RESUMEN

Purpose: Oxycodone is a potent µ- and κ-opioid receptor agonist that can relieve both somatic and visceral pain. We assessed oxycodone- vs sufentanil-based multimodal analgesia on postoperative pain following major laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery. Methods: In this randomised double-blind controlled trial, 40 adult patients were randomised (1:1, stratified by type of surgery) to receive oxycodone- or sufentanil-based multimodal analgesia, comprising bilateral transverse abdominis plane blocks, intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion, flurbiprofen axetil, and oxycodone- or sufentanil-based patient-controlled analgesia. The co-primary outcomes were time-weighted average (TWA) of visceral pain (defined as intra-abdominal deep and dull pain) at rest and on coughing during 0-24 h postoperatively, assessed using the numerical rating scale (0-10) with a minimal clinically important difference of 1. Results: All patients completed the study (median age, 64 years; 65% male) and had adequate postoperative pain control. The mean (SD) 24-h TWA of visceral pain at rest was 1.40 (0.77) in the oxycodone group vs 2.00 (0.98) in the sufentanil group (mean difference=-0.60, 95% CI, -1.16 to -0.03; P=0.039). Patients in the oxycodone group had a significantly lower 24-h TWA of visceral pain on coughing (2.00 [0.83] vs 2.98 [1.26]; mean difference=-0.98, 95% CI, -1.66 to -0.30; P=0.006). In the subgroup analyses, the treatment effect of oxycodone vs sufentanil on the co-primary outcomes did not differ in terms of age (18-65 years or >65 years), sex (female or male), or type of surgery (colorectal or gastric). Secondary outcomes (24-h TWA of incisional and shoulder pain, postoperative analgesic usage, rescue analgesia, adverse events, and patient satisfaction) were comparable between groups. Conclusion: For patients undergoing major laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, oxycodone-based multimodal analgesia reduced postoperative visceral pain in a statistically significant but not clinically important manner. Food waste resulting from perishable fruits and vegetables, coupled with the utilization of non-renewable petroleum-based packaging materials, presents pressing challenges demanding resolution. This study addresses these critical issues through the innovative development of a biodegradable functional plastic wrap. Specifically, the proposed solution involves the creation of a κ-carrageenan/carboxymethyl chitosan/arbutin/kaolin clay composite film. This film, capable of rapid in-situ formation on the surfaces of perishable fruits, adeptly conforms to their distinct shapes. The incorporation of kaolin clay in the composite film plays a pivotal role in mitigating water vapor and oxygen permeability, concurrently bolstering water resistance. Accordingly, tensile strength of the composite film experiences a remarkable enhancement, escalating from 20.60 MPa to 34.71 MPa with the incorporation of kaolin clay. The composite film proves its efficacy by preserving cherry tomatoes for an extended period of 9 days at 28 °C through the deliberate delay of fruit ripening, respiration, dehydration and microbial invasion. Crucially, the economic viability of the raw materials utilized in the film, coupled with the expeditious and straightforward preparation method, underscores the practicality of this innovative approach. This study thus introduces an easy and sustainable method for preserving perishable fruits, offering a cost-effective and efficient alternative to petroleum-based packaging materials.

MicroRNA(miRNA) is a class of non-coding small RNA that plays an important role in plant growth, development, and response to environmental stresses. Unlike most miRNAs, which usually target homologous genes across a variety of species, miR827 targets different types of genes in different species. Research on miR827 mainly focuses on its role in regulating phosphate (Pi) homeostasis of plants, however, little is known about its function in plant response to virus infection. In the present study, miR827 was significantly upregulated in the recovery tissue of virus-infected Nicotiana tabacum. Overexpression of miR827 could improve plants resistance to the infection of chilli veinal mottle virus (ChiVMV) in Nicotiana benthamiana, whereas interference of miR827 increased the susceptibility of the virus-infected plants. Further experiments indicated that the antiviral defence regulated by miR827 was associated with the reactive oxygen species and salicylic acid signalling pathways. Then, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase) was identified to be a target of miR827, and virus infection could affect the expression of FBPase. Finally, transient expression of FBPase increased the susceptibility to ChiVMV-GFP infection in N. benthamiana. By contrast, silencing of FBPase increased plant resistance. Taken together, our results demonstrate that miR827 plays a positive role in tobacco response to virus infection, thus providing new insights into understanding the role of miR827 in plant-virus interaction.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of six cases of complex arrhythmias associated with RYR2 gene mutations in children. Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on six children diagnosed with complex arrhythmias associated with RYR2 gene mutations. The study included an analysis of the age of onset, initial symptoms, electrocardiographic characteristics, genetic results, treatment course, and follow-up outcomes. Results: Among the six cases included in the study, there were four males and two females, with an average age of 3.5 ± 0.5 years. The average time from initial symptoms to diagnosis was 2.7 ± 1.3 years. The most common clinical manifestation was syncope, with exercise and emotions being the main triggers. All six children had de novo missense mutations in the RYR2 gene identified through whole-exome sequencing. In Holter electrocardiogram, atrial arrhythmias and sinoatrial node dysfunction were commonly observed in younger children. Four patients underwent exercise stress testing, with two experiencing bidirectional ventricular premature contractions and two experiencing bidirectional ventricular tachycardia and polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. Initial treatment involved oral propranolol or metoprolol. If arrhythmias persisted, flecainide or propafenone was added as adjunctive therapy. Two patients received permanent cardiac pacemaker treatment (single chamber ventricular pacemaker, VVI). All patients survived, with three experiencing occasional syncope during treatment. The follow-up period ranged from 12 to 37 months, with an average follow-up time of 24.3 ± 3.7 months. Conclusion: Complex arrhythmias associated with RYR2 gene mutations in children can present with various clinical manifestations. Atrial arrhythmias combined with sinoatrial node dysfunction are commonly observed in younger children, and the combination of pharmacological therapy and cardiac pacemaker treatment yields favourable treatment outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Central Neurocytoma (CN) is a rare, WHO grade 2 brain tumor that predominantly affects young adults. Gross total resection (GTR) is often curative for CNs, but the optimal treatment paradigm including incorporation of RT, following subtotal resection (STR) and for scarcer pediatric cases has yet to be established. METHODS: Patients between 2001 and 2021 with a pathologic diagnosis of CN were reviewed. Demographic, treatment, and tumor characteristics were recorded. Recurrence free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated according to the Kaplan Meier-method. Post-RT tumor volumetric regression analysis was performed. RESULTS: Seventeen adults (≥ 18 years old) and 5 children (< 18 years old) met the criteria for data analysis (n = 22). With a median follow-up of 6.9 years, there was no tumor-related mortality. Patients who received STR and/or had atypical tumors (using a cut-off of Ki-67 > 4%) experienced decreased RFS compared to those who received GTR and/or were without atypical tumors. RFS at 5 years for typical CNs was 67% compared to 22% for atypical CNs. Every pediatric tumor was atypical and 3/5 recurred within 5 years. Salvage RT following tumor recurrence led to no further recurrences within the timeframe of continued follow-up; volumetric analysis for 3 recurrent tumors revealed an approximately 80% reduction in tumor size. CONCLUSION: We provide encouraging evidence that CNs treated with GTR or with RT after tumor recurrence demonstrate good long-term tumor control.

Background: Growing evidence shows that metabolic syndrome and frailty are significantly associated. Screening and assessing frailty in patients with metabolic syndrome is important to help improve their clinical outcomes and quality of life. Therefore, understanding the prevalence of frailty in patients with metabolic syndrome is the first critical step, however, the prevalence reported in the literature varies widely.Aim: To pool the overall prevalence of frailty among patients with metabolic syndrome.Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Scopus, CINAHL Complete, CNKI, Wan Fang, SinoMed, and VIP databases were searched from the inception to March 6, 2024. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA15 software. The prevalence was pooled using the random-effects model. The sources of heterogeneity were investigated by using meta-regression and subgroup analyses.Results: A total of 22 original studies published between 2007 and 2023 were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis, involving 19,921 metabolic syndrome patients. The prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty among patients with metabolic syndrome was 20% (95% CI: 16% to 25%, I2 = 99.44%) and 45% (95% CI: 36% to 53%, I2 = 99.20%). Subgroup analyses revealed differences in prevalence by frailty instruments, geographic regions, study settings, publication years, study quality, study design, and different components of metabolic syndrome.Conclusions: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed the high prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in patients with metabolic syndrome. In the future, more high-quality longitudinal studies and exploration of other potential demographic characteristics that may influence frailty are needed to understand more information on frailty in patients with metabolic syndrome.

Objectives: As a specific group with high health inequality, it is crucial to improve the health status and health inequalities of rural-to-urban migrant workers. This study aimed to evaluate the health inequality of migrant and urban workers in China and decompose it. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out, using a standardized questionnaire to obtain basic information, self-rated health to evaluate health status, concentration index to measure health inequalities, and WDW decomposition to analyze the causes of health inequalities. Results: The concentration index of health for migrants was 0.021 and 0.009 for urban workers. The main factors contributing to health inequality among rural-to-urban migrant workers included income, exercise, and age. In contrast, the main factors of health inequality among urban workers included income, the number of chronic diseases, social support, and education. Conclusion: There were health inequalities in both rural-to-urban migrant and urban workers. The government and relevant authorities should formulate timely policies and take targeted measures to reduce income disparities among workers, thereby improving health inequality.

Objective: This study aims to compare the changes in the disease spectrum of children admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) during the COVID-19 pandemic with the three years prior to the pandemic, exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the disease spectrum of PICU patients. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on critically ill children admitted to the PICU of Hunan Children's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022, and the results were compared with cases from the same period between January 2017 and December 2019. The cases were divided into pre-pandemic period (January 2017-December 2019) with 8,218 cases, and pandemic period (January 2020-December 2022) with 5,619 cases. General characteristics, age, and gender were compared between the two groups. Results: Compared to the pre-pandemic period, there was a 31.62% decrease in the number of admitted children during the pandemic period, and a 52.78% reduction in the proportion of respiratory system diseases. The overall mortality rate decreased by 87.81%. There were differences in age and gender distribution between the two periods. The length of hospital stay during the pandemic showed no statistical significance, whereas hospitalization costs exhibited statistical significance. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted a certain influence on the disease spectrum of PICU admissions. Implementing relevant measures during the pandemic can help reduce the occurrence of respiratory system diseases in children. Considering the changes in the disease spectrum of critically ill PICU children, future clinical prevention and treatment in PICUs should continue to prioritize the respiratory, neurological, and hematological oncology systems.

The abnormal uric acid (UA) level in urine can serve as warning signals of many diseases, such as gout and metabolic cardiovascular diseases. The current methods for detecting UA face limitations of instrument dependence and the requirement for non-invasiveness, making it challenging to fulfill the need for home-based application. In this study, we designed an aptasensor that combined UA-specific transcriptional regulation and a fluorescent RNA aptamer for convenient urinary UA testing. The concentration of UA can be translated into the intensity of fluorescent signals. The aptasensor showed higher sensitivity and more robust anti-interference performance. UA levels in the urine of different volunteers could be accurately tested using this method. In addition, a paper-based aptasensor for UA self-testing was manufactured, in which the urinary UA levels could be determined using a smartphone-based colorimetric approach. This work not only demonstrates a new approach for the design of disease-associated aptasensor, but also offers promising ideas for home-based detection of UA.

The environmental pollution caused by mineral exploitation and energy consumption poses a serious threat to ecological security and human health, particularly in resource-based cities. To address this issue, a comprehensive investigation was conducted on potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in road dust from different seasons to assess the environmental risks and influencing factors faced by Datong City. Multivariate statistical analysis and absolute principal component score were employed for source identification and quantitative allocation. The geo-accumulation index and improved Nemerow index were utilized to evaluate the pollution levels of PTEs. Monte Carlo simulation was employed to assess the ecological-health risks associated with PTEs content and source orientation. Furthermore, geo-detector and random forest analysis were conducted to examine the key environmental variables and driving factors contributing to the spatiotemporal variation in PTEs content. In all PTEs, Cd, Hg, and Zn exhibited higher levels of content, with an average content/background value of 3.65 to 4.91, 2.53 to 3.34, and 2.15 to 2.89 times, respectively. Seasonal disparities were evident in PTEs contents, with average levels generally showing a pattern of spring (winter) > summer (autumn). PTEs in fine road dust (FRD) were primarily influenced by traffic, natural factors, coal-related industrial activities, and metallurgical activities, contributing 14.9-33.9 %, 41.4-47.5 %, 4.4-8.3 %, and 14.2-29.4 % to the total contents, respectively. The overall pollution and ecological risk of PTEs were categorized as moderate and high, respectively, with the winter season exhibiting the most severe conditions, primarily driven by Hg emissions from coal-related industries. Non-carcinogenic risk of PTEs for adults was within the safe limit, yet children still faced a probability of 4.1 %-16.4 % of unacceptable risks, particularly in summer. Carcinogenic risks were evident across all demographics, with children at the highest risk, mainly due to Cr and smelting industrial sources. Geo-detector and random forest model indicated that spatial disparities in prioritized control elements (Cr and Hg) were primarily influenced by particulate matter (PM10) and anthropogenic activities (industrial and socio-economic factors); variations in particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and meteorological factors (wind speed and precipitation) were the primary controllers of seasonal disparities of Cr and Hg.

There has been no severity evaluation model for pediatric patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) that uses readily available parameters. This study aimed to develop a novel model for predicting the early mortality risk in pediatric patients with HLH using easily obtained parameters whatever etiologic subtype. Patients from one center were divided into training and validation sets for model derivation. The developed model was validated using an independent validation cohort from the second center. The prediction model with nomogram was developed based on logistic regression. The model performance underwent internal and external evaluation and validation using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration curve with 1000 bootstrap resampling, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Model performance was compared with the most prevalent severity evaluation scores, including the PELOD-2, P-MODS, and pSOFA scores. The prediction model included nine variables: glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, albumin, globulin, myohemoglobin, creatine kinase, serum potassium, procalcitonin, serum ferritin, and interval between onset and diagnosis. The AUC of the model for predicting the 28-day mortality was 0.933 and 0.932 in the training and validation sets, respectively. The AUC values of the HScore, PELOD-2, P-MODS and pSOFA were 0.815, 0.745, 0.659 and 0.788, respectively. The DCA of the 28-day mortality prediction exhibited a greater net benefit than the HScore, PELOD-2, P-MODS and pSOFA. Subgroup analyses demonstrated good model performance across HLH subtypes. The novel mortality prediction model in this study can contribute to the rapid assessment of early mortality risk after diagnosis with readily available parameters.

Raw depth images captured in indoor scenarios frequently exhibit extensive missing values due to the inherent limitations of the sensors and environments. For example, transparent materials frequently elude detection by depth sensors; surfaces may introduce measurement inaccuracies due to their polished textures, extended distances, and oblique incidence angles from the sensor. The presence of incomplete depth maps imposes significant challenges for subsequent vision applications, prompting the development of numerous depth completion techniques to mitigate this problem. Numerous methods excel at reconstructing dense depth maps from sparse samples, but they often falter when faced with extensive contiguous regions of missing depth values, a prevalent and critical challenge in indoor environments. To overcome these challenges, we design a novel two-branch end-to-end fusion network named RDFC-GAN, which takes a pair of RGB and incomplete depth images as input to predict a dense and completed depth map. The first branch employs an encoder-decoder structure, by adhering to the Manhattan world assumption and utilizing normal maps from RGB-D information as guidance, to regress the local dense depth values from the raw depth map. The other branch applies an RGB-depth fusion CycleGAN, adept at translating RGB imagery into detailed, textured depth maps while ensuring high fidelity through cycle consistency. We fuse the two branches via adaptive fusion modules named W-AdaIN and train the model with the help of pseudo depth maps. Comprehensive evaluations on NYU-Depth V2 and SUN RGB-D datasets show that our method significantly enhances depth completion performance particularly in realistic indoor settings.

While numerous studies have examined how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected health care systems, supply chains, and economies, we do not understand how the pandemic has impacted the security of democratic and authoritarian states from a global standpoint. Thus, this study examines how COVID-19 has affected the security of democratic and authoritarian regimes. In conducting a historical, qualitative review of the security effects of the pandemic, we find that COVID-19 significantly affected domestic and international security for democratic and authoritarian states in both similar and varied ways. Additionally, the manner in which states responded to the pandemic was often conditioned by their regime type and by the nature of the governing leadership during the pandemic. These findings have important implications in considering how COVID-19 affected the security of democratic and authoritarian states, how regime type shapes government responses to infectious disease outbreaks, and how democratic and authoritarian states may respond to future pandemics.

Micro-Doppler time-frequency analysis has been regarded as an important parameter extraction method for conical micro-motion objects. However, the micro-Doppler effect caused by micro-motion can modulate the frequency of lidar echo, leading to coupling between structure and micro-motion parameters. Therefore, it is difficult to extract parameters for micro-motion cones. We propose a new method for parameter extraction by combining the range profile of a micro-motion cone and the micro-Doppler time-frequency spectrum. This method can effectively decouple and accurately extract the structure and the micro-motion parameters of cones. Compared with traditional time-frequency analysis methods, the accuracy of parameter extraction is higher, and the information is richer. Firstly, the range profile of the micro-motion cone was obtained by using an FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) lidar based on simulation. Secondly, quantitative analysis was conducted on the edge features of the range profile and the micro-Doppler time-frequency spectrum. Finally, the parameters of the micro-motion cone were extracted based on the proposed decoupling parameter extraction method. The results show that our method can effectively extract the cone height, the base radius, the precession angle, the spin frequency, and the gravity center height within the range of a lidar LOS (line of sight) angle from 20° to 65°. The average absolute percentage error can reach below 10%. The method proposed in this paper not only enriches the detection information regarding micro-motion cones, but also improves the accuracy of parameter extraction and establishes a foundation for classification and recognition. It provides a new technical approach for laser micro-Doppler detection in accurate recognition.

Metabolic reprogramming is a defining hallmark of cancer metastasis, warranting thorough exploration. The tumor-promoting function of the "Warburg Effect", marked by escalated glycolysis and restrained mitochondrial activity, is widely acknowledged. Yet, the functional significance of mitochondria-mediated oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) during metastasis remains controversial. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are considered metastatic precursors that detach from primary or secondary sites and harbor the potential to seed distant metastases through hematogenous dissemination. A comprehensive metabolic characterization of CTCs faces formidable obstacles, including the isolation of these rare cells from billions of blood cells, coupled with the complexities of ex vivo-culturing of CTC lines or the establishment of CTC-derived xenograft models (CDX). This review summarized the role of the "Warburg Effect" in both tumorigenesis and CTC-mediated metastasis. Intriguingly, bioinformatic analysis of single-CTC transcriptomic studies unveils a potential OXPHOS dominance over Glycolysis signature genes across several important cancer types. From these observations, we postulate a potential "Anti-Warburg Effect" (AWE) in CTCs-a metabolic shift bridging primary tumors and metastases. The observed AWE could be clinically important as they are significantly correlated with therapeutic response in melanoma and prostate patients. Thus, unraveling dynamic metabolic regulations within CTC populations might reveal an additional layer of regulatory complexities of cancer metastasis, providing an avenue for innovative anti-metastasis therapies.

ABSTRACT: Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) mutations are associated with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) through inheritance or spontaneous occurrence. We detected FGFR1 mutations in a Chinese cohort of 210 CHH patients at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Beijing, China) using next-generation and Sanger sequencing. We assessed missense variant pathogenicity using six bioinformatics tools and compared clinical features and treatment outcomes between inherited and de novo mutation groups. Among 19 patients with FGFR1 mutations, three were recurrent, and 16 were novel variants. Sixteen of the novel mutations were likely pathogenic according to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) guidelines, with the prevalent P366L variant. The majority of FGFR1 mutations was inherited (57.9%), with frameshift mutations exclusive to the de novo mutation group. The inherited mutation group had a lower incidence of cryptorchidism, short stature, and skeletal deformities. In the inherited mutation group, luteinizing hormone (LH) levels were 0.5 IU l-1, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels were 1.0 IU l-1, and testosterone levels were 1.3 nmol l-1. In contrast, the de novo group had LH levels of 0.2 IU l-1, FSH levels of 0.5 IU l-1, and testosterone levels of 0.9 nmol l-1, indicating milder hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPGA) functional deficiency in the inherited group. The inherited mutation group showed a tendency toward higher spermatogenesis rates. In conclusion, this study underscores the predominance of inherited FGFR1 mutations and their association with milder HPGA dysfunction compared to de novo mutations, contributing to our understanding of the genetic and clinical aspects of FGFR1 mutations.

A clear and accurate assessment of depressive symptoms among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in the past five years is essential to help develop reasonable and sound interventions to improve their depressive symptoms. PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, Cochrane, Embase, CINAHL, and APA were searched from 1 January 2017 to 12 April 2022. The data were analyzed using STATA 15 Software to pool the global prevalence of depressive symptoms in PLWHA. Ultimately, 103785 PLWHA from 81 original studies were included. The pooled analysis showed that the global prevalence of depressive symptoms in PLWHA over the past five years was 0.35 (95% CI: 0.31-0.38), with differences in depressive symptoms in PLWHA by geographic location, gender, assessment instruments, alcohol use, smoking, marriage, co-morbid disease, financial situation, and educational level. Scientific and timely public health interventions should be developed among PLWHA to improve their depressive symptoms and thereby improve mental health and clinical outcomes.

Progression occurs in approximately two-thirds of patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) receiving chemoradiation and consolidation immunotherapy. Molecular indicators for outcome prediction are under development. A novel metric, the ratio of mean to max variant allele frequency (mmVAF), was derived from 431 pre-treatment tissue biopsies from The Cancer Genome Atlas and evaluated in serial circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from 70 LA-NSCLC patients receiving definitive radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy (RT/CRT) with/without immunotherapy. High mmVAFs in pre-treatment tissue biopsies, indicating clonal predominant tumors (P < 0.01), were associated with inferior overall survival [OS, hazard ratio (HR): 1.48, 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.11-1.98]. Similar associations of mmVAF with clonality (P < 0.01) and OS (HR: 2.24, 95 % CI: 0.71-7.08) were observed in pre-treatment ctDNA. At 1-month post-RT, ctDNA mmVAF-high patients receiving consolidation immunotherapy exhibited improved progression-free survival (PFS) compared to those who did not (HR: 0.14, 95 % CI: 0.03-0.67). From the baseline to week 4 of RT and/or 1-month post-RT, survival benefits from consolidation immunotherapy were exclusively observed in ctDNA mmVAF-increased patients (PFS, HR: 0.39, 95 % CI: 0.14-1.15), especially in terms of distant metastasis (HR: 0.11, 95 % CI: 0.01-0.95). In summary, our longitudinal data demonstrated the applicability of ctDNA-defined clonality for prognostic stratification and immunotherapy benefit prediction in LA-NSCLC.

The rapid advancement of tumor immunotherapies poses challenges for the tools used in cancer immunology research, highlighting the need for highly effective biomarkers and reproducible experimental models. Current immunotherapy biomarkers encompass surface protein markers such as PD-L1, genetic features such as microsatellite instability, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and biomarkers in liquid biopsy such as circulating tumor DNAs. Experimental models, ranging from 3D in vitro cultures (spheroids, submerged models, air-liquid interface models, organ-on-a-chips) to advanced 3D bioprinting techniques, have emerged as valuable platforms for cancer immunology investigations and immunotherapy biomarker research. By preserving native immune components or coculturing with exogenous immune cells, these models replicate the tumor microenvironment in vitro. Animal models like syngeneic models, genetically engineered models, and patient-derived xenografts provide opportunities to study in vivo tumor-immune interactions. Humanized animal models further enable the simulation of the human-specific tumor microenvironment. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of the advantages, limitations, and prospects of different biomarkers and experimental models, specifically focusing on the role of biomarkers in predicting immunotherapy outcomes and the ability of experimental models to replicate the tumor microenvironment. By integrating cutting-edge biomarkers and experimental models, this review serves as a valuable resource for accessing the forefront of cancer immunology investigation.

Contamination, hazard level and source of 10 widely concerned potentially toxic metal(loid)s (PTMs) Co, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, Ba, and V in fine dust with particle size below 63 µm (FD63) were investigated to assess the environmental quality of college campuses and influencing factors. PTMs sources were qualitatively analyzed using statistical methods and quantitatively apportioned using positive matrix factorization. Probabilistic contamination degrees of PTMs were evaluated using enrichment factor and Nemerow integrated enrichment factor. Eco-health risk levels of content-oriented and source-oriented for PTMs were evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. Mean levels of Zn (643.8 mg kg-1), Pb (146.0 mg kg-1), Cr (145.9 mg kg-1), Cu (95.5 mg kg-1), and Ba (804.2 mg kg-1) in FD63 were significantly larger than soil background values. The possible sources of the concerned PTMs in FD63 were traffic non-exhaust emissions, natural source, mixed source (auto repair waste, paints and pigments) and traffic exhaust emissions, which accounted for 45.7%, 25.4%, 14.5% and 14.4% of total PTMs contents, respectively. Comprehensive contamination levels of PTMs were very high, mainly caused by Zn pollution and non-exhaust emissions. Combined ecological risk levels of PTMs were low and moderate, chiefly caused by Pb and traffic exhaust emissions. The non-cancer risks of the PTMs in FD63 to college students fell within safety level, while the carcinogenic PTMs in FD63 had a certain cancer risks to college students. The results of source-specific health risk assessment indicated that Cr and As were the priority PTMs, and the mixed source was the priority pollution source of PTMs in FD63 from college campuses, which should be paid attention to by the local government.
