RESUMEN

Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is a severe and irreversible blinding eye disease characterized by progressive retinal ganglion cell death. However, prior research has predominantly focused on static brain activity changes, neglecting the exploration of how PACG impacts the dynamic characteristics of functional brain networks. This study enrolled forty-four patients diagnosed with PACG and forty-four age, gender, and education level-matched healthy controls (HCs). The study employed Independent Component Analysis (ICA) techniques to extract resting-state networks (RSNs) from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data. Subsequently, the RSNs was utilized as the basis for examining and comparing the functional connectivity variations within and between the two groups of resting-state networks. To further explore, a combination of sliding time window and k-means cluster analyses identified seven stable and repetitive dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) states. This approach facilitated the comparison of dynamic functional network connectivity and temporal metrics between PACG patients and HCs for each state. Subsequently, a support vector machine (SVM) model leveraging functional connectivity (FC) and FNC was applied to differentiate PACG patients from HCs. Our study underscores the presence of modified functional connectivity within large-scale brain networks and abnormalities in dynamic temporal metrics among PACG patients. By elucidating the impact of changes in large-scale brain networks on disease evolution, researchers may enhance the development of targeted therapies and interventions to preserve vision and cognitive function in PACG.

Swertia Mussotti is used as febrifuge, analgesic and to treat calculous cholecystitis, however, the underling mechanism remains unclear. This study investigates the therapeutic effect of the active fraction named iridoid and xanthone glycoside (IXG) extracted from S. mussotii on six animal models related to calculous cholecystitis and its complications, and to explore its potential target proteins. Four main compounds including swertiamarin (STR), sweroside (SRS), gentiopicroside (GPS) and mangiferin (MGR) were identified from the IXG by UHPLC-TOF-MS. The in vivo experiments results confirmed that IXG significantly decreased the level of total bilirubin (TBIL), direct bilirubin (DBIL) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) in calculous cholecystitis. IXG treatment dramatically reduced the number of twists and the time of clicking foot in 2nd phase induced by glacial acetic acid and formalin, however, no effect was showed on central pain established by hot plate test. IXG also significantly decreased the anal temperature induced by yeast and 2,4-dinitrophenol. These results indicated that IXG alleviate calculous cholecystitis and its clinical symptom. In addition, IXG suppressed the expression of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in vitro. Mechanistically, COX2 was identified as the direct target of IXG in RAW264.7 cells, and downregulated the protein levels of COX2. The results confirmed that IXG ameliorates calculous cholecystitis and its clinical symptom (pain and fever) by suppressing the production of PGE2 through targeting COX2.

This study was to translate the Pieper-Zulkowski pressure ulcer knowledge test (PZ-PUKT) into Traditional Chinese and evaluate its psychometric properties as well as identify the predictors of knowledge on pressure injury. The PZ-PUKT was translated into Traditional Chinese (TC-PZ-PUKT), and its content validity was evaluated. A total of 296 nurses participated in this study and completed the 72-item TC-PZ-PUKT online. The reliability of the TC-PZ-PUKT was analysed by evaluating its internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Hierarchical regression was used to determine factors associated with TC-PZ-PUKT scores. Content validity was achieved with a score of 0.986. Internal consistency was observed to be reliable, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.858. The mean knowledge score on the TC-PZ-PUKT was 72.5%, with a 1-week test-retest reliability of r = 0.849. Education level, certification as a wound specialist and self-learning through reading articles, books or guidelines on pressure injury were significantly associated with TC-PZ-PUKT scores. The TC-PZ-PUKT is a valid and reliable tool. Education level, certification as a wound specialist and self-learning regarding pressure injury are related to knowledge of pressure injury.

Post-stroke patients often experience psychological distress and autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation, impacting their well-being. This study evaluated the effectiveness of heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback on cognitive, motor, psychological, and ANS functions in sixty-two ischemic stroke patients (43 males, mean age = 60.1) at a Medical Center in southern Taiwan. To prevent interaction, we allocated patients to the HRV biofeedback or control (usual care) group based on their assigned rehabilitation days, with 31 patients in each group. Assessments conducted at baseline, three, and six months included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Fugl-Meyer Assessment for Upper Extremities (FMA-UE), Perceived Stress Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scales (HADS), and HRV indices. Mixed-effect models were used to analyze Group by Time interactions. The results revealed significant interactions across all functions. At 3 months, significant improvements in the HRV biofeedback group were observed only in MoCA, FMA-UE, and HADS-depression scores compared to the control group. By 6 months, all measured outcomes demonstrated significant improvements in the biofeedback group relative to the control group. These results suggest that HRV biofeedback may be an effective complementary intervention in post-stroke rehabilitation, warranting further validation.

The electrooxidation of catalyst surfaces is across various electrocatalytic reactions, directly impacting their activity, stability and selectivity. Precisely characterizing the electrooxidation on well-defined surfaces is essential to understanding electrocatalytic reactions comprehensively. Herein, we employed in situ Raman spectroscopy to monitor the electrooxidation process of palladium single crystal. Our findings reveal that the Pd surface's initial electrooxidation process involves forming *OH intermediate and ClO4- ions facilitate the deprotonation process, leading to the formation of PdOx. Subsequently, under deep electrooxidation potential range, the oxygen atoms within PdOx contribute to creating surface-bound peroxide species, ultimately resulting in oxygen generation. The adsorption strength of *OH and the coverage of ClO4- can be adjusted by the controllable electronic effect, resulting in different oxidation rates. This study offers valuable insights into elucidating the electrooxidation mechanisms underlying a range of electrocatalytic reactions, thereby contributing to the rational design of catalysts.

BACKGROUND: Previous findings have revealed that disorders of lipid metabolism may be a risk factor for pulmonary function damage; however, the combined effect of dyslipidemia and central obesity on pulmonary function is unclear. The cardiometabolic index (CMI) is a composite of serum lipids (triglyceride (TG)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)) and visceral fat parameters (waist-to-height ratio (WHtR)). This research aimed to investigate the link between CMI and pulmonary function, employing large-scale demographic data sourced from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used data involving 4125 adults aged 20 and above collected by NHANES between 2007 and 2012. We defined CMI as the exposure variable and measured outcomes using forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and FEV1/FVC to evaluate pulmonary function. Weighted multiple linear regression models and subgroup analyses were employed to investigate separate relationships between CMI and pulmonary function. In addition, to investigate variations across different strata and evaluate the robustness of the findings, interaction tests and sensitivity analyses were conducted. RESULTS: Results from the weighted multiple linear regression analysis indicated a unit increase in log2-CMI was associated with a reduction of 82.63 mL in FEV1 and 112.92 mL in FVC. The negative association remained significant after transforming log2-CMI by quartile (Q). When the log2-CMI level reached Q4, ß coefficients (ß) were -128.49 (95% CI: -205.85, -51.13), -169.01 (95% CI: -266.72, -71.30), respectively. According to the interaction test findings, the negative association linking log2-CMI with FEV1 and FVC persists regardless of confounding factors including age, gender, BMI, physical activity (PA), and smoking status. A subsequent sensitivity analysis provided additional confirmation of the stability and reliability of the results. For females, the inflection points for the nonlinear relationships between log2-CMI and FEV1, as well as log2-CMI and FVC, were identified at 2.33 and 2.11, respectively. While in males, a consistent negative association was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that higher CMI is associated with lower FEV1 and FVC. CMI may serve as a complementary consideration to the assessment and management of pulmonary function in clinical practice.

The function of the Trihelix transcription factor is that it plays an important role in many abiotic stresses, especially in the signaling pathway of low temperature, drought, flood, saline, abscisic acid, methyl jasmonate, and other abiotic stresses. However, there are few studies on the Trihelix gene family of ginseng. In this study, 41 Trihelix gene family members were identified and screened from the ginseng genome database, and their physicochemical properties, cis-acting elements, subcellular localization, chromosomal assignment, and abiotic stress-induced expression patterns were analyzed by bioinformatics methods. The results showed that 85% of Trihelix family members of ginseng were located in the nucleus, and the main secondary structure of Trihelix protein was random coil and α helix. In the promoter region of Trihelix, cis-acting regulatory elements related to various abiotic stresses such as low temperature, hormone response, and growth and development were identified. Through the collinearity analysis of interspecific Trihelix transcription factors of model plants Arabidopsis thaliana and ginseng, 19 collinear gene pairs were found between A. thaliana and ginseng, and no collinear gene pairs existed on chromosomes 3, 6, and 12 only. qRT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of GWHGBEIJ010320.1 was significantly up-regulated under low temperature stress, a significant response to low temperature stress. This study lays a foundation for further research on the role of the Trihelix transcription factor of ginseng in abiotic stress, as well as the growth and development of ginseng.

Pyridazine, as a privileged scaffold, has been extensively utilized in drug development due to its multiple biological activities. Especially around its distinctive anticancer property, a massive number of pyridazine-containing compounds have been synthesized and evaluated that target a diverse array of biological processes involved in cancer onset and progression. These include glutaminase 1 (GLS1) inhibitors, tropomyosin receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitors, and bromodomain containing protein (BRD) inhibitors, targeting aberrant tumor metabolism, cell signal transduction and epigenetic modifications, respectively. Pyridazine moieties functioned as either core frameworks or warheads in the above agents, exhibiting promising potential in cancer treatment. Therefore, the review aims to summarize the recent contributions of pyridazine derivatives as potent anticancer agents between 2020 and 2024, focusing mainly on their structure-activity relationships (SARs) and development strategies, with a view to show that the application of the pyridazine scaffold by different medicinal chemists provides new insights into the rational design of anticancer drugs.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of thermal ablation in treating solitary low-risk T2N0M0 papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and compare the outcomes of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective, single center study involved 34 patients (age: 40.0 ± 13.9 years; 28 female) who had low-risk T2N0M0 PTC with a maximum diameter >2 cm and ≤4 cm and underwent MWA (n = 15) or RFA (n = 19) from November 2016 to April 2023. The primary outcomes were the cumulative rate of disease progression and delayed surgery rates. In contrast, the secondary outcomes included changes in tumor size, cumulative rate of complete tumor disappearance, and complication rates. RESULTS: The median follow-up period was 18.0 months (interquartile range [IQR]: 9.0-40.0 months). At 12 months, the median volume reduction rate of the ablation zone was 74.2% (IQR: 53.7%-86.0%). Disease progression was noted in two patients within 1 year, including one patient with local tumor progression post-RFA and one with a new tumor post-MWA, resulting in a constant cumulative disease progression rate of 8.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0%-19.8%) throughout the remaining follow-up period. Both patients were subsequently treated with additional ablation and did not require surgery. The cumulative rates of complete tumor disappearance at 1, 3, and 5 years were 4.0% (95% CI: 0%-11.4%), 26.8% (95% CI: 2.7%-44.9%), and 51.2% (95% CI: 0%-79.1%), respectively. No significant differences were observed in the disease progression (P = 0.829) or complete tumor disappearance (P = 0.633) rates between the MWA and RFA groups. Complications occurred in 14.7% (5/34) of patients presenting with transient hoarseness. RFA had a higher but not statistically significant complication rate than MWA did (21.1% [4/19] vs. 6.7% [1/15]; P = 0.355). CONCLUSION: Both MWA and RFA demonstrated promising short-term outcomes in terms of efficacy and safety in treating solitary low-risk T2N0M0 PTC, with no significant differences.

Anti-estrogenic therapy is established in the management of estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer. However, to overcome resistance and improve therapeutic outcome, novel strategies are needed such as targeting widely recognized aberrant epigenetics. The study aims to investigate the combination of the aromatase inhibitor exemestane and the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor and antioxidant α-lipoic acid in ER-positive breast cancer cells. First, the enantiomers and the racemic mixture of α-lipoic acid, and rac-dihydro-lipoic acid were investigated for HDAC inhibition. We found HDAC inhibitory activity in the 1-3-digit micromolar range with a preference for HDAC6. Rac-dihydro-lipoic acid is slightly more potent than rac-α-lipoic acid. The antiproliferative IC50 value of α-lipoic acid is in the 3-digit micromolar range. Notably, the combination of exemestane and α-lipoic acid resulted in synergistic behavior under various incubation times (24 h to 10 d) and readouts (MTT, live-cell fluorescence microscopy, caspase activation) analyzed by the Chou-Talalay method. α-lipoic acid increases mitochondrial fusion and the expression of apoptosis-related proteins p21, APAF-1, BIM, FOXO1, and decreases expression of anti-apoptotic proteins survivin, BCL-2, and c-myc. In conclusion, combining exemestane with α-lipoic acid is a promising novel treatment option for ER-positive breast cancer.

Background: Stroke survivors in post-acute care frequently experience physiological dysfunction and reduced quality of life. This study aims to assess the impact of the Post-Acute Care Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (PAC-IPCP) program across different care settings, and to identify sensitive tools for assessing physiological functions among post-acute stroke survivors. Methods: This retrospective study involved 210 stroke survivors in Taiwan. Participants who self-selection for their preferred between hospital care setting and home care setting under PAC-IPCP. Multiple assessment tools were utilized, including the Barthel Index (BI), Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), EQ-5D-3L, and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL). The logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratios of various functional assessment tools between hospital and home care settings. Additionally, the area under the ROC curves was used to determine which functional assessment tools had higher accuracy in measuring the association between care settings. Results: Of the study population, 138 stroke survivors (65.71%) selection hospital care setting and 72 stroke survivors (34.29%) selection home care setting. The PAC-IPCP program was equally effective in both care settings for physical function status and quality of life improvements. Specifically, the BI emerged as the most sensitive tool for assessing care settings, with an adjusted OR of 1.04 (95% CI:1.02-1.07, p < 0.0001; AUC = 0.7557). IPCP-based hospital and home care models are equally effective in facilitating improved functional outcomes in post-acute stroke survivors. Conclusion: The PAC-IPCP program is versatile and effective across care settings. The BI stands out as a robust assessment tool for physiological functions, endorsing its broader clinical application. Future studies should also consider swallowing and nutritional status for a more holistic approach to rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care unit acquired weakness (ICUAW) is a common neuromuscular complication of critical illness, impacting patients' recovery and long-term outcomes. However, limited evidence is available on pooled prevalence and risk factors of ICUAW specifically in the COVID-19-infected population. METHODS: We searched on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PEDro, and EBSCOhost/CINAHL up to January 31, 2024. Data synthesis was conducted using the Freeman-Tukey double-arcsine transformation model for the pooled prevalence rate and odds ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals was used to identify risk factors. RESULTS: The pooled prevalence of ICUAW in COVID-19 patients was 55% in eight studies on 868 patients. Risk factors for developing ICUAW in these patients were: old age (WMD 4.78, 95% CI, 1.06-8.49), pre-existing hypertension (OR = 1.63, 95% CI, 1.02-2.61), medical intervention of prone position (OR = 5.21, 95% CI, 2.72-9.98), use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA) (OR = 12.04, 95% CI, 6.20-23.39), needed tracheostomy (OR = 18.07, 95% CI, 5.64-57.92) and renal replacement therapy (RRT) (OR = 5.24, 95% CI = 2.36-11.63). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of ICUAW in patients with COVID-19 was considered relatively high. Older age, pre-existing hypertension, medical intervention of prone position, NMBA use, needed tracheostomy and RRT were likely risk factors. In the future, interdisciplinary medical team should pay attention to high-risk groups for ICUAW prevention and early treatments.

Through the introduction of innovative instruments such as virtual assistant chatbots, wearable monitoring devices, predictive analytic models, personalized treatment regimens, and automated appointment systems, AI is not only amplifying the quality of care but also empowering patients and fostering a more interactive dynamic between the patient and the healthcare provider. Yet, this progressive infiltration of AI into the healthcare sphere grapples with a plethora of challenges hitherto unseen. The exigent issues of data security and privacy, the specter of algorithmic bias, the requisite adaptability of regulatory frameworks, and the matter of patient acceptance and trust in AI solutions demand immediate and thoughtful resolution .The importance of establishing stringent and far-reaching policies, ensuring technological impartiality, and cultivating patient confidence is paramount to ensure that AI-driven enhancements in healthcare service provision remain both ethically sound and efficient. In conclusion, we advocate for an expansion of research efforts aimed at navigating the ethical complexities inherent to a technology-evolving landscape, catalyzing policy innovation, and devising AI applications that are not only clinically effective but also earn the trust of the patient populace. Background: Epidemiological studies investigating the potential associations between antioxidant vitamins intake and risk of glioma have yielded inconsistent results. To address this, we carried out a systematic review and updated meta-analysis to explore the relationship between dietary antioxidant vitamins intake and risk of glioma. Methods: We comprehensively searched electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wan fang Data from their inception to March 2024. We employed fixed-effects or random-effects models to estimate the pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations between dietary antioxidant vitamins intake and risk of glioma. Publication bias was assessed through the visual inspection of the funnel plots and quantified by the Begg's and Egger's tests. Heterogeneity across studies was assessed using the Cochran's Q test and I-square (I2). Additionally, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to explore potential sources of heterogeneity and evaluate the robustness of the results. Results: Overall, a total of 15 articles involving 3,608 glioma cases and 771,930 participants were included in the final analysis. The pooled analyses revealed that the highest intake of vitamin C significantly reduced the risk of glioma (RR = 0.78; 95%CI: 0.63-0.96; P = 0.022), compared to the lowest intake. However, no significant associations were observed between vitamin A and vitamin E intake and the risk of glioma (P>0.05). Subgroup analyses revealed the inverse association between vitamin C intake and risk of glioma in the population-based case-control studies (RR = 0.82; 95%CI: 0.68-1.00, P = 0.049) and study quality <7(RR = 0.52, 95%CI: 0.29-0.92, P = 0.025). Conclusion: Our findings show that higher intake of vitamin C is strongly associated with a reduced risk of glioma, although a dose-response relationship was not evident. Future large-scale prospective studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

The microscopic structure of the material's solid-liquid interface significantly influences its physicochemical properties. Peak force infrared microscopy (PFIR) is a powerful technique for analyzing these interfaces at the nanoscale, revealing crucial structure-activity relationships. PFIR is recognized for its explicit photothermal signal generation mechanism but tends to overlook other photoinduced forces, which can disturb the obtained infrared spectra, thereby reducing spectral signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and sensitivity. We have developed a multiphysics-coupled theoretical model to assess the magnitudes of various photoinduced forces in PFIR experiments and have found that the magnitude of the photoacoustic force is comparable to that of the photothermal expansion force in a liquid environment. Our calculations show that through simple modulation of the pulse waveform it is possible to effectively suppress the photoacoustic interference, thereby improving the SNR and sensitivity of PFIR. This work aims to alert researchers to the potential for strong photoacoustic interference in liquid-phase PFIR measurements and enhance the performance of PFIR by clarifying the photoinduced forces entangled in the signals.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Jiawei Bai-Hu-Decoction (JWBHD), a prescription formulated with seven traditional Chinese medicinal material has demonstrated clinical efficacy in mitigating brain injury among heat stroke (HS) patients. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of JWBHD on rat model of HS and to explore its therapeutic mechanisms by integrating network pharmacology and pharmacodynamic methodologies, which major components were analyzed by using UPLC-MS/MS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The network pharmacology analysis was firstly conducted to predict the potential active ingredients and therapeutic targets of JWBHD. The anti-HS effectiveness of JWBHD was then evaluated on rats experienced HS. Rat brain tissues were harvested for a comprehensive array of experiments, including Western blot, PCR, H&E staining, Nissl staining, ELISA, transmission electron microscope, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence to validate the protective effects of JWBHD against HS-induced brain damage. Furthermore, the inhibitory effects of JWBHD on TLR4/NF-κB signal and mitophagy of glial were further verified on HS-challenged F98 cell line. Finally, the chemical compositions of the water extract of JWBHD were analyzed by using UPLC-MS/MS. RESULTS: Network pharmacology has identified fifty core targets and numerous HS-related signaling pathways as potential therapeutic targets of JWBHD. Analysis of protein-protein interaction (PPI) and GO suggests that JWBHD may suppress HS-induced inflammatory signals. In experiments conducted on HS-rats, JWBHD significantly reduced the core temperature, restored blood pressure and alleviated neurological defect. Furthermore, JWBHD downregulated the counts of white blood cells and monocytes, decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α in peripheral blood, and suppressed the expression of TLR4 and NF-κB in the cerebral cortex of HS-rats. Besides, JWBHD inhibited the apoptosis of cortical cells and mitigated the damage to the cerebral cortex in HS group. Conversely, overactive mitophagy was observed in the cerebral cortex of HS-rats. However, JWBHD restored the mitochondrial membrane potential and downregulated expressions of mitophagic proteins including Pink1, Parkin, LC3B and Tom20. JWBHD reduced the co-localization of Pink1 and GFAP, a specific marker of astrocytes in the cerebral cortex of HS-rats. In addition, the inhibitory effect of JWBHD on TLR4/NF-κB signaling and overactive mitophagy were further confirmed in F98 cells. Finally, UPLC-MS/MS analysis showed that the main components of JWBHD include isoliquiritigenin, liquiritin, dipotassium glycyrrhizinate, ginsenoside Rb1, ginsenoside Re, etc. CONCLUSIONS: JWBHD protected rats from HS and prevented HS-induced damage in the cerebral cortex by suppressing TLR4/NF-κB signaling and mitophagy of glial.

This study demonstrates cellulose acetate (CA)-coated screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) for soil microbial activity detection. A capacitive sensor design utilizes a coated CA layer for effective insulation in electrolytes, eliminating the need for additional signal protection. Optimization involved comparing spin and dip coating methods, with a one-layer 10-second dip coating identified as the best balance between quality and yield. These CA/SPCEs exhibited remarkable stability over a month, suggesting their potential for long-term use in monitoring agricultural soils. Analysis of CA/SPCE profile and thickness provided insights into surface characteristics and the impact of the CA coating on electrode roughness. ATR-FTIR analysis, along with capacitive sensing, demonstrated superior sensitivity and precision for monitoring CA film degradation compared to mechanical gauges. Chemical degradation studies suggest CA's potential immunity in near-neutral environments, while enzymatic degradation investigations revealed dominance by enzymes, particularly in the initial stages. The CA/SPCE sensor responds to both enzymatic and chemical degradation, potentially serving as an indicator of total soil microbial activity. Soil experiments explored CA/SPCE with Cap-S for microbial activity sensing. Significant differences in the long-term degradation rate were observed in mycorrhizal fungi-enriched soil compared to controls, highlighting microbial influences. This study underscores the adaptability and versatility of this technology, particularly for assessing C-cycle microbial activity in agricultural fields.

The peroxisome is a versatile organelle that performs diverse metabolic functions. PEX3, a critical regulator of the peroxisome, participates in various biological processes associated with the peroxisome. Whether PEX3 is involved in peroxisome-related redox homeostasis and myocardial regenerative repair remains elusive. We investigate that cardiomyocyte-specific PEX3 knockout (Pex3-KO) results in an imbalance of redox homeostasis and disrupts the endogenous proliferation/development at different times and spatial locations. Using Pex3-KO mice and myocardium-targeted intervention approaches, the effects of PEX3 on myocardial regenerative repair during both physiological and pathological stages are explored. Mechanistically, lipid metabolomics reveals that PEX3 promotes myocardial regenerative repair by affecting plasmalogen metabolism. Further, we find that PEX3-regulated plasmalogen activates the AKT/GSK3ß signaling pathway via the plasma membrane localization of ITGB3. Our study indicates that PEX3 may represent a novel therapeutic target for myocardial regenerative repair following injury.

Bulk black phosphorous (bP) exhibits excellent infrared (IR) optoelectronic properties, but most reported bP IR photodetectors are fabricated from single exfoliated flakes with lateral sizes of < 100 µm. Here, scalable thin films of bP suitable for IR photodetector arrays are realized through a tailored solution-deposition method. The properties of the bP film and their protective capping layers are optimized to fabricate bP IR photoconductors exhibiting specific detectivities up to 4.0 × 108 cm Hz1/2 W-1 with fast 30/60 µs rise/fall times under λ = 2.2 µm illumination. The scalability of the bP thin film fabrication is demonstrated by fabricating a linear array of 25 bP photodetectors and obtaining 25 × 25 pixel IR images at ≈203 ppi with good spatial fidelity. This research demonstrates a commercially viable method of fabricating scalable bP thin films for optoelectronic devices including room temperature-operable IR photodetector arrays.

Metal-organic frameworks have garnered attention as highly efficient pre-electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Current structure-activity relationships primarily rely on the assumption that the complete dissolution of organic ligands occurs during electrocatalysis. Herein, modeling based on NiFe Prussian blue analogs (NiFe-PBAs) show that cyanide ligands leach from the matrix and subsequently oxidize to corresponding inorganic ions (ammonium and carbonate) that re-adsorb onto the surface of NiFe OOH during the OER process. Interestingly, the surface-adsorbed inorganic ions induce the OER reaction of NiFe OOH to switch from the adsorbate evolution to the lattice-oxygen-mediated mechanism, thus contributing to the high activity. In addition, this reconstructed inorganic ion layer acting as a versatile protective layer can prevent the dissolution of metal sites to maintain contact between catalytic sites and reactive ions, thus breaking the activity-stability trade-off. Consequently, our constructed NiFe-PBAs exhibit excellent durability for 1250 h with an ultralow overpotential of 253 mV at 100 mA cm-2. The scale-up NiFe-PBAs operated with a low energy consumption of ∼4.18 kWh m-3 H2 in industrial water electrolysis equipment.
