Bacteria, fungi, and protists occupy a pivotal position in maintaining soil ecology. Despite limited knowledge on their responses to managed vegetation restoration strategies in karst regions, we aimed to study the essential microbial communities involved in the process of vegetation restoration. We compared microbial characteristics in four land use types: planted forests (PF), forage grass (FG), a mixture of plantation forest and forage grass (FF), and cropland (CR) as a reference. Our findings revealed that the richness of bacteria and protists was higher in FF compared to PF, while fungal richness was lower in both PF and FF than in CR. Additionally, the bacterial Shannon index in FF was higher than that in CR and PF, while the fungal and protist Shannon indices were similar across all four land use types. Significant differences were observed in the compositions of bacterial, fungal, and protist communities between FF and the other three land use types, whereas bacterial, fungal, and protist communities were relatively similar in PF and FG. In FF, the relative abundance of bacterial taxa Acidobacteria, Firmicutes, and Gemmatimonadetes was significantly higher than in PF and CR. Fungal communities were dominated by Ascomycota and Basidiomycota, with the relative abundance of Ascomycota significantly higher in FF compared to other land use types. Regarding protistan taxa, the relative abundance of Chlorophyta was higher in FF compared to CR, PF, and FG, while the relative abundance of Apicomplexa was higher in CR compared to FF. Importantly, ammonium nitrogen, total phosphorus, and microbial biomass nitrogen were identified as key soil properties predicting changes in the diversity of bacteria, fungi, and protists. Our results suggest that the microbial community under FF exhibits greater sensitivity to vegetation restoration compared to PF and FG. This sensitivity may stem from differences in soil properties, the formation of biological crusts and root systems, and management activities, resulting in variations in bacterial, fungal, and protist diversity and taxa in PF. As a result, employing a combination restoration strategy involving plantation forest and forage grass proves to be an effective approach to enhance the microbial community and thereby improve ecosystem functionality in ecologically fragile areas.

Background: Fine particulate matter (PM2.5), an important component of ambient air pollution, induces significant adverse health effects. MitoQuinone (MitoQ), a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant, has been reported to play a protective role in various diseases. However, the roles of MitoQ in PM2.5 induced pulmonary toxicity remains to be elucidated. Methods: All the experiments were performed at Higher Educational Key Laboratory for Translational Oncology of Fujian Province, Putian City, China in 2023. Pulmonary epithelial cells (A549) were pretreated with 4 µM MitoQ for 2 h and exposed to PM2.5 for 24 h. Cell viability was tested through CCK8 assay. Oxidative stress state and active mitochondria was used to study MitoQ's effect on PM2.5 induced injury, and cell apoptosis was measured using a flow cytometer and analyzed by Bcl-2 family. Results: MitoQ pretreatment significantly relieved a decreased cell viability, subsequently, MitoQ alleviated ROS production and prevented the reduction of T-AOC and GSH and increased the expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and p62 in A549 cells exposed to PM2.5. MitoQ restored the decreased mitochondrial dysfunction and dynamics disorder and inhibited activated mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis induced by PM2.5. Furthermore, the decreased ratio of Bcl-2/Bax and expression of Mcl-1 and the enhanced expression of Caspase-3 were reversed by MitoQ pretreatment. Conclusion: MitoQ might be regarded as a potential drug to relieve PM2.5 induced pulmonary epithelial cells damage.

What is already known about this topic?: Medication non-adherence significantly impedes smoking cessation efforts. While effective smoking cessation medications are accessible in China, real-world adherence and its correlation with treatment outcomes remain largely unexplored. What is added by this report?: From December 2017 to January 2022, 1,120 participants were recruited from 27 centers in all seven geographical regions of China. Results revealed that only 38.2% of smokers adhered to the prescribed 12-week smoking cessation treatment and those with a higher education level were more likely to be adherent. In addition, smokers with good adherence were more likely to successfully quit smoking. What are the implications for public health practice?: The data obtained could enhance our understanding of smoking cessation practices in China. Improving adherence is a crucial strategy to enhance the effectiveness of smoking cessation treatments and management provided to smokers.

PURPOSE: To explore the application effect of cervical pillow in phacoemulsification surgery for age-related cataract patients. METHODS: 104 cases of age-related cataract patients admitted to our hospital in June 2023 were enrolled and divided into the control group (traditional supine position) and the experimental group (the cervical pillow supine position) by the digital parity method (52 cases per group). The two groups were evaluated for the discomfort score, the satisfaction of patients and doctors, the head displacement rate, the number of displacement, the operation time and the time of body position during the operation and after the operation. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in the gender (P = 0.84), age (P = 0.86), course of disease (P = 0.82) and the time spent on position placement (P = 0.15) of the two groups. The patient in the experimental group had lower discomfort score (P = 0.0001), higher patients satisfaction (P = 0.0001) and higher doctors satisfaction (P = 0.0001) than patients in the control group. There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in the proportion of intraoperative (P = 0.36) and postoperative pain (P = 0.65). Besides, the number of head transfers (P = 0.001), number of head shifts (P = 0.0001), the surgical time (P = 0.0001) and laparoscopic time (P = 0.0001) in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group. CONCLUSION: The additional cervical pillow for age-related cataract patients in the traditional supine position during the operation will not increase the preparation time before the operation, but will help improve the patient satisfaction, improve the comfort and maintain a good position of the operative eye field, bringing obvious comfort and smooth operation for the surgeon in the operation, thus reducing the risk of the operation, shortening the operation time.

Sanghuangprous vaninii is a medicinal macrofungus cultivated extensively in China. Both the mycelia and fruiting bodies of S. vaninii have remarkable therapeutic properties, but it remains unclear whether the mycelia may serve as a substitute for the fruiting bodies. Furthermore, S. vaninii is a perennial fungus with therapeutic components that vary significantly depending on the growing year of the fruiting bodies. Hence, it is critical to select an appropriate harvest stage for S. vaninii fruiting bodies for a specific purpose. With the aid of Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP), metabolomics based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QQQ-MS) was used to preliminarily determine 81 key active metabolites and 157 active pharmaceutical metabolites in S. vaninii responsible for resistance to the six major diseases. To evaluate the substitutability of the mycelia and fruiting bodies of S. vaninii and to select an appropriate harvest stage for the fruiting bodies of S. vaninii, we analyzed the metabolite differences, especially active metabolite differences, among the mycelia and fruiting bodies during three different harvest stages (1-year-old, 2-year-old, and 3-year-old). Moreover, we also determined the most prominent and crucial metabolites in each sample of S. vaninii. These results suggested that the mycelia show promise as a substitute for the fruiting bodies of S. vaninii and that extending the growth year does not necessarily lead to higher accumulation levels of active metabolites in the S. vaninii fruiting bodies. This study provided a theoretical basis for developing and using S. vaninii.

BACKGROUND: Left-right laterality disorders are a heterogeneous group of disorders caused by an altered position or orientation of the thoracic and intra-abdominal organs and vasculature across the left-right axis. They mainly include situs inversus and heterotaxy. Those disorders are complicated by cardiovascular abnormalities significantly more frequently than situs solitus. METHODS: In this study, 16 patients with a fetal diagnosis of laterality disorder with congenital heart defects (CHD) were evaluated with a single nucleotide polymorphism array (SNP-arry) combined with whole-exome sequencing (WES). RESULTS: Although the diagnostic rate of copy number variations was 0 and the diagnostic rate of WES was 6.3% (1/16), the likely pathogenic gene DNAH11 and the candidate gene OFD1 were ultimately identified. In addition, novel compound heterozygous mutations in the DNAH11 gene and novel hemizygous variants in the OFD1 gene were found. Among the combined CHD, a single atrium/single ventricle had the highest incidence (50%, 8/16), followed by atrioventricular septal defects (37.5%, 6/16). Notably, two rare cases of common pulmonary vein atresia (CPVA) were also found on autopsy. CONCLUSION: This study identified the types of CHD with a high incidence in patients with laterality disorders. It is clear that WES is an effective tool for diagnosing laterality disorders and can play an important role in future research.

The forkhead box protein O3 (FOXO3a) belongs to the subgroup O of the forkhead transcription factor family and plays an important role in regulating the aging process by participating in the regulation of various life processes, including cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, autophagy, oxidative stress, and DNA repair. The eye is an organ that is affected by aging earlier. However, the functional role and potential clinical applications of FOXO3a in age-related eye diseases have not received widespread attention and lacked comprehensive and clear clarification. In this review, we demonstrated the relationship between FOXO3a and visual system health, summarized the functional roles of FOXO3a in various eye diseases, and potential ocular-related therapies and drugs targeting FOXO3a in visual system diseases through a review and summary of relevant literature. This review indicates that FOXO3a is an important factor in maintaining the normal function of various tissues in the eye, and is closely related to the occurrence and development of ophthalmic-related diseases. Based on its vital role in the normal function of the visual system, FOXO3a has potential clinical application value in related ophthalmic diseases. At present, multiple molecules and drugs targeting FOXO3a have been reported to have the potential for the treatment of related ophthalmic diseases, but further clinical trials are needed. In conclusion, this review can facilitate us to grasp the role of FOXO3a in the visual system and provide new views and bases for the treatment strategy research of age-related eye diseases.

Inositol hexaphosphate (InsP6) is the major storage form of phosphorus in seeds. Reducing seed InsP6 content is a breeding objective in agriculture, as InsP6 negatively impacts animal nutrition and the environment. Nevertheless, how InsP6 accumulation is regulated remains largely unknown. Here, we identify a clade of receptor-like cytoplasmic kinases (RLCKs), named Inositol Polyphosphate-related Cytoplasmic Kinases 1-6 (IPCK1-IPCK6), deeply involved in InsP6 accumulation. The InsP6 concentration is dramatically reduced in seeds of ipck quadruple (T-4m/C-4m) and quintuple (C-5m) mutants, accompanied with the obviously increase of phosphate (Pi) concentration. The plasma membrane-localized IPCKs recruit IPK1 involved in InsP6 synthesis, and facilitate its binding and activity via phosphorylation of GRF 14-3-3 proteins. IPCKs also recruit IPK2s and PI-PLCs required for InsP4/InsP5 and InsP3 biosynthesis respectively, to form a potential IPCK-GRF-PLC-IPK2-IPK1 complex. Our findings therefore uncover a regulatory mechanism of InsP6 accumulation governed by IPCKs, shedding light on the mechanisms of InsP biosynthesis in eukaryotes.

Multiplex detection can enhance diagnostic precision and improve diagnostic efficiency, providing important assistance for epidemiological investigation and epidemic prevention. There is a great need for multi-detection sensing platforms to accurately diagnose diseases. Herein, we reported a µPAD-based chemiluminescence (CL) assay for ultrasensitive multiplex detection of AIV biomarkers, based on three DNAzyme/Lum/PEI/CaCO3. Three time-resolved CL signals were sequentially generated with detection limits of 0.32, 0.34, and 0.29 pM for H1N1, H7N9, and H5N1, respectively, and with excellent selectivity against interfering DNA. The recovery test in human serum displayed satisfactory analysis capabilities for complex biological samples. The µPAD-based CL assay achieved multiplex detection within 70 s, with a high time resolution of 20 s. The proposed strategy has the advantages of low cost, high sensitivity, good selectivity, and wide time resolution, the µPAD-based CL assay has shown great potential in the early and accurate diagnosis of diseases.

OBJECTIVES: To estimate adolescents and children age using stepwise regression and machine learning methods based on the pulp and tooth volumes of the left maxillary central incisor and cuspid on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, and to compare and analyze the estimation results. METHODS: A total of 498 Shanghai Han adolescents and children CBCT images of the oral and maxillofacial regions were collected. The pulp and tooth volumes of the left maxillary central incisor and cuspid were measured and calculated. Three machine learning algorithms (K-nearest neighbor, ridge regression, and decision tree) and stepwise regression were used to establish four age estimation models. The coefficient of determination, mean error, root mean square error, mean square error and mean absolute error were computed and compared. A correlation heatmap was drawn to visualize and the monotonic relationship between parameters was visually analyzed. RESULTS: The K-nearest neighbor model (R2=0.779) and the ridge regression model (R2=0.729) outperformed stepwise regression (R2=0.617), while the decision tree model (R2=0.494) showed poor fitting. The correlation heatmap demonstrated a monotonically negative correlation between age and the parameters including pulp volume, the ratio of pulp volume to hard tissue volume, and the ratio of pulp volume to tooth volume. CONCLUSIONS: Pulp volume and pulp volume proportion are closely related to age. The application of CBCT-based machine learning methods can provide more accurate age estimation results, which lays a foundation for further CBCT-based deep learning dental age estimation research.

Objective: To explore the association between the Type and approach of hysterectomy and oncological survival of women with stage II cancer of the endometrium. Patients and methods: 684 women with stage II endometrial cancer were included. Eligible cases were grouped by type of hysterectomy (simple hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy)and approach of hysterectomy (laparoscopy or laparotomy). The baseline characteristics were compared among groups. The survival outcomes (disease-free survival and overall survival) were calculated and compared among groups, and the underlying confounding factors were adjusted by the Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. Results: The radical hysterectomy group and the simple hysterectomy group had 217 cases and 467 cases, respectively. Between the groups, the difference in 5-year disease-free survival (87.3% versus 87.9%, HR=0.97, P=0.87) and 5-year overall survival (83.8% versus 83.8%, HR=0.95, P=0.95) was not statistically significant. The laparotomy group and the laparoscopy group had 277 cases and 407 cases, respectively. Between the groups, the difference in 5-year disease-free survival (88.7% versus 87.1%, HR=1.22, P=0.34) and 5-year overall survival (85.5% versus 82.7%, HR=1.00, P=0.99) was not statistically significant. Conclusion: For long-term oncological survival, radical hysterectomy is not superior to total hysterectomy in stage II endometrial cancer. Also, for stage II cancer of the endometrium, laparoscopic hysterectomy is as oncologically safe as open hysterectomy.

BACKGROUND: Although electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is highly sensitive in the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary nodules (PPNs), its diagnostic yield for subgroups of smaller PPNs is under evaluation. OBJECTIVES: Diagnostic yield evaluation of biopsy using ENB for PPNs <2 cm. DESIGN: The diagnostic yield, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of the ENB-mediated biopsy for PPNs were evaluated. METHODS: Patients who had PPNs with diameters <2 cm and underwent ENB-mediated biopsy between May 2015 and February 2020 were consecutively enrolled. The final diagnosis was made via pathological examination after surgery. RESULTS: A total of 82 lesions from 65 patients were analyzed. The median tumor size was 11 mm. All lesions were subjected to ENB-mediated biopsy, of which 29 and 53 were classified as malignant and benign, respectively. Subsequent segmentectomy, lobectomy, or wedge resection, following pathological examinations were performed on 64 nodules from 57 patients. The overall sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for nodules <2 cm were 53.3%, 91.7%, 92.3%, and 51.2%, respectively. The receiver operating curve showed an area under the curve of 0.721 (p < 0.001). Additionally, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were 62.5%, 100%, 100%, and 42.9%, respectively, for nodules with diameters equal to or larger than 1 cm; and 30.8%, 86.7%, 66.7%, and 59.1%, respectively, for nodules less than 1 cm. In the subgroup analysis, neither the lobar location nor the distance of the PPNs to the pleura affected the accuracy of the ENB diagnosis. However, the spiculated sign had a negative impact on the accuracy of the ENB biopsy (p = 0.010). CONCLUSION: ENB has good specificity and positive predictive value for diagnosing PPNs <2 cm; however, the spiculated sign may negatively affect ENB diagnostic accuracy. In addition, the diagnostic reliability may only be limited to PPNs equal to or larger than 1 cm.

Lanthanide doped multicolor luminescent materials have attracted extensive attention due to their advanced anti-counterfeiting properties. However, designing a simple, hard-to-copy and multicolor anti-counterfeiting strategy based on upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) remains a huge challenge. Herein, a strategy to modulate luminescence color by altering the mediating action of Tm3+ was proposed. As a proof of concept, the mediating action of Tm3+ was explored in NaYbF4:30%Er,1%Tm@NaYF4 by changing the doping ratio of Yb3+/Er3+/Tm3+, and red, yellow and blue luminescence was successfully obtained. Then, NaYbF4:x%Er,1%Tm@NaYF4 (x = 2, 10, 30, 50, 99), NaYbF4:x%Er@NaYF4 (x = 2, 10, 30, 50, 100) and NaYbF4:1%Tm@NaYF4:x%Er@NaYF4 (x = 2, 10, 30, 50, 100) were synthesized to further identify that the mediating action of Tm3+ was related to the doping ratio and distance between dopant ions. In addition, the luminescence color of NaYbF4:30%Er,1%Tm@NaYF4 changed from red to yellow with the increase of excitation power density. Based on the above, NaYbF4:Er,Tm@NaYF4 UCNPs show excellent performance in anti-counterfeiting of paintings, thus revealing their great potential in advanced anti-counterfeiting applications.

Phosphodiesterase 8 (PDE8), as a member of PDE superfamily, specifically promotes the hydrolysis and degradation of intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which may be associated with pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, little is currently known about potential role in the central nervous system (CNS). Here we investigated the distribution and expression of PDE8 in brain of mouse, which we believe can provide evidence for studying the role of PDE8 in CNS and the relationship between PDE8 and AD. Here, C57BL/6J mice were used to observe the distribution patterns of two subtypes of PDE8, PDE8A and PDE8B, in different sexes in vivo by western blot (WB). Meanwhile, C57BL/6J mice were also used to demonstrate the distribution pattern of PDE8 in selected brain regions and localization in neural cells by WB and multiplex immunofluorescence staining. Furthermore, the triple transgenic (3×Tg-AD) mice and wild type (WT) mice of different ages were used to investigate the changes of PDE8 expression in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex during the progression of AD. PDE8 was found to be widely expressed in multiple tissues and organs including heart, kidney, stomach, brain, and liver, spleen, intestines, and uterus, with differences in expression levels between the two subtypes of PDE8A and PDE8B, as well as two sexes. Meanwhile, PDE8 was widely distributed in the brain, especially in areas closely related to cognitive function such as cerebellum, striatum, amygdala, cerebral cortex, and hippocampus, without differences between sexes. Furthermore, PDE8A was found to be expressed in neuronal cells, microglia and astrocytes, while PDE8B is only expressed in neuronal cells and microglia. PDE8A expression in the hippocampus of both female and male 3×Tg-AD mice was gradually increased with ages and PDE8B expression was upregulated only in cerebral cortex of female 3×Tg-AD mice with ages. However, the expression of PDE8A and PDE8B was apparently increased in both cerebral cortex and hippocampus in both female and male 10-month-old 3×Tg-AD mice compared WT mice. These results suggest that PDE8 may be associated with the progression of AD and is a potential target for its prevention and treatment in the future.

Lavender, an aromatic plant with a history dating back to ancient Egypt and Greece, is consumed because of its diverse pharmacological properties, including sedation, sleep aid, and antidepressant effects. However, the mechanisms underlying these antidepressant properties remain unclear. In this study, we explored the impact of lavender essential oil (LEO) inhalation on the diversity of gut microbiota, metabolites, and differential gene expression in the hippocampus of alcohol-withdrawn depressive rats. Additionally, we examined alterations in the hippocampal transient receptor potential (TRP) channel-mediated inflammatory regulation within the brain-gut axis of depressive rats. The results demonstrated a significant decrease in sucrose preference, diminished activity in the central zone of the open field test, and prolonged immobility time in the forced swim test in alcohol-withdrawn depressive rats, indicating the amelioration of depressive states following lavender essential oil inhalation. 16 S rDNA sequencing analysis revealed a significant reduction in Bacteroidota and Muribaculaceae in the gut of alcohol-withdrawn depressive rats, whereas lavender essential oil significantly increased the relative abundance of Muribaculaceae and other bacterial species. Metabolomic analysis identified 646 distinct metabolites as highly correlated biomarkers between the model and lavender essential oil groups. Furthermore, lavender essential oil inhalation significantly attenuated hippocampal inflammatory factors IL-2, IL-6, IL-1ß, and TNF-α. This study identified elevated expression of Trpv4 and Calml4 in the hippocampal region of alcohol-withdrawn depressed rats and showed that lavender essential oil inhalation regulated aberrantly expressed genes. Our research suggests that lavender essential oil downregulates Trpv4, modulates inflammatory factors, and alleviates depressive-like behavior in alcohol withdrawal rats.

Potassium-sulfur (K-S) batteries are one of the promising high-energy-density candidates beyond current lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, in practice, the utilization of K-S batteries is largely hindered due to the dissolution and shuttle effect of the cathode redox intermediates and the scarcity of an effective anode protection layer in conventional electrolytes. Herein, electrolyte engineering is applied to formulate an ether-based localized high-concentration electrolyte (LHCE) for the first time in a K-S cell with the mitigated parasitic effect of polysulfide dissolution and shuttle and the tuned anode-electrolyte interface property. A nonsolvating and polysulfide-stable fluoroether is sieved as a cosolvent in such an LHCE, which possesses the ultralow polysulfides solubility due to less roaming solvents and thus alleviates the polysulfides shuttle effect. The anion-derived solid electrolyte interphase enriched in inorganic components is constructed due to the strengthened cation-anion interplay in the primary solvation sheath and highlighted with accelerated interfacial kinetics in a K-S cell. It is validated that the proposed LHCE unlocks the theoretical capacity of the K-S cell based on the conversion between S and K2S3. It is further revealed that the lifespan is limited to the anode corrosion with severe cosolvent degradation caused by limited solvating solvent compatibility with metallic K, and the inevitable byproduct accumulation at the S cathode. The K-S cell based on the designed LHCE could achieve a prolonged lifespan with a reversible capacity of 448 mA h/gs after 80 cycles with an elaborate cathode design. This work shines a light on the electrolyte design perspective for full utilization and an in-depth mechanistic understanding of high-energy-density K-S batteries.

Background: Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a minimally invasive technique for biopsy of lung, peri-pulmonary tissue and lymph nodes under real-time ultrasound-guided biopsy. It is used in the diagnosis and/or staging of benign and malignant pulmonary and non-pulmonary diseases. Our study is based on a large sample size, in a diversified population which provides a representative real-world cohort for analysis. Methods: Patients who underwent EBUS-TBNA procedure between September 2019 and August 2022 were included in this retrospective study. For cases diagnosed as benign and unclassified lesions by EBUS-TBNA, the final diagnosis was determined by further invasive surgery or a combination of therapy and clinical follow-up for at least 6 months. Results: A total of 618 patients were included in the study, including 182 females (29.4%) and 436 males (70.6%). The mean age of all patients was 61.9 ± 10.5 years. These patients were successfully punctured by EBUS-TBNA to obtain pathological results. The pathological diagnosis results of EBUS-TBNA were compared with the final clinical diagnosis results as follows: 133 cases (21.5%) of benign lesions and 485 cases (78.5%) of malignant lesions were finally diagnosed. Among them, the pathological diagnosis was obtained by EBUS-TBNA in 546 patients (88.3%) (464 malignant lesions and 82 benign conditions), while EBUS-TBNA was unable to define diagnosis in 72 patients (11.6%). 20/72 non-diagnostic EBUS-TBNA were true negative. The overall diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of EBUS-TBNA were 91.3%, 100%, 100%, 27.8%, and 91.6% [95% confidence interval (CI): 89.1-93.6%], respectively. In this study, only one case had active bleeding without serious complications during the EBUS-TBNA procedure. Conclusion: Given its low invasiveness, high diagnostic accuracy, and safety, EBUS-TBNA is worth promoting in thoracic lesions.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of hypertensive heart disease (HHD) is high and there is currently no easy way to detect early HHD. Explore the application of radiomics using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) non-enhanced cine sequences in diagnosing HHD and latent cardiac changes caused by hypertension. METHODS: 132 patients who underwent CMR scanning were divided into groups: HHD (42), hypertension with normal cardiac structure and function (HWN) group (46), and normal control (NOR) group (44). Myocardial regions of the end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic (ES) phases of the CMR short-axis cine sequence images were segmented into regions of interest (ROI). Three feature subsets (ED, ES, and ED combined with ES) were established after radiomic least absolute shrinkage and selection operator feature selection. Nine radiomic models were built using random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and naive Bayes. Model performance was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curves, and metrics like accuracy, area under the curve (AUC), precision, recall, and specificity. RESULTS: The feature subsets included first-order, shape, and texture features. SVM of ED combined with ES achieved the highest accuracy (0.833), with a macro-average AUC of 0.941. AUCs for HHD, HWN, and NOR identification were 0.967, 0.876, and 0.963, respectively. Precisions were 0.972, 0.740, and 0.826; recalls were 0.833, 0.804, and 0.863, respectively; and specificities were 0.989, 0.863, and 0.909, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Radiomics technology using CMR non-enhanced cine sequences can detect early cardiac changes due to hypertension. It holds promise for future use in screening for latent cardiac damage in early HHD.
