BACKGROUND: On December 7, 2022, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of China's State Council released the "Ten New Guidelines" to optimize the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) prevention policies further. This signaled a broader shift from "dynamic clearing" to "coexisting with the virus" nationwide. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the experiences and perspectives of interdisciplinary nurses during the COVID-19 outbreak in China after the implementation of the "Ten New Guidelines". The goal is to understand the challenges faced by this unique nursing group and inform organizational support to bolster their well-being and resilience. METHODS: Two tertiary hospitals in southeastern Zhejiang Province were selected, with interdisciplinary nurses chosen as subjects. A constructivist qualitative research approach was employed, using semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Research data were collected through interviews and analyzed using content analysis. RESULTS: Fifteen interdisciplinary nurses were included in this study. The analysis revealed four main themes and nine sub-themes. The main themes were: (1) ineffective organizational support (inadequate organizational care, poor PPE, excessive workload), (2) physiological distress after contracting COVID-19 (extreme physical fatigue, leakage of urine due to severe coughing), (3) fear of being wrong (fear of being reprimanded in public, psychological anxiety), and (4) family responsibility anxiety (difficulty of loyalty and filial piety, obligations to their children). CONCLUSION: We provide new evidence that organizations must proactively address the support, training, and communication needs of staff, particularly interdisciplinary nurses, to supplement epidemic containment. This is also essential in helping mitigate the work-family conflicts such roles can create.

Considering the magnetic shielding requirements of both geomagnetic field and 50 Hz power-line frequency in the complex working conditions of the power grid, an electromagnetic shielding system combining active and passive modes is proposed in this article. A three-dimensional Helmholtz coil with a magnetic shielding barrel nested inside is established by the COMSOL simulation tool, and the magnetic shielding efficiency of the system is analyzed. Comparing different materials, the simulation results indicate that permalloy alloy exhibits better shielding performance than pure iron and nickel materials. Additionally, the overall shielding efficiency of the shielding barrel increases linearly with the number of multiple layers. Under the combined active and passive electromagnetic shielding conditions, the system achieves a shielding efficiency of SE = 113.98 dB, demonstrating excellent performance in shielding both AC and DC interference magnetic fields. This study provides theoretical guidance for the construction of magnetic shielding systems in electromagnetic interference environment.

An intensity-demodulated fiber-optic magnetometer is proposed and experimentally investigated, which is fabricated via fusion splicing a segment of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) between single-mode fibers (SMFs), with the cladding air holes of PCF filled with magnetic fluid. Using the magneto-optical properties of the magnetic fluid, the transmission spectrum is changed with an external magnetic field. Based on the intensity variations in the transmission spectrum, the magnetic field is detected, and a sensitivity of 0.238 dB/mT is obtained at 1550.03 nm with the length of PCF 5.5 cm. By converting light signals into electrical signals, a sensitivity of 0.003 V/mT is achieved. The fiber-optic magnetometer possesses the advantages of simple fabrication, compact/robust structure, and low cost.

BACKGROUND: The trend of prediabetes progressing to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is prominent, and effective intervention can lead to a return to prediabetes. Exploring the factors influencing the outcome of prediabetes is helpful to guide clinical intervention. The weight change in patients with prediabetes has not attracted much attention. AIM: To explore the interaction between body weight and the factors affecting the progression of prediabetes to T2DM. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of 236 patients with prediabetes and 50 with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), and collected clinical data and follow-up results of all patients. Based on natural blood glucose outcomes, we classified 66 patients with progression to T2DM into the disease progression (DP) group, and 170 patients without progression to T2DM into the disease outcome (DO) group. We analyzed the factors that influenced prediabetes outcome and the influence of body weight on prediabetes blood glucose outcome by unconditional logistic regression. A general linear model (univariate) was used to analyze the inter-action between body weight and independent influencing factors. RESULTS: There were 98 cases of impaired fasting glucose (IFG), 90 cases of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and 48 cases of coexistent IFG and IGT. The body weight, waist circumference, body mass index, fasting blood glucose, and 2 h plasma glucose of patients with IFG, IGT, and coexistent IFG and IGT were higher than those in patients with NGT (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that body weight, glycosylated hemoglobin, uric acid, fasting insulin, and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance were independent factors affecting progression of prediabetes to T2DM (P < 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the area under the curve predicted by the above indicators combined was 0.905 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.863-0.948], which was greater than that predicted by each indicator alone. Logistic regression analysis with baseline body weight as an independent variable showed that compared with body weight 1, the odds ratio (95%CI) of body weight 3 was 1.399 (1.142-2.126) (P = 0.033). There was a multiplicative interaction between body weight and uric acid (ß = 1.953, P = 0.005). CONCLUSION: High body weight in patients with prediabetes is an independent risk factor for progression to T2DM, and the risk of progression is increased when coexisting with high uric acid level.

A co-sputtering process for the deposition of Fe0.8Ga0.2B alloy magnetostrictive thin films is studied in this paper. The soft magnetic performance of Fe0.8Ga0.2B thin films is modulated by the direct-current (DC) sputtering power of an FeGa target and the radio-frequency (RF) sputtering power of a B target. Characterization results show that the prepared Fe0.8Ga0.2B films are amorphous with uniform thickness and low coercivity. With increasing FeGa DC sputtering power, coercivity raises, resulting from the enhancement of magnetism and grain growth. On the other hand, when the RF sputtering power of the B target increases, the coercivity decreases first and then increases because of the conversion of the films from a crystalline to an amorphous state. The lowest coercivity of 7.51 Oe is finally obtained with the sputtering power of 20 W for the FeGa target and 60 W for the B target. Potentially, this optimization provides a simple way for improving the magnetoelectric coefficient of magnetoelectric composite materials and the sensitivity of magnetoelectric sensors.

At present, flexible pressure-sensitive materials generally have problems with weak adhesion and poor wear resistance, which easily result in friction failure when used for plantar pressure detection. In this study, a flexible pressure sensor with the advantages of a wide detection range, fast recovery, and good abrasive resistance was designed and prepared based on the screen printing process. The pressure-sensitive unit with a structural size of 5 mm× 8 mm was a functional material system due to the use of graphene and epoxy resin. The influence of the different mass ratios of the graphene and epoxy resin on the sensing properties was also studied. The test results showed that when the mass ratio of graphene to epoxy resin was 1:4, the response time and recovery time of the sensing unit were 40.8 ms and 3.7 ms, respectively, and the pressure detection range was 2.5-500 kPa. The sensor can detect dynamic pressure at 0.5 Hz, 1 Hz, 2 Hz, 10 Hz, and 20 Hz and can withstand 11,000 cycles of bending. In addition, adhesion tests showed that the high viscosity of the epoxy helped to improve the interlayer bond between the pressure-sensitive materials and the flexible substrate, which makes it more suitable for plantar pressure detection environments, where friction is common.

Bats, rodents, and shrews are the most important animal sources of human infectious diseases. However, the evolution and transmission of viruses among them remain largely unexplored. Through the meta-transcriptomic sequencing of internal organ and fecal samples from 2,443 wild bats, rodents, and shrews sampled from four Chinese habitats, we identified 669 viruses, including 534 novel viruses, thereby greatly expanding the mammalian virome. Our analysis revealed high levels of phylogenetic diversity, identified cross-species virus transmission events, elucidated virus origins, and identified cases of invertebrate viruses in mammalian hosts. Host order and sample size were the most important factors impacting virome composition and patterns of virus spillover. Shrews harbored a high richness of viruses, including many invertebrate-associated viruses with multi-organ distributions, whereas rodents carried viruses with a greater capacity for host jumping. These data highlight the remarkable diversity of mammalian viruses in local habitats and their ability to emerge in new hosts.

Here, we present a high-precision demodulation method that supports the arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) system, which includes a 1 × 8 AWG as the primary filter with a 0.5 nm channel spacing and a 1 × 4 AWG as the auxiliary filter with a 1 nm channel spacing. The high precision is achieved through an innovative method of decoupling three channels, involving two adjacent channels of the primary filter and one channel of the secondary auxiliary filter. Simulation results show that the AWGs have a good transmission spectrum with crosstalk below -24.8 dB, non-uniformities below 0.8 dB, insertion loss below -3.7 dB, 3 dB bandwidth of 0.25 nm, and 10 dB bandwidth of 0.43 nm. The interrogation precision can reach 8 pm, with a dynamic range of 0.4 nm, corresponding to a single FBG.

Chalcohalides not only keep the balance between the nonlinear optical (NLO) coefficient and wide band gap, but also provide a promising solution to achieve sufficient birefringence for phase-matching ability in NLO crystals. In this study, a novel chalcohalide, Cs4 Zn5 P6 S18 I2 (1) is successfully synthesized, by incorporating the highly electropositive Cs and the large electronegative I element into the zinc thiophosphate. Its 3D open framework features an edge-shared by distorted [ZnS4 ], ethanol-like [P2 S6 ], and unusual [ZnS2 I2 ] polyhedrons, which is inconsistent with the soft-hard-acids-bases theory. Remarkably, compound 1 simultaneously exhibits the large second-harmonic generation (SHG, 1.1×AgGaS2 , @1.3 µm) and a wide band gap (3.75 eV) toward a high laser-induced damage threshold (16.7×AgGaS2 , @1.06 µm), satisfying the rigorous requirements for a prominent infrared NLO material with concurrent SHG intensity (≥0.5×AGS) and band gap (≥3.5 eV). Moreover, to the best of the knowledge, the experimental result shows that phase 1 has the largest birefringence (0.108, @546 nm) in chalcohalide and meets phase-matching behavior demand originating from the polarizable anisotropy of NLO-functional motifs. This finding may provide great opportunities for designing birefringent chalcohalides.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Tian-Men-Dong decoction (TD) has been able to effectively treat lung cancer in China for thousands of years. TD improves the quality of life in lung cancer patients by promoting nourishment of yin and reducing dryness, clearing the lung and removing toxins. Pharmacological studies show that TD contains active antitumour ingredients, but its underlying mechanism remains unknown. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims at exploring potential mechanisms of TD in the treatment of lung cancer by regulating granulocytic-myeloid-derived suppressor cells (G-MDSCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: An orthotopic lung cancer mouse model was generated by intrapulmonary injection with LLC-luciferase cells in immunocompetent C57BL/6 mice or immunodeficient nude mice. TD/saline was orally administered once to the model mice daily for 4 weeks. Live imaging was conducted to monitor tumour growth. Immune profiles were detected by flow cytometry. H&E and ELISA were applied to test the cytotoxicity of the TD treatment. RT-qPCR and western blotting were performed to detect apoptosis-related proteins in G-MDSCs. A neutralizing antibody (anti-Ly6G) was utilized to exhaust the G-MDSCs via intraperitoneal injection. G-MDSCs were adoptively transferred from wild-type tumour-bearing mice. Immunofluorescence, TUNEL and Annexin V/PI staining were conducted to analyse apoptosis-related markers. A coculture assay of purified MDSCs and T cells labelled with CFSE was performed to test the immunosuppressive activity of MDSCs. The presence of TD/IL-1ß/TD + IL-1ß in purified G-MDSCs cocultured with the LLC system was used for ex vivo experiments to detect IL-1ß-mediated apoptosis of G-MDSCs. RESULTS: TD prolonged the survival of immune competent C57BL/6 mice in an orthotopic lung cancer model, but did not have the same effect in immunodeficient nude mice, indicating that its antitumour properties of TD are exerted by regulating immunity. TD induced G-MDSC apoptosis via the IL-1ß-mediated NF-κB signalling cascade leading to effectively weaken the immunosuppressive activity of G-MDSCs and promote CD8+ T-cell infiltration, which was supported by both the depletion and adoptive transfer of G-MDSCs assays. In addition, TD also showed minimal cytotoxicity both in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSION: This study reveals for the first time that TD, a classic TCM prescription, is able to regulate G-MDSC activity and trigger its apoptosis via the IL-1ß-mediated NF-κB signalling pathway, reshaping the tumour microenvironment and demonstrating antitumour effects. These findings provide a scientific foundation the clinical treatment of lung cancer with TD.

Electronic screens have become an integral part of modern life, accompanied with growing concerns for children's neuropsychological development. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between measures of early life screen exposure and hyperactive behaviors among preschool children. The study also aimed to investigate their cumulative effects and the critical window for these associations. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 52 625 mother-child dyads at preschools in LongHua District of Shenzhen, China. A self-administered structured questionnaire was used to assess socio-demographic characteristics, duration of children's electronic screen exposure in each of the first 3 years following birth and the presence of current hyperactive behaviors. A series of logistic regression models were used to examine the relationship between previous screen time and current hyperactive behaviors. A crossover analysis was used to explore the critical window for a significant relationship between screen time and hyperactive behaviors. We found that exposure to electronic screens in the first 3 years of life was associated with hyperactive behaviors in preschool children. A cumulative effect was shown in children with an average daily screen time less than 60 min, with adjusted ORs increasing from 1.262 to 1.989 as screen exposure years increased from 1 to 3 years. A critical window was identified in that children in the first 2 years after birth were vulnerable to electronic screen exposure. Exposure to televisions, mobile phones, and computers were all related to elevated risks for hyperactive behaviors. In conclusion, early screen exposure appears to increase the risk for hyperactive behaviors in preschool children with the presence of a cumulative effect, a critical window and different electronic screens having similar effects.

GaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) terahertz (THz) detectors have been widely studied and applied in the past few decades. However, there are few reports about the influence of GaN/AlGaN heterostructure material properties on the detection model at present. In this paper, a response voltage model for a GaN HEMT THz detector that considers the carrier scattering in a GaN/AlGaN heterostructure is proposed. The phonon scattering, dislocation scattering, and interface roughness scattering mechanisms are taken into account in the classic THz response voltage model; furthermore, the influence of various material parameters on the response voltage is studied. In a low-temperature region, acoustic scattering plays an important role, and the response voltage drops with an increase in temperature. In a high temperature range, optical phonon scattering is the main scattering mechanism, and the detector operates in a non-resonant detection mode. With an increase in carrier surface density, the response voltage decreases and then increases due to piezoelectric scattering and optical phonon scattering. For dislocation and interface roughness scattering, the response voltage is inversely proportional to the dislocation density and root mean square roughness (RMS) but is positively related to lateral correlation length. Finally, a comparison between our model and the reported models shows that our proposed model is more accurate.

A range of studies have shown that prenatal maternal stress (PNMS) exposure is associated with offspring autistic-like behaviors, however the potential pathways remain unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the mediating role of parent-child interactions in early life in the association between PNMS exposure and preschoolers' autistic-like behaviors. Data from 65,928 child-parent dyads were obtained via a primary caregiver-reported questionnaire administered as part of the Longhua Child Cohort Study. To strengthen confidence in the reliability of the results, the analyses were initially conducted on a random selection of 70% of the total sample, and then validated on the remaining 30% of the sample. Analysis of covariance and multiple linear models were employed to estimate the associations between PNMS exposure, parent-child interactions in early life, and children's autistic-like behaviors. The results showed that PNMS exposure was positively associated with the presence of autistic-like behaviors at preschool age. The total indirect effect of the frequency of positive parent-child interactions in early life accounted for 9.69% or 8.99% of the variance of the association. Our findings indicate that parent-child interactions in early life might function as potential mediators of the association between PNMS and the increased risk of offspring autistic-like behaviors.

Bisphenol A is a common environmental factor and endocrine disruptor that exerts a negative impact on male reproductive ability. By exploring bisphenol A-induced testicular cell death using the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mouse model, we found that a ferroptosis phenomenon may exist. Mice were divided into six groups and administered different doses of bisphenol A via intragastric gavage once daily for 45 consecutive days. Serum was then collected to determine the levels of superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde. Epididymal sperm was also collected for semen analysis, and testicular tissue was collected for ferritin content determination, electron microscope observation of mitochondrial morphology, immunohistochemistry, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and western blot analysis. Exposure to bisphenol A was found to decrease sperm quality and cause oxidative damage, iron accumulation, and mitochondrial damage in the testes of mice. In addition, bisphenol A was confirmed to affect the expression of the ferroptosis-related genes, glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1), cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2), and acyl-CoA synthetase 4 (ACSL4) in mouse testicular tissues. Accordingly, we speculate that bisphenol A induces oxidative stress, which leads to the ferroptosis of testicular cells. Overall, the inhibition of ferroptosis may be a potential strategy to reduce male reproductive toxicity caused by bisphenol A.

Nano-steps, as classical nano-geometric reference materials, are very important for calibrating measurements in the semiconductor industry; therefore, controlling the height of nano-steps is critical for ensuring accurate measurements. Accordingly, in this study nano-steps with heights of 1, 2, 3 and 4 nm were fabricated with good morphology using atomic layer deposition (ALD) combined with wet etching. The roughness of the fabricated nano-steps was effectively controlled by utilizing the three-dimensional conformal ALD process. Moreover, the relationship between the surface roughness and the height was studied using a simulation-based analysis. Essentially, roughness control is crucial in fabricating nano-steps with a critical dimension of less than 5 nm. In this study, the minimum height of a nano-step that was successfully achieved by combining ALD and wet etching was 1 nm. Furthermore, the preconditions for quality assurance for a reference material and the influencing factors of the fabrication method were analyzed based on the 1 nm nano-step sample. Finally, the fabricated samples were used in time-dependent experiments to verify the optimal stability of the nano-steps as reference materials. This research is instructive to fabricate nano-geometric reference materials to within 5 nm in height, and the proposed method can be easily employed to manufacture wafer-sized step height reference materials, thus enabling its large-scale industrial application for in-line calibration in integrated circuit production lines.

Environmental RNA viruses are ubiquitous and diverse, and probably have important ecological and biogeochemical impacts. Understanding the global diversity of RNA viruses is limited by sampling biases, dependence on cell culture and PCR for virus discovery, and a focus on viruses pathogenic to humans or economically important animals and plants. To address this knowledge gap, we generated metatranscriptomic sequence data from 32 diverse environments in 16 provinces and regions of China. We identified 6,624 putatively novel virus operational taxonomic units from soil, sediment and faecal samples, greatly expanding known diversity of the RNA virosphere. These newly identified viruses included positive-sense, negative-sense and double-strand RNA viruses from at least 62 families. Sediments and animal faeces were rich sources of viruses. Virome compositions were affected by local environmental factors, including organic content and eukaryote species abundance. Notably, environmental factors had a greater impact on the abundance and diversity of plant, fungal and bacterial viruses than of animal viromes. Our data confirm that RNA viruses are an integral part of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

Over the last several decades, no emerging virus has had a profound impact on the world as the SARS-CoV-2 that emerged at the end of 2019 has done. To know where severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) originated from and how it jumped into human population, we immediately started a surveillance investigation in wild mammals in and around Wuhan when we determined the agent. Herein, coronaviruses were screened in the lung, liver, and intestinal tissue samples from fifteen raccoon dogs, seven Siberian weasels, three hog badgers, and three Reeves's muntjacs collected in Wuhan and 334 bats collected around Wuhan. Consequently, eight alphacoronaviruses were identified in raccoon dogs, while nine betacoronaviruses were found in bats. Notably, the newly discovered alphacoronaviruses shared a high whole-genome sequence similarity (97.9 per cent) with the canine coronavirus (CCoV) strain 2020/7 sampled from domestic dog in the UK. Some betacoronaviruses identified here were closely related to previously known bat SARS-CoV-related viruses sampled from Hubei province and its neighbors, while the remaining betacoronaviruses exhibited a close evolutionary relationship with SARS-CoV-related bat viruses in the RdRp gene tree and clustered together with SARS-CoV-2-related bat coronaviruses in the M, N and S gene trees, but with relatively low similarity. Additionally, these newly discovered betacoronaviruses seem unlikely to bind angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 because of the deletions in the two key regions of their receptor-binding motifs. Finally, we did not find SARS-CoV-2 or its progenitor virus in these animal samples. Due to the high circulation of CCoVs in raccoon dogs in Wuhan, more scientific efforts are warranted to better understand their diversity and evolution in China and the possibility of a potential human agent.

There is growing evidence that cooking oil fumes (COFs) are harmful indoor air pollutants. However, there is a dearth of research investigating whether maternal COFs exposure during pregnancy may affect children's autistic-like behaviors in China. This study aimed to explore this association, and examine the effects of different cooking fuels and ventilation methods used by mothers on the presence of autistic-like behaviors. This study analyzed the survey data of the Longhua Child Cohort Study in 2017 with a total of 62,372 mothers enrolled in this study. A self-administrative questionnaire was used to collect information on socio-demographic characteristics, cooking habits during pregnancy, and autistic-like behaviors (measured using the Autism Behavior Checklist). After adjusting for potential confounders, the results showed that compared with children whose mothers never cooked during pregnancy, children whose mothers cooked sometimes, often, always during pregnancy had the higher risk of autistic-like behaviors. As the amounts of COFs exposed to and the frequency of cooking during pregnancy increased, the risk of a child's autistic-like behaviors also increased. Mothers using natural gas as cooking fuels had a lower risk of their child having autistic-like behaviors, compared with mothers using coal or other cooking fuels. Furthermore, pregnant women using ventilation measures during cooking significantly decreased likelihood of the presence of autistic-like behaviors in their children. These results suggest that maternal exposure to COFs during pregnancy may increase the likelihood of the presence of autistic-like behaviors in offspring. These findings support a recommendation that pregnant women should avoid exposure to COFs and use clean fuels and ventilation equipment in kitchens to reduce the risk of autistic-like behaviors in children.

Although environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure is considered to be a severe public health problem and a modifiable risk factor for preterm birth (PTB), we still lack a comprehensive understanding of the PTB risk associated with trimester-specific prenatal ETS exposure. This study aimed to examine the accumulation of risk across trimester ETS exposure and the critical window of the association between maternal ETS exposure during pregnancy and PTB. A total of 63,038 mother-child pairs were involved in the analysis of the 2017 survey of Longhua Child Cohort Study. Information about socio-demographic characteristics, prenatal ETS exposure, and birth outcomes were collected using a self-report questionnaire. A series of logistic regression models were employed to assess the associations between prenatal ETS exposure and PTB. We found that maternal ETS exposure during pregnancy significantly increased the risk of PTB and this association increased with both the average level of daily ETS exposure and the number of trimesters of ETS exposure. Moreover, mothers who were initially exposed to ETS in the 1st trimester of pregnancy had significant higher risk of PTB (OR = 1.34, 95% CI: 1.25-1.44). Furthermore, mothers exposed to ETS in the 1st trimester only (OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 1.04-1.50), in both 1st and 2nd trimester (OR = 1.35, 95%CI: 1.08-1.67) and throughout pregnancy (OR = 1.35, 95%CI: 1.24-1.46) experienced a significantly high risk of PTB. Prenatal maternal ETS exposure during only the 2nd trimester also resulted in a high risk of PTB with marginal significance (OR = 1.33, 95% CI:0.78-2.13). To conclude, the 1st and early 2nd trimester might be the critical window for prenatal ETS exposure causing PTB.

Oxide nanosprings have attracted many research interests because of their anticorrosion, high-temperature tolerance, oxidation resistance, and enhanced-mechanic-response from unique helix structures, enabling various applications like nanomanipulators, nanomotors, nanoswitches, sensors, and energy harvesters. However, preparing oxide nanosprings is a challenge for their intrinsic lack of elasticity. Here, an approach for preparing self-assembled, epitaxial, ferroelectric nanosprings with built-in strain due to the lattice mismatch in freestanding La0.7 Sr0.3 MnO3 /BaTiO3 (LSMO/BTO) bilayer heterostructures is developed. It is found that these LSMO/BTO nanosprings can be extensively pulled or pushed up to their geometrical limits back and forth without breaking, exhibiting super-scalability with full recovery capability. The phase-field simulations reveal that the excellent scalability originates from the continuous ferroelastic domain structures, resulting from twisting under co-existing axial and shear strains. In addition, the oxide heterostructural springs exhibit strong resilience due to the limited plastic deformation nature and the built-in strain between the bilayers. This discovery provides an alternative way for preparing and operating functional oxide nanosprings that can be applied to various technologies.
