Several investigators have reported that sarcopenia is common in patients with liver cirrhosis. However, few studies have probed the association between sarcopenia and liver cirrhosis complicated with oesophageal and gastric variceal bleeding (LC-EGVB). We aimed to investigate the impact of sarcopenia on rebleeding after endoscopic therapy in patients with LC-EGVB. Computed tomography (CT) radiographs from the third lumbar vertebra were selected to analyse body composition, including skeletal muscle tissue, visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue using SliceOmatic software. Sarcopenia was defined using validated cutoff values for patients with liver cirrhosis: 44.77 cm2/m2 for men and 32.50 cm2/m2 for women. A total of 187 patients with LC-EGVB and 309 controls were included in this study. The rate of sarcopenia in controls (17.4%) was significantly lower than that in patients with LC-EGVB (41.2%). Patients with LC-EGVB exhibiting sarcopenia showed a high prevalence of portal vein thrombosis and rebleeding rate at 1 year. The rate of sarcopenia in the rebleeding group was significantly higher than that in the non-rebleeding group. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that sarcopenia was an independent risk factor for rebleeding within 1 year in patients with LC-EGVB. Patients with LC-EGVB displayed a high prevalence of sarcopenia. Sarcopenia was observed to be an independent risk factor for rebleeding within 1 year.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer, encompassing squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC), presents a considerable risk to the well-being of women. Recent studies have reported that squalene epoxidase (SQLE) is overexpressed in several cancers, which contributes to cancer development. METHODS: RNA sequencing data for SQLE were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas. In vitro experiments, including colorimetry, colony formation, Transwell, RT-qPCR, and Western blotting were performed. Furthermore, a transplanted CESC nude mouse model was constructed to validate the tumorigenic activity of SQLE in vivo. Associations among the SQLE expression profiles, differentially expressed genes (DEGs), immune infiltration, and chemosensitivity were examined. The prognostic value of genetic changes and DNA methylation in SQLE were also assessed. RESULTS: SQLE mRNA expression was significantly increased in CESC. ROC analysis revealed the strong diagnostic ability of SQLE toward CESC. Patients with high SQLE expression experienced shorter overall survival. The promotional effects of SQLE on cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, cholesterol synthesis, and EMT were emphasized. DEGs functional enrichment analysis revealed the signaling pathways and biological processes. Notably, a connection existed between the SQLE expression and the presence of immune cells as well as the activation of immune checkpoints. Increased SQLE expressions exhibited increased chemotherapeutic responses. SQLE methylation status was significantly associated with CESC prognosis. CONCLUSION: SQLE significantly affects CESC prognosis, malignant behavior, cholesterol synthesis, EMT, and immune infiltration; thereby offering diagnostic and indicator roles in CESC. Thus, SQLE can be a novel therapeutic target in CESC treatment.

The OAS-RNase L pathway is one of the oldest innate RNA sensing pathways that leads to interferon (IFN) signaling and cell death. OAS recognizes viral RNA and then activates RNase L, which subsequently cleaves both cellular and viral RNA, creating "processed RNA" as an endogenous ligand that further triggers RIG-I-like receptor signaling. However, the IFN response and antiviral activity of the OAS-RNase L pathway are weak compared to other RNA-sensing pathways. Here, we discover that the SKIV2L RNA exosome limits the antiviral capacity of the OAS-RNase L pathway. SKIV2L-deficient cells exhibit remarkably increased interferon responses to RNase L-processed RNA, resulting in heightened antiviral activity. The helicase activity of SKIV2L is indispensable for this function, acting downstream of RNase L. SKIV2L depletion increases the antiviral capacity of OAS-RNase L against RNA virus infection. Furthermore, SKIV2L loss exacerbates autoinflammation caused by human OAS1 gain-of-function mutations. Taken together, our results identify SKIV2L as a critical barrier to OAS-RNase L-mediated antiviral immunity that could be therapeutically targeted to enhance the activity of a basic antiviral pathway.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the correlation between different dominant follicle proportions (DFPs) and outcomes of in-vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) among patients classified under POSEIDON Groups 3 and 4, who underwent gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocols. Additionally, it sought to determine the optimal DFP threshold for trigger timing. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on patients classified under POSEIDON Groups 3 (n = 593) and 4 (n = 563) who underwent GnRH-ant protocols for controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) between 2016 and 2022. These patients were categorized into two groups based on their DFPs, defined as the ratio of ≥ 18-mm dominant follicles to ≥ 12-mm follicles on the trigger day (DFP ≤ 40% and DFP ≥ 40%). Statistical analyses, including restricted cubic spline (RCS) and multivariate logistic regression, were employed to assess the relationship between DFP and IVF/ICSI outcomes. RESULTS: Demographic characteristics of patients were similar across groups. In POSEIDON Groups 3 and 4, DFP > 40 was associated with a significant decrease in the number (No.) of oocytes retrieved, cleaved embryos, and available embryos. Moreover, following the GnRH-ant cycle, the clinical pregnancy and live birth rates in fresh embryo transfer (ET) were notably reduced in the DFP > 40 group compared with the DFP ≤ 40 group, whereas no significant differences were observed in the pregnancy outcomes of the first frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) between the groups. In POSEIDON Group 3, the cumulative clinical pregnancy rate (CCPR) and cumulative live birth rate (CLRB) were significantly higher in the DFP ≤ 40 subgroup than in the DFP > 40 subgroup, with a notable decrease in CLRB observed with increasing DFP levels. However, in POSEIDON Group 4, no significant differences in CCPR and CLRB were found between the groups. Logistic regression analysis identified age and the No. of oocytes retrieved as pivotal factors influencing CLRB in Group 4. CONCLUSION: For patients in POSEIDON Group 3, maintaining a DFP ≤ 40 mm is crucial to achieve optimal laboratory and pregnancy outcomes by avoiding delayed triggering. However, for patients in POSEIDON Group 4, age remains a critical factor influencing CLRB regardless of DFP, although a higher No. of oocytes retrieved and available embryos with DFP ≤ 40 is beneficial.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of cholecystolithiasis is on the rise. Use of information, motivation, and behavioral skills can play a positive role in promoting changes in individual health behaviors. However, reports on the effects of information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model based high-quality nursing as a perioperative nursing intervention for patients with gallstones are nonexistent. AIM: To explore the application of IMB skills model based high-quality nursing in patients with gallstones. METHODS: Two hundred and sixteen patients with cholecystolithiasis treated at our hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were enrolled and divided into a control, high-quality, and combined nursing groups, with 72 patients in each group. The control, high-quality, and combination groups received conventional, high-quality, and IMB skills model based perioperative nursing services, respectively. Differences in clinical indicators, stress levels, degree of pain, emotional state, and quality of life were observed, and complications and nursing satisfaction among the three groups were evaluated. RESULTS: After nursing, the time to recovery of gastrointestinal function in the high-quality and combined nursing groups was significantly shorter than that of the control group, with the recovery of gastrointestinal function being the fastest in the combined nursing group (P < 0.05). After nursing intervention, cortisol and norepinephrine levels in the high-quality and combined nursing groups were closer to normal than those of the control group 24 h after surgery, with the combined nursing group having the closest to normal levels (P < 0.05). After 3 and 7 d of intervention, the patients' pain significantly improved, which was more prominent in the high-quality and combination groups. Meanwhile, the pain score in the combination group was significantly lower than those of the control and high-quality nursing groups (P < 0.05). After nursing intervention, the emotional states of all patients improved, and the scores of patients in the combination group were significantly lower than those of the control and high-quality nursing groups. The quality of life of patients in the high-quality and combined nursing groups significantly improved after nursing intervention compared to that of the control group, with the combined nursing group having the highest quality of life score. After intervention, the incidence of complications in the high-quality and combination groups was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05), but the difference between the combination and high-quality nursing groups was not significant. Nursing satisfaction of patients in the high-quality and combination groups was significantly higher than that of the control group, with the nursing satisfaction being the highest in the combination group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: IMB skills model based nursing can improve surgical stress levels, degrees of pain, emotional state, quality of life, and nursing satisfaction of patients with gallstones and reduce the incidence of complications.

In this study, peptides designed using fragments of an antifreeze protein (AFP) from the freeze-tolerant insect Tenebrio molitor, TmAFP, were evaluated as inhibitors of clathrate hydrate formation. It was found that these peptides exhibit inhibitory effects by both direct and indirect mechanisms. The direct mechanism involves the displacement of methane molecules by hydrophobic methyl groups from threonine residues, preventing their diffusion to the hydrate surface. The indirect mechanism is characterized by the formation of cylindrical gas bubbles, the morphology of which reduces the pressure difference at the bubble interface, thereby slowing methane transport. The transfer of methane to the hydrate interface is primarily dominated by gas bubbles in the presence of antifreeze peptides. Spherical bubbles facilitate methane migration and potentially accelerate hydrate formation; conversely, the promotion of a cylindrical bubble morphology by two of the designed systems was found to mitigate this effect, leading to slower methane transport and reduced hydrate growth. These findings provide valuable guidance for the design of effective peptide-based inhibitors of natural-gas hydrate formation with potential applications in the energy and environmental sectors.

The electron extraction from perovskite/C60 interface plays a crucial role in influencing the photovoltaic performance of inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, we develop a one-stone-for-three-birds strategy via employing a novel fullerene derivative bearing triple methyl acrylate groups (denoted as C60-TMA) as a multifunctional interfacial layer to optimize electron extraction at the perovskite/C60 interface. It is found that the C60-TMA not only passivates surface defects of perovskite via coordination interactions between C=O groups and Pb2+ cations but also bridge electron transfer between perovskite and C60. Moreover, it effectively induces the secondary grain growth of the perovskite film through strong bonding effect, and this phenomenon has never been observed in prior art reports on fullerene related studies. The combination of the above three upgrades enables improved perovskite film quality with increased grain size and enhanced crystallinity. With these advantages, C60-TMA treated PSC devices exhibit a much higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.89% than the control devices (23.66%). Besides, C60-TMA benefits improved thermal stability of PSC devices, retaining over 90% of its initial efficiency after aging at 85 °C for 1200 h, primarily due to the reinforced interfacial interactions and improved perovskite film quality.

The cytoplasmic peptide:N-glycanase (NGLY1) is ubiquitously expressed and functions as a de-N-glycosylating enzyme that degrades misfolded N-glycosylated proteins. NGLY1 deficiency due to biallelic loss-of-function NGLY1 variants is an ultrarare autosomal recessive deglycosylation disorder with multisystemic involvement; the neurological manifestations represent the major disease burden. Currently, there is no treatment for this disease. To develop a gene therapy, we first characterized a tamoxifen-inducible Ngly1 knock-out (iNgly1) C57BL/6J mouse model, which exhibited symptoms recapitulating human disease, including elevation of the biomarker GlcNAc-Asn (GNA), motor deficits, kyphosis, Purkinje cell loss, and gait abnormalities. We packaged a codon-optimized human NGLY1 transgene cassette into two adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsids, AAV9 and AAV.PHPeB. Systemic administration of the AAV.PHPeB vector to symptomatic iNgly1 mice corrected multiple disease features at eight weeks post-treatment. Furthermore, another cohort of AAV.PHPeB-treated iNgly1 mice were monitored over a year, and showed near-complete normalization of the neurological aspects of the disease phenotype, demonstrating the durability of gene therapy. Our data suggested that brain-directed NGLY1 gene replacement via systemic delivery is a promising therapeutic strategy for NGLY1 deficiency. Although the superior CNS tropism of AAV.PHPeB vector does not translate to primate, emerging AAV capsids with enhanced primate CNS tropism will enable future translational studies.

Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharides (LBP) can benefit lipid parameters such as total cholesterol, triglyceride, and high-density lipoprotein levels and upregulate the level of Firmicutes, increase the diversity of gut microbiota and reduce metabolic disorders, finally relieving weight gain of obese rats. But it cannot reverse the outcome of obesity. Over 30 differential metabolites and four pathways are altered by LBP.

Fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4), poses a significant threat to banana production globally, thereby necessitating effective biocontrol methods to manage this devastating disease. This study investigates the potential of Bacillus siamensis strain JSZ06, isolated from smooth vetch, as a biocontrol agent against Foc TR4. To this end, we conducted a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate the antifungal activity of strain JSZ06 and its crude extracts. Additionally, genomic analyses were performed to identify antibiotic synthesis genes, while metabolomic profiling was conducted to characterize bioactive compounds. The results demonstrated that strain JSZ06 exhibited strong inhibitory activity against Foc TR4, significantly reducing mycelial growth and spore germination. Moreover, scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed substantial ultrastructural damage to Foc TR4 mycelia treated with JSZ06 extracts. Genomic analysis identified several antibiotic synthesis genes, and metabolomic profiling revealed numerous antifungal metabolites. Furthermore, in pot trials, the application of JSZ06 fermentation broth significantly enhanced banana plant growth and reduced disease severity, achieving biocontrol efficiencies of 76.71% and 79.25% for leaves and pseudostems, respectively. In conclusion, Bacillus siamensis JSZ06 is a promising biocontrol agent against Fusarium wilt in bananas, with its dual action of direct antifungal activity and plant growth promotion underscoring its potential for integrated disease management strategies.

Results of measurable residual disease (MRD)-testing by next-generation sequencing (NGS) correlate with relapse risk in adults with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) receiving chemotherapy or an allotransplant from a human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-identical relative or HLA-matched unrelated donor. We studied cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR) and survival prediction accuracy using a NGS-based MRD-assay targeting immunoglobulin genes after 2 courses of consolidation chemotherapy cycles in 93 adults with B-cell ALL most receiving HLA-haplotype-matched related transplants. Prediction accuracy was compared with MRD-testing using multi-parameter flow cytometry (MPFC). NGS-based MRD-testing detected residual leukemia in 28 of 65 subjects with a negative MPFC-based MRD-test. In Cox regression multi-variable analyses subjects with a positive NGS-based MRD-test had a higher 3-year CIR (Hazard Ratio [HR] = 3.37; 95 % Confidence Interval [CI], 1.34-8.5; P = 0.01) and worse survival (HR = 4.87 [1.53-15.53]; P = 0.007). Some data suggest a lower CIR and better survival in NGS-MRD-test-positive transplant recipients but allocation to transplant was not random. Our data indicate MRD-testing by NGS is more accurate compared with testing by MPFC in adults with B-cell ALL in predicting CIR and survival. External interfaces, such as the air-water and solid-liquid interfaces, are ubiquitous in nature. Hydrophobic interactions are considered the fundamental driving force in many physical and chemical processes occurring in aqueous solutions. It is important to understand the effects of external interfaces on hydrophobic interactions. According to the structural studies on liquid water and the air-water interface, the external interface primarily affects the structure of the topmost water layer (interfacial water). Therefore, an external interface may affect hydrophobic interactions. The effects of interfaces on hydrophobicity are related not only to surface molecular polarity but also to the geometric characteristics of the external interface, such as shape and surface roughness. This study is devoted to understanding the effects of a smooth interface on hydrophobicity. Due to hydrophobic interactions, the solutes tend to accumulate at external interfaces to maximize the hydrogen bonding of water. Additionally, these can be demonstrated by the calculated potential mean forces (PMFs) using molecular dynamic (MD) simulations.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a population pharmacokinetic (PPK) model of oral olanzapine in pediatric Chinese patients in order to individualize therapy in this population. METHODS: A total of 897 serum concentrations from 269 pediatric patients taking oral olanzapine (ages 8-17 years) were collected. Demographic parameters, biological characteristics and concomitant medications were investigated as covariates. The data were analyzed using a nonlinear mixed-effects modeling approach. Bootstrapping (1000 runs), normalized prediction distribution error (NPDE), and external validation of 62 patients were employed. Simulations were performed to explore the individualized dosing regimens in various situations. RESULTS: The one-compartment model with first-order absorption and elimination had an apparent clearance (CL/F) of 10.38 L/h, a distribution volume (V/F) of 9.41 L/kg and an absorption rate constant (Ka) fixed at 0.3 h-1. The equation was CL∕F (L∕h) = 10.38 × (body weight∕60)0.25 ×1.33 (if male) × 0.71 (if co-occurrence of infection) × 0.51 (if co-therapy with fluvoxamine) × 1.27 (if co-therapy with sertraline) × 1.43 (if co-therapy with valproate). The final model had satisfactory stability, robustness, and predictive ability. The results from a simulation suggested the oral olanzapine doses required for male and female pediatric patients weighing between 40 and 60 kg without co-medication were 10-15 mg/day and 7.5-10 mg/day, respectively, and dosage adjustments should be based on sex and body weight; and co-administrated with valproate, sertraline, or fluvoxamine. RESUMEN

Due to persistent inflammation and oxidative stress reactions, achieving drug absorption in diabetic wounds is challenging. To overcome this problem, our article presents a composite hydrogel, GelMA-GA/DMOG@GDNP, which consists of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) treated with gallic acid (GA) and encapsulating ginseng-derived nanoparticles (GDNPs) loaded with dimethyloxallyl glycine (DMOG). The composite hydrogel demonstrates excellent biocompatibility. In laboratory settings, the hydrogel inhibits the production of nitric oxide synthase 2 (iNOS) in mouse immune cells (RAW264.7 cells), enhances the growth and migration of mouse connective tissue cells (L929 cells) and human endothelial cells (HUVECs), and promotes tube formation in HUVECs. In a rat model of type 1 diabetes-induced wounds, the composite hydrogel attenuates inflammatory reactions, facilitates the formation of fibres and blood vessels, accelerates wound healing, and elucidates specific pathway mechanisms through transcriptome sequencing. Therefore, the GelMA-GA/DMOG@GDNP hydrogel can serve as a safe and efficient wound dressing to regulate the inflammatory response, promote collagen fiber and blood vessel formation, and accelerate wound healing. These findings suggest that utilizing this multifunctional engineered nanoparticle-loaded hydrogel in a clinical setting may be a promising strategy for diabetic wound healing.

BACKGROUND: The present study aims to determine the impact of different cuff diameters on the cuff pressure of endotracheal tubes (ETTs) when the trachea is adequately sealed. METHODS: In the present single-center clinical trial, adult patients who underwent cardiothoracic surgery were assigned to use ETTs from 2 brands (GME and GZW). The primary endpoint comprised of the following: cuff diameter, inner diameter of the ETT, manufacturer, and the number of subjects with tracheal leakage when the cuff pressure was 30 cm H2O. RESULTS: A total of 298 patients were assigned into 2 groups, based on the 2 distinct brands of ETTs: experimental group (n = 122, GME brand) and control group (n = 176, GZW brand). There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics. However, the cuff diameter was significantly smaller in the control group, when compared to the experimental group (P = .001), and the incidence of tracheal leakage was significantly higher in the control group (P = .001). Furthermore, the GME brand ETT had a significantly larger cuff diameter, when compared to the GZW brand ETT. CONCLUSION: The cuff size would mismatch the tracheal area in clinical practice. Therefore, chest computed tomography is recommended to routinely evaluate the tracheal cross-sectional area during anesthesia, in order to ensure the appropriate cuff size selection.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Many children with Wilson's disease are complicated with dyslipidemia. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors for the development of fatty liver disease (FLD) in children with Wilson's disease. METHODS: We evaluated sex, age, weight, the disease course, treatment course, clinical classification, alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, total biliary acid, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, homocysteine, uric acid, fibrinogen (FBG), creatinine, procollagen III N-terminal propeptide, laminin, hyaluronic acid, type IV collagen, and performed receiver operating characteristic curve analysis to investigate the forecast value of individual biochemical predictors and combined predictive indicators to evaluate FLD in Wilson's disease. RESULTS: The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that ALT [odds ratio (OR), 1.011; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.004-1.02; P  = 0.006], uric acid (OR, 1.01; 95% CI, 1.002-1.018; P  = 0.017), FBG (OR, 3.668; 95% CI, 1.145-13.71; P  = 0.037), creatinine (OR, 0.872; 95% CI, 0.81-0.925; P  < 0.001), and laminin (OR, 1.01; 95% CI, 1.002-1.018; P  = 0.017) acted as independent risk factors in Wilson's disease complicated with FLD. The receiver operating characteristic curves for combined predictive indicators demonstrated an area under the curve values of 0.872, which was found to be a significant predictors for FLD in Wilson's disease. CONCLUSIONS: We screened out the most important risk factors, namely ALT, uric acid, creatinine, FBG, and laminin for Wilson's disease complicated with FLD. The joint prediction achieved is crucial for identifying children with Wilson's disease complicated with FLD.

Five new sesquiterpenoids, (4S, 5S, 6S, 7S, 8 R)-5,6-dihydroxy-1-acetoxy-10(14)-en-britannilactone (1), (4S, 5 R, 6S, 7S, 8 R)-5,6-dihydroxy-1-acetoxy-10(14)-en-britannilactone (2), 6-O-propionyl-britannilactone (3), 1ß-hydroxy-3α-acetoxyeudesma-11(13)-en-12,8ß-olide (4) and 1ß,5ß-dihydroxyeudesma-11(13)-en-12,8ß-olide (5), along with twelve known ones were isolated from the flowers of Pentanema britannicum (L.) D.Gut.Larr. Among them, compounds 1 and 2 were stereoisomers which belong to 1,10-seco-eudesmane sesquiterpenoid with rare double bond between C-10 and C-14. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR experiments.

According to our recent studies on hydrophobicity, this work is aimed at understanding the dependence of hydrophobic interactions on the shape of a solute's surface. It has been observed that dissolved solutes primarily affect the structure of interfacial water, which refers to the top layer of water at the interface between the solute and water. As solutes aggregate in a solution, hydrophobic interactions become closely related to the transition of water molecules from the interfacial region to the bulk water. It is inferred that hydrophobic interactions may depend on the shape of the solute surface. To enhance the strength of hydrophobic interactions, the solutes tend to aggregate, thereby minimizing their surface area-to-volume ratio. This also suggests that hydrophobic interactions may exhibit directional characteristics. Moreover, this phenomenon can be supported by calculated potential mean forces (PMFs) using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, where different surfaces, such as convex, flat, or concave, are associated with a sphere. Furthermore, this concept can be extended to comprehend the molecular packing parameter, commonly utilized in studying the self-assembly behavior of amphiphilic molecules in aqueous solutions.

Background: Complex degenerative cervical spondylotic myelopathy (DCM) is characterized by a variety of complex imaging features. The surgical method for DCM remains controversial. This study aimed to examine the correlation between the imaging characteristics of DCM with varying degrees of complexity and the surgical approach and clinical outcome. Methods: A retrospective cohort study involving retrospective data collection was performed. A total of 139 patients with DCM who underwent surgery between January 2015 and January 2018 in the Orthopedics Department of Shanxi Bethune Hospital were divided into 3 groups according to the complexity of imaging features: 18 patients in the mild group, 66 patients in the moderate group, and 55 patients in the severe group. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores were used to compare the effects of neck pain and neural function prior to surgery according to the rate of improvement as of the last follow-up. Routine X-ray films were obtained at the follow-up of 3-6 months. The necessity of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations was determined based on clinical findings and X-ray images. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare groups, the least significant difference (LSD) test was used for multiple comparisons, and the Chi-square test was used to compare classification indicators (imaging manifestations, gender), with P<0.05 being statistically significant. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the primary influencing factors of the JOA recovery rate. Results: In all three groups, JOA and VAS scores at the final follow-up were significantly higher than those before surgery (P<0.001). There were significant differences in the preoperative VAS and JOA scores between any two groups, as well as in the VAS and JOA scores and improvement rates at the last follow-up between the mild group and the moderate group and between the mild group and the severe group (P<0.001). Age, preoperative JOA scores, MRI intramedullary hyperintensity signal, and the degree of spinal cord compression were primarily related to the nervous system recovery rate (P<0.001). Conclusions: Age, MRI intramedullary hyperintensity signal, degree of spinal cord compression, and other variables were associated with the improvement of neural function in patients with DCM. Therefore, in addition to the JOA improvement rate or VAS score, additional factors, such as the patient's condition, the improvement in quality of life, and the patient's financial capacity, should be considered in evaluating the improvement of postoperative neck pain and neural function.
