RESUMEN

Background: The aim of this study was to classify distinct subgroups of adolescents based on the severity levels of their mobile phone addiction and to investigate how these groups differed in terms of their psychosocial characteristics. We surveyed a total of 2,230 adolescents using three different questionnaires to assess the severity of their mobile phone addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, psychological resilience, and personality. Latent class analysis was employed to identify the subgroups, and we utilized Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves and multinomial logistic regression for statistical analysis. All data analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.5. Methods: We classified the subjects into subgroups based on their mobile phone addiction severity, and the results revealed a clear pattern with a three-class model based on the likelihood level of mobile phone addiction (p < 0.05). We examined common trends in psychosocial traits such as age, grade at school, parental education level, anxiety levels, and resilience. ROC analysis of sensitivity versus 1-specificity for various mobile phone addiction index (MPAI) scores yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.893 (95% CI, 0.879 to 0.905, p < 0.001). We also determined diagnostic value indices for potential cutoff points ranging from 8 to 40. The optimal cutoff value for MPAI was found to be >14, which corresponded to the maximum Youden index (Youden index = 0.751). Results: The latent classification process in this research confirmed the existence of three distinct mobile phone user groups. We also examined the psychosocial characteristics that varied in relation to the severity levels of addiction. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the categorization of adolescents based on the severity of mobile phone addiction and sheds light on the psychosocial characteristics associated with different addiction levels. These findings are expected to enhance our understanding of mobile phone addiction traits and stimulate further research in this area.

A plasmonic tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG)-based sensor for the detection of calcium ion (Ca2+) was proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Hydrogel material was synthesized by utilizing hydrogen bond recombination between cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Sodium alginate (SA) was incorporated into this hydrogel material, resulting in a composite membrane with specific binding properties for Ca2+. The membrane was applied as a coating on the surface of a gold-coated TFBG. The CNC/PVA-SA modified gold on the TFBG surface enhanced the localized refractive index changes caused by variations of Ca2+ concentrations. The experimental results demonstrated an impressive limit of detection (LOD) of approximately 0.025 fM, which is five orders of magnitude better than the current LODs of similar Ca2+ sensors. And the proposed Ca2+ sensor exhibited a wide dynamic range of 10-16 M to 10-6 M.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the efficacy of levonorgestrelintrauterine system, Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II), and dydrogesterone in preventing the recurrence of endometrial polyps after hysteroscopic endometrial polypectomy. METHODS: One hundred seventy patients who underwent hysteroscopic endometrial polypectomy in the Gynecology Department of Tianmen First People's Hospital in Hubei Province from January 2022 to June 2023 were randomly divided into the levonorgestrelintrauterine system group, Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II) group, dydrogesterone group, and a control group. The recurrence rates, endometrial thickness, and menstrual volume changes at 6 and 12 months post-operation were compared among these four groups. RESULTS: The recurrence rates in the levonorgestrelintrauterine system group, Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II) group, and dydrogesterone group were lower than the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.01), with the levonorgestrelintrauterine system group having the lowest recurrence rate. The endometrial thickness at 6 and 12 months post-operation in the levonorgestrelintrauterine system group, Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II) group, and dydrogesterone group was thinner than that of the control group and thinner than pre-operation, with statistical significance (P < 0.01). The menstrual volume at 3 months post-operation in the levonorgestrelintrauterine system group, Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II) group, and dydrogesterone group was significantly less than the control group, and less than the pre-operation volume. CONCLUSION: Dydrogesterone, drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II), and levonorgestrelintrauterine system all play a role in preventing the recurrence of endometrial polyps, but levonorgestrelintrauterine system is significantly better than dydrogesterone and Drospirenone & ethinylestradiol tablets (II) in terms of postoperative recurrence rate, endometrial thickness, menstrual changes, and compliance, and is worth promoting in clinical application.

Smart dressings integrated with bioelectronics have attracted considerable attention and become promising solutions for skin wound management. However, due to the mechanical distinction between human body and the interface of electronics, previous smart dressings often suffered obvious degradation in electrical performance when attached to the soft and curvilinear wound sites. Here, we report a stretchable dressing integrated with temperature and pH sensor for wound status monitoring, as well as an electrically controlled drug delivery system for infection treatment. The wound dressing was featured with the deployment of liquid metal for seamless connection between rigid electrical components and gold particle-based electrodes, achieving a stretchable soft-hard interface. Stretching tests showed that both the sensing system and drug delivery system exhibited good stretchability and long-term stable conductivity with the resistance change rate less than 6 % under 50 % strain. Animal experiments demonstrated that the smart dressing was capable of detecting bacterial infection via the biomarkers of temperature and pH value and the infection factors of wound were significantly improved with therapy through electrically controlled antibiotics releasing. This proof-of-concept prototype has potential to significantly improve management of the wound, especially those with dynamic strain.

To investigate the role of TopBP1-interacting checkpoint and replication regulator (TICRR) in the tumorigenesis and prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients. Wilcoxon signed-rank test and logistic regression were utilized to analyze the relationship between clinical characteristics and TICRR expression in LUAD from TCGA dataset. Kaplan-Meier plots and Cox regressions were used to assess the impact of TICRR impact on prognosis. ROC curves and nomograms were generated to further evaluate the relationship between TICRR expression and the risk of LUAD. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was conducted on TCGA dataset, and ssGSEA was employed to investigate the association between TICRR and immune infiltrates. The results showed that high TICRR expression was significantly associated with various clinical factors including gender, age, pathological stage, T stage, N stage, M stage, outcome of primary therapy and smoking status. ROC curves also demonstrated that TICRR was a promising biomarker for molecular pathology diagnosis in LUAD patients (AUC = 0.952). Further analysis using gene ontology (GO) term enrichment and GSEA revealed an abnormal correlation between TICRR expression and cell division. Interestingly, ssGSEA analysis showed that TICRR expression correlated with multiple immune cell types, such as Th2 cell, TFH cell, mast cell, iDC, eosinophils, and dendritic cell. Lastly, the KM-plotters indicated that LUAD patients with high TICRR expression obtained worse life expectancy (P < .001). TICRR has proven to be a valuable tool in predicting disease progression and prognosis in patients with LUAD, thereby establishing itself as a fitting biomarker for forecasting overall survival (OS) of LUAD patients.

Vedolizumab (VDZ), a monoclonal antibody to α4ß7 integrin, is available for patients with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis (UC). This study planned to assess the real-world effectiveness and safety of VDZ for UC patients in Northern China. We enrolled patients with moderate-to-severe UC who underwent VDZ induction therapy from March 2021 to November 2022 at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. The primary outcome was clinical remission at weeks 14 and 52 after the initial VDZ therapy. Overall adverse events and risk factors associated with loss of response (LOR) were also evaluated. Seventy-three UC patients receiving VDZ therapy were included in this study. The rates of clinical response, clinical remission, and steroid-free clinical remission were 69.9%, 39.7%, and 34.2% at week 14 and 90.5%, 66.7%, and 64.4% at week 52, respectively. The mucosal remission rates were 37.5% (18/48) at week 14 ±â€…8 and 27.3% (9/33) at week 52 ±â€…16, while only 2 and 3 patients achieved mucosal healing at weeks 14 ±â€…8 and 52 ±â€…16, respectively. Of the UC patients, 23.3% experienced adverse events associated with VDZ, most of which were mild and self-limiting. Until the last follow-up, 37 of 73 UC patients experienced LOR during the maintenance period. Patients with a higher ulcerative colitis endoscopic severity index (UCEIS), partial Mayo scores (PMS), or hemoglobin below 120 g/L at baseline were more likely to experience LOR after VDZ induction therapy. VDZ is an effective and safe agent for patients with moderate-to-severe UC in Northern China. A high baseline UCEIS, PMS, or hemoglobin < 120 g/L may be an independent risk factor for LOR during the maintenance period.

Oxidative stress and inflammation are key drivers of osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis and disease progression. Herein we report the synthesis of poly(p-coumaric) nanoparticles (PCA NPs) from p-courmaic acid (p-CA), a naturally occurring phytophenolic acid, to be a multifunctional and drug-free therapeutic for temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). Compared to hyaluronic acid (HA) that is clinically given as viscosupplementation, PCA NPs exhibited long-term efficacy, superior anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in alleviating TMJOA and repairing the TMJ cartilage and subchondral bone in a rat model of TMJOA. Notably, TMJ repair mediated by PCA NPs could be attributed to their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in enhancing cell proliferation and matrix synthesis, while reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, matrix degradation, and chondrocyte ferroptosis. Overall, our study demonstrates a multifunctional nanoparticle, synthesized from natural p-coumaric acid, that is stable and possess potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and ferroptosis inhibition, beneficial for treatment of TMJOA.

Background: D-dimer at a low level is important evidence for excluding the onset and progression of thrombosis. It is readily detectable and yields rapid results, although significant variability exists among different detection systems. Our study aims to enhance the consistency across various detection systems. Methods: Twelve detection systems were included in our study. We sought to address this inconsistency by using various calibrators (two supplied by manufacturers and two comprising pooled human plasma diluted with different diluents) to standardize D-dimer measurements. We categorized the data into three groups according to D-dimer concentration levels: low (≤0.5 mg/L), medium (>0.5 mg/L - <3 mg/L), and high (≥3 mg/L). We then analyzed the data focusing on range, consistency, comparability, negative coincidence rate, and false negative rate. Results: Calibrating with pooled human plasma led to narrower result ranges in the low and medium groups (P < 0.05). In the low group, consistency improved from weak to strong (ICC 0.4-0.7, P﹤0.05), while it remained excellent in the other groups and overall (ICCï¹¥0.75, P﹤0.05). The percentage of pairwise comparability increased in both the low and high groups. Additionally, there was an increase in the negative coincidence rate. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that uniform calibration of D-dimer can significantly enhance the consistency of results across different detection systems.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) usually involves damage to complex auditory pathways such as inner ear cells and auditory nerves. The highly intricate and nuanced characteristics of these cells render their repair and regeneration extremely challenging, making it difficult to restore hearing to normal levels once it has been compromised. The effectiveness of traditional drugs is so minimal that they provide little help with the treatment. Fortunately, extensive experiments have demonstrated that combining biomaterials with conventional techniques significantly enhances drug effectiveness. This article reviews the research progress of biomaterials in protecting hair cells and the auditory nerve, repairing genes related to hearing, and developing artificial cochlear materials. By organizing the knowledge presented in this article, perhaps new insights can be provided for the clinical management of SNHL.

Effective treatment of large acetabular defects remains among the most challenging aspects of revision total hip arthroplasty (THA), due to the deficiency of healthy bone stock and degradation of the support columns. Generic uncemented components, which are favored in primary THA, are often unsuitable in revision cases, where the bone-implant contact may be insufficient for fixation, without significant reaming of the limited residual bone. This study presents a computational design strategy for automatically generating patient-specific implants that simultaneously maximize the bone-implant contact area, and minimize bone reaming while ensuring insertability. These components can be manufactured using the same additive manufacturing methods as porous components and may reduce cost and operating-time, compared to existing patient-specific systems. This study compares the performance of implants generated via the proposed method to optimally fitted hemispherical implants, in terms of the achievable bone-implant contact surface, and the volume of reamed bone. Computer-simulated results based on the reconstruction of a set of 15 severe pelvic defects (Paprosky 2A-3B) suggest that the patient-specific components increase bone-implant contact by 63% (median: 63%; SD: 44%; 95% CI: 52.3%-74.0%; RMSD: 42%), and reduce the volume of reamed bone stock by 97% (median: 98%; SD: 4%; 95% CI: 95.9%-97.4%; RMSD: 3.7%).

As a highly pathogenic avian virus, H5 influenza poses a serious threat to livestock, the poultry industry, and public health security. Hemagglutinin (HA) is both the dominant epitope and the main target of influenza-neutralizing antibodies. Here, we designed a nanoparticle hemagglutinin influenza vaccine to improve the immunogenicity of the influenza vaccine. In this study, HA5 subtype influenza virus was used as the candidate antigen and was combined with the artificially designed double-branch scaffold protein I53_dn5 A and B. A structurally correct and bioactive trimer HA5-I53_dn5B/Y98F was obtained through secretion and purification using an insect baculovirus expression system; I53_dn5A was obtained by purification using a prokaryotic expression system. HA5-I53_dn5B/Y98F and I53_dn5A self-assembled into spherical nanoparticles (HA5-I53_dn5) in vitro with a diameter of about 45 nm. Immunization and serum test results showed that both HA5-I53_dn5B/Y98F and HA5-I53_dn5 could induce HA5-specific antibodies; however, the immunogenicity of HA5-I53_dn5 was better than that of HA5-I53_dn5B/Y98F. Groups treated with HA5-I53_dn5B and HA5-I53_dn5 nanoparticles produced IgG antibody titers that were not statistically different from those of the nanoparticle-containing adjuvant group. This production of trimerized HA5-I53_dn5B and HA5-I53_dn5 nanoparticles using baculovirus expression provides a reference for the development of novel, safe, and efficient influenza vaccines.

Chronic wound rescue is critical for diabetic patients but is challenging to achieve with a specific and long-term strategy. The prolonged bacterial inflammation is particularly prevalent in hyperglycemia-induced wounds, usually leading to severe tissue damage. Such a trend could further suffer from an environmental suitability provided by macrophages for persisting Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and even deteriorate by their mutual reinforcement. However, the strategy of both suppressing bacteria growth and immunoreprogramming the inflammatory type of macrophages to break their vicious harm to wound healing is still lacking. Here, a self-adapting biomass carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) hydrogel comprising immunomodulatory nanoparticles is reported to achieve Gram-negative/Gram-positive bacteria elimination and anti-inflammatory cytokines induction to ameliorate the cutaneous microenvironment. Mechanistically, antibacterial peptides and CMCs synergistically result in a long-term inhibition against methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) over a period of 7 days, and miR-301a reprograms the M2 macrophage via the PTEN/PI3Kγ/mTOR signaling pathway, consequently mitigating inflammation and promoting angiogenesis for diabetic wound healing in rats. In this vein, immunoregulatory hydrogel is a promising all-biomass dressing ensuring biocompatibility, providing a perspective to regenerate cutaneous damaged tissue, and repairing chronic wounds on skin.

Given the prevalence of the malignant weed Chinese Sprangletop (Leptochloa chinensis (L.) Nees) in rice fields, the development of novel herbicides against this weed has aroused wide interest. Here, we report a novel diphenyl ether-pyrimidine hybrid, DEP-5, serving as a systematic pre/postemergence herbicide candidate for broad-spectrum weed control in rice fields, specifically for L. chinensis. Notably, DEP-5 exhibits over 80% herbicidal activity against the resistant biotypes even at 37.5 g a.i./ha under greenhouse conditions and has complete control of L. chinensis at 150 g a.i./ha in the rice fields. We uncover that DEP-5 acts as a noncompetitive inhibitor of acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) with an inhibition constant (Ki) of 39.4 µM. We propose that DEP-5 binds to AHAS in two hydrophobic-driven binding modes that differ from commercial AHAS inhibitors. Overall, these findings demonstrate that DEP-5 has great potential to be developed into a herbicide for L. chinensis control and inspire fresh concepts for novel AHAS-inhibiting herbicide design.

Understanding the extent of inflammation is crucial for early disease detection, monitoring disease progression, and evaluating treatment responses. Over the past decade, researchers have demonstrated the need to understand the extent of inflammation through qualitative or quantitative characterization of tissue viscoelasticity using different techniques. In this scientific review, an examination of research on the association between elasticity and Viscosity in diseases, particularly as tissue inflammation progresses, is conducted. A review of utilizing mechanical rheological models to characterize quantitative viscoelastic parameters of normal and inflamed tissues is also undertaken. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, we identified 14 full-text studies suitable for review out of 290 articles published from January 2000 to January 2024. We used PRISMA guidelines for the systematic review. In the review, three studies demonstrated the criterion used by the researchers in identifying the best rheological model. Eleven studies showed the clinical application of the rheological model in quantifying the viscoelastic properties of normal and pathological tissue. The review quantified viscoelastic parameters for normal and pathological tissue across various soft tissues. It evaluated the effectiveness of each viscoelastic property in distinguishing between normal and pathological tissue stiffness. Furthermore, the review outlined additional viscoelastic-related parameters for researchers to consider in future stiffness classification studies.

Liver fibrosis is a determinant-stage process of many chronic liver diseases and affected over 7.9 billion populations worldwide with increasing demands of ideal therapeutic agents. Discovery of active molecules with anti-hepatic fibrosis efficacies presents the most attacking filed. Here, we revealed that hepatic L-aspartate levels were decreased in CCl4-induced fibrotic mice. Instead, supplementation of L-aspartate orally alleviated typical manifestations of liver injury and fibrosis. These therapeutic efficacies were alongside improvements of mitochondrial adaptive oxidation. Notably, treatment with L-aspartate rebalanced hepatic cholesterol-steroid metabolism and reduced the levels of liver-impairing metabolites, including corticosterone (CORT). Mechanistically, L-aspartate treatment efficiently reversed CORT-mediated glucocorticoid receptor ß (GRß) signaling activation and subsequent transcriptional suppression of the mitochondrial genome by directly binding to the mitochondrial genome. Knockout of GRß ameliorated corticosterone-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction and hepatocyte damage which also weakened the improvements of L-aspartate in suppressing GRß signaling. These data suggest that L-aspartate ameliorates hepatic fibrosis by suppressing GRß signaling via rebalancing cholesterol-steroid metabolism, would be an ideal candidate for clinical liver fibrosis treatment.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of nicotinamide riboside against collagenase-induced hemorrhagic stroke and its underlying mechanisms of action. An intracerebral hemorrhage model was constructed by stereotactically injecting collagenase into the right striatum of adult male Institute for Cancer Research mice. After 30 minutes, nicotinamide riboside was administered via the tail vein. The mice were sacrificed at different time points for assessments. Nicotinamide riboside reduced collagenase-induced hemorrhagic area, significantly reduced cerebral water content and histopathological damage, promoted neurological function recovery, and suppressed reactive oxygen species production and neuroinflammation. Nicotinamide riboside exerts neuroprotective effects against collagenase-induced intracerebral hemorrhage by inhibiting neuroinflammation and oxidative stress.

Interfacial electric field holds significant importance in determining both the polar molecular configuration and surface coverage during electrocatalysis. This study introduces a methodology leveraging the varying electric dipole moment of SO2 under distinct interfacial electric field strengths to enhance the selectivity of the SO2 electroreduction process. This approach presented the first attempt to utilize pulsed voltage application to the Au/PTFE membrane electrode for the control of the molecular configuration and coverage of SO2 on the electrode surface. Remarkably, the modulation of pulse duration resulted in a substantial inhibition of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) (FEH2 < 3%) under millisecond pulse conditions (ta = 10 ms, tc = 300 ms, Ea = -0.8 V (vs Hg/Hg2SO4), Ec = -1.8 V (vs Hg/Hg2SO4)), concomitant with a noteworthy enhancement in H2S selectivity (FEH2S > 97%). A comprehensive analysis, incorporating in situ Raman spectroscopy, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, COMSOL simulations, and DFT calculations, corroborated the increased selectivity of H2S products was primarily associated with the inherently large dipole moment of the SO2 molecule. The enhancement of the interfacial electric field induced by millisecond pulses was instrumental in amplifying SO2 coverage, activating SO2, facilitating the formation of the pivotal intermediate product *SOH, and effectively reducing the reaction energy barrier in the SO2 reduction process. These findings provide novel insights into the influences of ion and molecular transport dynamics, as well as the temporal intricacies of competitive pathways during the SO2 electroreduction process. Moreover, it underscores the intrinsic correlation between the electric dipole moment and surface-molecule interaction of the catalyst.

Corrosion transition during uniform corrosion of zirconium alloys receives much attention since it is the major degradation procedure. However, predicting the time and oxide thickness at transition has been hindered by the lack of knowledge about transition kinetics and how it responds to varied temperatures. Current study investigated the temperature-sensitivity of corrosion kinetics, transition behavior and microstructures of various zirconium alloys corroded in superheated steam ranging from 390 °C/10.3 MPa to 455 °C/10.3 MPa by autoclave experiment and microscopy analyses. Transition time was found to follow Arrhenius-type relationship with temperature for the first time. Both the transition oxide thickness and metastable oxide thickness increased with temperature, which was theoretically deduced and experimentally confirmed. In Zr-4 oxides, a transition thickness varying from 3.3 µm at 390 °C to 4.2 µm at 455 °C was observed. Microstructure results presented rather large HCP-ZrO particles (200∼400 nm) at O/M interface and they were even larger at the protruded positions. An intense sub-stoichiometric atmosphere was identified at O/M interface, promoting the growth of metastable oxides. The activation energy of transition kinetics was 86∼114 kJ/mol, which is close to diffusion activation energy of oxygen in tetragonal zirconia. A new model based on parabolic-law empirical relationship was thus proposed to predict transition kinetics. Predictions regarding the time to oxidation breakaway at 900-1000 °C were reported, and the results were in good agreement with the experimental data.

BACKGROUND: Developing novel germplasm by using wheat wild related species is an effective way to rebuild the wheat resource bank. The Psathyrostachys huashanica Keng (P. huashanica, 2n = 2x = 14, NsNs) is regarded as a superior species to improve wheat breeding because of its multi-resistance, early maturation and numerous tiller traits. Introducing genetic components of P. huashanica into the common wheat background is the most important step in achieving the effective use. Therefore, the cytogenetic characterization and influence of the introgressed P. huashanica large segment chromosomes in the wheat background is necessary to be explored. RESULTS: In this study, we characterized a novel derived line, named D88-2a, a progeny of the former characterized wheat-P. huashanica partial amphiploid line H8911 (2n = 7x = 49, AABBDDNs). Cytological identification showed that the chromosomal composition of D88-2a was 2n = 44 = 22II, indicating the addition of exogenous chromosomes. Genomic in situ hybridization demonstrated that the supernumerary chromosomes were a pair of homologues from the P. huashanica and could be stably inherited in the common wheat background. Molecular markers and 15 K SNP array indicated that the additional chromosomes were derived from the sixth homoeologous group (i.e., 6Ns) of P. huashanica. Based on the distribution of the heterozygous single-nucleotide polymorphism sites and fluorescence in situ hybridization karyotype of each chromosome, this pair of additional chromosomes was confirmed as P. huashanica 6Ns large segment chromosomes, which contained the entire short arm and the proximal centromere portion of the long arm. In terms of the agronomic traits, the addition line D88-2a exhibited enhanced stripe rust resistance, improved spike characteristics and increased protein content than its wheat parent line 7182. CONCLUSIONS: The new wheat germplasm D88-2a is a novel cytogenetically stable wheat-P. huashanica 6Ns large segment addition line, and the introgressed large segment alien chromosome has positive impact on plant spikelet number and stripe rust resistance. Thus, this germplasm can be used for genetic improvement of cultivated wheat and the study of functional alien chromosome segment.

BACKGROUND: Giant salamander protein peptide is a peptide with rich functional properties. Giant salamander protein peptide KGEYNK (KK-6) is a peptide with both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of KK-6 are still unclear. When we studied the functional mechanism of KK-6, we found that the antioxidant property of KK-6 has a synergistic and promoting effect on anti-inflammatory properties. RESULTS: KK-6 enhances cellular resistance to LPS via the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway, leading to increased levels of inflammatory factors: interleukin-1ß (764.81 ng mL-1), interleukin-6 (1.06 ng mL-1) and tumor necrosis factor-α (4440.45 ng mL-1). KK-6 demonstrates potent antioxidant properties by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway, resulting in elevated levels of antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase: 0.03 µg mL-1; superoxide dismutase: 0.589 µg mL-1) and a reduction in the concentration of the oxidative product malondialdehyde (967.05 µg mL-1). CONCLUSION: Our findings highlight the great potential of KK-6, a peptide extracted from giant salamander protein, as a remedy for intestinal inflammation. Through its dual role as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, KK-6 offers a promising avenue for alleviating inflammation-related damage and oxidative stress. This study lays the foundation for further exploration of giant salamander products and highlights their importance in health and novel food development. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.
