RESUMEN

This article investigates a laser-directed energy deposition additive manufacturing (AM) method, based on coaxial powder feeding, for preparing quartz glass. Through synergistic optimization of line deposition and plane deposition experiments, key parameters of laser coaxial powder feeding AM were identified. The corresponding mechanical properties, thermal properties, and microstructure of the bulk parts were analyzed. The maximum mechanical strength of the obtained quartz glass element reached 72.36 ± 5.98 MPa, which is ca. 95% that of quartz glass prepared by traditional methods. The thermal properties of the obtained quartz glass element were also close to those prepared by traditional methods. The present research indicates that one can use laser AM technology that is based on coaxial powder feeding to form quartz glass with high density and good thermodynamic properties. Such quartz glass has substantial potential in, for example, optics and biomedicine.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has been proved to have similar oncological outcomes with open surgery. Due to the lack of tactile perception, surgeons may have misjudgments in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Therefore, the accurate localization of a tumor before surgery is important, especially in the early stages of cancer. Autologous blood was thought a feasible and safe tattooing agent for preoperative endoscopic localization but its benefits remain controversial. We therefore proposed this randomized trial to the accuracy and safety of autogenous blood localization in small, serosa-negative lesion which will be resected by laparoscopic colectomy. METHODS: The current study is a single-center, open-label, non-inferiority, randomized controlled trial. Eligible participants would be aged 18-80 years and diagnosed with large lateral spreading tumors that could not be treated endoscopically, malignant polyps treated endoscopically that required additional colorectal resection, and serosa-negative malignant colorectal tumors (≤ cT3). A total of 220 patients would be randomly assigned (1:1) to autologous blood group or intraoperative colonoscopy group. The primary outcome is the localization accuracy. The secondary endpoint is adverse events related to endoscopic tattooing. DISCUSSION: This trial will investigate whether autologous blood marker achieves similar localization accuracy and safety in laparoscopic colorectal surgery compared to intraoperative colonoscopy. If our research hypothesis is statistically proved, the rational introduction of autologous blood tattooing in preoperative colonoscopy can help improve identification of the location of tumors for laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery, performing an optimal resection, and minimizing unnecessary resections of normal tissues, thereby improving the patient's quality of life. Our research data will also provide high quality clinical evidence and data support for the conduction of multicenter phase III clinical trials. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05597384. Registered 28 October 2022.

BACKGROUND : There remain concerns regarding the technical feasibility of endoscopic resection for large gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), mainly relating to the risk of tumor rupture and the adequacy of the resection margins. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and therapeutic outcomes of the newly developed no-touch endoscopic full-thickness resection (NT-EFTR) technique for GISTs. METHODS : In this retrospective study, 92 patients with gastric GISTs undergoing NT-EFTR were included. Clinicopathological, endoscopic, and follow-up data were collected and analyzed. RESULTS : The median tumor size was 2.5 cm and en bloc resection was achieved in all patients with negative surgical margins. The median time of the NT-EFTR procedure was 59.5 minutes. Large tumors (> 3.0 cm), extraluminal tumor growth pattern, and large gastric defects were significant contributors to long operative times. Patients were discharged within 4 days postoperatively. During follow-up, all patients were free from local recurrence and distant metastasis. CONCLUSIONS : NT-EFTR was a feasible method for the resection of gastric GISTs and can be expected to achieve complete radical resection. Large tumors with extraluminal growth and large gastric defects impact procedural difficulty.

Background: An increasing number of studies have revealed the influencing factors of ferroptosis. The influence of immune cell infiltration, inflammation development and lipid metabolism in the tumor microenvironment (TME) on the ferroptosis of tumor cells requires further research and discussion. Methods: We explored the relationship between ferroptosis-related genes and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) from the perspective of large sample analysis and multiomics, used multiple groups to identify and verify ferroptosis-related molecular patterns, and analyzed the sensitivity to ferroptosis and the state of immune escape between different molecular pattern groups. The single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) algorithm was used to quantify the phenotypes of ferroptosis-related molecular patterns in individual patients. HL-60 and THP-1 cells were treated with ferroptosis inducer RSL3 to verify the therapeutic value of targeted inhibition of GPX4. Results: Three ferroptosis-related molecular patterns and progressively worsening phenotypes including immune activation, immune exclusion and immunosuppression were found with the two different sequencing approaches. The FSscore we constructed can quantify the development of ferroptosis-related phenotypes in individual patients. The higher the FSscore is, the worse the patient's prognosis. The FSscore is also highly positively correlated with pathological conditions such as inflammation development, immune escape, lipid metabolism, immunotherapy resistance, and chemotherapy resistance and is negatively correlated with tumor mutation burden. Moreover, RSL3 can induce ferroptosis of AML cells by reducing the protein level of GPX4. Conclusions: This study revealed the characteristics of immunity, inflammation, and lipid metabolism in the TME of different AML patients and differences in the sensitivity of tumor cells to ferroptosis. The FSscore can be used as a biomarker to provide a reference for the clinical evaluation of the pathological characteristics of AML patients and the design of personalized treatment plans. And GPX4 is a potential target for AML treatment.

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer is a major public health problem worldwide. Social media has affected public's daily lives in ways no one ever thought possible. Both TikoTok and its Chinese version Douyin are the most popular short video posting platform. This study aimed to evaluate the quality, accuracy, and completeness of videos for gastric cancer on TikTok and Douyin. METHODS: The terms "gastric cancer" was searched on TikTok in both English and Japanese, and on Douyin in Chinese. The first 100 videos in three languages (website's default setting) were checked. QUality Evaluation Scoring Tool (QUEST) and DISCERN as the instrument for assessing the quality of the information in each video. Content was analysed under six categories (aetiology, anatomy, symptoms, preventions, treatments, and prognosis). The educational value and completeness were evaluated with a checklist developed by the researchers. RESULTS: A total of 78 videos in English, 63 in Japanese, and 99 in Chinese were analyzed. The types of sources were as follows: 6.4% in English, 4.8% in Japanese, and 57.6% in Chinese for health professionals; 93.6% in English, 95.2% in Japanese, and 3.0% in Chinese for private users; none in English and Japanese, but 39.4% in Chinese for other sources. In all, 20.5% in English, 17.5% in Japanese, and 93.9% in Chinese of videos had useful information about gastric cancer. Among the useful videos, the videos published in Chinese had the highest QUEST(p < 0.05) and DISCERN scores(p < 0.05), followed by those published in Japanese. Among the educational videos, prognosis in English (37.5%), symptoms in Japanese (54.5%), and prevention in Chinese (47.3%) were the most frequently covered topic. CONCLUSIONS: TikTok in English and Japanese might not fully meet the gastric cancer information needs of public, but Douyin in Chinese was the opposite.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic resection approaches, including endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) and endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR), have been widely used for the treatment of submucosal tumors (SMTs) located in the upper gastrointestinal tract. However, compared to SMTs located in the esophagus or stomach, endoscopic resection of SMTs from the esophagogastric junction (EGJ) is much more difficult because of the sharp angle and narrow lumen of the EGJ. SMTs originating from the muscularis propria (MP) in the EGJ, especially those that grow extraluminally and adhere closely to the serosa, make endoscopic resection even more difficult. AIM: To investigate the predictors of difficult endoscopic resection for SMTs from the MP layer at the EGJ. METHODS: A total of 90 patients with SMTs from the MP layer at the EGJ were included in the present study. The difficulty of endoscopic resection was defined as a long procedure time, failure of en bloc resection and intraoperative bleeding. Clinicopathological, endoscopic and follow-up data were collected and analyzed. Statistical analysis of independent risks for piecemeal resection, long operative time, and intraoperative bleeding were assessed using univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS: According to the location and growth pattern of the tumor, 44 patients underwent STER, 14 patients underwent EFTR, and the remaining 32 patients received a standard ESD procedure. The tumor size was 20.0 mm (range 5.0-100.0 mm). Fourty-seven out of 90 lesions (52.2%) were regularly shaped. The overall en bloc resection rate was 84.4%. The operation time was 43 min (range 16-126 min). The intraoperative bleeding rate was 18.9%. There were no adverse events that required therapeutic intervention during or after the procedures. The surgical approach had no significant correlation with en bloc resection, long operative time or intraoperative bleeding. Large tumor size (≥ 30 mm) and irregular tumor shape were independent predictors for piecemeal resection (OR: 7.346, P = 0.032 and OR: 18.004, P = 0.029, respectively), long operative time (≥ 60 min) (OR: 47.330, P = 0.000 and OR: 6.863, P = 0.034, respectively) and intraoperative bleeding (OR: 20.631, P = 0.002 and OR: 19.020, P = 0.021, respectively). CONCLUSION: Endoscopic resection is an effective treatment for SMTs in the MP layer at the EGJ. Tumors with large size and irregular shape were independent predictors for difficult endoscopic resection.

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common malignancy of the hematological system, and there are currently a number of studies regarding abnormal alterations in energy metabolism, but fewer reports related to fatty acid metabolism (FAM) in AML. We therefore analyze the association of FAM and AML tumor development to explore targets for clinical prognosis prediction and identify those with potential therapeutic value. METHODS: The identification of AML patients with different fatty acid metabolism characteristics was based on a consensus clustering algorithm. The CIBERSORT algorithm was used to calculate the proportion of infiltrating immune cells. We used Cox regression analysis and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis to construct a signature for predicting the prognosis of AML patients. The Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer database was used to predict the sensitivity of patient samples in high- and low-risk score groups to different chemotherapy drugs. RESULTS: The consensus clustering approach identified three molecular subtypes of FAM that exhibited significant differences in genomic features such as immunity, metabolism, and inflammation, as well as patient prognosis. The risk-score model we constructed accurately predicted patient outcomes, with area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of 0.870, 0.878, and 0.950 at 1, 3, and 5 years, respectively. The validation cohort also confirmed the prognostic evaluation performance of the risk score. In addition, higher risk scores were associated with stronger fatty acid metabolisms, significantly higher expression levels of immune checkpoints, and significantly increased infiltration of immunosuppressive cells. Immune functions, such as inflammation promotion, para-inflammation, and type I/II interferon responses, were also significantly activated. These results demonstrated that immunotherapy targeting immune checkpoints and immunosuppressive cells, such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and M2 macrophages, are more suitable for patients with high-risk scores. Finally, the prediction results of chemotherapeutic drugs showed that samples in the high-risk score group had greater treatment sensitivity to four chemotherapy drugs in vitro. CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of the molecular patterns of FAM effectively predicted patient prognosis and revealed various tumor microenvironment (TME) characteristics.

Accumulated genetic mutations are an important cause for the development of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but abnormal changes in the inflammatory microenvironment also have regulatory effects on AML. Exploring the relationship between inflammatory response and pathological features of AML has implications for clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis evaluation. We analyzed the expression variation landscape of inflammatory response-related genes (IRRGs) and calculated an inflammatory response score for each sample using the gene set variation analysis (GSVA) algorithm. The differences in clinical- and immune-related characteristics between high- and low-inflammatory response groups were further analyzed. We found that most IRRGs were highly expressed in AML samples, and patients with high inflammatory response had poor prognosis and were accompanied with highly activated chemokine-, cytokine- and adhesion molecule-related signaling pathways, higher infiltration ratios of monocytes, neutrophils and M2 macrophages, high activity of type I/II interferon (IFN) response, and higher expression of immune checkpoints. We also used the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC) database to predict the sensitivity of AML samples with different inflammatory responses to common drugs, and found that AML samples with low inflammatory response were more sensitive to cytarabine, doxorubicin and midostaurin. SubMap algorithm also demonstrated that high-inflammatory response patients are more suitable for anti-PD-1 immunotherapy. Finally, we constructed a prognostic risk score model to predict the overall survival (OS) of AML patients. Patients with higher risk score had significantly shorter OS, which was confirmed in two validation cohorts. The analysis of inflammatory response patterns can help us better understand the differences in tumor microenvironment (TME) of AML patients, and guide clinical medication and prognosis prediction.

BACKGROUND: The adherence of oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy among nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in China during recent years was unclear, and the possible factors that influenced the initiation and persistent use of OAC were needed to be explored. METHODS: A total of 1085 NVAF patients, who experienced new-onset and nonfatal AIS from August 2011 to December 2020 during follow-ups in the China Atrial Fibrillation Registry (China-AF), were enrolled. Information including patients' demographic characteristics, medical history, medication usage, which were collected before and after the index stroke, were used in the analysis. RESULTS: OAC was initiated in 40% (434/1085) NVAF patients within 3 months after new-onset AIS. High-reimbursement-rate insurance coverage (odds ratio [OR]: 1.51, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.03-2.22, p = .036), 3-month-peri-stroke AF episodes (OR: 2.63, 95% CI: 1.88-3.69, p < .001), and pre-stroke OAC usage (OR: 8.92, 95% CI: 6.01-13.23, p < .001), were positively associated with initiation of OAC within 3 months after new-onset AIS, while age (OR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.96-1.00, p = .024), female (OR: 0.63, 95% CI: 0.44-0.90, p = .012) and higher modified HASBLED score (OR: 0.45, 95% CI: 0.37-0.55, p < .001) were negatively associated with it. Among 3-month-post-stroke OAC users, history of radiofrequency ablation (hazard ratio: 1.65, 95% CI: 1.16-2.35; p = .006) was positively associated with non-persistence of OAC usage. CONCLUSIONS: In China, the proportion of NVAF patients who initiated OAC therapy since new-onset AIS was still low. More efforts are needed on improving patients' adherence to anticoagulant therapy.

OBJECTIVES: The resection margin (RM) status and microscopic vascular invasion (MVI) are known prognostic factors for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). An enhanced understanding of their impact on long-term prognosis is required to improve oncological outcomes. METHODS: A total of 711 consecutive patients who underwent curative liver resection for hepatitis B virus-related ICC were retrospectively analyzed. The different impact of the RM status (narrow, <1 cm, or wide, ≥1 cm) and MVI (positive, +, or negative, -) on overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were analyzed. RESULTS: The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 67.6%, 42.5%, and 33.2% in wide RM & MVI (-), 58.0%, 36.1%, and 26.5% in narrow RM & MVI (-), 51.0%, 27.0%, and 24.3% in wide RM & MVI (+), and 39.0%, 20.4% and 14.3% in narrow RM & MVI (+) (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that RM & MVI were independent risk factors for the OS and RFS. CONCLUSION: Combined analysis of RM and MVI can better stratify the risks of postoperative death and recurrence in patients with HBV-related ICC, which may help subsequent adjuvant therapy and closer follow-up.

Osteoarthritis (OA), one of the most common motor system disorders, is a degenerative disease involving progressive joint destruction caused by a variety of factors. At present, OA has become the fourth most common cause of disability in the world. However, the pathogenesis of OA is complex and has not yet been clarified. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) refers to a group of RNAs more than 200 nucleotides in length with limited protein-coding potential, which have a wide range of biological functions including regulating transcriptional patterns and protein activity, as well as binding to form endogenous small interference RNAs (siRNAs) and natural microRNA (miRNA) molecular sponges. In recent years, a large number of lncRNAs have been found to be differentially expressed in a variety of pathological processes of OA, including extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, synovial inflammation, chondrocyte apoptosis, and angiogenesis. Obviously, lncRNAs play important roles in regulating gene expression, maintaining the phenotype of cartilage and synovial cells, and the stability of the intra-articular environment. This article reviews the results of the latest research into the role of lncRNAs in a variety of pathological processes of OA, in order to provide a new direction for the study of OA pathogenesis and a new target for prevention and treatment. BACKGROUND: Imatinib (IM), a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), has markedly improved the survival and life quality of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. However, the lack of specific biomarkers for IM resistance remains a serious clinical challenge. Recently, growing evidence has suggested that exosome-harbored proteins were involved in tumor drug resistance and could be novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and drug sensitivity prediction of cancer. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the proteomic profile of plasma exosomes derived from CML patients to identify ideal biomarkers for IM resistance. METHODS: We extracted exosomes from pooled plasma samples of 9 imatinib-resistant CML patients and 9 imatinib-sensitive CML patients by ultracentrifugation. Then, we identified the expression levels of exosomal proteins by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) based label free quantification. Bioinformatics analyses were used to analyze the proteomic data. Finally, the western blot (WB) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) analyses were applied to validate the candidate proteins. RESULTS: A total of 2812 proteins were identified in plasma exosomes from imatinib-resistant and imatinib-sensitive CML patients, including 279 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) with restricted criteria (fold change≥1.5 or ≤0.667, p<0.05). Compared with imatinib-sensitive CML patients, 151 proteins were up-regulated and 128 proteins were down-regulated. Bioinformatics analyses revealed that the main function of the upregulated proteins was regulation of protein synthesis, while the downregulated proteins were mainly involved in lipid metabolism. The top 20 hub genes were obtained using STRING and Cytoscape, most of which were components of ribosomes. Moreover, we found that RPL13 and RPL14 exhibited exceptional upregulation in imatinib-resistant CML patients, which were further confirmed by PRM and WB. CONCLUSION: Proteomic analysis of plasma exosomes provides new ideas and important information for the study of IM resistance in CML. Especially the exosomal proteins (RPL13 and RPL14), which may have great potential as biomarkers of IM resistance.

X-inactive-specific transcript (XIST) is a 19 kb noncoding RNA which is oncogenic in many cancers including gastric cancer. It is reported that XIST contributes to gastric cancer cells resistant to cisplatin, but specific mechanisms governing this resistance remain unclear. We firstly examined the XIST level in gastric cancer cells and tumor specimens. We confirmed that XIST is overexpressed in gastric cancer cells and tumors, which further contributed to the poor prognosis of patients with gastric cancer. We also confirmed that high XIST level contributes to the cisplatin resistance in gastric cancer cells. Subsequently, we predicted microRNAs that have the potential to interact with XIST and found that Let-7b-5p may directly interact with XIST. We confirmed the direct interaction between XIST and Let-7b-5p and identified a negative correlation between the level of Let-7b-5p and XIST in gastric cancer tumors. Meanwhile, Let-7b-5p inhibitor treatment can partially rescued the effect of XIST-specific small interfering RNA on cell proliferation and apoptosis by regulating Aurora kinase B expression. XIST functions as an oncogene in gastric cancer which contributes to the cisplatin resistance by interacting with Let-7b-5p.

Imatinib mesylate (IM) resistance has become a major clinical problem for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). It is known that Bcl-x splicing is deregulated and is involved in multiple malignant cancer initiation and chemotherapy resistance, including CML. The aim of the present study was to correct the abnormal splicing of Bcl-x in CML and investigate the subsequent malignant phenotype changes, especially response to IM. The aberrant Bcl-x splicing in CML cells was effectively restored using vivo-Morpholino Antisense Oligomer (vMO). CCK-8 cell viability assay and flow cytometry showed that restoring of Bcl-x splicing increases IM-induced growth inhibition and apoptosis of K562 cells. Moreover, a more significant similar phenomenon was observed in imatinib-resistant CML cell lines K562/G01. Finally, establishment of CML xenograft model had also proved that correcting Bcl-x splicing in vivo can also enhance the anti-tumor effect of IM. Our findings suggest that vMO co-operating with IM can effectively increase the sensitivity of CML cells to IM both in vitro and in vivo, and Bcl-x splicing could become good candidates for chemotherapy-sensitized target in IM-resistant CML.

Serum samples were tested for Bartonella henselae IgG antibodies using indirect immunofluorescence assays. We then analyzed associated risk factors. Serum samples were considered positive when reactive at a dilution of more than 1:320. Differences between groups and risk factors associated with Bartonella exposure were statistically analyzed using Chi-square tests and the generalized linear model. 122 of 1,260 samples (9.68%) were positive for B. henselae infection. The infection rate ranged from 0% to 30.43% and differed significantly among age groups ( P < 0.01); infection rate in the 50-59 years group was significantly higher than that in other age groups. The seroprevalence of Bartonella varied significantly among sites within the four provinces, and the infection rate of field workers was significantly higher than that of urban workers.

The rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, produces natural rubber that serves as an essential industrial raw material. Here, we present a high-quality reference genome for a rubber tree cultivar GT1 using single-molecule real-time sequencing (SMRT) and Hi-C technologies to anchor the ∼1.47-Gb genome assembly into 18 pseudochromosomes. The chromosome-based genome analysis enabled us to establish a model of spurge chromosome evolution, since the common paleopolyploid event occurred before the split of Hevea and Manihot. We show recent and rapid bursts of the three Hevea-specific LTR-retrotransposon families during the last 10 million years, leading to the massive expansion by ∼65.88% (∼970 Mbp) of the whole rubber tree genome since the divergence from Manihot. We identify large-scale expansion of genes associated with whole rubber biosynthesis processes, such as basal metabolic processes, ethylene biosynthesis, and the activation of polysaccharide and glycoprotein lectin, which are important properties for latex production. A map of genomic variation between the cultivated and wild rubber trees was obtained, which contains ∼15.7 million high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphisms. We identified hundreds of candidate domestication genes with drastically lowered genomic diversity in the cultivated but not wild rubber trees despite a relatively short domestication history of rubber tree, some of which are involved in rubber biosynthesis. This genome assembly represents key resources for future rubber tree research and breeding, providing novel targets for improving plant biotic and abiotic tolerance and rubber production.

Accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the articular cartilage is a major risk factor for osteoarthritis (OA). To determine the mechanistic basis of AGE action in OA, we treated human articular chondrocytes with AGEs, and found that they not only up-regulated the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1ß and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, but also inhibited AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation and decreased sirtuin 1 (SIRT-1) levels in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Pioglitazone, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) agonist restored the inhibited AMPK and SIRT-1 by AGEs. Pre-treatment of the cells with the agonists or antagonists of AMPK and SIRT-1 respectively abolished and augmented the inflammatory state induced by AGEs. Furthermore, AMPK agonist also restored the levels of SIRT-1 in the AGE-stimulated chondrocytes. Our findings indicate AGEs induce an inflammatory response in human articular chondrocytes via the PPARγ/AMPK/SIRT-1 pathway, which is therefore a potential target in OA therapy.

BACKGROUND: We aim to investigate the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (3-5 cm) in comparison with surgical resection. METHODS: Included in this study were 388 patients with primary and solitary hepatocellular carcinoma, of whom 196 patients underwent surgical resection and the other 192 patients received radiofrequency ablation. Clinicopathological characteristics, prognosis, post-treatment complications, hospital stay, and financial expenditures between the two groups were compared retrospectively. RESULTS: The result of propensity score matching and subgroup analysis showed that the 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival and disease-free survival were comparable in patients with tumors of 3-4 cm in diameter between surgical resection and radiofrequency ablation groups. However, when the tumor size exceeded 4 cm in diameter, surgical resection exhibited a superior long-term prognosis compared with radiofrequency ablation. Nevertheless, hepatectomy was associated with high occurrences of postoperative complications, long hospital stay, and high hospitalization cost as compared with radiofrequency ablation. Further analysis of the relationship between tumor size and pathological features of hepatocellular carcinoma showed that tumors larger than 4 cm were positively correlated with a high rate of microvascular invasion and satellite nodule formation. CONCLUSION: For solitary hepatocellular carcinoma of 3-4 cm in diameter, radiofrequency ablation could achieve a comparable prognosis with a low incidence of post-treatment complications and low hospitalization costs, while surgical resection is recommended for solitary hepatocellular carcinoma tumors of 4-5 cm in diameter when long-term prognosis is considered.
