COVID-19: Abdominal and Pelvic Imaging Findings: A Primer for Radiologists.

ABSTRACT: The COVID-19 pandemic presents an ongoing global health threat. The SARS-CoV-2 is known to cause substantial pulmonary disease, and most of the current radiological publications are dedicated to describing and characterizing these findings. However, studies regarding imaging findings in the abdomen and pelvis of infected patients are still very limited. The aim of this review is to discuss the most frequent abdominal manifestations based on the current literature and representative images from our local experience.

Es la ecografía obstétrica una técnica diagnóstica más?: cuidando al cuidador / Is a diagnostic obstetric ultrasound more?: caring for the cargiver

A partir de 20 años de trabajo clínico en la maternidad, se han desarrollado distintas líneas de intervención con las pacientes y el equipo de salud. En base a esta experiencia se creó un programa de formación continua –a nivel nacional– dirigido a ecografistas, con el objetivo de disminuir el impacto personal (burnout) que la práctica de la técnica diagnóstica genera a partir de la relación médico-paciente, y mejorar las habilidades y destrezas de comunicación. Se trabajaron aspectos teóricos relacionados a la comunicación, enfocados desde las características emocionales y vinculares propias de la mujer embarazada. A partir de este marco teórico general se trabajó con metodología de talleres (focus groups), la comunicación en la realización de la ecografía, la comunicación de malas noticias y el impacto en el profesional en este proceso. Este trabajo busca transmitir el material recabado a partir de un trabajo de autoobservación y autorreflexión de diferentes grupos de ecografistas, del cual surgen situaciones de alto impacto emocional relacionadas con el ejercicio de su profesión y las estrategias creadas por ellos (mecanismos de afrontamiento) para la resolución de los mismos. De este material surgen nuevas guías para la prevención del burnout del equipo de salud.

After 20 years of working in the maternity clinic, we have developed different lines of intervention with patients and the health team. Within this line of work we created a training program nationally directed to sonographers, with the aim of reducing the personal impact (burnout) from the practice of the diagnostic technique and to improve the physician-patient relationship. Theoretical aspects related to communication focus from the emotional and relational characteristic of the pregnant woman, were discussed. From this general framework, a series of workshops (focus groups) specifically on communication in the implementation of ultrasound, breaking bad news and impact on health professionals in the process. This work seeks to convey the collected material from a work of introspection and self-observation of different groups of sonographers that arise situations of high emotional impact related to the exercise of their profession and the strategies created by them (coping mechanisms) for the resolution. The material obtained brought new elements to guide the health care team to prevent burnout.
