RESUMEN
Background: The relationship between mortality and seizures after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) has not yet been understood until now. A meta-analysis was performed to assess the effect of post-ICH seizures on mortality among patients with ICH. Methods: PubMed and Embase were searched from the establishment of the databases to December 2021 to identify literature that evaluated the relationship between post-ICH seizures and mortality in ICH. Crude odds ratios and adjusted odds ratios with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were pooled using a random-effects model. Results: Thirteen studies involving 245,908 participants were eventually included for analysis. The pooled estimate suggested that post-ICH seizures were not associated with significantly increased mortality in patients with ICH (crude odds ratios 1.35, 95% CI: 0.91-2; adjusted adds ratios 1.22, 95% CI: 0.78-1.88). However, the relationship was not consistent in subgroup analysis or robust in a sensitivity analysis. Conclusions: This meta-analysis proved that post-ICH seizures were not associated with significantly increased mortality in patients with ICH. However, this result could be influenced by confounding factors, so more high-quality research is needed.

ABSTRACT: Studies on the relationship between hospital annualized case volume and in-hospital mortality in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) have shown conflicting results. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to further examine this relationship. The authors searched the PubMed and Embase databases from inception through July 2020 to identify studies that assessed the relationship between hospital annualized SAH case volume and in-hospital SAH mortality. Studies that reported in-hospital mortality in SAH patients and an adjusted odds ratio (OR) comparing mortality between low-volume and high-volume hospitals or provided core data to calculate an adjusted OR were eligible for inclusion. No language or human subject restrictions were imposed.Five retrospective cohort studies with 46,186 patients were included for analysis. The pooled estimate revealed an inverse relationship between annualized case volume and in-hospital mortality (OR, 0.53; 95% confidence interval, 0.42-0.68, Pâ<â.0001). This relationship was consistent in almost all subgroup analyses and was robust in sensitivity analyses. This meta-analysis confirms an inverse relationship between hospital annualized SAH case volume and in-hospital SAH mortality. Higher annualized case volume was associated with lower in-hospital mortality.

Allicin is one of the main bioactive substances in garlic, with antibacterial, hypolipidemic and other pharmacological effects. In this study, apoptosis-related indicators were detected to explore the molecular mechanism of allicin on KG-1 cell proliferation inhibition. The apoptosis rate of KG-1 cells induced by allicin was detected by flow cytometry. The effect of allicin on the expressions of Bax, Bcl-2, survivin and ERK mRNA in KG-1 cells was detected by RT-qPCR. Western blot was used to detect the expressions of caspase 3, cleaved caspase 3, ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2 and survivin protein in KG-1 cells. According to the findings, compared with the control group, allicin could significantly inhibit the proliferation activity of KG-1 cells in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner. Flow cytometry showed that allicin could induce the apoptosis of KG-1 cells, which was mainly late apoptosis. The results of RT-qPCR showed that the expressions of Bax mRNA, Bcl-2, survivin and ERK mRNA in KG-1 cells increased after treatment with allicin. The results of Western-blot showed that after KG-1 cells were treated with allicin, the expressions of caspase 3 and its active form cleaved caspase 3 increased, the expressions of survivin, ERK1/2 and its active form p-ERK1/2 were decreased, of which p-ERK1/2 was down-regulated in a dose-dependent manner. The above results suggest that allicin inhibited the proliferation of KG-1 cells primarily by inducing late apoptosis; the execution of apoptosis involved cleaved caspase 3; the induction of apoptosis involved the protein expression, the decrease of ERK1/2andexpression of survivin and the dose-dependent decrease of p-ERK1/2; the mRNA expression involved the increase of Bax, and the down-regulation of survivin, Bcl-2 and ERK1/2.

Marine ranching is a new sustainable production method, which plays an important role in the transformation of China's marine economy. In this paper, Haizhou Bay marine ranching was divided into 3 areas according to the intensity and delivery time of the submarine structures. Five geochemical indicators of temperature (T), pH, oxidation-reduction potential (Eh), grain size (D[3,2]) and total organic carbon (TOC) were determined on-site. A modified European Community Bureau of Reference(BCR)sequential extraction procedure was applied to determine the chemical speciation of different heavy metals (i.e. Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb, and Cd). The results showed a horizontal distribution of the Eh was influenced by the submarine structures. The TOC content ranged from 11.7 to 13.5 g·kg-1, which had a significant negative correlation with pH. Pb and Cd mainly present in the secondary phase of iron manganese oxide forms (F2), which were controlled by the Eh, however, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Cr were mainly present in the primary phase. A correlation and cluster analysis indicated that the Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn present in sediments were from natural sources, while the Cd and Pb content obviously came from anthropogenic metal sources. The exchangeable and carbonate fractions (F1) of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd were significantly correlated with TOC. The residuals (F4) of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd were significantly correlated with the grain size of sediments as well as the iron-manganese oxide forms (F2) of Cr, Ni, Cu, and Zn. A different speciation of Cd was controlled by multiple geochemical characteristics of the sediment. The heavy metal levels of the primary and secondary phases in the central and lateral areas were lower than the control and medial areas because of differences in the submarine structures and hydrodynamics. The enrichment and adsorption of Cr, Ni, Cu, and Zn in sediment was stronger than the release of particles that were resuspended. While the influence of fine particles and organic matter from the sediment in the central and outer areas was limited, an enrichment factor analysis suggested that Cd in sediment showed enrichment to some extent. This paper provides a scientific basis for the construction of marine ranching and ecological restoration in Haizhou Bay.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Rickettsia spp. belonging to the spotted fever group (SFG) cause infections in humans, domestic animals and wildlife. At least five SFG rickettsial species have been reported in China, but the occurrence of Rickettsia aeschlimannii and R. massiliae in ticks has not been characterized to date. FINDINGS: A total of 114 adult ticks were collected from sheep in Yining County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in northwest China. The ticks were identified from morphological and molecular characteristics. All samples were examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and six genetic markers were used to determine the Rickettsia spp. in the ticks. The ticks collected were identified as Rhipicephalus turanicus. Three different lineages of Rh. turanicus from Yining County were discovered on phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA and cox1. Twenty-one of the 114 samples (18.42%) were positive for rickettsial agents. Phylogenetic analysis based on six genetic sequences showed that three rickettsial species were present, namely: R. aeschlimannii (19.05%, 4/21), R. massiliae (19.05%, 4/21) and R. sibirica variant (61.90%, 13/21), which is clustered in the clade of R. sibirica subsp. sibirica. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first description of R. aeschlimannii and R. massiliae in China. R. massiliae, R. aeschlimannii and R. sibirica variant co-circulate in the region of the China-Kazakhstan border, in northwest China. Rickettsial agents in ticks of the genus Rhipicephalus from migrant birds, transported livestock, wildlife and human beings should be investigated further in the region of the China-Central Asian border.
