RESUMEN

Appropriate capillary effects are beneficial for controlling the wet powder performance and agglomerate formation. As water content rises, the funicular regime supplants the pendular regime as the predominant state in wet granular media. The displacement of grains leading to the stretching of funicular liquid bridges until rupture is an interesting and common phenomenon. Utilizing Surface Evolver software (an energy minimization approach), this work develops an efficient and accurate numerical model to describe liquid interactions among three spherical grains. The effects of liquid volume, contact angle, grain size ratio, grain-pair gap, and separation distance on the capillary forces and rupture distances are investigated. Notably, we present a modified closed-form equation for predicting the rupture distance of funicular bridges between three grains, which reflects the coupled effects of the contact angle, grain size, and liquid volume on rupture distance. This present study provides insights for incorporating capillary effects into mechanical models relying on microassembly composed of several grains in bidisperse particulate systems. Additionally, the numerical findings confirm some findings regarding the splitting of funicular bridges.

RESUMEN

Tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) are probably carcinogenic disinfection byproducts eliciting health risk concerns. The determination and surveillance of TSNAs in water is still cumbersome due to the lack of advanced sample preparation methods. Herein, we prepared a solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coated with the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sheathed mesoporous silica tube (MST) composite material, and developed a highly efficient, selective, and sensitive method for the determination of five TSNAs in water. Benefiting from the TSNAs-specific recognition of MIP and the increased specific surface area derived from MST, the MIP@MST fiber exhibited excellent extraction performance for TSNAs, which was much superior to the commercially available SPME fibers. By coupling to high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS), the outstanding analytical merits such as low method detection limits (ranging 0.1-6.7 ng L-1) and good reproducibility (intra-fiber and inter-fiber relative standard deviations ranging 4.1 %-11.6 % and 3.5 %-12.2 %, respectively) were achieved with the consumption of 8 mL water sample and 100 µL methanol solvent in 50 min. The feasibility of the SPME-HPLC-MS/MS method was demonstrated in tap water and chloraminated source water, with relative recoveries for the five TSNAs ranging from 85.2 % to 108.5 %. In result, none of the TSNAs were found in the tap water samples, while 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) and 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-Butanol (NNAL) were detected in the chloraminated source water samples. The rapid and convenient SPME-HPLC-MS/MS method developed in this study offers a powerful tool for monitoring TSNAs in water.

RESUMEN

Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs), one of the largest groups of new psychoactive substances (NPSs), have emerged as a significant public health threat in different regions worldwide. Analyzing SCs in water samples is critical to estimate their consumption and control. However, due to their low background concentration and the coexistence of complex matrix, the selective and effective enrichment of SCs is still challenging. In this study, a series of fluorinated-squaramide-based covalent organic frameworks (COF: FSQ-2, FSQ-3, and FSQ-4) are synthesized, and the as-prepared FSQ-4 exhibits strong affinity to different SCs. The proper pore size (1.4 nm) and pre-located functional groups (hydrogen-bond donors, hydrogen-bond acceptors, and fluorophilic segments) work synergistically for efficient SCs capture. Remarkably, when coupled FSQ-4 with solid-phase microextraction (SPME), trace-level (part per trillion, 10-9 ) determination of 13 SCs can be easily achieved, representing one of the best results among NPS analyses, and the excellent extraction performance can be maintained under various interfering conditions.

RESUMEN

The powder process is dynamic at the microscale level. Due to the capillary effect, the viscous attraction of the liquid phase between particles alters the strength and stability of wet granular materials. In this paper, experiments on the rupture behavior of the funicular liquid bridge between three rigid spheres have been presented. The results show that the peak force and rupture distance of the funicular liquid bridges are affected by the size and relative position of the spheres, volume and viscosity of the liquid, and separation rate; the coalescence of the liquid bridges causes a decrease in peak force and an increase in rupture distance, and the rupture distance shows a nonmonotonic functional correlation with the separation rate. Finally, an empirical equation of the correlation between the rupture distance and liquid volume is proposed, whose rationality is verified by comparing it with the results of the existing models.

RESUMEN

Landscape ecological health (LEH) assessment of blue-green space is vital for the management and restoration of the urban environment. At present, existing LEH assessment research has mainly focused on the single measurement of landscape pattern or external ecological service function, ignoring the effect mechanism. Moreover, there is a lack of targeted assessment of urban blue-green space LEH. In this study, we constructed an urban blue-green space LEH assessment framework based on the integration of pattern, process, function and sustainability, and conducted an empirical analysis in Harbin, a megacity in Northeastern China. The results showed that the spatial changes in the four assessment units of landscape ecological pattern, process, function and sustainability were not coordinated in the study area. From 2011 to 2020, the overall condition of blue-green space LEH in the study area improved but still at an unhealthy level, and the spatial difference increased. Grassland, water and wetland suffered from the widespread degradation of LEH in the study area, and the LEH level improvement type had the largest area proportion, and the stabilization type had the smallest. Moreover, based on the spatial autocorrelation analysis, we clarified the LEH spatial correlation characteristics of the study area and proposed targeted optimization suggestions. Our assessment framework will extend the LEH assessment scope and methodology, and the research results can provide significant references for urban blue-green space protection and management.

RESUMEN

Owing to the ubiquitous occurrence and chemotoxicity of BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene), the development of stable and accurate analysis methods that can assess environment risks and can generate monitoring data rapidly is urgent. In this work, a new strategy was proposed for efficient detection of BTEX. By creatively utilizing thermal deposition method, a robust SPME fiber was fabricated, where the γCD-MOF acted as the adsorbent, while PDMS functionalized as the adhesive and protective coating. Benefiting from the protection of PDMS, the γCD-MOF fiber presented significantly better extraction performance and exhibited long-term structural stabilities in aqueous or methanol samples up to a week. The stable and improved properties of γCD-MOF demonstrated that the PDMS protected the MOF components from the adverse effects of solvent. The detection limits of PDMS modified γCD-MOF fiber for BTEX was as low as 0.13-0.29 ng L-1 that accompanied with wide linear range of 1-1000 ng L-1, which was significantly superior to commercial PDMS fiber and other MOF-based fibers. Besides, the feasibility of the proposed method was verified by the quantitative determination of BTEX in real water samples. This work presents an effective strategy for creating ultrasensitive and stable SPME fibers based on γCD-MOF for applications in aqueous samples or other poor solvent.

RESUMEN

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), as a major source that significantly increase the risk of developing lung cancer, severely jeopardize public health in modern society. The analysis of PAHs and their metabolites (hydroxylated PAHs, OH-PAHs) is important for biomonitoring and exposure assessment. However, due to the difference in their physico-chemical properties and matrix interference, realizing high-performance extraction of both PAHs and OH-PAHs is still a challenge. Herein, a nickel-doped hierarchical porous carbon (Ni/HPC) is synthesized by carbonizing the polystyrene (PS) infiltrated metal-organic frameworks (MOF-74(Ni)). The obtained Ni/HPC exhibits hierarchical pores and evenly distributed Ni atoms, providing efficient diffusion pathways and adsorption sites. The custom Ni/HPC-coated solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber shows superior enrichment capabilities for PAHs and their metabolites under various interfering conditions, verifying its practicability in real sample analysis. The proposed method provides a new strategy to synthesize carbon-based adsorbents that achieves matrix-resistant enrichment of PAHs and OH-PAHs, which simplifies the related sample preparation process for environmental analysis and clinical diagnosis.

RESUMEN

In this paper, imitation basalt compounds using red mud, fly ash or coal gangue as raw materials were designed and prepared with the help of thermodynamic calculations. Thermodynamic calculations were used to obtain the suitable chemical composition. Then, the imitation compounds were prepared and their phase/compositions were analyzed. Finally, their high-temperature melting performance and crystallization ability were evaluated. The results show that the characteristic temperature and crystallization ability of the imitation basalt compounds were similar to those of basalt. Moreover, the viscosity of red mud imitation basalt compound approached the viscosity of basalt with the increase in temperature. This work suggests that red mud, fly ash and coal gangue can be mixed with quartz and other source materials to produce imitation basalt fiber. Therefore, thermodynamic calculation is an effective method to design and prepare high-performance imitation basalt compounds.
