BACKGROUND: Neurocognitive dysfunction is observationally associated with the risk of psychiatric disorders. Blood metabolites, which are readily accessible, may become highly promising biomarkers for brain disorders. However, the causal role of blood metabolites in neurocognitive function, and the biological pathways underlying their association with psychiatric disorders remain unclear. METHODS: To explore their putative causalities, we conducted bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) using genetic variants associated with 317 human blood metabolites (nmax = 215,551), g-Factor (an integrated index of multiple neurocognitive tests with nmax = 332,050), and 10 different psychiatric disorders (n = 9,725 to 807,553) from the large-scale genome-wide association studies of European ancestry. Mediation analysis was used to assess the potential causal pathway among the candidate metabolite, neurocognitive trait and corresponding psychiatric disorder. RESULTS: MR evidence indicated that genetically predicted acetylornithine was positively associated with g-Factor (0.035 standard deviation units increase in g-Factor per one standard deviation increase in acetylornithine level; 95% confidence interval, 0.021 to 0.049; P = 1.15 × 10-6). Genetically predicted butyrylcarnitine was negatively associated with g-Factor (0.028 standard deviation units decrease in g-Factor per one standard deviation increase in genetically proxied butyrylcarnitine; 95% confidence interval, -0.041 to -0.015; P = 1.31 × 10-5). There was no evidence of associations between genetically proxied g-Factor and metabolites. Furthermore, the mediation analysis via two-step MR revealed that the causal pathway from acetylornithine to bipolar disorder was partly mediated by g-Factor, with a mediated proportion of 37.1%. Besides, g-Factor mediated the causal pathway from butyrylcarnitine to schizophrenia, with a mediated proportion of 37.5%. Other neurocognitive traits from different sources provided consistent findings. CONCLUSION: Our results provide genetic evidence that acetylornithine protects against bipolar disorder through neurocognitive abilities, while butyrylcarnitine has an adverse effect on schizophrenia through neurocognition. These findings may provide insight into interventions at the metabolic level for risk of neurocognitive and related disorders.

The conversion of woody biomass to H2 through photocatalysis provides a sustainable strategy to generate renewable hydrogen fuel but was limited by the slow decomposition rate of woody biomass. Here, we fabricate ultrasmall TiO2 nanoparticles with tunable concentration of oxygen vacancy defects (VO-TiO2) as highly efficient photocatalysts for photocatalytic conversion of woody biomass to H2. Owing to the positive role of oxygen vacancy in reducing energy barrier for the generation of •OH which was the critical species to oxidize woody biomass, the obtained VO-TiO2 achieves rapid photocatalytic conversion of α-cellulose and poplar wood chip to H2 in the presence of Pt nanoclusters as the cocatalyst. As expected, the highest H2 generation rate in α-cellulose and poplar wood chip system respectively achieve 1146 and 59 µmol h-1 g-1, and an apparent quantum yield of 4.89% at 380 nm was obtained in α-cellulose aqueous solution.

Inorganic NiOx has attracted tremendous attention in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in recent years but is relatively less used in all-inorganic PSCs. In this study, we have discovered and confirmed the detrimental interfacial reaction between NiOx and DMAI-containing CsPbI3 inorganic perovskites. Thus, a self-assembled monolayer, Br-2PACz, is employed to modify the NiOx surface to obstruct the adverse interfacial reaction and further improve the device performance. The results demonstrate that Br-2PACz modification on NiOx can also improve interface contact, perovskite film morphology, and energy level alignments. Consequently, a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.34% with a high open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.15 V is obtained for inverted NiOx/Br-2PACz-based CsPbI3 PSCs compared to the reference NiOx-based PSC with a moderate PCE of 15.16% (VOC 1.05 V). Moreover, the stabilities of both CsPbI3 films and devices exhibited significant enhancement after Br-2PACz modification. The unpacked PSCs could maintain 80, 73, and 89% of the initial efficiency after aging in 30-35% RH for 960 h, heating at 60 °C for 48 h, and continuous illumination for 284 h, respectively, highly superior to the reference devices. Our work offers a facile and effective approach for developing high-performance inverted NiOx-based CsPbI3 PSCs.

BACKGROUND: Integrated immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) plus tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are now the recommended first-line therapy to manage renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Proteasome 26S subunit non-ATPase 2 (PSMD2) overexpression in tumors has been correlated with tumor progression. Currently, mRCC lacks an established biomarker for the combination of ICI+TKI. METHODS: This study involved RNA sequencing of RCC patients from two cohorts treated with ICI+TKI (ZS-MRCC and JAVELIN-Renal-101). We utilized immunohistochemistry alongside flow cytometry, aiming at assessing immune cell infiltration and functionality in high-risk localized RCC samples. Response and progression-free survival (PFS) were evaluated relying upon RECIST criteria. RESULTS: PSMD2 was significantly overexpressed in advanced RCC and among non-responders to ICI+TKI therapy. Overexpressed PSMD2 was correlated with poor PFS in the ZS-MRCC and JAVELIN-101 cohorts. Multivariate Cox analysis validated PSMD2 as an independent PFS predictor. PSMD2 overexpression was related to a reduction in CD8+ T cells, especially GZMB+ CD8+ T cells, besides an increase in PD1+ CD4+ T cells. Additionally, tumors with high PSMD2 levels showed enhanced T cell exhaustion levels and a higher regulatory T cell presence. A Machine Learning (ML) model based on PSMD2 expression and other screened factors was subsequently developed to predict the effectiveness of ICI+TKI. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated PSMD2 expression is linked to resistance and decreased PFS in mRCC patients undergoing ICI+TKI therapy. High PSMD2 levels are also associated with impaired function and increased exhaustion of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. An ML model incorporating PSMD2 expression could potentially identify patients who may have a higher likelihood of benefiting from ICI+TKI.

At a global level, the supply of protein sources is insufficient to support the current magnitude of pig production. Moreover, given the exorbitant expense of conventional protein feed options like soybean meal and fish meal, it becomes imperative to promptly explore alternative sources of protein feed for the sustainable advancement of the pig industry. Cottonseed meal, a by-product from the extraction of cottonseed oil, exhibits significant potential as a protein source for pig feed owing to its high protein content, high yield, low cost, well-balanced amino acid composition, and sufficient accessibility. However, cottonseed meal possesses several anti-nutritional factors, especially gossypol, which adversely affect growth and reproductive performance, resulting in the limited utilization of cottonseed meal in pig feed. To maximize the benefits of cottonseed meal and promote its application in pig production, it is imperative to acquire comprehensive knowledge regarding its nutritional value and current utilization. In this review, we initially presented a summary of the nutritional values of cottonseed meal, primary anti-nutritional factors, and effective approaches for improving its utilization as a protein source feed. Subsequently, we comprehensively summarized the latest research progress of cottonseed meal application in pig nutrition over the past decade. The outcome of this review serves as a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for the research and application of cottonseed meal in pig nutrition and promotes the reduction of soybean meal utilization in the pig industry.

Enhancing the robustness of vision algorithms in real-world scenarios is challenging. One reason is that existing robustness benchmarks are limited, as they either rely on synthetic data or ignore the effects of individual nuisance factors. We introduce OOD-CV-v2, a benchmark dataset that includes out-of-distribution examples of 10 object categories in terms of pose, shape, texture, context and the weather conditions, and enables benchmarking of models for image classification, object detection, and 3D pose estimation. In addition to this novel dataset, we contribute extensive experiments using popular baseline methods, which reveal that: 1) Some nuisance factors have a much stronger negative effect on the performance compared to others, also depending on the vision task. 2) Current approaches to enhance robustness have only marginal effects, and can even reduce robustness. 3) We do not observe significant differences between convolutional and transformer architectures. We believe our dataset provides a rich test bed to study robustness and will help push forward research in this area. AIMS: Succinate, a metabolite in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, is increasingly recognized to play essential roles in inflammation by functioning either as an intracellular or extracellular signaling molecule. However, the role and mechanisms of succinate in inflammation remain elusive. Here, we investigated the mechanism underlying the effects of succinate on neuroinflammation in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) models. RESULTS: We unexpectedly found that succinate robustly inhibited neuroinflammation and conferred protection following ICH. Mechanistically, oxidation of succinate by succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) drove reverse electron transport (RET) at mitochondrial complex I, leading to mitochondrial superoxide production in microglia. Complex I-derived superoxide, in turn, activated uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2). By using mice with specific deletion of UCP2 in microglia/macrophage, we showed that UCP2 was needed for succinate to inhibit neuroinflammation, confer protection, and activate downstream AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) following ICH. Moreover, knockdown of SDH, complex I or AMPK abolished the therapeutic effects of succinate following ICH. INNOVATION AND CONCLUSION: We provide evidence that driving complex I RET to activate UCP2 is a novel mechanism of succinate intracellular signaling and a mechanism underlying the inhibition of neuroinflammation by succinate. BACKGROUND: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent urological disease in elderly males. However, few studies have estimated the temporal and spatial distributions of the BPH burden in male adults aged 60 years and over at the global, national, and regional scales. METHODS: Leveraging the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study, we estimated the global epidemiological trends in the prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of BPH in 204 countries and 21 regions and 5 sociodemographic index (SDI) regions in males aged 60 years and over between 1990 and 2019. The average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) in age-specific rates were estimated to quantify overall trends. We estimated the contribution of population aging and epidemiological alterations in disease burden via composition analysis. RESULTS: Over the past three decades, the global prevalent cases, incident cases and DALYs of BPH have increased, ranging from 118.78 to 121.22%. The global number of prevalent BPH cases reached 79 million in people aged 60 years and older in 2019. The prevalence, incidence, and DALYs rates gradually increased, with AAPCs of 0.02, 0.02, and 0.01, respectively. Low-middle, middle, and low SDI regions experienced rapid increases in the number of prevalent cases of BPH. In 2019, China, India, and United States of America bore the largest burden of prevalent cases among people aged 60 years and over. The three regions with the highest prevalence rates of BPH were Eastern Europe, Central Latin America, and Andean Latin America. The increased prevalence was attributed to population growth (94.93%), epidemiological changes (3.45%), and aging (1.62%), globally. CONCLUSIONS: BPH is a global health issue that imposes substantial economic burdens on most countries, particularly males aged 60 years and over. Effective health decisions are imperative for BPH prevention and treatment.

RESUMEN

The electroreduction of CO2 to valuable fuels or high-value chemicals by using sustainable electric energy provides a promising strategy for solving environmental problems dominated by the greenhouse effect. Copper-based materials are the only catalysts that can convert CO2 into multicarbon products, but they are plagued by high potential, low selectivity, and poor stability. The key factors to optimize the conversion of CO2 into multicarbon products are to improve the adsorption capacity of intermediates on the catalyst surface, accelerate the hydrogenation step, and improve the C-C coupling efficiency. Herein, we successfully doped Lewis acid Mg into Cu-based materials using a simple liquid-phase chemical method. In situ Raman and FT-IR tracking show that the Mg site enhances the surface coverage of the *CO intermediate, simultaneously promoting water dissociation. Under an industrial current density of 0.7 A cm-2, the FEC2+ reaches 73.9 ± 3.48% with remarkable stability. Density functional theory studies show that doping the Lewis acid Mg site increases the coverage of *CO and accelerates the splitting of water, thus promoting the C-C coupling efficiency, reducing the reaction energy barrier, and greatly improving the selectivity of C2+ products.

RESUMEN

The recent advancements of ionic liquids (ILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in the synthesis of cobalt-based catalysts for water splitting is reviewed. ILs and DESs possess unique physical and chemical properties, serving as solvents, templates, and reagents. Combined with calcination techniques, their advantages can be fully leveraged, enhancing the stability and activity of resulted catalysts. In these solvents, not only are they suitable for simple one-step calcination, but also applicable to more complex multi-step calcination, suitable for more complex reaction conditions. The designability of ILs and DESs allows them to participate in the reaction as reactants, providing metal and heteroatoms, simplifying the preparation system of cobalt phosphide, sulfide, and nitride. This work offers insights into design principles for electrocatalysts and practical guidance for the development of efficient and high-performance materials for hydrogen production and energy storage systems.

Background: Different dietary habits can have varying effects on human health and metabolism, and these can be intervened and regulated. Kidney stones, as a disease caused by multiple factors, are largely attributed to diet and metabolism, but the potential causal relationship with dietary intake habits remains unclear. Therefore, this study aims to link the predicted dietary intake based on 45 genetic factors with urolithiasis and explore the potential causal relationship. Methods: We extracted complete genome-wide association studies (GWASs) data on 45 dietary intake traits from the UK Biobank study. Data on kidney stones were obtained from the FinnGen database. In both univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization analyses, we used inverse variance weighted (IVW) as the primary method to calculate P values, odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We examined result heterogeneity using Cochran's Q test. We also carefully investigated potential sources of horizontal pleiotropy using the Mendelian randomization (MR)-PRESSO and MR-Egger methods, and conducted linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) analysis on the corrected P values. Results: Through univariable analysis, we identified 11 dietary habits that potentially causally associate with kidney stones among the 45 examined traits, including 9 protective factors and 2 risk factors. Based on the corrected results with false discovery rate (FDR) and sensitivity analysis, we found one relatively robust evidence. We controlled for common stone risk factors, such as body mass index and smoking, as confounders in multivariable analysis, and no significant results were observed after controlling for these confounders. Based on the LDSC analysis, most of the evidence supports significant genetic correlations with urolithiasis among the 11 traits with potential causal associations. Conclusions: This study confirms the impact of certain dietary factors on the development of kidney stones. Our findings contribute to providing evidence for dietary adjustments in daily life or dietary guidance specifically targeting kidney stone patients.

Background: Daily dietary habits are closely related to human health, and long-term unhealthy dietary intake, such as excessive consumption of alcohol and pickled foods, may promote the development of cancers. However, comprehensive research on the causal relationship between dietary habits and cancer is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to reveal the potential causal link between dietary risk factors and the prognosis of cancer-related to genetic susceptibility. Methods: GWAS (Genome-Wide Association Studies) summary data on dietary habits and five common types of cancer and their pathological subtypes were obtained from the UK Biobank and various cancer association consortia. A univariable two-sample Mendelian randomization (UVMR) and FDR correction analysis was conducted to explore the causal relationships between 45 dietary habits and five common types of cancer and their histopathological subtypes. In addition, multivariable Mendelian randomization analysis (MVMR) was performed to adjust for traditional risk factors for dietary habits, and the direct or indirect effects of diet on cancer were evaluated. Finally, the prognostic impact of selected instrumental variables on cancer was analyzed using an online data platform. Results: In the UVMR analysis, four dietary habits were identified as risk factors for cancer, while five dietary habits were identified as protective factors. Among the latter, one dietary habit showed a significant association with cancer even after FDR correction, indicating a potential causal relationship. The MVMR analysis revealed that weekly beer and cider intake, may act as an independent risk factor for cancer development. Other causal associations between dietary habits and cancer risk may be mediated by intermediate factors. In the prognostic analysis, the SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) of average weekly beer and cider intake were set as independent risk factors and were found to significantly impact overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in lung cancer. Conclusion: This causal relationship study supports the notion that adjusting daily dietary habits and specific dietary interventions may decrease the risk of cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To explore safety differences and perform a gender-based analysis of adverse events related to gemcitabine and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine using the U.S. FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database. METHODS: Using the Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR) and Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR) methods, adverse events associated with gemcitabine and BCG were mined from FAERS database reports spanning from Q1 2004 to Q3 2023. RESULTS: The study extracted 37,855 reports with gemcitabine and 5,455 reports with BCG as the primary suspected drugs. Adverse events were more prevalent in males (male-to-female ratio: gemcitabine 1.10, BCG 4.25). Differences in high-frequency adverse events among the top 20 signals were detected for both drugs. Both drugs affected similar organ systems, including potential pulmonary, ocular, and renal toxicity, with gemcitabine showing a broader range of adverse events. Gender analysis revealed fewer adverse reactions to gemcitabine in females, while males had fewer adverse reactions to BCG. CONCLUSION: Differences in high-frequency adverse events between gemcitabine and BCG, including some not listed on drug labels, were observed. Both drugs affect similar organ systems, with gemcitabine showing a broader range of adverse events. Gender differences in adverse events were notable.

The overuse of antibiotics in treating bacterial infections is a significant threat to the environment and human health. The utilization of visible-light-assisted peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation for eliminating organic pollutants is a promising approach. This study uses a straightforward hydrothermal method to prepare magnetically recyclable spherical Cu2O@Fe3O4. The efficacy of this material in removing antibiotic pollutants was assessed using simulated wastewater containing tetracycline (TC). TC removal was achieved by activating PDS with Cu2O@Fe3O4 as the visible light photocatalyst. Experimental findings revealed that under specific conditions-a pH of 9, a Cu2O@Fe3O4 concentration of 60 mg L-1, and a PDS concentration of 25 mg L-1-the removal rate of TC reached 97.67% after 30 min of irradiation. Moreover, Cu2O@Fe3O4 exhibited excellent recyclability, maintaining a removal rate of 93.33% after five recycling rounds. X-ray diffraction characterization of the Cu2O@Fe3O4 composite before and after cycling confirmed its robust stability and reusability. In situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that electrons migrated from Fe3O4 to Cu2O during the photocatalytic reaction, indicating the formation of an S-type heterojunction in Cu2O@Fe3O4. Free radical trapping experiments demonstrated the active involvement of ·OH, ·O2 -, SO4˙- and h+ radicals in TC removal.

While photochemical deracemization significantly enhances atom economy by eliminating the necessity for additional oxidants or reductants, the laborious presynthesis of substrates from feedstock chemicals is often required, thereby compromising the practicality of this method. In this study, we propose a novel approach known as de novo deracemization synthesis, which involves direct utilization of simple substrates undergoing both photochemical transformation and reversible photochemical transformation. The efficient enantiocontrol of chiral catalysts in the latter process establishes an effective platform for deracemization. This alternative and practical approach to address the challenges of asymmetric photocatalysis has been successfully demonstrated in the photosensitized de novo deracemization synthesis of azaarene-functionalized cyclobutanes featuring three stereocenters, including an all-carbon quaternary center. By exclusively employing a suitable chiral catalyst to enable kinetically controlled [2 + 2] photocycloreversion, we pave a creative path toward achieving more cost-effective photochemical deracemization.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between cardiovascular health (CVH) measured by Life's Essential 8 (LE8) and the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI). METHOD: A cross-section study was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2012. 22,609 people aged ≥ 20 years with complete information on LE8 metrics and UI questionnaires were enrolled. Participants were divided into three groups (low: < 50, moderate: ≥ 50 and < 80, high: ≥ 80) based on the cut-off of LE8. Weighted proportions, multivariable logistic regression analysis and stratified logistic regression were performed to examine the association between LE8 and the prevalence of three types of UI separately (stress UI (SUI), urge UI (UUI), mixed UI (MUI)) by confounding factors adjusted. Spline smooth was conducted to find whether a linear relationship existed. In addition, sensitive analyses were also conducted to observe the stability. RESULT: A total of 22,609 adults were involved in the study, and participants were divided into three groups (low 42.2 ± 6.3, moderate 66.1 ± 8.1, high 86.8 ± 5.1) according to the cut-off points of LE8. The multivariable logistic regression suggested that LE8 is inversely associated with the prevalence of SUI (OR = 0.98, 95%CI 0.98 to 0.99), UUI (OR = 0.98, 95%CI 0.98 to 0.99), and MUI (OR = 0.98, 95%CI 0.97 to 0.98) in the fully-adjusted model. Compared with the low group, people with high scores of LE8 had a lower prevalence of SUI (OR = 0.45, 95%CI 0.37 to 0.55), UUI (OR = 0.49, 95%CI 0.40 to 0.60), and MUI (OR = 0.41, 95%CI 0.30 to 0.55). The result of the sensitive analysis showed the robustness of the main analysis. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of UI (SUI, UUI, or MUI) is inversely associated with the LE8 score, which suggests that maintaining a good CVH with a higher LE8 score is accompanied by lower prevalence rates of UUI, SUI, and MUI.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to investigate the feasibility and value of modular splenic hilar lymphadenectomy (MSHL) in LTG for advanced PGC located at the greater curvature. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective-controlled research included 54 patients diagnosed with advanced PGC located at the greater curvature who underwent LTG combined with spleen-preserving hilar lymphadenectomy between January 2020 and December 2022 at the same treatment center. A total of 20 patients underwent classic splenic hilar lymphadenectomy (CSHL) using a medial approach (classic group), while 34 patients underwent MSHL (modular group). We summarized the technical points, caveats, and critical steps of the MSHL technique and observed and compared clinical indexes between the two groups. RESULTS: All operations were successful without conversion to laparotomy. The mean operation time, mean splenic hilar lymph node dissection (LND) time, median intraoperative blood loss, and blood loss from splenic hilar LND were all significantly lower in the modular group than in the classic group (p < 0.05). The amount of NO.10 lymph nodes (LNs) was significantly higher in the modular group than in the classic group (p < 0.05). In the classic group, one patient experienced intraoperative splenic vein injury, and one experienced spleen laceration, whereas no intraoperative complications occurred in the modular group. The median postoperative feeding time, exhaust time, defecation time, and postoperative stay were all significantly lower in the modular group compared to the classic group (p < 0.05). In the modular group, one patient experienced Clavien-Dindo I complication and one Clavien-Dindo II complication, while in the classic group, one patient experienced Clavien-Dindo II complication and one Clavien-Dindo IIIa complication. There were no patient was re-hospitalized within 30 days after surgery. CONCLUSION: The modular splenic hilar LND technique can simplify complicated surgical procedures in SPSHL and reduce the risk of intraoperative bleeding and collateral damage.

BACKGROUND: Basic helix-loop-helix ARNT like 2 (ARNTL2) is a transcription factor that controls the circadian rhythm. Amounts of studies have demonstrated the carcinogenic function of ARNTL2 in human malignant tumors albeit the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. We aimed to study the significance of ARNTL2 in bladder cancer (BLCA). METHODS: Immunohistochemical staining, immunoblotting and the database from TCGA were used to analyze the clinical relevance of ARNTL2, enolase 1 (ENO1) and solute carrier family 31 member 1 (SLC31A1) in BLCA. The function of ARNTL2 was explored by cell proliferation assay, apoptosis, colony formation and xenografted tumorigenesis. The molecular mechanisms of ARNTL2-driving BLCA development were investigated by RT-qPCR, immunoblotting and luciferase assays. Glycolysis was checked by measuring glucose consumption and lactate production. ENO1 activity was assessed by using indicated assay kit. RESULTS: Overexpression of ARNTL2 facilitates the proliferation and tumorigenesis of BLCA cells through suppression of apoptosis and enhancement of glycolysis. Up-regulation of SLC31A1, ENO1, and enhancement of SLC31A1-mediated ENO1 activity were critical for ARNTL2-triggered glycolysis and malignant growth in BLCA cells. ARNTL2 was positively correlated with SLC31A1 and ENO1 in BLCA patients. High expression of ARNTL2, SLC31A1 or ENO1 predicted the poor prognosis of BLCA patients. Depletion of SLC31A1 and inhibition of glycolysis completely blunted the growth ability of BLCA cells. CONCLUSION: In summary, ARNTL2 facilitates the progression of BLCA via activating ENO1-mediated glycolysis in a SLC31A1-independent and -dependent manner. Inhibiting SLC31A1 and glycolysis may be an aspirational approach for the treatment of BLCA patients with overexpression of ARNTL2.

With the ever-growing global demand for sustainable energy solutions, hydrogen has garnered significant attention as a clean, efficient, and renewable energy source. In the field of hydrogen production, catalyst research stands out as one of the foremost areas of focus. In recent years, the preparation of electrocatalysts using ionic liquids (ILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) has attracted widespread attention. ILs and DESs possess unique physicochemical properties and are recognized as green media as well as functional materials. Cobalt-based catalysts have proven to be efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting. Incorporating ILs or DESs into the preparation of cobalt-based catalysts offers a remarkable advantage by allowing precise control over their structural design and composition. This control directly influences the adsorption properties of the catalyst's surface and the stability of reaction intermediates, thereby enabling enhanced control over reaction pathways and product selectivity. Consequently, the catalytic activity and stability of cobalt-based catalysts can be effectively improved. In the process of preparing cobalt-based catalysts, ILs and DESs can serve as solvents and templates. Owing to the good solubility of ILs and DESs, they can efficiently dissolve raw materials and provide a special nucleation and growth environment, obtaining catalysts with novel-structures. The main focus of this review is to provide a detailed introduction to metal cobalt and its oxide/hydroxide derivatives in the field of water splitting, with a particular emphasis on the research progress achieved through the utilization of IL and DES. The aim is to assist readers in designing and synthesizing novel and high-performance electrochemical catalysts.

In order to study the tensile properties of rock-concrete composite disc specimens with different roughness, the surface of the gray-white sand specimen was artificially grooved, and six different roughness were configured. The test results show that the roughness size and roughness mode jointly control the tensile strength of the rock-concrete interface. With the increase of roughness, the tensile strength of the sample changes from the initial decrease to the increase and then decrease, and the tensile strength reaches the highest when the roughness is f3. The variation trend of pre-peak energy accumulation and post-peak energy accumulation of the sample is opposite, and the dissipation energy is closely related to the crack propagation strain. The roughness and crack closure strain, crack peak strain, crack propagation strain and crack closure stress show a sinusoidal periodic variation. The crack propagation strain is closely related to the change of dissipation energy. The change trend of crack closure stress is basically consistent with the change trend of tensile strength. Therefore, in the actual project, grasping the period of roughness variation and selecting the construction position can make the rock-concrete interface stable and get twice the result with half the effort.
