.
