BACKGROUND: Despite the increasing use of robotic gastrectomy (RG) as an alternative to laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) in treating gastric cancer, controversy remains over the advantages of RG compared to LG and there is a paucity of studies comparing the two techniques regarding patient survival. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 675 patients undergoing minimally invasive gastrectomy were recruited from January 2016 to January 2018 (LG: n = 567; RG: n = 108). A one-to-one propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was applied to minimize the selection bias due to confounding factors, yielding 104 patients in each of the RG and LG groups. After matching, the short-term outcomes and 3-year overall survival were compared in the two groups. RESULTS: The PSM cohort analysis showed a similar 3-year overall survival between RG and LG groups (p = .249). Concerning the short-term outcomes, the RG compared to LG resulted in lower blood loss (p = .01), lower postoperative complications (p = .001), lower postoperative pain (p = .016), earlier initiation of soft diet (p = .011), shorter hospital stay |(p = .012), but higher hospitalization expenses (p = .001). CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that RG may offer advantages in terms of blood loss, surgical complications, recovery time, and pain management compared to LG while maintaining similar overall survival rates. However, RG is associated with higher hospital costs, potentially limiting its wider adoption. Further research, including large, multi-center randomized controlled trials with longer patient follow-up, particularly for advanced gastric cancer, is needed to confirm these findings.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with depression who engage in non-suicidal self harming behaviors are more likely to adopt negative coping strategies when faced with negative events. Therefore, these patients should be introduced to positive coping strategies. Evidences have showed that mindfulness-based interventions can positively impact the psychology of patients with mental disorders. This study was to explore the impact of a combination of mindfulness therapy and mentalization-based family therapy (MBFT) on suicidal ideation in adolescents with depressive disorder. METHODS: Eighty adolescent patients with depression and suicidal ideation admitted to our hospital from September 2021 to February 2022 were selected as subjects. They were divided into a control group and a study group using the random number table method, with each group comprising 40 subjects. The control group received MBFT, whereas the study group received both mindfulness therapy and MBFT. The psychological status and suicidal ideations of the two groups were compared before and after the intervention. RESULTS: The psychological health scores of both groups of patients were lower after the intervention, with the scores of the study group being lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). The scores on the suicidal ideation scales for both groups were lower after intervention, and the study group scored lower than the control group (P < 0.05). The absolute values of the differences in psychological health scale scores and suicidal ideation scale scores before and after the intervention were higher in the study group than in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The combination of mindfulness therapy and MBFT can improve the psychological condition of adolescents with depression, reduce their suicidal ideations, and help them develop a healthy and positive outlook toward life, making this method worthy of clinical recommendation.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is a malignancy that poses a threat to woman's health worldwide. Building upon prior work, we explored the inhibitory effect of verteporfin on EC. We showed that verteporfin can damage the mitochondria of EC cells, leading to a decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential and an increase in ROS (reactive oxygen species). In addition, verteporfin treatment was shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of EC cells, promote apoptosis, and reduce the expression of mitophagy-related proteins PINK1/parkin and TOM20. The ROS inhibitor N-Acetyl Cysteine was able to rescue the expression of PINK1/parkin proteins. This suggests that verteporfin may inhibit mitophagy by elevating ROS levels, thereby inhibiting EC cell viability. The effect of verteporfin on mitophagy supports further investigation as a potential therapeutic option for EC.

There has been limited examination of child road injury policies. This study aims to systematically characterize national policies relevant to child road safety in China over the past two decades and identify potential gaps based on the WHO child road safety framework. As a scoping review, this study searched for national policies for child road safety on the websites of government agencies. A total of 22,487 policies were searched, of which 103 policies issued by 37 institutions, were included in the analysis, including 12 policies jointly developed by multiple agencies. Mapping identified policies to strategies in the WHO framework, most WHO strategies requiring legislation were found to be in place in China and to fully meet the intent of the WHO recommendation. The single exception was in the area of child restraints which was deemed to not be fully covered due to a lack of eligible policies on enforcement of child restraint use laws. Two strategies requiring standards were fully covered; eight strategies requiring policy support were partially or not covered, mainly related to equipping emergency vehicles with child-appropriate medical equipment. Enhancing school bus safety was identified as a policy focus area in China beyond those recommended by the WHO framework. This study identified three areas for improvement: (1) strengthening road safety policies targeting children, (2) strengthening enforcement of legislation, e.g., child restraint use, and (3) increasing multiple-sector cooperation on policy formulation. OBJECTIVE: A capsule robot (CR) with an onboard active locomotion mechanism, has been developed as a promising alternative to colonoscopy due to its minimally-invasive advantage. Predicting the traction force and locomotion resistance of the CR, which are both the friction force, is significantly important for the CR development and control. However, a comprehensive study concerning the coefficient of friction (COF) in the colon, which is necessary for prediction, is not available in literature. This paper is dedicated to determining a quantitative COF equation in terms of the contact pressure, hoop strain, and sliding velocity. METHODS: The COFs of three commonly-used materials of the CR (i.e., PDMS, white and transparent ABS plastic), are measured under 144 different friction cases (6 contact pressures×4 hoop strains×6 sliding velocities). By analyzing the measurements, the influence law of the three factors on the COFs of the three materials is revealed, and based on which, a general COF equation involving eight fitted constants is determined. RESULTS: The determination coefficients of the COF equation for the three materials are up to 0.9822, 0.9286, and 0.9696, respectively. The COF equation is used to predict the traction force and locomotion resistance of a crawler CR, and the predicting results fit well with the measured ones. CONCLUSION: The COF equation can provide a correct COF for friction force prediction. SIGNIFICANCE: It is promising to enable a better force and locomotion control for the CR in the colon.

BACKGROUND: A variety of viruses can cause acute respiratory infections (ARIs), resulting in a high disease burden worldwide. To explore the dominant viruses and their prevalence characteristics in children with ARIs, comprehensive surveillance was carried out in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai. METHODS: Between January 2013 and December 2022, the basic and clinical information, and respiratory tract specimens of 0-14 years old children with ARIs were collected in five sentinel hospitals in Shanghai Pudong. Each specimen was tested for eight respiratory viruses, and the positive rates of different age groups, case types (inpatient or outpatient) were analyzed. RESULTS: In our study, 30.67% (1294/4219) children with ARIs were positive for at least one virus. Influenza virus (IFV) was the most commonly detected respiratory virus (349/4219, 8.27%), followed by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (217/4219, 5.14%), para-influenza virus (PIV) (215/4219, 5.10%), and human coronavirus (HCoV, including 229E, OC43, NL63, and HKU1) (184/4219, 4.36%). IFV was the leading respiratory virus in outpatients aged 5-14 years (201/1673, 12.01%); RSV was the most prevalent respiratory virus in both inpatients (61/238, 25.63%) and outpatients (4/50, 8.00%) for ARI patients aged <6 months old. For PIV, HMPV, HCoV, and HRV, the risk of infection usually was higher among young children. Co-infection with more than two viruses was seen in 3.25% (137/4219). CONCLUSIONS: IFV and RSV played important roles in ARIs among children, but the risk populations were different. There are needs for targeted diagnosis and treatment and necessary immunization and non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Achiral solvents are commonly utilized to induce the self-assembly of chiral molecules. This study demonstrates that achiral solvents can trigger helicity inversion in the assemblies of dansyl amphiphiles and control the excited-state "majority rule" in assemblies composed of pure enantiomers, through variation of the cosolvent ratio. Specifically, enantiomers of dansyl amphiphiles self-assemble into helical structures with opposite handedness in methanol (MeOH) and acetonitrile (MeCN), together with inversed circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals. When a mixture of MeOH and MeCN is employed, the achiral cosolvents collectively affect the CPL of the assemblies in a way similar to that of "mixed enantiomers". The dominant cosolvent governs the CPL signal. As the cosolvent composition shifts from pure MeCN to MeOH, the CPL signals undergo a significant inversion and amplification, with two maxima observed at ≈20% MeOH and 20% MeCN. This study deepens the comprehension of how achiral solvents modulate helical nanostructures and their excited-state chiroptical properties.

Full-Stokes polarization detection, with high integration and portability, offers an efficient path toward next-gen multi-information optoelectronic systems. Nevertheless, current techniques relying on optical filters create rigid and bulky configurations, limiting practicality. Here, we first report a flexible, filter-less full-Stokes polarimeter featuring a uniaxial-oriented chiral perovskite film. We find that, the strategic manipulation of the surfactant-mediated Marangoni effect during blade coating, is crucial for guiding an equilibrious mass transport to achieve oriented crystallization. Through this approach, the obtained uniaxial-oriented chiral perovskite films inherently possess anisotropy and chirality, and thereby with desired sensitivity to both Linearly Polarized Light (LPL) and Circularly Polarized Light (CPL) vectors. The uniaxial-oriented crystalline structure also improves photodetection, achieving a specific detectivity of 5.23 × 1013 Jones, surpassing non-oriented devices by 10x. The as-fabricated flexible polarimeters enable accurate capture of full-Stokes polarization without optical filters, exhibiting slight detection errors for the Stokes parameters: ΔS1 = 9.2%, ΔS2 = 8.6%, and ΔS3 = 6.5%, approaching the detection accuracy of optics-filter polarimeters. AIMS: Previous studies have shown that higher hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels within the normal range during pregnancy can increase the risk of adverse birth outcomes. However, the effects of the longitudinal HbA1c trajectory during pregnancy on adverse birth outcomes among non-gestational diabetic women are poorly characterized. We aimed to identify HbA1c trajectory during pregnancy among non-gestational diabetic women and to estimate their associations with adverse birth outcomes. METHODS: Data was extracted from the Information System of Guangdong Women and Children Hospital, China, from January 2017 to July 2022. This study involved 13,979 women who did not have gestational diabetes mellitus and underwent repeated HbA1c measurements during pregnancy. Latent mixture modeling was used to identify HbA1c trajectory groups. Logistic regression was applied to explore the associations between HbA1c trajectory groups and adverse birth outcomes, including preterm delivery, low birth weight, macrosomia, small for gestational age, and large for gestational age (LGA). RESULTS: Three HbA1c trajectory groups were identified: low-stable (range 4.0% [20 mmol/mol]-4.4% [25 mmol/mol]), moderate-stable (range 4.6% [27 mmol/mol]-5.1% [32 mmol/mol]), and elevated-increasing (range 5.0% [31 mmol/mol]-5.6% [38 mmol/mol]). Compared with the low-stable HbA1c group, the elevated-increasing group had a higher risk of preterm delivery and LGA. The adjusted OR (95% CIs) were 1.67 (1.13, 2.49) and 1.47 (1.01, 2.12) for preterm delivery and LGA, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Among non-gestational diabetic women, the elevated-increasing HbA1c trajectory group was associated with a higher risk of preterm delivery and LGA. This finding emphasizes the importance of maintaining optimal HbA1c levels throughout pregnancy.

Disease modeling with isogenic Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC)-differentiated organoids serves as a powerful technique for studying disease mechanisms. Multiplexed coculture is crucial to mitigate batch effects when studying the genetic effects of disease-causing variants in differentiated iPSCs or organoids, and demultiplexing at the single-cell level can be conveniently achieved by assessing natural genetic barcodes. Here, to enable cost-efficient time-series experimental designs via multiplexed bulk and single-cell RNA-seq of hybrids, we introduce a computational method in our Vireo Suite, Vireo-bulk, to effectively deconvolve pooled bulk RNA-seq data by genotype reference, and thereby quantify donor abundance over the course of differentiation and identify differentially expressed genes among donors. Furthermore, with multiplexed scRNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq, we demonstrate the usefulness and necessity of a pooled design to reveal donor iPSC line heterogeneity during macrophage cell differentiation and to model rare WT1 mutation-driven kidney disease with chimeric organoids. Our work provides an experimental and analytic pipeline for dissecting disease mechanisms with chimeric organoids.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a highly pathogenic and rapidly disseminated virus with strong viability in the environment, suggesting the importance of environmental detection for prevention and control in all the pig industry. However, the detection results of environmental swabs cannot always reflect the accurate status of viral pollution, leading to persistent ASFV environmental contamination. In this study, we developed an ASFV eluant with higher environmental ASFV detection efficiency relative to 0.85% saline solution, which obtains the patent certificate issued by the China Intellectual Property Office (patent number:202010976050.9). qPCR analysis showed that in the environmental swab samples, the number of viral copies was 100 times higher for the ASFV eluant treatment than the traditional eluant treatment (0.85% saline solution). And besides, the high sensitivity of the ASFV eluant had be verified in a slaughterhouse environmental sampling detection. In soil samples, the ASFV eluent showed the same extraction effect as the TIANamp Soil DNA Kit, in contrast to no extraction effect for 0.85% saline solution. Simultaneously, this eluent could protect ASFV from degradation and allow the transportation of samples at ambient temperature without refrigeration. In clinical practice, we monitored the environmental contamination condition of the ASFV in a large-scale pig farm. The results shown that the ASFV load decreased after every disinfection in environment. This study provides an effective solution for surveilling the potential threat of ASFV in environment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) has been reported to be closely associated with the development of osteoarthritis (OA), but the underlying mechanisms are not fully delineated. The present study was designed to investigate the involvement of ERS-related genes in regulating OA progression. METHODS: The expression profiles of OA patients and normal people were downloaded from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in datasets GSE55457 and GSE55235 were screened and identified by R software with the construction of the protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Through the STRING and Venn diagram analysis, hub ERS-related genes were obtained. Gene ontology (GO) and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were performed. Biomarkers with high diagnostic values of osteoarthritis (OA) were studied. The hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining and micro-CT were applied to evaluate the establishment of the OA model. The expression levels of biomarkers were validated with the use of reverse transcription­quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot. Finally, we evaluated the correlations of hub ERS-related genes with the immune infiltration cells via the CIBERSORT algorithm. RESULTS: A total of 60 downregulated and 52 upregulated DEGs were identified, and the following GO and KEGG pathway analyses verified that those DEGs were mainly enriched in biological process (BP), cellular component (CC), molecular function (MF), and inflammation-associated signal pathways. Interestingly, among all the DEGs, six ER stress-associated genes, including activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), DEAD-Box Helicase 3 X-Linked (DDX3X), AP-1 transcription factor subunit (JUN), eukaryotic initiation factor 4 (EIF4A1), KDEL endoplasmic reticulum protein retention receptor 3 (KDELR3), and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), were found to be closely associated with OA progression, and the following RT-qPCR and Western Blot analysis confirmed that DDX3X, JUN, and VEGFA were upregulated, whereas KDELR3, EIF4A1, and ATF3 were downregulated in OA rats tissues compared to the normal tissues, which were in accordance with our bioinformatics findings. Furthermore, our receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis verified that the above six ER stress-associated genes could be used as ideal biomarkers for OA diagnosis and those genes also potentially regulated immune responses by influencing the biological functions of mast cells and macrophages. CONCLUSION: Collectively, the present study firstly identified six ER stress-associated genes (ATF3, DDX3X, JUN, EIF4A1, KDELR3, and VEGFA) that may play critical role in regulating the progression of OA.

Altered Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA), including leucine, isoleucine and valine, are frequently observed in patients with advanced cancer. We evaluated the efficacy of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cell-mediated cancer cell lysis potential in the immune microenvironment of BCAA supplementation and deletion. BCAA supplementation increased cancer cell killing percentage, while accelerating BCAA catabolism and deceasing BCAA transporter decreased cancer cell lysis efficacy. We thus designed BCKDK engineering CAR T cells for the reprogramming of BCAA metabolism in the tumor microenvironment based on the genotype and phenotype modification. BCKDK overexpression (OE) in CAR-T cells significantly improved cancer cell lysis, while BCKDK knockout (KO) resulted in inferior lysis potential. In an in vivo experiment, BCKDK-OE CAR-T cells treatment significantly prolonged the survival of mice bearing NALM6-GL cancer cells, with the differentiation of central memory cells and the increasing proportion of CAR-T cells in peripheral circulation. BCKDK-KO CAR-T cells treatment resulted in shorter survival and decreasing percentage of CAR-T cells in peripheral circulation. In conclusion, BCKDK engineered CAR-T cells exert distinct phenotype for the superior anticancer efficiency.

Fusarium crown rot, caused by Fusarium pseudograminearum, is a devastating disease affecting the yield and quality of cereal crops. Peroxisomes are single-membrane organelles that play a critical role in various biological processes in eukaryotic cells. To functionally characterise peroxisome biosynthetic receptor proteins FpPEX5 and FpPEX7 in F. pseudograminearum, we constructed deletion mutants, ΔFpPEX5 and ΔFpPEX7, and complementary strains, ΔFpPEX5-C and ΔFpPEX7-C, and analysed the functions of FpPEX5 and FpPEX7 proteins using various phenotypic observations. The deletion of FpPEX5 and FpPEX7 resulted in a significant deficiency in mycelial growth and conidiation and blocked the peroxisomal targeting signal 1 and peroxisomal targeting signal 2 pathways, which are involved in peroxisomal matrix protein transport, increasing the accumulation of lipid droplets and reactive oxygen species. The deletion of FpPEX5 and FpPEX7 may reduce the formation of toxigenic bodies and decrease the pathogenicity of F. pseudograminearum. These results indicate that FpPEX5 and FpPEX7 play vital roles in the growth, asexual reproduction, virulence, and fatty acid utilisation of F. pseudograminearum. This study provides a theoretical basis for controlling stem rot in wheat.

Key Clinical Message: Antipsychotic drug treatment is a commonly used therapeutic strategy in the field of psychiatry. Rational and standardized use of antipsychotics is crucial in clinical practice, and excessive use of antipsychotics may lead to severe toxic reactions. Thus, attention should be given to the monitoring of drug concentration and examination of organ function. Abstract: Excessive use of antipsychotics can cause a variety of adverse effects, including dysfunction of the liver and other organs. Liver cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes play an important role in the metabolism of antipsychotics, and metabolizer types of CYP450 enzymes may influence the therapeutic effects. In this case report, we introduced a 52-year-old woman with a 23-year history of schizophrenia who took excessive doses of multiple antipsychotics and other herbal preparations for nearly 2 years, with poor response to treatment and minor side reactions to the antipsychotics. Pharmacogenomic examination showed that this patient was a CYP1A2 ultra-rapid metabolizer. The examination and treatment of this patient may provide a reference for the management of similar cases with poor response to an alarming tolerance for antipsychotics.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a prevalent gastrointestinal cancer characterized by high mortality and an unfavorable prognosis. While combination therapies involving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are advancing, targeted therapy for ESCC remains underdeveloped. As a result, the overall five-year survival rate for ESCC is still below 20%. Herein, ESCC-specific DNA aptamers and an innovative aptamer-modified nano-system is introduced for targeted drug and gene delivery to effectively inhibit ESCC. The EA1 ssDNA aptamer, which binds robustly to ESCC cells with high specificity and affinity, is identified using cell-based systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (cell-SELEX). An EA1-modified nano-system is developed using a natural egg yolk lipid nanovector (EA1-EYLNs-PTX/siEFNA1) that concurrently loads paclitaxel (PTX) and a small interfering RNA of Ephrin A1 (EFNA1). This combination counters ESCC's proliferation, migration, invasion, and lung metastasis. Notably, EFNA1 is overexpressed in ESCC tumors with lung metastasis and has an inverse correlation with ESCC patient prognosis. The EA1-EYLNs-PTX/siEFNA1 nano-system offers effective drug delivery and tumor targeting, resulting in significantly improved therapeutic efficacy against ESCC tumors. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Myoglobin (Mb) induced death of renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs) is a major pathological factor in crush syndrome-related acute kidney injury (CS-AKI). It is unclear whether ferroptosis is involved and could be a target for treatment. PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the potential therapeutic effects of combining the natural small molecule rosemarinic acid (RA) and the iron chelator deferasirox (Dfe) on CS-AKI through inhibition of ferroptosis. METHODS: Sequencing data were downloaded from the GEO database, and differential expression analysis was performed using the R software limma package. The CS-AKI mouse model was constructed by squeezing the bilateral thighs of mice for 16 h with 1.5 kg weight. TCMK1 and NRK-52E cells were induced with 200 µM Mb and then treated with RA combined with Dfe (Dfe + RA, both were 10 µM). Functional and pathological changes in mouse kidney were evaluated by glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and HE pathology. Immunofluorescence assay was used to detect Mb levels in kidney tissues. The expression levels of ACSL4, GPX4, Keap1, and Nrf2 were analyzed by WB. RESULTS: We found that AKI mice in the GSE44925 cohort highly expressed the ferroptosis markers ACSL4 and PTGS2. CS-AKI mice showed a rapid decrease in GFR, up-regulation of ACSL4 expression in kidney tissue, and down-regulation of GPX4 expression, indicating activation of the ferroptosis pathway. Mb was found to deposit in renal tubules, and it has been proven to cause ferroptosis in TCMK1 and NRK-52E cells in vitro. We found that Dfe had a strong iron ion scavenging effect and inhibited ACSL4 expression. RA could disrupt the interaction between Keap1 andNrf2, stabilize Nrf2, and promote its nuclear translocation, thereby exerting antioxidant effects. The combination of Dfe and RA effectively reversed Mb induced ferroptosis in RTECs. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, we found that RA combined with Dfe attenuated CS-AKI by inhibiting Mb-induced ferroptosis in RTECs via activating the Nrf2/Keap1 pathway.

INTRODUCTION: the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been found to correlate with outcomes following radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer (GC). OBJECTIVES: to construct a nomogram combining PNI and PLR for individually forecasting the risk of postoperative pulmonary infection (POI) following D2 radical gastrectomy for GC. METHODS: retrospectively, clinical data was gathered from 404 patients treated with D2 radical gastrectomy for GC. The study used multivariate logistic regression analysis to screen independent risk factors for POI after surgery. Subsequently, a nomogram was developed based on the above factors to forecast the POI probability accurately. RESULTS: the multivariate logistic regression analysis identified age, PNI, PLR, CA199 level, ASA score, and ICU treatment as independent risk variables for POI following D2 radical gastrectomy (p < 0.001 or 0.05). The nomogram's area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for predicting the risk of POI was 0.736 (95 % confidence interval (CI) = 0.678-0.794). The nomogram was internally validated using the bootstrap approach, involving repeated sampling 1000 times. The result yielded a concordance index (c-index) of 0.707 (95 % CI = 0.705-0.709). The calibration curves demonstrated an excellent concordance between the predicted values of the nomogram and the observed values. The nomogram's clinical value was shown to be high using decision analysis curves. CONCLUSIONS: a nomogram combining PNI and PLR is a dependable tool for forecasting the probability of POI following D2 radical gastrectomy for GC.

Infectious diseases caused by bacterial infections are common in clinical practice. Cell membrane coating nanotechnology represents a pioneering approach for the delivery of therapeutic agents without being cleared by the immune system in the meantime. And the mechanism of infection treatment should be divided into two parts: suppression of pathogenic bacteria and suppression of excessive immune response. The membrane-coated nanoparticles exert anti-bacterial function by neutralizing exotoxins and endotoxins, and some other bacterial proteins. Inflammation, the second procedure of bacterial infection, can also be suppressed through targeting the inflamed site, neutralization of toxins, and the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. And platelet membrane can affect the complement process to suppress inflammation. Membrane-coated nanoparticles treat bacterial infections through the combined action of membranes and nanoparticles, and diagnose by imaging, forming a theranostic system. Several strategies have been discovered to enhance the anti-bacterial/anti-inflammatory capability, such as synthesizing the material through electroporation, pretreating with the corresponding pathogen, membrane hybridization, or incorporating with genetic modification, lipid insertion, and click chemistry. Here we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current knowledge regarding the application of membrane-coated nanoparticles in preventing bacterial infections as well as addressing existing uncertainties and misconceptions. .
