RESUMEN

The unique physical and chemical properties make metallic nanoparticles promising for broad applications in many fields. Exploring the dynamics of metallic nanoparticles in optical traps is crucial for exploiting optical tweezers to advance the applications of metallic particles. In this paper, we present a detailed study of the annular optical trapping of gold nanoparticles with azimuthal polarization. Theoretical analysis based on the T-matrix method shows that the gold nanoparticles experience optical forces pointing to the equilibrium position along the radial direction, while there is no force along the azimuthal direction at this equilibrium position. Therefore, a tightly focused azimuthally polarized beam captures gold nanoparticles in an annular region. Experimental measurements of the motion trajectory of the confined gold nanoparticles reveal a donut profile consistent with the theoretical predictions. Our work reported in this paper is expected to deepen our understanding of the interactions between metallic nanoparticles and light and promote the application of metallic nanoparticles.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the effect of esketamine on the dose-effect relationship between remifentanil and the cardiovascular response to endotracheal intubation during target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol. METHODS: Patients underwent elective gynecological laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation, aged 18-65 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists class I or II, 18 kg/m2 ≤ body mass index ≤ 30 kg/m2, were randomly divided into the control (group C) and esketamine groups (group E). Before anesthesia induction, group E received an intravenous injection of 0.3 mg/kg of esketamine, while group C received an equal dose of physiological saline. TCI of propofol to the effect-site concentration (EC) of 3.0 µg/mL, and then TCI of remifentanil to the effect room and intravenous injection of rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg after MOAA/S was 0. Endotracheal intubation was performed after 2 min. Dixon's modified sequential method was used, and the initial EC of remifentanil was 3.0 ng/mL. The EC of remifentanil was determined according to the intubation response of the previous patient, with an adjacent concentration gradient of 0.3 ng/mL. The EC50 and EC95 values and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were determined using probit regression analysis. RESULTS: The EC50 for cardiovascular response inhibition to endotracheal intubation using remifentanil was 3.91 ng/mL (95% CI: 3.59-4.33 ng/mL) and EC95 was 4.66 ng/mL (95% CI: 4.27-6.23 ng/mL) with TCI of propofol 3.0 µg/mL. After intravenous administration of 0.3 mg/kg of esketamine, the EC50 of remifentanil was 3.56 ng/mL (95% CI: 3.22-3.99 ng/mL) and EC95 was 4.31 ng/mL (95% CI: 3.91-5.88 ng/mL). CONCLUSIONS: Combined with TCI of propofol 3.0 µg/mL for anesthesia induction, esketamine significantly reduced the EC50 and EC95 of remifentanil to inhibit the cardiovascular response to endotracheal intubation. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The trial was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry ( www.chictr.org.cn ; registration number: ChiCTR2200064932; date of registration:24/10/2022).

CONTEXT: The provision of person-centered dignity-conserving care is central to palliative care. It is important to reevaluate current methods of assessing dignity as the concept of dignity is multifaceted. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to understand the tools which are used to assess a patient's dignity and the elements of dignity evaluated in these tools. METHODS: Two independent and concurrent Systematic Evidence-Based Approach guided systematic scoping reviews (SSR in SEBA) on existing dignity assessment tools and on accounts of assessments of dignity were carried out. The SSR in SEBA on dignity assessment tools involving PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, and CINAHL databases saw 22 full-text articles included from the 645 articles reviewed. The SSR in SEBA on accounts of assessments of dignity featured in the PubMed database identified 102 full-text articles which saw 46 articles included. RESULTS: The domains identified were factors affecting patients' definition of dignity; elements of dignity-conserving care; and components of effective tools. CONCLUSION: Current accounts to assess dignity and assessment tools fail to capture shifting self-concepts of dignity holistically. A portfolio-like appraisal of dignity is proposed to achieve assessments that are timely, longitudinal, and patient-specific. Portfolio-based assessments by members of the multidisciplinary team will better direct timely evaluations of relevant aspects of changing concepts of dignity, without losing the patient's holistic perception of dignity.

Metallic microparticles larger than the illumination wavelength are commonly considered poor optical trapping candidates due to their high extinction coefficient. This paper presents a numerical and experimental study on the three-dimensional (3D) trapping of gold microparticles using a centrally obstructed Gaussian beam based on the T-matrix method. The range of particle size for stable optical trapping is determined. For the trapping numerical aperture of 1.32 and illumination wavelength of 1.064 µm, numerical analysis proves that 3D trapping of gold microparticles with a radius bigger than 1.0 µm can be readily achieved. By imprinting a digital lens to the spatial light modulator, we slightly defocus the centrally obstructed Gaussian beam to shift the trapping location to the focal plane for clear observation. Experimental results demonstrate stable trapping of gold microparticles with a radius greater than 1.4 µm at high-power illumination, agreeing well with the theoretical predictions. The presented work should be of interest to the community applying metallic microparticles to relevant research.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) GATA3 antisense RNA 1 (GATA3-AS1) targeting miR-515-5p on the proliferation and apoptosis of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cells. METHODS: RT-qPCR was used to determine the expression of GATA3-AS1 and miR-515-5p in the plasma of controls and ALL children. Human ALL cells Jurkat were divided into si-GATA3-AS1, si-NC, miR-NC, miR-515-5p, si-GATA3-AS1+anti-miR-NC and si-GATA3-AS1+anti-miR-515-5p groups. CCK-8 assay was used to detect the cell proliferation, and flow cytometry was used to detect the cell apoptosis. The targeting relationship between GATA3-AS1 and miR-515-5p was determined by dual-luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: The expression level of GATA3-AS1 in the plasma of ALL children was significantly higher than that of controls (P <0.001), while the expression level of miR-515-5p was significantly lower than that of controls (P <0.001). Compared with the si-NC group, the cell inhibition rate, apoptosis rate, and miR-515-5p expression level in si-GATA3-AS1 group were significantly increased (P <0.001). Compared with the miR-NC group, the cell inhibition rate and apoptosis rate in miR-515-5p group were significantly increased (P <0.001). GATA3-AS1 could directly and specifically bind to miR-515-5p. Compared with the si-GATA3-AS1+anti-miR-NC group, the cell inhibition rate and apoptosis rate in si-GATA3-AS1+anti-miR-515-5p group were significantly decreased (P <0.001). CONCLUSION: Down-regulation of GATA3-AS1 can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis of childhood ALL cells by targeting up-regulation of miR-515-5p expression.

Background: Retroauricular injection is a local steroid hormone administration method commonly used to treat deafness or tinnitus. The acute stage of Bell's Palsy is an acute disease that requires steroid therapy. Retroauricular injection may replace oral administration of steroid hormones in the treatment of this disease as well as reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions. Methods: This study included patients with Bell's Palsy within seven days of onset. A total of 120 patients were enrolled as the study subjects and randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Both groups received routine acupuncture treatment and took a traditional Chinese medicine decoction corresponding with the syndrome type. Methylprednisolone sodium succinate was injected into the bone surface of retroauricula in the experimental group, and prednisone acetate was orally administered in the control group. The main outcome indicators were the House-Brackmann (HB) grade, the facial disability index (FDI), and time of postauricular pain after one month of treatment. Results: There were no significant differences in the HB grade (2.00 ± 1.06 vs. 1.88 ± 1.06, P=), FDIP (97.25 ± 6.00 vs. 97.17 ± 7.39, P=), and FDIS (0.60 ± 3.02 vs. 1.33 ± 4.27, P=) at 30 days after treatment between the two groups (P > 0.05). Postauricular pain disappeared earlier in the experimental group (3.66 ± 1.67 days) than in the control group (6.31 ± 2.34); the difference was statistically significant (P ≤ 0.001). The adverse reaction rate was lower in the experimental group (15.00%) than in the control group (21.66%). Interpretation: Although the dose of steroid hormone injected into the bone surface of retroauricula in the treatment of Bell's Palsy is lower than the administered dose of oral hormones, it has the same curative effect; however, it has a better effect regarding to the duration of postauricular pain and adverse reactions.

The composition of influenza vaccines is updated annually. To ensure vaccine safety, the coverage and adverse events following immunization (AEFI) of 6 manufacturers of trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV3) need to be evaluated. In January 2022, we analyzed data from more than 1.59 million children in the Childhood Vaccination Information Management System and the AEFI Surveillance Information Management System and evaluated influenza vaccines for children aged 6 to 35 months in Guangzhou from 2016/17 to 2019/20 Vaccination rates and AEFI reporting rates. From 2016/17 to 2019/20, the 1-dose influenza vaccination rate was 25.0% (range: 20.7%-30.2%), and the 2-dose (full course) influenza vaccination rate was 21.6% (range: 17.7%-26.4%). The full vaccination coverage rate has trended down since 2017/2018 (2017/18: 26.0%; 2018/19: 8.3; 2019/20: 17.7%). Fifty-two cases (13.1/100 000) and 24 cases (6.9/100 000) received AEFI reports for 1 dose and 2 doses, respectively, mainly due to fever ≥38.6°C (39 cases for 1 dose, 9.8/100 000; 15 cases for 2 dose, 4.3/100 000) and allergic rash (9 cases with 1 dose, 2.3/100 000; 5 cases with 2 doses, 1.4/100 000). Patients who received A and F manufacturers were more likely to report side effects. The safety of influenza vaccines from 6 manufacturers is good, and it is necessary to improve the recommended information on influenza vaccines to dispel people's concerns and increase the vaccination rate.

Holographic optical tweezers (HOTs) use spatial light modulators (SLM) to modulate light beams, thereby enabling the dynamic control of optical trap arrays with complex intensity and phase distributions. This has provided exciting new opportunities for cell sorting, microstructure machining, and studying single molecules. However, the pixelated structure of the SLM will inevitably bring up the unmodulated zero-order diffraction possessing an unacceptably large fraction of the incident light beam power. This is harmful to optical trapping because of the bright, highly localized nature of the errant beam. In this paper and to address this issue, we construct a cost-effective, zero-order free HOTs apparatus, thanks to a homemade asymmetric triangle reflector and a digital lens. As there is no zero-order diffraction, the instrument performs excellently in generating complex light fields and manipulating particles.

BACKGROUND: Reflective writing (RW) allows physicians to step back, review their thoughts, goals and actions and recognise how their perspectives, motives and emotions impact their conduct. RW also helps physicians consolidate their learning and boosts their professional and personal development. In the absence of a consistent approach and amidst growing threats to RW's place in medical training, a review of theories of RW in medical education and a review to map regnant practices, programs and assessment methods are proposed. METHODS: A Systematic Evidence-Based Approach guided Systematic Scoping Review (SSR in SEBA) was adopted to guide and structure the two concurrent reviews. Independent searches were carried out on publications featured between 1st January 2000 and 30th June 2022 in PubMed, Embase, PsychINFO, CINAHL, ERIC, ASSIA, Scopus, Google Scholar, OpenGrey, GreyLit and ProQuest. The Split Approach saw the included articles analysed separately using thematic and content analysis. Like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, the Jigsaw Perspective combined the themes and categories identified from both reviews. The Funnelling Process saw the themes/categories created compared with the tabulated summaries. The final domains which emerged structured the discussion that followed. RESULTS: A total of 33,076 abstracts were reviewed, 1826 full-text articles were appraised and 199 articles were included and analysed. The domains identified were theories and models, current methods, benefits and shortcomings, and recommendations. CONCLUSIONS: This SSR in SEBA suggests that a structured approach to RW shapes the physician's belief system, guides their practice and nurtures their professional identity formation. In advancing a theoretical concept of RW, this SSR in SEBA proffers new insight into the process of RW, and the need for longitudinal, personalised feedback and support.

INTRODUCTION: The debate on assisted dying and its components, euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide has evolved with the emergence of the right to dignity and the wish to hasten death (WTHD). Whilst shaped by local legal and sociocultural considerations, appreciation of how patients, healthcare professionals and lawmakers relate notions of dignity to self-concepts of personhood and the desire for assisted dying will better inform and direct support of patients. METHODS: Guided by the Systematic Evidence Based Approach, a systematic scoping review (SSR in SEBA) on perspectives of dignity, WTHD and personhood featured in PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, CINAHL, Scopus databases and four key Palliative Care journals was conducted. The review hinged on the following questions: "what is the relationship between dignity and the wish to hasten death (WTHD) in the assisted dying debate?", "how is dignity conceptualised by patients with WTHD?" and "what are prevailing perspectives on the role of assisted dying in maintaining a dying patient's dignity?" RESULTS: 6947 abstracts were identified, 663 full text articles reviewed, and 88 articles included. The four domains identified include 1) concepts of dignity through the lens of the Ring Theory of Personhood (RToP) including their various definitions and descriptions; 2) the relationship between dignity, WTHD and assisted dying with loss of dignity and autonomy foregrounded; 3) stakeholder perspectives for and against assisted dying including those of patient, healthcare provider and lawmaker; and 4) other dignity-conserving measures as alternatives to assisted dying. CONCLUSION: Concepts of dignity constantly evolve throughout the patient's end of life journey. Understanding when and how these concepts of personhood change and trigger the fear of a loss of dignity or intractable suffering could direct timely, individualised and appropriate person-centred dignity conserving measures. We believe an RToP-based tool could fulfil this role and further study into the design of this tool is planned.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical effects of targeted perioperative nursing combined with propofol and fentanyl in gynecological laparoscopic surgery. Methods: Patients who were admitted to our hospital for gynecological laparoscopic surgeries from October 1, 2019 to November 30, 2021 were included in this retrospective study. Patients in group A received routine propofol and fentanyl. Patients in group B received targeted perioperative nursing on the basis of interventions in group A. The anesthetic effects, clinical indicators, mental health status, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: A total of 84 qualified patients were retrieved. The total effective anesthesia rate, extubation time, operation time, consciousness recovery time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, SAS score, SDS score, health status indicators, and adverse events in group B were all significantly better than those in group A (P < 0.05 for all comparisons). Conclusion: Combined intervention (propofol + fentanyl + targeted perioperative care) for gynecological laparoscopic surgery patients has a significant anesthesia effect, which can effectively improve the patient's clinical indicators and mental health status and can also reduce the occurrence of adverse events. It has good safety and can be widely used in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: A socioculturally appropriate appreciation of dignity is pivotal to the effective provision of care for dying patients. Yet concepts of dignity remain poorly defined. To address this gap in understanding and enhance dignity conserving end-of-life care, a review of current concepts of dignity is proposed. METHODS: To address its primary research question "How do patients conceive the concept of dignity at the end of life?", this review appraises regnant concepts and influences of dignity, and evaluates current dignity conserving practices. To enhance accountability, transparency and reproducibility, this review employs the Ring Theory of Personhood (RToP) as its theoretical lens to guide a Systematic Evidence Based Approach guided Systematic Scoping Review (SSR in SEBA) of patient perspectives of dignity. Three independent teams of reviewers independently analysed included articles from a structured search of PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Scopus, CINAHL and Cochrane Databases using thematic and content analyses. The themes and categories identified were compared and combined using the Funnelling Process to create domains that guide the discussion that follows. RESULTS: Seventy-eight thousand five hundred seventy-five abstracts were identified, 645 articles were reviewed, and 127 articles were included. The three domains identified were definitions of dignity, influences upon perceptions of dignity, and dignity conserving care. CONCLUSIONS: This SSR in SEBA affirms the notion that dignity is intimately entwined with self-concepts of personhood and that effective dignity conserving measures at the end of life must be guided by the patient's concept of dignity. This SSR in SEBA posits that such personalised culturally sensitive, and timely support of patients, their family and loved ones may be possible through the early and longitudinal application of a RToP based tool.

Blend films with poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) and poly(propylene carbonate)(PPC)with thickness of approximately 40 µm and 60 µm, respectively, were prepared using a uniaxial-stretching extrusion process to modify the property of PCL. PCL/PPC blend films with better comprehensive properties with thickness about 60 µm were used for equilibrium-modified atmosphere packaging of button mushrooms at 5 °C. The gas barrier property together with water vapor permeability were evaluated as well as its effects on the shelf life button mushrooms. The results showed that the PCL/PPC20 and PCL/PPC50 blend films have suitable gas barrier property and water vapor permeability, which was helpful to generate an appropriate storage environment and more importantly no condensation occurred in these two packages. The lower weight loss of button mushrooms was observed for PCL/PPC20 and PCL/PPC50 blend films 4.43 and 4.46, respectively. The PCL/PPC blend films was more effective in decreasing the activity of PPO and preserving the color of the button mushrooms. The over market acceptability of button mushrooms packaged in PCL/PPC blend films still maintained good and within the limit of marketability after 17 days of storage.

OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: We aim to explore the molecular mechanism of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). METHODS: The H9C2 cells were cultured under hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) condition to induce myocardial injury in vitro. The expression of miR-451-3p and MAP1LC3B was detected by RT-qPCR. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA pull-down assay were performed to examine the relationship between microRNA (miR)-451-3p and MAP1LC3B. CCK8 was used to test cell viability. The level of LDH and CK was evaluated via ELISA. Immunofluorescence assay and flow cytometry were applied to detect autophagy and apoptosis, respectively. Autophagy-related protein expressions were determined by western blotting. Furthermore, an in vivo rat model of MIRI was established by subjection to 30 min ischemia and subsequently 24 h reperfusion for validation of the role of miR-451-3p in regulating MIRI in vivo. RESULTS: miR-451-3p was down-regulated in MIRI, and miR-451-3p mimics transfection alleviated autophagy and apoptosis induced by MIRI. miR-451-3p could target MAP1LC3B directly. Co-transfection miR-451-3p mimics and pcDNA 3.1 MAP1LC3B curbed the protected effects of miR-451-3p mimics on MIRI. CONCLUSIONS: miR-451-3p played a protective role in MIRI via inhibiting MAP1LC3B-mediated autophagy, which may provide new molecular targets for the treatment of MIRI and further improves the clinical outcomes of heart diseases.

Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) has attracted considerable interest in super-resolution, live-cell imaging because of its low light dose and high imaging speed. Obtaining a high-quality reconstruction image in SIM depends on the precise determination of the parameters of the fringe illumination pattern. The image recombination transform (IRT) algorithm is superior to other algorithms in obtaining the precise initial phase without any approximation, which is promising to provide a considerable solution to address the difficulty of initial phase estimation at low-modulation-depth conditions. However, the IRT algorithm only considers a phase shift of π∕2, which limits its applications in general scenarios. In this letter, we present a general form of IRT algorithm suitable for arbitrary phase shifts, providing a powerful tool for parameter estimation in low signal-to-noise cases. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the enhanced IRT algorithm, we constructed a multicolor, structured illumination microscope and studied at super-resolution, the cargo traffic in HRPE cells, and monitored the movement of mitochondrial structures and microtubules in COS-7 cells. The custom SIM system using the enhanced IRT algorithm allows multicolor capability and a low excitation intensity fluorescence imaging less than 1 W/cm2. High-quality super-resolution images are obtained, which demonstrates the utility of this approach in imaging in the life sciences.

Background: Since 2016, China has approved the use of inactivated enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccines produced by three manufacturers. The coverage and safety of different EV71 vaccines need to be evaluated.Research design and methods: The EV71 vaccination and AEFI data were collected from the Guangzhou Children's Vaccination Information Report Management System and the China AEFI Monitoring Information Management System, and the EV71 vaccine coverage rate and the AEFI incidence rate were analyzed.Results: From 2016 to 2019, the number of people who should have been vaccinated in Guangzhou was 2,781,618, and the coverage rates for doses 1 and 2 were 24.71% and 19.44%, respectively. The inoculation rates of vaccines from manufacturers A and B were between 3.03 and 10.46%. The reported incidence of AEFIs was 11.97 per 100,000 (147 cases), with fever (106 cases, 8.63 per 100,000) and allergic rash (59 cases, 4.80 per 100,000) being the most common reactions. There were no differences in the AEFI responses to the EV71 vaccines from the three manufacturers.Conclusion: The EV71 vaccines from the three manufacturers have good safety, but the EV71 vaccine coverage rate is low. It is recommended that vaccine publicity be strengthened and that the vaccine coverage rate in children be increased.

ABSTRACT: Vascular hypo-reactivity plays a critical role inducing organ injury during hemorrhagic shock. 17ß-estradiol (E2) can induce vasodilation to increase blood flow in various vascular beds. This study observed whether E2 can restore vascular hypo-reactivity induced by hemorrhagic shock, and whether E2 effects are associated with RhoA-Rho kinase (ROCK)-myosin light chain kinase phosphatase (MLCP) pathway. The hemorrhagic shock model (40 ±â€Š2 mm Hg for 1 h, resuscitation for 4 h) was established in ovary intact sham operation (OVI), ovariectomized (OVX), and OVX plus E2 supplement female mice. Intestinal microvascular loop was used to assess blood flow in vivo, mRNA expression and vascular reactivity in vitro. Hemorrhagic shock significantly reduced norepinephrine microvascular reactivity. Decreased microvascular reactivity was exacerbated by OVX and reversed by E2 supplement. U-46619 (RhoA agonist) increased microvascular reactivity, and C3 transferase (an ADP ribosyl transferase that selectively induces RhoA ribosylation) or Y-27632 (ROCK inhibitor) inhibited sham mice microvascular reactivity. Similarly, U-46619 increased microvascular reactivity in OVI and OVX mice following hemorrhagic shock, which was abolished by Y-27632 or concomitant incubation of okadaic acid (OA) (MLCP inhibitor) and Y-27632. In OVX plus E2 supplement mice with hemorrhagic shock, Y-27632 inhibited microvascular reactivity, which was abolished by concomitant U-46619 application. Lastly, hemorrhagic shock remarkably decreased intestinal loop blood flow, RhoA and ROCK mRNA expressions in vascular tissues in OVX females, but not in OVI females, which were reversed by E2 supplement. These results indicate that estrogen improves microvascular reactivity during hemorrhagic shock, and RhoA-ROCK signaling pathway may mediate E2 effects.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) is a common malignancy with highly female incidence. So far the function of notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1), the extract from Panax notoginseng, has not been clearly elucidated in BC. METHODS: Optimal culture concentration and time of NGR1 were investigated by cell counting kit-8 assay. Cell proliferation ability was measured by colony formation assays. Transwell assay was used to detect the effect of NGR1 on cell migration and invasion. The apoptosis rate of cells between each group was measured by TUNEL assay. RESULTS: NGR1 treatment has an inhibitory effect on proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis and a stimulating effect on cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF-7) cells. The 50% growth inhibitory concentration for MCF-7 cells at 24 h was 148.9 mmol/L. The proportions of MCF-7 cells arrested in the G0/G1 phase were 36.94±6.78%, 45.06±5.60%, and 59.46±5.60% in the control group, 75, and 150 mmol/L groups, respectively. Furthermore, we revealed that NGR1 treatment attenuates BC progression by targeted downregulating CCND2 and YBX3 genes. Additionally, YBX3 activates phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway by activating kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene, which is an activator of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that NGR1 can act as an efficacious drug candidate that targets the YBX3/PI3K/Akt axis in patients with BC.

RESUMEN

Four types of half-sandwich ruthenium complexes with an N,O-coordinate mode based on hydroxyindanone-imine ligands have been prepared in good yields. These stable ruthenium complexes exhibited high activity in the catalytic synthesis of quinolines from the reactions of amino alcohols with different types of ketones or secondary alcohols under very mild conditions. Moreover, the methodology for the direct one-pot synthesis of tetrahydroquinoline derivatives from amino alcohols and ketones has been also developed on the basis of the continuous catalytic activity of this ruthenium catalyst in the selective hydrogenation of the obtained quinoline derivatives with a low catalyst loading. The corresponding products, quinolines and tetrahydroquinoline derivatives, were afforded in good to excellent yields. The efficient and diverse catalytic activity of these ruthenium complexes suggested their potential large-scale application. All of the ruthenium complexes were characterized by various spectroscopies to confirm their structures.
