RESUMEN
In this study, the effects of different salinity gradients and addition of compatible solutes on anaerobic treated effluent water qualities, sludge characteristics and microbial communities were investigated. The increase in salinity resulted in a decrease in particle size of the granular sludge, which was concentrated in the range of 0.5-1.0 mm. The content of EPS (extracellular polymeric substances) in the granular sludge gradually increased with increasing salinity and the addition of betaine (a typical compatible solute). Meanwhile, the microbial community structure was significantly affected by salinity, with high salinity reducing the diversity of bacteria. At higher salinity, Patescibacteria and Proteobacteria gradually became the dominant phylum, with relative abundance increasing to 13.53% and 12.16% at 20 g/L salinity. Desulfobacterota and its subordinate Desulfovibrio, which secrete EPS in large quantities, dominated significantly after betaine addition.Their relative abundance reached 13.65% and 7.86% at phylum level and genus level. The effect of these changes on the treated effluent was shown as the average chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate decreased from 82.10% to 79.71%, 78.01%, 68.51% and 64.55% when the salinity gradually increased from 2 g/L to 6, 10, 16 and 20 g/L. At the salinity of 20 g/L, average COD removal increased to 71.65% by the addition of 2 mmol/L betaine. The gradient elevated salinity and the exogenous addition of betaine played an important role in achieving stability of the anaerobic system in a highly saline environment, which provided a feasible strategy for anaerobic treatment of organic saline wastewater.

Size-fractionated particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM>2.5) was collected at a traffic site in Kanazawa, Japan in a seasonal sampling work in 2020. Nine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (4- to 6-ring PAHs) were determined in fine and coarse particles. The gas/particle partitioning coefficients (Kp) of the PAHs were calculated from the supercooled liquid vapour pressure and octanol-air partitioning coefficient based on the relationships obtained in previous traffic pollution-related studies. Gaseous PAHs were estimated by Kp and the concentrations of PM and particulate PAHs. The concentrations of total PAHs were 32.5, 320.1 and 5646.2 pg/m3 in the PM>2.5, PM2.5 and gas phases, respectively. Significant seasonal trends in PAHs were observed (particle phase: lowest in summer, gas phase: lowest in spring, particle and gas phase: lowest in spring). Compared to 2019, the total PAH concentrations (in particles) decreased in 2020, especially in spring and summer, which might be due to reduced traffic trips during the COVID-19 outbreak. The incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) calculated from the toxic equivalent concentrations relative to benzo[a]pyrene (BaPeq) was lower than the acceptable limit issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency, indicating a low cancer risk in long-term exposure to current PAH levels. It is notable that gaseous PAHs considerably contributed to BaPeq and ILCR (over 50%), which highlighted the significance of gaseous PAH monitoring for public health protection. This low-cost estimation method for gaseous PAHs can be expected to reliably and conveniently obtain PAH concentrations as a surrogate for traditional sampling in the future work.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Shuangdan Jiedu Decoction (SJD) is a formula composed of six Chinese herbs with heat-removing and detoxifying, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects, which is clinically used in the therapy of various inflammatory diseases of the lungs including COVID-19, but the therapeutic material basis of its action as well as its molecular mechanism are still unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: The study attempted to determine the therapeutic effect of SJD on LPS-induced acute lung injury (ALI), as well as to investigate its mechanism of action and assess its therapeutic potential for the cure of inflammation-related diseases in the clinical setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We established an ALI model by tracheal drip LPS, and after the administration of SJD, we collected the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung tissues of mice and examined the expression of inflammatory factors in them. In addition, we evaluated the effects of SJD on the cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase -stimulator of interferon genes (cGAS-STING) and inflammasome by immunoblotting and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). RESULTS: We demonstrated that SJD was effective in alleviating LPS-induced ALI by suppressing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the BALF, improving the level of lung histopathology and the number of neutrophils, as well as decreasing the inflammatory factor-associated gene expression. Importantly, we found that SJD could inhibit multiple stimulus-driven activation of cGAS-STING and inflammasome. Further studies showed that the Chinese herbal medicines in SJD had no influence on the cGAS-STING pathway and inflammasome alone at the formulated dose. By increasing the concentration of these herbs, we observed inhibitory effects on the cGAS-STING pathway and inflammasome, and the effect exerted was maximal when the six herbs were combined, indicating that the synergistic effects among these herbs plays a crucial role in the anti-inflammatory effects of SJD. CONCLUSIONS: Our research demonstrated that SJD has a favorable protective effect against ALI, and its mechanism of effect may be associated with the synergistic effect exerted between six Chinese medicines to inhibit the cGAS-STING and inflammasome abnormal activation. These results are favorable for the wide application of SJD in the clinic as well as for the development of drugs for ALI from herbal formulas.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease has been linked to negative outcomes in patients with end-stage liver disease following liver transplantation. However, the influence of immunosuppressive regimens on it has not been explored. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using the preoperative and postoperative data from patients with end-stage liver disease. The study compared three different groups: tacrolimus-based group, sirolimus-based group, and combined tacrolimus- and sirolimus-based regimens. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to identify risk factors for metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. Results: A total of 171 patients participated in the study, consisting of 127 males and 44 females, with a mean age of 49.6 years. The prevalence of posttransplant metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease was 29.23%. Among the three groups, there were 111 liver transplant recipients in the tacrolimus-based group, 28 in the sirolimus-based group, and 32 in the combination group. A statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (P < 0.05), whereas the other preoperative and postoperative parameters showed no significant differences. Multivariate analysis revealed that a low-calorie diet (95% confidence intervals: 0.15-0.90, P = 0.021) and a combination of tacrolimus- and sirolimus-based immunosuppressive regimen (95% confidence intervals: 1.01-2.77, P = 0.046) were associated with lower risk of posttransplant metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. Conclusions: Our study indicates that implementing a low-calorie diet and utilizing a combination of tacrolimus- and sirolimus-based immunosuppressive regimen can effectively lower the risk of posttransplant metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease following liver transplantation.
RESUMEN
Two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are ideal electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage devices due to their unique structures and properties, and the accessibility and utilization efficiency of the redox-active sites within COFs are critical determinants of their pseudocapacitive performance. Via introducing meticulously designed phenolic hydroxyl (Ar-OH) groups with hydrogen-bond forming ability onto the imine COF skeletons, DHBD-Sb-COF exhibited improved hydrophilicity and crystallinity than the parent BD-Sb-COF, the redox-active sites (SbPh3 moieties) in COF electrodes could thus be highly accessed by aqueous electrolyte with a high active-site utilization of 93%. DHBD-Sb-COF//AC provided an excellent supercapacitive performance with an energy density of 78 Wh Kg-1 at the power density of 2553 W Kg-1 and super cycling stability, exceeding most of the previously reported pristine COF electrode-based supercapacitors. The "two-in-one" strategy of introducing hydroxyl groups onto imine COF skeletons to enhance both hydrophilicity and crystallinity provides a new avenue to improve the electrochemical performance of COF-based electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors.
RESUMEN
Gastric cancer has become a great challenge to human health in the world. We studied the expression and role of the circular RNA 0001438 (circ_0001438) with the aim of finding a biomarker to assess the prognosis of gastric cancer. Through a polymerase chain reaction, circ_0001438 expression in gastric cancer was detected. Chi-square test, multi-factor Cox regression, and Kaplan-Meier analyses were used to determine the association between circ_0001438 and the patients' clinical condition and prognosis. Using the luciferase reporter gene system, the interaction between circ_0001438 and miR-1290 was analyzed, and the regulatory impact of circ_0001438/miR-1290 on the activity of gastric cancer cells was examined flowing the Transwell assay and CCK8 assay. In gastric cancer tissues and cells, circ_0001438 expression was downregulated, and miR-1290 expression was upregulated and the two were negatively correlated. miR-1290 inhibitors were transfected and significantly increased the activity of circ_0001438 luciferase, while miR-1290 mimics decreased the activity. Overexpression of circ_0001438 decreased miR-1290 expression and inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer cells, which was reversed when miR-1290 mimics were transfected. Additionally, there was a correlation between circ_0001438 expression and lymph node metastases, tumor size, and TNM stage of gastric cancer. Low circ_0001438 expression predicts poor prognosis of gastric cancer patients. circ_0001438 is a biomarker for tumor development and clinical prognosis in gastric cancer. It works by downregulating miR-1290 to control the activity of gastric cancer cells.

OBJECTIVE: Remimazolam, a novel benzodiazepine, is widely used as an anesthetic in endoscopic procedures; however, its effects on cognitive function remain unclear, limiting its broader application in general anaesthesia. Neuroinflammation is a well-established key factor in the etiology and progression of cognitive dysfunction, including conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, postoperative delirium, and postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that remimazolam exerts anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, and clinical reports indicate a reduced incidence of postoperative delirium in patients treated with remimazolam. Nevertheless, whether remimazolam improves cognitive function through its anti-inflammatory properties remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of remimazolam and its underlying mechanism in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced model of neuroinflammation, neuronal injury, and cognitive dysfunction METHODS: C57BL/6â¯J male mice were administered LPS intraperitoneally to establish a model of neuroinflammation-induced cognitive impairment. A subset of mice received remimazolam via intraperitoneal injection 30â¯minutes prior to LPS administration. Cognitive performance was evaluated using behavioural tests, including the Morris Water Maze (MWM), Novel Object Recognition (NOR) test, and Open Field Test (OFT). Hippocampal tissues were analyzed by haematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining to assess structural changes. Inflammatory markers, including Interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1ß, and tumor necrosis factor-α, were quantified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and real-time quantitative PCR. Immunofluorescence was used to detect translocator protein (TSPO) and markers of microglia activation (IBA-1, CD16/32, and CD206). RESULTS: (1) Remimazolam reversed LPS-induced cognitive deficits, as evidenced by shorter spatial exploration latency and increased platform crossings in the MWM, and an elevated recognition index in the NOR test. (2) Remimazolam improved hippocampal morphology, reducing LPS-induced neuronal damage. (3) Remimazolam significantly decreased levels of hippocampal inflammatory cytokines, inhibited microglial activation, promoted M2-type microglia polarization, and increased TSPO expression. CONCLUSION: Remimazolam demonstrated neuroprotective and anti-neuroinflammatory effects in a mouse model of LPS-induced cognitive impairment. These effects are likely mediated through the regulation of TSPO, which inhibits microglial activation and promotes the polarization of microglia from the pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype to the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype.

The self-assembling morphologies of proteins, nucleic acids, and peptides are well correlated with their functioning in biological systems. In spite of extensive studies for the morphologies regulating, the directional control of the assembly morphology structure for the peptides still remains challenging. Here, the directional structure control of a bola-like peptide Ac-KIIF-CONH2 (KIIF) was realized by introducing different amount of acetonitrile to the system. The morphologies were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), and the secondary structure was evaluated by circular dichroism (CD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results demonstrated that the introducing of different amount of acetonitrile has significantly tuned the hydrophobic interactions amongst the side chains, thus affecting the self-assembling morphologies. As acetonitrile content increased, the assemblies changed from nanotubes to helical/twisted ribbons and then to thin fibrils, with a steady decrease in the width. In contrast, the assemblies changed from thin fibrils to helical/twisted ribbons, and then to matured nanotubes, exhibiting a steady increase in the width with peptide concentration increasing. Complementary molecular dynamics (MD) simulations demonstrated the important role of acetonitrile in controlling the hydrophobic interactions, providing microscopic evidence for the structure transition process. We believe such observations provide important insights into the design and fabrication of functional materials with controlled shape and size.

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation technology has important application value in treating emerging contaminant (ECs), but it still faces challenges in achieving efficient electron transfer and metal valence cycling. In this study, the interfacial electric field characteristics of FeNC catalysts were adjusted by introducing NC defects to affect the electron transfer process, thereby enhancing the catalytic performance of PMS. It is found that in the FeNC structure, the shift of the charge generates an interfacial electric field, which can promote the directional transfer of electrons. Through quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis, it was confirmed that the defect played a decisive role in regulating the interfacial electric field and improving the catalytic reaction efficiency. The interfacial electric field-mediated superexchange interaction realizes the electron donor effect of organic pollutants and the effective electron transfer between the Fe site, accelerates the electron cycling of the Fe site, and realizes the rapid and stable catalysis of PMS. The increase of the occupancy state distribution of d orbitals near the Fermi level provides favorable conditions for electron transitions and catalytic activation of PMS. ECs can be converted into environmentally friendly, non-toxic and harmless substances through. This defect-controlled interface electric field strategy realizes rapid electron directional transfer, which provides a new solution for improving the catalytic efficiency of PMS and the safe treatment of ECs in water.
RESUMEN
Solar-light-driven reduction of CO2 into renewable fuels has great potential in the production of sustainable energy, addressing the energy crisis and environmental problems simultaneously. However, it is a significant challenge to achieve high selectivity for the conversion of CO2 into CH4, which is a type of fuel with a high calorific value. Herein, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were integrated with an oxygen vacancy modified nickel-based metal organic frameworks (NiMOFs) to form the CQDs-X/NiMOFV series, which exhibited superior performance for CO2 photoreduction into CH4 compared with pure NiMOFs in the presence of hole scavengers under visible light irradiation. The highest yielding rate of CH4 (1 mmol g-1 h-1) and selectivity (97.58 %) were obtained using a CQDs-25/NiMOFV catalyst. Most importantly, in diluted CO2 atmosphere, the yield of CH4 was almost unchanged and the selectivity of CH4 over CQDs-25/NiMOFV was higher than that in pure CO2. The superior performance of CQDs-25/NiMOFV may be attributed to the following two factors: (i) both CQDs and oxygen vacancies facilitate the transmission of electrons to promote the eight-electron reaction producing CH4, and (ii) oxygen vacancies can act as the electron trap to capture the photogenerated electrons to react with adsorbed CO2 on Ni2+. This study offers a valuable strategy for designing efficient photocatalysts to convert CO2 into CH4 with superior selectivity.

Background: Previous research has shown that combining tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) with immunotherapy results in synergistic clinical efficacy. Cadonilimab, the first approved bi-specific antibody targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4, was studied to evaluate its efficacy and safety in combination with Lenvatinib as a first-line treatment for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 29 uHCC patients diagnosed at Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, between July 7, 2022, and March 3, 2023. Patients received Cadonilimab (10 mg/kg, IV, every 3 weeks) combined with Lenvatinib (8 mg, orally, daily). The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR), with secondary endpoints including disease control rate (DCR), median progression-free survival (mPFS), median overall survival (mOS), median time to progression (mTTP), and safety. Results: By April 2023, 29 patients had been enrolled in the study. The ORR was 37.9 %, DCR was 82.8 %, mPFS was 8.1 months, mTTP was 8.2 months, and mOS was not reached. A total of 93.1 % of patients experienced at least one treatment-related adverse event (TRAE). The most common adverse events were weight loss (51.7 %), increased aspartate aminotransferase (48.3 %), leukocytopenia (48.3 %), and neutropenia (48.3 %). TRAEs of grade 3 or higher occurred in 51.7 % of patients, with no grade 4 TRAEs observed. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the efficacy and safety of this combination, potentially improving outcomes as a first-line therapy, and offering a novel therapeutic approach for advanced HCC.
RESUMEN
The viral metagenomics approach is an effective technique for investigating and analysing both existing and emerging viruses in humans and diverse animal samples. The ruddy shelduck, a nationally protected secondary key species of wild animals, has become the predominant species among overwintering waterbirds in Qinghai Lake. Viruses carried by ruddy shelducks can potentially infect humans or other animals; however, limited research on the faecal virome of ruddy shelducks is currently available. In the present study, faecal samples of ruddy shelducks collected from Saga County, Shigatse City, Tibet, China, were subjected to viral metagenomic analysis. The predominant viral families identified in ruddy shelduck samples were Picornaviridae, Parvoviridae, Microviridae, Vilyaviridae, Astroviridae, and Caliciviridae. Among these, two picornavirus genomes have been identified as new strains of the genus Megrivirus in the family Parvoviridae. In addition, viruses that infect parasites and bacteria have been identified and characterised. The present study enhances our comprehension of the composition of the viral community in ruddy shelducks faeces and highlights the dynamic nature of viral evolution and the significance of continuous monitoring to assess potential risks to wildlife and public health.
RESUMEN
Background: Lung cancer causes significant mortality, with invasion and metastasis being the main features that cause most cancer deaths. Lymph node metastasis is the primary metastatic route in non-small cell carcinoma (NSCLC) and influences the staging and prognosis of NSCLC. Cumulative studies have reported that Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) is involved in the progression of various cancers. However, few studies have discussed the function of CEACAM1 in lymphangiogenesis in NSCLC. Here, we examined how CEACAM1 influences lymphangiogenesis in NSCLC. Methods: A total of 30 primary squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) patients diagnosed with LN metastasis were prospectively selected. LUSC tumor tissues, para-cancerous tissues, and positive lymph node tissues were harvested. The expression and subcellular location of CEACAM1, CD31, and LVYE1 in clinical samples were detected by immunohistochemistry. Next, the CEACAM1 and hsa-miR-423-5p expressions were detected by qPCR. The protein expression of lymphangiogenesis-associated proteins and critical cytokines of the NF-κB pathway in HDLECs was detected by Western blot. A tube formation assay was performed to detect the lymphangiogenesis in different groups. The interaction between CEACAM1 and hsa-miR-423-5p was verified using a dual luciferase assay. Results: CEACAM1 was found to be a potential gene associated with lung cancer prognosis. It was positively correlated with angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Then, we detected the function of CEACAM1 in lymphangiogenesis and found that CEACAM1 promoted lymphangiogenesis. hsa-miR-423-5p overexpression inhibited lymphangiogenesis via targeting CEACAM1. Finally, we observed that CEACAM1 can activate the NF-κB pathway and, therefore, promote lymphangiogenesis. Conclusion: We found that CEACAM1 enhanced lymphangiogenesis in NSCLC via NF-kB activation and was repressed by miR-423-5p. This suggests the value of CEACAM1 as a new therapeutic marker in NSCLC.
RESUMEN
During the utilization, blending, transportation, and storage, a significant amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released from inks, posing risks to both human health and the ecological environment. This study sought to identify the types and structures of VOCs released from four types of solvent-based inks (referred to as CAB, PVB, AKR, and Rs inks) in high-temperature settings and to assess the bioaccumulation factors, developmental toxicity, and acute toxicity of these released VOCs. The findings revealed that all tested inks released substantial amounts of VOCs in high-temperature environments. CAB and PVB inks released fewer types of VOCs with relatively smaller molecular weights, primarily with carboxylic acid groups and hydroxyl groups, while AKR and Rs inks released more types of VOCs with larger molecular weights, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Toxicity analysis indicated that although the primary VOCs released from CAB and PVB ink displayed some developmental toxicity, their bioaccumulation factors were below 100. The principal VOCs from AKR ink did not exhibit developmental toxicity. Conversely, the predominant VOCs from Rs ink not only demonstrated developmental toxicity but also had bioaccumulation factors exceeding 100. Additionally, the VOCs released from CAB, PVB, and AKR inks exhibited stronger acute toxicity to luminescent bacteria, while those from Rs ink showed greater acute toxicity to fish. These results offer a scientific foundation for the safe usage of inks and environmental conservation.

RESUMEN
Objective: The objective of our study was to evaluate whether intermittent theta burst stimulation(iTBS) applied to the regions with the strongest cortico-hippocampal connectivity within the lateral parietal cortical (LPC) or dorsolateral prefrontal cortical (DLPFC) areas in individuals with schizophrenia could enhance associative memory. Methods: We randomized 96 participants with schizophrenia to receive either active iTBS applied to the right DLPFC, left LPC or sham iTBS for 20 days. Clinical and cognitive assessments were performed at baseline and at the end of treatment. The primary outcome was change in associative memory. The secondary outcome was change in other cognitive functions and psychiatric symptoms. Results: In comparison to the sham group, iTBS targeting the right DLPFC or left LPC in schizophrenia did not yield significant improvements in auditory-auditory associative memory (F=1.27, p=0.294), auditory-visual associative memory (F=0.49, p=0.617), or visual-visual associative memory (F=1.094, p=0.347). Furthermore, after adjusting for variables such as education, disease duration, and negative symptoms, no significant changes were observed in any of these three memory domains. Conclusion: Although our study suggests that iTBS applied to the cortical-hippocampal did not lead to a significant change in associative memory. However, further investigation combining hippocampal-targeted iTBS with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is warranted to elucidate the regulatory effects of iTBS on hippocampal function. Trial Registration: clinicaltrials.gov NCT03608462.

Objective: To investigate the effect of periodic nursing interventions on improving compliance behavior and health status in long-term hemodialysis patients. Method: This was retrospective study. A total of 88 patients on long-term hemodialysis admitted to Qinhuangdao Haigang Hospital from January 2022 to April 2023 were randomly divided into the control group and the intervention group, who received routine hemodialysis nursing and periodic nursing interventions, respectively. Afterward, compliance behavior and health status were compared between the two groups, along with a comprehensive assessment of the health status using renal function indexes, complication rates, and anxiety and depression scores. Result: Before nursing, no significant difference was observed in each index between the two groups (p > 0.05). After 16 months of nursing, the score of compliance behavior in the intervention group (88.68 ± 6.27) was significantly higher than that in the control group (70.91 ± 7.48) (p< 0.05), with the renal function indexes of BUN and SCr lower than those in the control group (p< 0.05). Meanwhile, the intervention group saw higher SAS and SDS scores than the control group (p< 0.05). Conclusion: Periodic nursing interventions may effectively improve the compliance behavior and health status of patients, enhance the efficacy of hemodialysis treatment, and improve the quality of life of patients.
RESUMEN
Background: Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) often exhibit characteristic clinical manifestations, particularly neuropsychiatric symptoms. Previous studies have shown that white matter hyperintensity (WMH) is strongly associated with AD progression, as well as neuropsychiatric symptoms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical and neuropsychological characteristics of AD patients with WMH. Methods: This retrospective study involved 104 18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission computed tomography (18FDG-PET-CT)-defined AD patients treated at Tianjin Huanhu Hospital from January 2010 to December 2022. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provided semi-quantitative data on brain structure and WMH. Collect and analyze patient clinical data. Neuropsychological assessments were used to evaluate cognitive function and psychobehavioral traits. Results: Among the 104 patients, 66 were in the WMH group (63.5%) and 38 in the non-white matter hyperintensity (non-WMH) group (36.5%). There were no significant differences in gender, age, age of onset, education, BMI, smoking, drinking, diabetes, coronary heart disease, dementia family history, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) between the two groups. The WMH group showed higher rates of hypertension, homocysteine (Hcy) levels, NPI, and CDR scores as compared to the non-WMH group (p < 0.05). MMSE and MoCA scores were significantly lower in the WMH group (p < 0.05). In the MMSE subitem analysis, patients in the WMH group showed a decrease in attention, recall, and language scores. In the MOCA subitem analysis, WMH patients had lower scores in executive function, naming, attention, language, abstraction, and orientation (p < 0.05). Furthermore, subgroup analysis of NPI showed a higher incidence of delusions, depression, and apathy in the WMH group (p < 0.05). According to the hierarchical analysis of mild, moderate and severe dementia groups, the hypertension, leukoencephalopathy, Hcy level, Fazekas total score, PWMH and DWMH scores in the severe dementia group were significantly higher than those in the mild and moderate dementia groups (p < 0.05). As the disease progresses, more and more patients show increased white matter hyperintensity. Conclusion: White matter lesions are closely correlated with cognitive decline and psychobehavioral symptoms in AD patients, and may be used as an indicator of disease progression. Priority should be given to early screening and prevention of WMH-related risk factors.
