RESUMEN

Lithium nickel oxide (LiNiO2) cathode materials are featured with high capacity and low cost for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries but suffer from severe structure and interface instability. Bulk doping together with surface coating has been proven to be an efficient approach to improve the inner structure and interfacial stability of the LiNiO2 cathode material. Nevertheless, the role of anion doping seems to be quite different from that of cation doping, and a deep insight will be desirable for the structure design of the LiNiO2 cathode material. In this paper, PO43--doped and Li3PO4-coating of dual modification of LiNiO2 are achieved via a facile approach. It is demonstrated that the PO43- anions are doped into the tetrahedron vacant sites of the crystal structure, alleviating the phase transition and improving the reversibility of crystal structure. Besides, the Li3PO4 coating layer ameliorates the interface stability to restrain the side reactions. Therefore, the dual modification enhances overall structural stability of the material to provide excellent performance. Moreover, the consumption of the Li residues by the formation of Li3PO4 coating layer, and the enlarged interlayer spacing of the crystal structure by PO43- doping can facilitate the Li+ ions diffusion, resulting in a superior rate capability.

RESUMEN

Previous studies have shown that excessive alcohol consumption is associated with poor sleep. However, the health risks of light-to-moderate alcohol consumption in relation to sleep traits (e.g., insomnia, snoring, sleep duration and chronotype) remain undefined, and their causality is still unclear in the general population. To identify the association between alcohol consumption and multiple sleep traits using an observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) design. Observational analyses and one-sample MR (linear and nonlinear) were performed using clinical and individual-level genetic data from the UK Biobank (UKB). Two-sample MR was assessed using summary data from genome-wide association studies from the UKB and other external consortia. Phenotype analyses were externally validated using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2017-2018). Data analysis was conducted from January 2022 to October 2022. The association between alcohol consumption and six self-reported sleep traits (short sleep duration, long sleep duration, chronotype, snoring, waking up in the morning, and insomnia) were analysed. This study included 383,357 UKB participants (mean [SD] age, 57.0 [8.0] years; 46% male) who consumed a mean (SD) of 9.0 (10.0) standard drinks (one standard drink equivalent to 14 g of alcohol) per week. In the observational analyses, alcohol consumption was significantly associated with all sleep traits. Light-moderate-heavy alcohol consumption was linearly linked to snoring and the evening chronotype but nonlinearly associated with insomnia, sleep duration, and napping. In linear MR analyses, a 1-SD (14 g) increase in genetically predicted alcohol consumption was associated with a 1.14-fold (95% CI, 1.07-1.22) higher risk of snoring (P < 0.001), a 1.28-fold (95% CI, 1.20-1.37) higher risk of evening chronotype (P < 0.001) and a 1.24-fold (95% CI, 1.13-1.36) higher risk of difficulty waking up in the morning (P < 0.001). Nonlinear MR analyses did not reveal significant results after Bonferroni adjustment. The results of the two-sample MR analyses were consistent with those of the one-sample MR analyses, but with a slightly attenuated overall estimate. Our findings suggest that even low levels of alcohol consumption may affect sleep health, particularly by increasing the risk of snoring and evening chronotypes. The negative effects of alcohol consumption on sleep should be made clear to the public in order to promote public health.

RESUMEN

The morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease (CVD) rank first among common diseases. Arteriosclerosis and diabetes are risk factors for CVDs, which influence each other. However, their combined effects on CVDs are still unclear. In this study, people who participated in brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) testing and the annual physical examination of the Kailuan Group Finance Co., Ltd., from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2020, were selected, and their anthropometric, biochemical and epidemiological data were collected. The participants were divided into four groups according to diabetes and arteriosclerosis diagnosis and follow-up. Cox proportional hazards regression and subdistribution hazard models were used to analyse the combined effects of arteriosclerosis and diabetes on CVDs. Multiple sensitivity analyses were also performed. A total of 59,268 Asian populations were selected, including 14,425 females (28.11%) with an average age of 48.10 (± 12.72) years. During follow-up, 1830 subjects developed CVDs (mean follow-up period, 4.72 years). The cumulative incidence rates of the healthy control, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and comorbidity groups were 5.04% (807/38781), 15.17% (253/3860), 17.04% (465/5987), and 25.59% (305/2684), respectively. The results of multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that compared with the healthy control group, the risk of CVD in the diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and comorbidity groups was significantly increased. Their HR values were 1.88 (95% CI 1.62-2.18), 1.40 (95% CI 1.23-1.60), and 2.10 (95% CI 1.80-2.45), respectively. The results of the sensitivity analysis were robust. For each one standard increase in fasting blood glucose or baPWV, the HR values for CVDs were 1.16 (95% CI 1.12-1.20) and 1.22 (95% CI 1.16-1.28), respectively. The results indicated that both arteriosclerosis and diabetes lead to an increased risk of CVDs. The risk of CVDs, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, heart failure, stroke, coronary artery bypass grafting and ischemic stroke in patients with arteriosclerosis and diabetes was significantly higher than that in patients with arteriosclerosis or diabetes alone. Therefore, the primary prevention of CVDs in patients with arteriosclerosis complicated with diabetes needs more attention.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is often associated with moderate to severe pain. The present study compared the efficacy of circum-psoas block (CPB) with supra-inguinal fascia iliaca block (SIFIB) for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing THA. Patients and Methods: In this randomized trial, sixty-four patients undergoing THA were allocated randomly to the CPB group or SIFIB group with 40 mL of 0.3% ropivacaine. The primary outcome was dynamic pain score at 6 h postoperatively. Secondary outcomes included dynamic pain scores at 12, 24 and 48 h; static pain scores; sensory and motor block; opioid consumption; time to first opioid request; length of hospital stay; patient satisfaction; and adverse events. Results: CPB patients showed significantly lower dynamic pain scores at 6 (3.11 ± 0.66 vs 4.47 ± 0.74, respectively; P = 0.000), 12 (2.52 ± 0.73 vs 3.53 ± 0.85, respectively; P = 0.000) and 24 h (2.30 ± 0.57 vs 2.87 ± 0.71, respectively; P = 0.001) after surgery, as well as lower static pain scores at 6 and 12h (P = 0.001 and P = 0.033 respectively) than SIFIB patients. Lower opioid consumption was observed in the CPB group at 24 and 48 h (P = 0.000, both) than in the SIFIB group. Patients in the CPB group reported improved quadriceps strength at 6 and 12 h (P = 0.000, both), as well as better muscle strength of hip flexion at 6, 12 and 24 h (P = 0.000, P = 0.000 and P = 0.025 respectively). Compared with SIFIB, CPB was associated with increased sensory block coverage at 6, 12 and 24 h (P = 0.000, P = 0.000, and P =0.022, respectively). Conclusion: CPB has a greater potential to alleviate postoperative pain and improve recovery in THA patients than SIFIB.

RESUMEN

Aspergillus niger is a primary cell factory for food-grade protein (enzyme) production due to its strong protein secretion capacity and unique safety characteristics. The bottleneck issue for the current A. niger expression system is the difference in expression yield of heterologous proteins of non-fungal origin compared to those of fungal origin, which is about three orders of magnitude. The sweet protein monellin, derived from West African plants, has the potential to become a food-grade sweetener due to its high sweetness and the benefit of not containing sugar itself, but it is extremely difficult to establish a research model for heterologous expression in A. niger, owing to extremely low expression, a small molecular weight, and being undetectable with conventional protein electrophoresis. HiBiT-Tag was fused with low-expressing monellin in this work to create a research model for heterologous protein expression in A. niger at ultra-low levels. We increased monellin expression by increasing the monellin copy number, fusing monellin with the endogenous highly expressed glycosylase glaA, and eliminating extracellular protease degradation, among other strategies. In addition, we investigated the effects of overexpression of molecular chaperones, inhibiting the ERAD pathway, and enhancing the synthesis of phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylcholine, and diglycerides in the biomembrane system. Using medium optimization, we finally obtained 0.284 mg/L of monellin in the supernatant of the shake flask. This is the first time recombinant monellin has been expressed in A. niger, with the goal of investigating ways to improve the secretory expression of heterologous proteins at ultra-low levels, which can serve as a model for the expression of other heterologous proteins in A. niger.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: We report a rare case of full neurological recovery from severe nonexertional heat stroke in a 67-year-old woman with an initial Glasgow Coma Scale of 3. This report raises awareness among doctors that when heatstroke is diagnosed, comprehensive treatment should be implemented as soon as possible. Moreover, targeted temperature management, combination therapy with hemodialysis and hemoperfusion, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy may alleviate multiorgan failure and prevent neurological sequelae caused by heatstroke. CASE SUMMARY: A previously healthy 67-year-old woman with an initial Glasgow Coma Scale of 3 was found lying prone on the road at noon on a summer day. Laboratory tests revealed multiorgan failure. As soon as heatstroke was diagnosed, comprehensive treatment was implemented. On hospital Day 3, the patient was extubated. Her initial Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score at hospitalization was 14 and decreased to 2 on hospital Day 4. On the seventh day following hospital admission, as the patient's general condition improved, the levels of laboratory test findings decreased rapidly. Finally, the patient gradually recovered with no other neurological symptoms (the Glasgow Coma Scale at discharge was 15, and her ability to walk independently was restored). CONCLUSION: This case demonstrated that targeted temperature management, combination therapy with hemodialysis and hemoperfusion, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy may alleviate multiorgan failure and prevent neurological sequelae caused by heatstroke.

RESUMEN

Efficient protein secretion is closely correlated with vesicle sorting and packaging, especially with cargo receptor-mediated selective transport for ER exit. Even though Aspergillus niger is considered an industrially natural host for protein production due to its exceptional secretion capacity, the trafficking mechanism in the early secretory pathway remains a black box for us to explore. Here, we identified and characterized all putative ER cargo receptors of the three families in A. niger. We successfully constructed overexpression and deletion strains of each receptor and compared the colony morphology and protein secretion status of each strain. Among them, the deletion of Erv14 severely inhibited mycelial growth and secretion of extracellular proteins such as glucoamylase. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the proteins associated with Erv14, we developed a high-throughput method by combining yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. We found Erv14 specifically interacted with transporters. Following further validation of the quantitative membrane proteome, we determined that Erv14 was associated with the transport of proteins involved in processes such as cell wall synthesis, lipid metabolism, and organic substrate metabolism.

RESUMEN

A new strategy is developed to fabricate sulfur electrode by infusing sulfur into a conductive biochar decorated with highly dispersed CoO nanoparticles. The loading of the CoO nanoparticles, as the active sites for reactions, is efficiently increased by using the microwave-assisted diffusion method. It is demonstrated that biochar can serve as an excellent conductive framework to effectively activate sulfur. Simultaneously, the CoO nanoparticles possessing excellent capability to adsorb polysulfides can remarkably alleviate the dissolution of polysulfides, and greatly enhance the conversion kinetics between the polysulfides and Li2S2/Li2S in the charge/discharge processes. The sulfur electrode dual-functionalized with biochar and CoO nanoparticles exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, including high initial discharge specific capacity of 930.5 mAh g-1 and low capacity decay rate of 0.069 % per cycle during 800 cycles at 1C rate. It is particularly interesting that the CoO nanoparticles distinctively enhance the Li+ diffusion during the charge process, endowing the material with excellent high-rate charging performance. This could be beneficial for the development of Li-S batteries with fast charging feature.

RESUMEN

The incidence of insomnia has been increasing in recent years. In addition, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more people are experiencing a variety of insomniac problems, including having difficulty in sleep initation, waking up too early, and short sleep duration. Chronic insomnia may seriously affect patients' life and work, increase their risks of developing physical and mental illnesses, and cause crushing social and economic burdens. Sedative-hypnotics, including benzodiazepine agonists, melatonin receptor agonists, orexin receptor antagonists, and antidepressants with hypnotic effects, are widely used to treat most patients suffering from insomnia. However, there is the phenomenon of the non-medical use and abuse of sedative-hypnotic drugs, especially benzodiazepine receptor agonists. The abuse of sedative-hypnotic drugs may lead to mental and physical dependence, cognitive impairment, depression and anxiety, as well as an increased risks of falls and death. Therefore, drug regulatory authorities in China and other countries have issued relevant policies to reinforce regulation. Herein, we reviewed the prevalent use and safety of sedative-hypnotic drugs and proposed suggestions concerning their appropriate use. Both the efficacy and safety of sedative-hypnotic drugs should be carefully considered so that patients suffering from insomnia receive thorough and prompt treatment and the problem of potential abuse of sedative-hypnotic drugs is assessed in an objective and scientific manner. We also hope to provide references for the standardized clinical use of insomnia drugs.

RESUMEN

To develop Co-free LiNiO2-based layered cathode materials is crucial for meeting the demands of the lithium-ion batteries with high energy density, long cycling life, and low cost. Herein, the LiNi1-x-yAlxMgyO2 materials are synthesized by the solid-solid interface elemental interdiffusion strategy. It is elucidated that the Mg2+ and Al3+ ions are mainly doped in the Li slabs and transition metal slabs, respectively, leading to the alteration of the crystal lattice. Furthermore, the incorporation of the Mg2+ ions may induce more Ni2+ ions formed in the transition metal slabs, which would have great impact on the electrochemical performance of the materials. The LiNi1-x-yAlxMgyO2 materials with optimized Mg/Al co-doping exhibit much better electrochemical performance than the pristine LiNiO2 and Al-doped LiNiO2 materials, including cycling stability and rate capability. The in-situ XRD characterization and structural analysis show that stabilization of the crystal structure, preservation of the integrity of the secondary particles, and enlargement of the interlayer spacing by the Mg/Al co-doping are the main factors responsible for the superior performance of the materials. The Mg/Al co-doping strategy might be the promising approach for the design of the cobalt-free nickel-rich materials.

RESUMEN

Insomnia is one of the most common and burdensome disorders in adults. We compared and ranked insomnia medication on the basis of their efficacy and tolerability. We performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis of placebo-controlled or head-to-head randomized controlled trials for primary insomnia in adults comparing 20 drugs. We searched eight databases and seven trial registers from inception to March 1st, 2022. Primary outcomes included sleep latency (SL), awake time after sleep onset (WASO) and discontinuation for adverse events (AED), and secondary outcomes included total sleep time (TST), sleep efficiency (SE), sleep quality (SQ) and adverse events (ADE). Pooled standardized mean differences or odds ratios with 95% credible intervals were estimated using pairwise and network meta-analysis with random-effects. Differences among trial findings were explored in subgroup and sensitivity analyses. Confidence in evidence was assessed using GRADE. The PROSPERO registered number is CRD42020182144. We identified 22,538 records and included 69 studies (17,319 patients). Orexin receptor antagonists (ORAs) are more efficacious than benzodiazepine-like drugs (Z-drugs) and placebo for WASO and SE, and better than melatonin receptor agonists (MRAs) for SL, WASO and SE. ORAs ranked the best in SL (SUCRA value: 0.84), WASO (0.93), TST (0.86) and SE (0.96). Lemborexant and daridorexant (two ORAs) showed greater efficacy than placebo for SL, WASO, and TST, with good tolerability. Z-drugs were more efficacious than placebo for SL, WASO, TST and SE, but with higher risk to safety. Zaleplon and eszopiclone had better efficacy than placebo for TST and SQ respectively. MRAs may also be efficacious for sleep-onset insomnia with good safety. However, the long-term adverse effects of all medications are unclear. Insomnia medications differ in their efficacy and tolerability. ORAs have superior efficacy and tolerability. These findings should aid clinicians in matching risk/benefits of drugs available in their countries to insomnia symptoms.

RESUMEN

The evidence for the existence of perceived task demand is paradoxical. The purpose of the present study is to explore whether perceived task demand is a challenge or a hindrance stressor. To achieve this research purpose, based on conservation of resources theory, a conceptual model is developed that utilizes both a resource acquisition path and a resource depletion path. Using the experience-sampling method, over five consecutive days, 370 matched data were collected via mobile phone from 74 full-time employees in mainland China. The results show that perceived task demand has the characteristics of both challenge and hindrance stressors. On the one hand, perceived task demand enhances employees' cognitive engagement, thereby facilitating task performance (resource acquisition path). On the other hand, perceived task demand boosts employees' cognitive strain, thereby increasing work fatigue and decreasing in-role performance (resource depletion path). This research offers a comprehensive understanding of perceived task demand and provides strategies for task demand management.

RESUMEN

The present study is developed based on conservation of resources theory (COR) to explore the underlying mechanism and boundary condition for the relationship between helping behavior and innovative behavior. To avoid the shortages of cross-sectional data, the present study collected two-wave and multi-source data. By collecting from 193 full-time Chinese workers and 68 supervisors at two separate time points, this study developed and examined a moderated mediation model using Mplus 7.0. The results show that helping behavior increases innovative behavior through enhancing positive affect, and psychological meaningfulness moderates the indirect relationship between helping behavior and innovative behavior through positive affect. In the condition of high psychological meaningfulness, helping behavior has a stronger indirect impact on innovative behavior through enhancing positive affect. This study enriches the literature on the outcomes of helping behavior. Moreover, this study provides several managerial implications to amplify the positive impact of helping behavior on innovative behavior. This study develops several strategies to enhance psychological meaningfulness and promote the benefits of helping behavior.

RESUMEN

Dexamethasone can be used to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery, but there is concern that it may induced perineal irritation. The aim of this study was to investigate the attenuation effect of dilution and slow injection on dexamethasone-induced perineal irritation. In this prospective, randomized, double-blind study, a total of 400 patients were enrolled and allocated into four groups: Group I, receiving 2 mL dexamethasone (5 mg/mL), Group II, receiving 5 mL dexamethasone (2 mg/mL), Group III, receiving 10 mL dexamethasone (1 mg/mL), and Group IV receiving 20 mL dexamethasone (0.5 mg/mL). Dexamethasone was diluted with 5% glucose. The injection time of dexamethasone was less than 2 s in Group I, while it was 30 s in Groups II, III, and IV. The incidence, onset, duration, and severity of perineal irritation were recorded. The incidence of dexamethasone-induced perineal irritation was 49, 33, 17, and 15% in Groups I, II, III, and IV, respectively. Group IV had less severity than Group I in mild and moderate perineal irritation (P < 0.008). The onset and duration of perineal irritation of Groups II, III, and IV were significantly improved compared to Group I (P < 0.001). Dexamethasone-induced perineal irritation can be alleviated by dilution of dexamethasone to 0.5 mg/mL with 5% glucose combined with prolonged injection time of 30 s.

RESUMEN

China is experiencing the rapid development of infrastructure projects throughout the country, especially in the Guangdong-Hong Kong SAR-Macao SAR Greater Bay Area. This is placing the Chinese construction industry under tremendous pressure to transition to a sustainability orientation due to the various economic, social, and environmental challenges involved. The transition to more sustainable infrastructure projects requires the involvement of more stakeholders, while the multistakeholder context is of less importance when making project decisions, and this may create an adverse effect on the sustainability level of infrastructure projects. Based on the questionnaire data collected, this study addresses this issue by comparatively analysing stakeholder perceptions of sustainable infrastructure delivery between Guangdong province, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR. Through independent sample t-tests, the disparity in perceptions between paired stakeholder groups in the Greater Bay Area (as a whole) is revealed. Three pairs, i.e., government department and supervising engineers, owners and designers, and supervising engineers and operators, are found to be the most conflicting, while contractors and supervising engineers are the least. Of the 18 sustainability items analysed, shaped local identity and international reputation (SOC, social factor 8) is the most controversial, while value-for-money of the proposed project during its lifecycle (EOC, economic factor 5) and green design and construction (ENV, environmental factor 2) have the greatest consensus towards their roles in achieving project sustainability. Significantly, different stakeholder perceptions between the three are also identified, and the contractor group is found to share the least consensus geographically, while the operators have the least conflict rating of the relevant importance of various sustainability factors. The thorough analysis of sustainability-related items of economy, society, and environment contributes to understanding the attitudes of the various stakeholder groups involved, which then helps reduce their conflicts during sustainable infrastructure delivery.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Helping others is a classic virtue and a positive behavior advocated by organizations and society at large in accordance with social norms. Based on social information processing theory, this study examines the mechanisms by which social exchange relationships influence individual helping behavior. Patients and methods: Chinese General Social Survey data from 2015 (CGSS 2015) is applied, and regression analysis and bootstrapping methods are adopted. Results: The findings indicate that leader-member exchange and team-member exchange are positively and significantly related to employees' helping behavior. Affective commitment and job satisfaction play mediating roles between both leader-member exchange and team-member exchange and helping behavior. Conclusion: Leader-member exchange and team-member exchange have different effects on helping behavior. Compared with team-member exchange, the effect of leader-member exchange on helping behavior is stronger via affective commitment and job satisfaction. These results serve as a starting point for boosting the proactive behaviors of employees, thereby establishing a harmonious organizational climate.
