RESUMEN

Tavorite LiFeSO4F with high Li-ion conductivity has been considered a promising alternative to LiFePO4. However, its poor cycle stability and low electronic conductivity limit the practical application of Tavorite LiFeSO4F. In the present study, we employ a solvothermal method to produce magnesium-substitution LiMgxFe1-xSO4F (x = 0, 0.02, 0.04) cathode materials in which the Mg substitutes the Fe(2) sites. The first-principles calculations demonstrate that Mg-substitution could reduce the bandgap of LiFeSO4F and increase its electronic conductivity to 2.5 × 10-11 S cm-1. Meanwhile, CI-NEB and BV calculations reveal that the diffusion energy barrier of lithium along the (100) direction after Mg substitution is lower than the pristine sample, and the electrochemical inactive Mg2+ could improve the structure stability. The results show that the Mg-substituted LiFeSO4F exhibits enhanced cycle stability and rate performance compared with the pristine LiFeSO4F, suggesting that the use of electrochemically inactive ion substitution may be critical for the development of high-performance LiFeSO4F cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Assessing drivers' mental workload is crucial for reducing road accidents. This study examined drivers' mental workload in a simulated auditory-based dual-task driving scenario, with driving tasks as the main task, and auditory-based N-back tasks as the secondary task. A total of three levels of mental workload (i.e., low, medium, high) were manipulated by varying the difficulty levels of the secondary task (i.e., no presence of secondary task, 1-back, 2-back). Multimodal measures, including a set of subjective measures, physiological measures, and behavioral performance measures, were collected during the experiment. The results showed that an increase in task difficulty led to increased subjective ratings of mental workload and a decrease in task performance for the secondary N-back tasks. Significant differences were observed across the different levels of mental workload in multimodal physiological measures, such as delta waves in EEG signals, fixation distance in eye movement signals, time- and frequency-domain measures in ECG signals, and skin conductance in EDA signals. In addition, four driving performance measures related to vehicle velocity and the deviation of pedal input and vehicle position also showed sensitivity to the changes in drivers' mental workload. The findings from this study can contribute to a comprehensive understanding of effective measures for mental workload assessment in driving scenarios and to the development of smart driving systems for the accurate recognition of drivers' mental states.

Background: POLE is a critical biomarker for endometrial cancer (ECs) prognosis and therapeutic decision. However, the immune infiltration and immunotherapy-related gene expression in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of POLE-mutated ECs remain unresolved. Methods: The TCGA database was used to characterize the TME of POLE mutants, which primarily included immune cells and co-expression genes. We used immunohistochemistry (IHC) to determine immune cell abundance and PD-L1 expression in 104 EC tissues, including 11 POLE mutants and 93 wild-type. Results: The bioinformatic study found significant differences in gene expression of the chemokine family, immune-cell markers, and lysozyme in POLE mutants, along with immune response activation. In POLE-mutated ECs, the abundance of CD4+T, CD8+T, M1 macrophages, and dendritic cells increased considerably. Furthermore, POLE mutations may enhance immune cell recruitment or activation and lymphocyte homing in ECs. POLE mutants also had increased expression of immune-checkpoint suppressor genes such as PD-L1, CTLA-4, TIM-3, and others. The tumor mutation burden (TMB) was higher in ECs with POLE mutation. In the validation cohort, we discovered that POLE mutations were related to the immune infiltration abundance of CD8+, CD4+, and Foxp3+ cells and PD-L1 expression by IHC. The prognosis of TCGA-ECs showed that the survival time of the CD8, CD4, PD-L1, or Foxp3 over-expression subgroup of the POLE mutants was significantly prolonged compared to the down-regulation subgroup or the POLE wild-type. Conclusion: The infiltration abundance of CD8+ T, CD4+ T, Foxp3+ T cells, and the expression of PD-L1 harbor crucial value for the prognosis or individualized therapy of POLE-mutated ECs.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) combined with pulmonary surfactant (PS) in the treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS). METHODS: This study is a retrospective clinical study. Seventy-two NRDS neonates were selected as the subjects from November 2019 to November 2020, and divided into observation group (40 cases, HFOV treatment) and control group (32 cases, conventional mechanical ventilation treatment). All cases were treated with PS and comprehensive treatment. The therapeutic effect, arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2), arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), Percentage of inhaled oxygen concentration (FiO2), mean arterialpressure, oxygenation index (OI), and complications were compared in the 2 groups. RESULTS: The total effective rate of the observation group was 90.0%, significantly higher than that of the control group. After treatment, the observation group has higher PaO2 levels and lower levels of PaCO2, mean arterial pressure, FiO2, and OI than the control group. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the 2 groups. CONCLUSION: HFOV combined with PS has a significant effect on NRDS, which can improve the arterial blood gas index without increasing the incidence of complications.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a brain injury resulting in poor coordination and motor control deficits, which is one of the most common physical disabilities in children. CP brings a heavy burden on families and society and becomes a significant public health issue. In recent years, hydrotherapy, and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) as a physical therapy for CP is developing rapidly. When hydrotherapy and tDCS are used to treat separately, it has positive therapeutic effect in children with CP. The development of new therapies in combination with physical rehabilitation approaches is critical to optimize functional outcomes. tDCS has attracted interest in this context, because of significant functional improvements have been demonstrated in individuals with brain injuries after a short period of cerebral stimulation. Since the onset of this work, tDCS has been used in combination with constraint-induced therapy, virtual reality therapy to potentiate the treatment effect. Up to now, there are no studies on the effect of a combined application of hydrotherapy and tDCS in children with CP. We will conduct a 2-arm parallel clinical trial to investigate the effect of a combined application of tDCS and hydrotherapy. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This study is an outcome assessor and data analyst-blinded, randomized, controlled superiority trial during the period from October 2021 to December 2023. CP patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be allocated in a 1:1 ratio into the treatment group (hydrotherapy plus tDCS), or the control group (treatment as usual). All participants will receive 30 sessions of treatment over 10 weeks. The primary outcomes will be the difference in the Gross Motor Function Assessment and Pediatric Balance Scale during rest and activity. The secondary outcomes will be the difference in adverse effects between the control and treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS: This study aims to estimate the efficacy of a combined application of tDCS and hydrotherapy in patients with CP. Overexpression of Centromere Protein F (CENPF) is associated with tumorigenesis of many human malignant tumors. But the molecular mechanism and prognostic value of CENPF in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still unclear. In this essay, expression of CENPF in HCC tumors were evaluated in a series of databases, including GEO, TCGA, Oncomine, GEPIA, The Human Protein Atlas and Kaplan-Meier plotter. It was apparent that mRNA and protein expression levels of CENPF were significantly increased in patients with HCC and were manifestly associated with the tumor stage of HCC. Aberrant expressions of CENPF were significantly linked with worse overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in HCC patients. Then, immunohistochemistry of CENPF in human HCC samples was carried out to suggest that CENPF protein was over-expressed in HCC tissues, compared with paired adjacent non-cancerous samples. And small interfering RNAs of CENPF in the human HepG2 cells were further performed to reveal that down-regulation of CENPF significantly inhibited cell proliferation, cell migration, and cell invasion, but slightly promoted cell apoptosis in human HepG2 cells. Moreover, the gene-set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was conducted to probe the biology process and molecular signaling pathway of CENPF in HCC. The GSEA analysis pointed out that CENPF was principally enriched in cell cycle and closely related to E2F1 and CDK1 in the regulation of cell cycle, especially during G2/M transition of mitosis in HCC. Additionally, immune infiltration analysis by CIBERSORTx revealed that mutilpe immune cells, including Treg, etc., were significantly different in HCC samples with CENPFhigh, compared with CENPFlow. These results collectively demonstrated that CENPF might serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and novel therapeutic target for HCC. However, further research is needed to validate our findings and promote the clinical application of CENPF in HCC.

Bariatric surgery including duodenal-jejunal bypass surgery (DJB) improves insulin sensitivity and reduces obesity-associated inflammation. However, the underlying mechanism for such an improvement is still incompletely understood. Our objective was to investigate the role of the gut microbiota in DJB-associated improvement of hepatic steatosis in high fat diet (HFD)-fed rats. To study this, hepatic steatosis was induced in male adult Sprague-Dawley rats by feeding them with a 60% HFD. At 8 weeks after HFD feeding, the rats were subjected to either DJB or sham operation. HFD was resumed 1 week after the surgery for 3 more weeks. In additional groups of animals, feces were collected from HFD-DJB rats at 2 weeks after DJB. These feces were then transplanted to HFD-fed rats without DJB at 8 weeks after HFD feeding. Hepatic steatosis and fecal microbiota were analyzed at 4 weeks after surgery or fecal transplantation. Our results showed that DJB alleviated hepatic steatosis in HFD-fed rats. Fecal microbiota analysis showed that HFD-fed and standard diet-fed rats clustered differently. DJB induced substantial compositional changes in the gut microbiota. The fecal microbiota of HFD-fed rats received fecal transplant from DJB rats overlapped with that of HFD-DJB rats. Treatment of rats with HFD-induced liver lesions by fecal transplant from DJB-operated HFD-fed rats also attenuated hepatic steatosis. Thus, alterations in the gut microbiota after DJB surgery are sufficient to attenuate hepatic steatosis in HFD-fed rats. Targeting the gut microbiota could be a promising approach for preventing or treating human NAFLD.

The past decade has seen increasing popularity of large display-based freehand interaction. This study examined the effects of body posture, interaction distance and target size on freehand interaction with a large display. Participants performed pointing and dragging tasks by freehand interaction with a large display under sitting and standing postures and at different interaction distances. Targets in both small and large sizes were examined. Results showed that interaction distance yielded a significant effect on error rate, but the effect differed by task type. Little measurable difference was found in interaction performance, perceived usability and workload between sitting and standing postures. There were significant interaction effects between posture and interaction distance on perceived workload. Larger target size led to higher efficiency and accuracy in pointing tasks, but reduced accuracy in dragging tasks. This study provided implications that are likely to improve the design and deployment of large display-based freehand interaction techniques.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) is a highly prevalent cancer and one of the main causes of death among women worldwide. The miR-181 family has turned out to be associated with tumorigenesis in a variety of tumors by regulating the expression of tumor-related genes. However, the mechanisms and biological function of miR-181c-5p in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have not been well elucidated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: SiHa cell lines with specific gene overexpression vectors were constructed. Targetscan was used to predict the binding site of miR-181c-5p and GSKIP. MTT assay was used to detect the clone formation rate. Flow cytometry was used to detect the apoptosis rate and to separate the cell markers. The Transwell test was used to detect cell invasion. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect protein expression in tumor tissues. Western Blotting was used to detect the expression levels of related proteins. RESULTS: GSKIP was predicted to be the target gene of miR-181c-5p in cervical SCC. MiR-181c-5p overexpression suppressed SiHa cells proliferation and promoted apoptosis; the protein expressions of Ki67 and PCNA were decreased, but the expressions of Caspase-3 and Bax/Bcl-2 were increased. The overexpression of miR-181c-5p inhibited the stem-like properties of SiHa cells; the expressions of SOX2, OCT4 and CD44 were decreased. Furthermore, miR-181c-5p upregulation limited the invasion of SiHa cells; the expression of E-cadherin was higher, but the expressions of N-cadherin and Vimentin were lower. MiR-181c-5p overexpression inhibited tumorigenesis in cervical SCC tissues; the expressions of Ki67, Caspase-3, CD44 and Vimentin in vivo were consistent with those in vitro. CONCLUSION: Taken together, miR-181c-5p was able to mitigate the cancer cell characteristic and invasive properties of cervical SCC through targeting GSKIP gene.

A drug's physical characteristics, such as colour, could be factors influencing its therapeutic effects. It is not well understood whether people's expectations on drug effects and efficacy are affected by colour, especially among Chinese population. This study was conducted to examine people's expectations on drug effects and efficacy on the basis of drug colour, and to reveal possible gender differences in colour-related drug expectations. Participants (n = 224) were asked to classify seven single-coloured and six two-coloured capsules into one of four categories of drug effects, and to indicate the strength of drug efficacy. It is found that all the coloured capsules yielded non-chance distributions in classifications of drug effects, with six single-coloured and four two-coloured capsules associated with specific drug effects. Colour also conveyed differential strengths of drug efficacy in general and in relation to specific drug effects. There were gender differences in drug expectations for some colours and colour combinations. Practitioner Summary: Drug colour was found to have impacts on perceived drug effects and efficacy. The findings from the present study can be used by ergonomics practitioners to design appropriate drug colours in support of drug differentiation, therapeutic effects and medication adherence.

OBJECTIVE: To reveal the effects of consumer-oriented health information technologies (CHITs) on patient outcomes in diabetes management over time through systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: We searched 5 electronic databases (from database inception to July 2016) for studies that reported on randomized controlled trials examining the effects of CHITs on glycemic control and other patient outcomes in diabetes management. Data were analyzed using either meta-analysis or a narrative synthesis approach. RESULTS: Eighty randomized controlled trial studies, representing 87 individual trials, were identified and included for analysis. Overall, the meta-analysis showed that the use of CHITs resulted in significant improvement in glycemic control compared to usual care (standardized mean difference = -0.31%, 95% confidence interval -0.38 to -0.23, P < .001) in patients with diabetes. Specifically, improvement in glycemic control was significant at intervention durations of 3, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 30, and 60 months, while no significant differences were found at other time points reported. The narrative synthesis provided mixed effects of CHITs on other clinical, psychosocial, behavioral, and knowledge outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: The use of CHITs appears to be more effective than usual care in improving glycemic control for patients with diabetes. However, their effectiveness did not remain consistent over time and in other patient outcomes. Further efforts are required to examine long-term effects of CHITs and to explore factors that can moderate the effects over time.

The dilemma of poly(ethylene glycol) surface modification (PEGylation) inspired us to develop an intracellularly sheddable PEG palisade for synthetic delivery systems. Here, we attempted to conjugate PEG to polyethylenimine (PEI) through tandem linkages of disulfide-bridge susceptible to cytoplasmic reduction and an azobenzene/cyclodextrin inclusion complex responsive to external photoirradiation. The subsequent investigations revealed that facile PEG detachment could be achieved in endosomes upon photoirradiation, consequently engendering exposure of membrane-disruptive PEI for facilitated endosome escape. The liberated formulation in the cytosol was further subjected to complete PEG detachment relying on disulfide cleavage in the reductive cytosol, thus accelerating dissociation of electrostatically assembled PEI/DNA polyplex to release DNA by means of polyion exchange reaction with intracellularly charged species, ultimately contributing to efficient gene expression.

Tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivatives characterized with distinct aggregation-induced-emission, attempted to aggregate with doxorubicin (Dox) to formulate the interior compartment of polymeric nanoparticulate, served as fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) donor to promote emission of acceptor Dox. Accordingly, this FRET formulation allowed identification of Dox in complexed form by detecting FRET. Important insight into the Dox releasing can be subsequently explored by extracting complexed Dox (FRET) from the overall Dox via direct single-photon excitation of Dox. Of note, functional catiomers were used to complex with FRET partners for a template formulation, which was verified to induce pH-responsive release in the targeted subcellular compartment. Hence, this well-defined multifunctional system entitles in situ observation of the drug releasing profile and insight on drug delivery journey from the tip of injection vein to the subcellular organelle of the targeted cells.

We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to January 2014 which evaluated the effects of electronic reminders on patient adherence to medication in chronic disease care. A random-effects model was used to pool the outcome data. Subgroup analyses were performed to examine a set of moderators. Data from 20 studies, representing 22 RCTs, were synthesized. Thirteen trials utilized short message service (SMS) reminders, three used pager reminders and six employed electronic alarm device-triggered reminders. The meta-analysis showed that the use of electronic reminders was associated with a significant, yet small, improvement in patient adherence to medication (pooled Cohen's d=0.29, 95% confidence interval 0.18, 0.41). The effect was sensitive to sample size, type of disease and intervention duration. The frequency and type of electronic reminders appeared to have no moderating effect on medication adherence. The use of electronic reminders seems to be a simple and potentially effective way of improving patient adherence to chronic medication. Future research should concern the optimum strategies for the design and implementation of electronic reminders, with which the effectiveness of the reminders is likely to be augmented.

OBJECTIVE: To find out the occurrence of cesarean section (CS) and to probe the factors associated with CS. METHODS: Women with CS as "case group" and women without CS as "control group" were chosen in a case-control study. RESULTS: Among 14 071 childbirth women, 6 421 had CS (case group) with the occurrence rate of 45.6% and 7 650 (54.4%) had normal delivery (control group). In comparison with the control group, the CS group had following several higher rates [with significant differences between case group and control group (P < 0.01)]: well-educated (78.9% vs 69.5%), white collar jobs (38.0% vs 32.3%), urban residents (79.1% vs 70.6%), high monthly income (>/= 500 Yuan) (81.0% vs 70.6%), of older age (>/= 25 years) (73.3% vs 63.0%), heavier baby weight (> 4 000 gram) (8.3% vs 2.9%), male babies (53.9% vs 51.4%), BMI of mother (> 24) (8.8% vs 4.8%), cephalopelvic disproportion (21.1% vs 0.9%), intrauterine asphysia (20.3% vs 6.7%), abnormality of force of labor (4.2% vs 2.7%), prolonged labor (2.9% vs 1.0%) and placenta previa (1.4% vs 0.4%). Our study also indicated that the higher the educational level was, the higher the rate of CS appeared; and the older the pregnant women was, the higher the rate of CS was. In CS group, over 70% primipara were over 24 years, and over 20% primipara had cephalopelvic disproportion and over 20% had intrauterine asphysia in CS group. CONCLUSIONS: At present, the occurrence rate of cesarean section was rather high (45.6%) in China. The high rate of CS was more likely to associate not only with abnormal physiological/medical factors (eg. cephalopelvic disproportion, intrauterine asphysia, abnormality of force of labor, and prolonged labour, etc.), but also with some demographic factors as education, occupation, income and age, etc. It is necessary to take measures to reduce the unnecessary CS in China.
